We introduce two classes of multivariate log-skewed distributions with normal kernel: the log canonical fundamental skew-normal (log-CFUSN) and the log unified skew-normal. We also discuss some properties of the log-CFUSN family of distributions. These new classes of log-skewed distributions include the log-normal and multivariate log-skew normal families as particular cases. We discuss some issues related to Bayesian inference in the log-CFUSN family of distributions, mainly we focus on how to model the prior uncertainty about the skewing parameter. Based on the stochastic representation of the log-CFUSN family, we propose a data augmentation strategy for sampling from the posterior distributions. This proposed family is used to analyse the US national monthly precipitation data. We conclude that a high-dimensional skewing function lead to a better model fit.  相似文献

Azzalini [A class of distributions which include the normal. Scand J Stat. 1985;12:171–178] introduced a skew-normal distribution of which normal distribution is a special case. Recently, Kundu [Geometric skew normal distribution. Sankhya Ser B. 2014;76:167–189] introduced a geometric skew-normal distribution and showed that it has certain advantages over Azzalini's skew-normal distribution. In this paper we discuss about the multivariate geometric skew-normal (MGSN) distribution. It can be used as an alternative to Azzalini's skew-normal distribution. We discuss different properties of the proposed distribution. It is observed that the joint probability density function of the MGSN distribution can take a variety of shapes. Several characterization results have been established. Generation from an MGSN distribution is quite simple, hence the simulation experiments can be performed quite easily. The maximum likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters can be obtained quite conveniently using the expectation–maximization (EM) algorithm. We perform some simulation experiments and it is observed that the performances of the proposed EM algorithm are quite satisfactory. Furthermore, the analyses of two data sets have been performed, and it is observed that the proposed methods and the model work very well.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce a new family of asymmetric distributions, which depends on two parameters namely, α and β, and in the special case where β = 0, the skew-normal (SN) distribution considered by Azzallini [Azzalini, A., 1985, A class of distributions which includes the normal ones. Scandinavian Journal of Statistics, 12, 171–178.] is obtained. Basic properties such as a stochastic representation and the derivation of maximum likelihood and moment estimators are studied. The asymptotic behaviour of both types of estimators is also investigated. Results of a small-scale simulation study is provided illustrating the usefulness of the new model. An application to a real data set is reported showing that it can present better fit than the SN distribution.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a constructive representation of skewed distributions, which proposed by Ferreira and Steel (J Am Stat Assoc 101:823–829, 2006), and its basic properties is presented. We study the five versions of skew- normal distributions in this general setting. An appropriate empirical model for a skewed distribution is introduced. In data analysis, we compare this empirical model with the other four versions of skew-normal distributions, via some reasonable criteria. It is shown that the proposed empirical model has a better fit for density estimation.  相似文献

In this paper, we discuss a general class of skew two-piece skew-normal distributions, denoted by GSTPSN1, λ2, ρ). We derive its moment generating function and discuss some simple and interesting properties of this distribution. We then discuss the modes of these distributions and present a useful representation theorem as well. Next, we focus on a different generalization of the two-piece skew-normal distribution which is a symmetric family of distributions and discuss some of its properties. Finally, three well-known examples are used to illustrate the practical usefulness of this family of distributions.  相似文献

In the present study, we provide a motivating example with a financial application under COVID-19 pandemic to investigate autoregressive (AR) modeling and its diagnostics based on asymmetric distributions. The objectives of this work are: (i) to formulate asymmetric AR models and their estimation and diagnostics; (ii) to assess the performance of the parameters estimators and of the local influence technique for these models; and (iii) to provide a tool to show how data following an asymmetric distribution under an AR structure should be analyzed. We take the advantages of the stochastic representation of the skew-normal distribution to estimate the parameters of the corresponding AR model efficiently with the expectation-maximization algorithm. Diagnostic analytics are conducted by using the local influence technique with four perturbation schemes. By employing Monte Carlo simulations, we evaluate the statistical behavior of the corresponding estimators and of the local influence technique. An illustration with financial data updated until 2020, analyzed using the methodology introduced in the present work, is presented as an example of effective applications, from where it is possible to explain atypical cases from the COVID-19 pandemic.  相似文献

It is also shown that our proposed skew-normal model subsumes many other well-known skew-normal model that exists in the literature. Recent work on a new two-parameter generalized skew-normal model has received a lot of attention. This paper presents a new generalized Balakrishnan type skew–normal distribution by introducing two shape parameters. We also provide some useful results for this new generalization. It is also shown that our proposed skew–normal model subsumes the original Balakrishnan skew–normal model (2002) as well as other well–known skew–normal models as special cases. The resulting flexible model can be expected to fit a wider variety of data structures than either of the models involving a single skewing mechanism. For illustrative purposes, a famed data set on IQ scores has been used to exhibit the efficacy of the proposed model.  相似文献

Bayesian inference under the skew-normal family of distributions is discussed using an arbitrary proper prior for the skewness parameter. In particular, we review some results when a skew-normal prior distribution is considered. Considering this particular prior, we provide a stochastic representation of the posterior of the skewness parameter. Moreover, we obtain analytical expressions for the posterior mean and variance of the skewness parameter. The ultimate goal is to consider these results to one change point identification in the parameters of the location-scale skew-normal model. Some Latin American emerging market datasets are used to illustrate the methodology developed in this work.  相似文献

The standard location and scale unrestricted (or unified) skew-normal (SUN) family studied by Arellano-Valle and Genton [On fundamental skew distributions. J Multivar Anal. 2005;96:93–116] and Arellano-Valle and Azzalini [On the unification of families of skew-normal distributions. Scand J Stat. 2006;33:561–574], allows the modelling of data which is symmetrically or asymmetrically distributed. The family has a number of advantages suitable for the analysis of stochastic processes such as Auto-Regressive Moving-Average (ARMA) models, including being closed under linear combinations, being able to satisfy the consistency condition of Kolmogorov’s theorem and providing the guarantee of the existence of such a SUN stochastic process. The family is able to be represented in a hierarchical form which can be used for the ease of simulation. In addition, it facilitates an EM-type algorithm to estimate the model parameters. The performances and suitability of the proposed model are demonstrated on simulations and using two real data sets in applications.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The novel Balakrishnan skew-normal distribution introduced in 2008 has received considerable interest. Here, we derive stochastic representations for simulating order statistics of the novel Balakrishnan skew-normal distribution. The resulting algorithms are more efficient than the ordinary sorting algorithm.  相似文献

Linear mixed models have been widely used to analyze repeated measures data which arise in many studies. In most applications, it is assumed that both the random effects and the within-subjects errors are normally distributed. This can be extremely restrictive, obscuring important features of within-and among-subject variations. Here, quantile regression in the Bayesian framework for the linear mixed models is described to carry out the robust inferences. We also relax the normality assumption for the random effects by using a multivariate skew-normal distribution, which includes the normal ones as a special case and provides robust estimation in the linear mixed models. For posterior inference, we propose a Gibbs sampling algorithm based on a mixture representation of the asymmetric Laplace distribution and multivariate skew-normal distribution. The procedures are demonstrated by both simulated and real data examples.  相似文献

In this paper, authors study properties and inference for the newly introduced skew-normal alpha-power model, generalizing both, the power-normal and skew-normal models. Inference is approached via maximum likelihood. Fisher information matrix is derived and shown to be nonsingular at the whole parametric space. Special emphasis is placed on the special case of the power–skew-normal model. Studies with real data illustrate the fact that the model can be very useful in applications, being able to overfit less general models entertained in the literature.  相似文献

The modeling and analysis of experiments is an important aspect of statistical work in a wide variety of scientific and technological fields. We introduce and study the odd log-logistic skew-normal model, which can be interpreted as a generalization of the skew-normal distribution. The new distribution can be used effectively in the analysis of experiments data since it accommodates unimodal, bimodal, symmetric, bimodal and right-skewed, and bimodal and left-skewed density function depending on the parameter values. We illustrate the importance of the new model by means of three real data sets in analysis of experiments.  相似文献

In many studies, the data collected are subject to some upper and lower detection limits. Hence, the responses are either left or right censored. A complication arises when these continuous measures present heavy tails and asymmetrical behavior; simultaneously. For such data structures, we propose a robust-censored linear model based on the scale mixtures of skew-normal (SMSN) distributions. The SMSN is an attractive class of asymmetrical heavy-tailed densities that includes the skew-normal, skew-t, skew-slash, skew-contaminated normal and the entire family of scale mixtures of normal (SMN) distributions as special cases. We propose a fast estimation procedure to obtain the maximum likelihood (ML) estimates of the parameters, using a stochastic approximation of the EM (SAEM) algorithm. This approach allows us to estimate the parameters of interest easily and quickly, obtaining as a byproducts the standard errors, predictions of unobservable values of the response and the log-likelihood function. The proposed methods are illustrated through real data applications and several simulation studies.  相似文献

In this paper we have discussed inference aspects of the skew-normal nonlinear regression models following both, a classical and Bayesian approach, extending the usual normal nonlinear regression models. The univariate skew-normal distribution that will be used in this work was introduced by Sahu et al. (Can J Stat 29:129–150, 2003), which is attractive because estimation of the skewness parameter does not present the same degree of difficulty as in the case with Azzalini (Scand J Stat 12:171–178, 1985) one and, moreover, it allows easy implementation of the EM-algorithm. As illustration of the proposed methodology, we consider a data set previously analyzed in the literature under normality.  相似文献

We introduce a new family of skew-normal distributions that contains the skew-normal distributions introduced by Azzalini (Scand J Stat 12:171–178, 1985), Arellano-Valle et al. (Commun Stat Theory Methods 33(7):1465–1480, 2004), Gupta and Gupta (Test 13(2):501–524, 2008) and Sharafi and Behboodian (Stat Papers, 49:769–778, 2008). We denote this distribution by GBSN n 1, λ2). We present some properties of GBSN n 1, λ2) and derive the moment generating function. Finally, we use two numerical examples to illustrate the practical usefulness of this distribution.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce an unrestricted skew-normal generalized hyperbolic (SUNGH) distribution for use in finite mixture modeling or clustering problems. The SUNGH is a broad class of flexible distributions that includes various other well-known asymmetric and symmetric families such as the scale mixtures of skew-normal, the skew-normal generalized hyperbolic and its corresponding symmetric versions. The class of distributions provides a much needed unified framework where the choice of the best fitting distribution can proceed quite naturally through either parameter estimation or by placing constraints on specific parameters and assessing through model choice criteria. The class has several desirable properties, including an analytically tractable density and ease of computation for simulation and estimation of parameters. We illustrate the flexibility of the proposed class of distributions in a mixture modeling context using a Bayesian framework and assess the performance using simulated and real data.

Two new families of matrix variate distributions are introduced. They are based on matrix normal distribution and yet can be used to model data involving skewness. The properties of the two families are investigated. Among others, the marginals, conditionals, stochastic representation, linear and quadratic forms are studied.  相似文献

We consider here a generalization of the skew-normal distribution, GSN(λ1,λ2,ρ), defined through a standard bivariate normal distribution with correlation ρ, which is a special case of the unified multivariate skew-normal distribution studied recently by Arellano-Valle and Azzalini [2006. On the unification of families of skew-normal distributions. Scand. J. Statist. 33, 561–574]. We then present some simple and useful properties of this distribution and also derive its moment generating function in an explicit form. Next, we show that distributions of order statistics from the trivariate normal distribution are mixtures of these generalized skew-normal distributions; thence, using the established properties of the generalized skew-normal distribution, we derive the moment generating functions of order statistics, and also present expressions for means and variances of these order statistics.Next, we introduce a generalized skew-tν distribution, which is a special case of the unified multivariate skew-elliptical distribution presented by Arellano-Valle and Azzalini [2006. On the unification of families of skew-normal distributions. Scand. J. Statist. 33, 561–574] and is in fact a three-parameter generalization of Azzalini and Capitanio's [2003. Distributions generated by perturbation of symmetry with emphasis on a multivariate skew t distribution. J. Roy. Statist. Soc. Ser. B 65, 367–389] univariate skew-tν form. We then use the relationship between the generalized skew-normal and skew-tν distributions to discuss some properties of generalized skew-tν as well as distributions of order statistics from bivariate and trivariate tν distributions. We show that these distributions of order statistics are indeed mixtures of generalized skew-tν distributions, and then use this property to derive explicit expressions for means and variances of these order statistics.  相似文献
