青岛市妇儿工委办进一步推进为妇女儿童办实事工作

The Shandong Provincial Party （Communist Party of China） Committee has included work related to the protection of women and children＇s legal rights and interests in the standards for the evaluation of government organs＇ work. Officials of the Qingdao （a city in East China＇s Shandong Province） Working Committee on Children and Women recently monitored the city＇s work related to women and children, and they concluded the city had done the following during the first half of this year：     

河南省女大学生就业能力提升培训班举行

More than 350 students, from 11 universities in Zhengzhou （capital of Central China＇s Henan Province）, recently attended a training course on employment at Henan Institute of Education. The course was intended to help female university students, especially those who were about to graduate, find work and/or start a business. The event was hosted by Henan＇s Education Department and Henan Women＇s Federation. Before the course began, the experts and entrepreneurs, who were invited to participate, presented each female trainee with a flower or a bamboo branch as a gift. During the two-day （November 23-24, 2013） course, the experts and entrepreneurs shared their work experiences with the young women, and offered them advice on preparing their resumes, attending job interviews,

When the new semester started, 10,000 poverty- stricken, first-time pupils, from 128 schools in 14 provinces or municipalities, were given a meaningful present-- their first schoolbag. The program, entitled ＂My First Schoolbag,＂ was launched on September 1 in Beijing Zhiquan School, a facility for the children of migrant workers. The program was sponsored by the China Children and Teenager Fund （CCTF） and CapitaMalls Asia （China）. Some 10,000 schoolbags and stationery items were donated by CapitaMalls Asia （China）, through CCTF, to Grade 1 students, most of whom were left-behind children, poverty- stricken children or children of migrant workers attending schools in Beijing, Chongqing, or one of 12 provinces. Fan Jiying, Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women＇s Federation （ACWF） and Vice-Chairperson of CCTF, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.     

The Qingdao Young Reporters School

Arank of young journalists is active in Qingdao, Shandong Province. In 1993, at a conference during the 11th Qingdao Municipal People's Congress, people saw children, carrying cameras easily and confidently and taking photos for provincial-and city-level leaders seated at the rostrum. They were young journalists from the Qingdao Young Reporter's School, so they can be said to be professionally trained.

Women and Children's Health in Tibet

AS a doctor in the management of maternity and children's hygiene in the Tibet Autonomous Region for nearly 20 years, I would like to present a brief introduction of the situation of Tibetan women and children's health, as well as the related services. Prior the Liberation in Tibet, this region coveting over 1.2 million square kilometers, had few health care facilities for women and children. Such activities were carried out by three Tibetan medical institutions, a small number of folk doctors of Tibetan medicine, and a few private clinics. Under the feudal serf system in Tibet, women who gave birth were discriminated against because it was considered an obscene act. Women could not give birth in their tent homes, but were instead forced to seek shelter in cow stalls or sheepfolds no matter how severe the weather. Women and children at the time had no rights to health care. Countless women and children died of birthing complications or     

Trip Fuels Imagination of Art Students

THE colorful paintings exhibited at the China's Art Gallery were done by the children's painting class at the Beijing Children's Palace. They project the innocence and joy of childhood. Little Artists Painting classes at the Children's Palace started in 1987. To date nearly 1,000 primary school students have learned received basic painting skills. The teachers have developed a curriculum geared toward children aged 5-12. The children learn how to sketch, paint in watercolor and in oils. Many talented students have emerged from these classes to go on to win painting competitions at home and abyoad. Sun Enqi, 51, is a kind teacher who is serious about his work and has the kind of face that has been marked by the passing years. He has devoted his life to teaching children how to paint.

ALL parents hope their children will grow up healthy and clever. To provide children with good health care and education early on and to mold them into talented people who will be able to contribute toward the next century is the mission of China's development program for children. In order to implement the "National Program of Action for Child Development in China in the 1990s," to mobilize all walks of life to become concerned with the health of mothers and children and the fate of the next generation, as well as to improve the quality

At the national work meeting on children and women held from October 9 to 10, Premier Zhu Rongji called upon governments at all levels to safeguard legitimate rights for women and children and clear obstacles that impair women and children from advancing. He asked for further improvement of education for women and children, enhancement of women's participation in politics and social affairs and promotion of work concerned with women and children in the Western region.
