In this paper, we propose a method to jointly incorporate measurement error and non response in the estimators of population mean using auxiliary information in simple random sampling. We have not only studied some available estimators but also suggested three new estimators in the presence of two types of non sampling errors occurring jointly: the measurement error and the non response. The expressions for the bias and mean square errors of proposed estimator have been derived. A comparative study is made among the proposed estimators, the Hansen and Hurwitz (1946 Hansen, M.H., Hurwitz, W.N. (1946). The problem of non-response in sample surveys. J. Am. Stat. Assoc. 41:517529.[Taylor &; Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) estimator, the Cochran's (1977 Cochran, W.G. (1977). Sampling Techniques, 3rd Edn. This paper presents a modified exponential type estimation strategy for the current population mean in the presence of random non-response situations in two-occasion successive sampling under two-phase set-up. The properties of the proposed estimators have been examined with the assumption that numbers of sampling units follow a distribution due to random non-response. The performances of the proposed estimators are compared with the estimators designated for the complete response situations. Empirical studies are carried out to show the dominance nature of the proposed estimators over the estimator defined for complete response situations. Appropriate recommendations have been made to the survey practitioners/researchers for their real-life practical applications.  相似文献

In survey research, it is assumed that reported response by the individual is correct. However, given the issues of prestige bias, self-respect, respondent's reported data often produces estimated values which are highly deviated from the true values. This causes measurement error (ME) to be present in the sample estimates. In this article, the estimation of population mean in the presence of measurement error using information on a single auxiliary variable is studied. A generalized estimator of population mean is proposed. The class of estimators is obtained by using some conventional and non-conventional measures. Simulation and numerical study is also conducted to assess the performance of estimators in the presence and absence of measurement error.  相似文献

In this article, general estimation procedures of population mean on the most recent occasion in the presence of non response on all occasions have been deduced in h-occasion successive sampling. In the estimation procedures, regression type estimators have been suggested with the aid of stable and mutually independent several auxiliary variables which are readily available only on the most recent occasion. To check the efficiency of the proposed estimators, they have been compared with similar estimator in absence of non response. Properties of the suggested estimation procedures have been studied and their empirical studies are carried out to validate the theoretical results. Suitable recommendations have been made.  相似文献

Abstract

Non-response is an unavoidable phenomenon in almost all sample survey, and if it is not dealt carefully at the very starting of the analysis, results may lead to significant biases in the survey estimates. Keeping these facts in mind and inspired by the work of Singh (2009 Singh, S. 2009. A new method of imputation in survey sampling. Statistics 43 (5):499511. doi:10.1080/02331880802605114.[Taylor & Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]), this article suggests some alternative efficient methods to deal with the missing data problems at the beginning of the analysis and proposes estimation procedures of the current population mean in two-occasion successive sampling. The properties of the resultant estimation procedures have been examined and supplemented with empirical studies. Results have been critically analyzed, and recommendations are made to the survey practitioners.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This paper deals with the problem of estimating the finite population mean in stratified random sampling by using two auxiliary variables. This paper proposed a ratio-cum-product exponential type estimator of population mean under different situations: (i) when there is presence of non-response and measurement errors on the study as well as auxiliary variables; (ii) when there is non-response on the study and auxiliary variables but with no measurement error; (iii) when there is complete response on study variable but there is presence of non-response and measurement error on the auxiliary variables and (iv) when there are complete response and measurement error on study as well as auxiliary variables. The expressions of the bias and mean square error of the proposed estimator have been obtained up to the first degree of approximation. The proposed estimator has been compared with usual unbiased estimator, ratio estimator and other existing estimators and the conditions obtained to show the efficacy of the proposed estimator over other considered estimators. Simulation study is carried out to support the theoretical findings.  相似文献

This paper compares four estimators of the mean of the selected population from two normal populations with unknown means and common but unknown variance. The selection procedure is that the population yielding the largest sample mean is selected. The four estimators considered are invariant under both location and scale transformations. The bias and mean square errors of the four estimators are computed and compared. The conclusions are close to those reported by Dahiya ‘1974’, even for small sample sizes  相似文献

Abstract

This article addresses the problem of estimating population distribution function for simple random sampling in the presence of non response and measurement error together. We suggest a general class of estimators for estimating the cumulative distribution function using the auxiliary information. The expressions for the bias and mean squared error are derived up to the first order of approximation. The performance of the proposed class of estimators is compared with considered estimators both theoretically and numerically. A real data set is used to support the theoretical findings.  相似文献

Abstract

The mean estimators with ratio depend on multiple auxiliary variables and unknown parameters in a finite population setting. We propose a new generalized approach with matrices for modeling the mutivariate mean estimators with two auxiliary variables. Our approach brings naturally a graphical analysis for comparing mean estimators.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The present investigation deals with the problem of estimation of population mean in two-phase sampling. In the presence of two auxiliary variables, some classes of estimators have been proposed through predictive approach. Properties of the proposed classes of estimators have been studied, and the unbiased versions of these estimators along with their approximate variance expressions are obtained under simple random sampling without replacement scheme. The respective optimum strategies of the proposed estimators are discussed, and their empirical and graphical comparisons with some contemporary estimators of population mean have been made. Suitable recommendations to the survey practitioner are given.  相似文献

This study focuses on the estimation of population mean of a sensitive variable in stratified random sampling based on randomized response technique (RRT) when the observations are contaminated by measurement errors (ME). A generalized estimator of population mean is proposed by using additively scrambled responses for the sensitive variable. The expressions for the bias and mean square error (MSE) of the proposed estimator are derived. The performance of the proposed estimator is evaluated both theoretically and empirically. Results are also applied to a real data set.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The present work intends to put emphasis on the role of several auxiliary variables on both the occasions to improve the precision of estimates at current occasion in two-occasion successive sampling. Utilizing the readily available information on several auxiliary variables on both occasions and the information on study variable from the previous occasion, an efficient estimation procedure of population mean on current occasion has been suggested. Optimum replacement strategy and the efficiencies of the proposed estimator have been discussed. Empirical studies are carried out, and appropriate recommendations have been put forward for practical applications.  相似文献

The present investigation addresses the problem of estimating a finite population mean in two-phase cluster sampling in presence of random non response situations. Utilizing information on an auxiliary variable, regression type estimators has been proposed. Effective imputation techniques have been suggested to deal with the random non response situations. The properties of the proposed estimation strategies have been studied for different cases of random non response situations in practical surveys. The superiority of the suggested methodology over the natural sample mean estimator of population mean has been established through empirical studies carried over the data sets of natural population and artificially generated population.  相似文献

This paper addresses the problem of estimating the population variance S2y of the study variable y using auxiliary information in sample surveys. We have suggested a class of estimators of the population variance S2y of the study variable y when the population variance S2x of the auxiliary variable x is known. Asymptotic expressions of bias and mean squared error (MSE) of the proposed class of estimators have been obtained. Asymptotic optimum estimators in the proposed class of estimators have also been identified along with its MSE formula. A comparison has been provided. We have further provided the double sampling version of the proposed class of estimators. The properties of the double sampling version have been provided under large sample approximation. In addition, we support the present study with aid of a numerical illustration.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with estimating θ, the mean of an exponential distribution under a single outlier exchangeable model. It is a.ssumed that the single outlying observation is also exponential with mean θ/α, where 0 < α < 1. The estirnators proposed are weighted averages of the order statistics. The formulas for the weights minimizing the mean square error are presented. These weights are calculated for certain combinations of the sample size n and of α. It is found that the optimal weights very nearly have a certain form. The mean square errors of a simplified estitnator are compared lo those of Joshi (1972, 1988) and of Clhikkagoudar and Kunchur (1980). A nlodification of Joshi's iterative procedure is suggested.  相似文献

Abstract

We suggested the class of estimators of the population mean with its bias and mean square error. It has been shown that the suggested class is more efficient than the usual unbiased, ratio, product and regression estimators and estimators due to Bahl and Tuteja (1991), Singh et al. (2009), and Upadhyaya et al. (2011). In addition an empirical study also carried out to and founded that the members of suggested family also have improvement over Grover and Kaur (2011) and Shabbir and Gupta (2011) classes. Two-phase (double) sampling version of the proposed class was also given.  相似文献

A wider class of chain based estimators for the ratio of two means of a finite population has been proposed by using two auxiliary variables. Singh et al.(1994) is a particular case of this class.  相似文献
