Again I make the “around the world” journey back to my home, New York City. Having lived primarily in Beijing for the past four years, my internal bearing,my internal clock takes longer to realign with the new place, the new time （day is night） and the returning though momentarily unfamiliar culture.

Imarried my wife in 1946. I was 19 years old then and my wife Shao Chunrong was 22. The second year after we got married the Kuomintang army was forcibly recruiting able-bodied men. I ran away from home to avoid being forced to join. For two years I wandered the country; Chunrong was left alone at home to make a living selling pancakes.
