This paper deals with parameter estimation in the linear regression model and an almost unbiased two-parameter estimator is introduced. The performance of this new estimator over the ordinary least-squares estimator and the two-parameter estimator [M.R. Özkale and S. Kaçiranlar, The restricted and unrestricted two-parameter estimator, Comm. Statist. Theory Methods 36 (2007), pp. 2707–2725] in terms of scalar mean-squared error criterion is investigated and a simulation study is done.  相似文献

Negative binomial regression (NBR) and Poisson regression (PR) applications have become very popular in the analysis of count data in recent years. However, if there is a high degree of relationship between the independent variables, the problem of multicollinearity arises in these models. We introduce new two-parameter estimators (TPEs) for the NBR and the PR models by unifying the two-parameter estimator (TPE) of Özkale and Kaç?ranlar [The restricted and unrestricted two-parameter estimators. Commun Stat Theory Methods. 2007;36:2707–2725]. These new estimators are general estimators which include maximum likelihood (ML) estimator, ridge estimator (RE), Liu estimator (LE) and contraction estimator (CE) as special cases. Furthermore, biasing parameters of these estimators are given and a Monte Carlo simulation is done to evaluate the performance of these estimators using mean square error (MSE) criterion. The benefits of the new TPEs are also illustrated in an empirical application. The results show that the new proposed TPEs for the NBR and the PR models are better than the ML estimator, the RE and the LE.  相似文献

Özkale and Kaçiranlar introduced the restricted two-parameter estimator (RTPE) to deal with the well-known multicollinearity problem in linear regression model. In this paper, the restricted almost unbiased two-parameter estimator (RAUTPE) based on the RTPE is presented. The quadratic bias and mean-squared error of the proposed estimator is discussed and compared with the corresponding competitors in literatures. Furthermore, a numerical example and a Monte Carlo simulation study are given to explain some of the theoretical results.  相似文献

The two parameter estimator proposed by Özkale and Kaç?ranlar [The restricted and unrestricted two parameter estimators. Comm Statist Theory Methods. 2007;36(15):2707–2725] is a general estimator which includes the ordinary least squares, the ridge and the Liu estimators as special cases. In the present paper we introduce Almon two parameter estimator based on the two parameter estimation procedure to deal with the problem of multicollinearity for the distiributed lag models. This estimator outperforms the Almon estimator according to the matrix mean square error criterion. Moreover, a numerical example and a Monte Carlo simulation experiment are presented by using different estimators of the biasing parameters.  相似文献

In this article, the restricted rk class estimator and restricted rd class estimator are introduced, which are general estimators of the rk class estimator by Baye and Parker [Combining ridge and principal component regression: A money demand illustration, Commun. Stat. Theory Methods 13(2) (1984), pp. 197–205] and the rd class estimator by Kaç?ranlar and Sakall?o?lu [Combining the Liu estimator and the principal component regression estimator, Commun. Stat. Theory Methods 30(12) (2001), pp. 2699–2705], respectively. For the two cases when the restrictions are true and not true, the superiority of the restricted rk class estimator and rd class estimator over the restricted ridge regression estimator by Sarkar [A new estimator combining the ridge regression and the restricted least squares methods of estimation, Commun. Stat. Theory Methods 21 (1992), pp. 1987–2000] and the restricted Liu estimator by Kaç?ranlar et al. [A new biased estimator in linear regression and a detailed analysis of the widely analysed dataset on Portland cement, Sankhya - Indian J. Stat. 61B(3) (1999), pp. 443–459] are discussed with respect to the mean squared error matrix criterion. Furthermore, a Monte Carlo evaluation of the estimators is given to illustrate some of the theoretical results.  相似文献

Özkale and Kaciranlar (2007 Özakle , M. R. , Kaciranlar , S. ( 2007 ). The restricted and unrestricted two-parameter estimators . Commun. Statist. Theor. Meth. 36 : 27072725 . [Google Scholar]) proposed a two-parameter estimator (TPE) for the unknown parameter vector in linear regression when exact restrictions are assumed to hold. In this article, under the assumption that the errors are not independent and identically distributed, we introduce a new estimator by combining the ideas underlying the mixed estimator (ME) and the two-parameter estimator when stochastic linear restrictions are assumed to hold. The new estimator is called the stochastic restricted two-parameter estimator (SRTPE) and necessary and sufficient conditions for the superiority of the SRTPE over the ME and TPE are derived by the mean squared error matrix (MSEM) criterion. Furthermore, selection of the biasing parameters is discussed and a numerical example is given to illustrate some of the theoretical results.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a stochastic restricted kd class estimator for the vector of parameters in a linear model when additional linear restrictions on the parameter vector are assumed to hold. The stochastic restricted kd class estimator is a generalization of the ordinary mixed estimator and the kd class estimator. We show that our new biased estimator is superior in the mean squared error matrix sense to the kd class estimator [S. Sakall?o?lu and S. Kaçiranlar, A new biased estimator based on ridge estimation, Statist. Papers 49 (2008), pp. 669–689] and the stochastic restricted Liu estimator [H. Yang and J.W. Xu, An alternative stochastic restricted Liu estimator in linear regression, Statist. Papers 50 (2009), pp. 639–647]. Finally, a numerical example is given to show the theoretical results.  相似文献

Omission of some relevant explanatory variables and multicollinearity in regression models are very serious problems in applied works. There are some papers examining the multicollinearity and misspecification which is due to omission of some relevant explanatory variables, concurrently. To remedy the problem of multicollinearity, Kaç?ranlar and Sakall?o?lu (2001 Kaç?ranlar, S., Sakall?o?lu, S. (2001). Combining the Liu estimator and the principal component regression estimator. Commun. Stat. Theory Methods. 30:26992705.[Taylor & Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) proposed the r-d class estimator that includes the ordinary least squares, principal components regression, and Liu estimators as special cases. The aim of this paper is to examine the performance of the r-d class estimator in misspecificied linear models.  相似文献

In this paper, a generalized difference-based estimator is introduced for the vector parameter β in partially linear model when the errors are correlated. A generalized-difference-based almost unbiased two-parameter estimator is defined for the vector parameter β. Under the linear stochastic constraint r = Rβ + e, we introduce a new generalized-difference-based weighted mixed almost unbiased two-parameter estimator. The performance of this new estimator over the generalized-difference-based estimator and generalized- difference-based almost unbiased two-parameter estimator in terms of the MSEM criterion is investigated. The efficiency properties of the new estimator is illustrated by a simulation study. Finally, the performance of the new estimator is evaluated for a real dataset.  相似文献

In this article, we consider the Stein-type approach to the estimation of the regression parameter in a multiple regression model under a multicollinearity situation. The Stein-type two-parameter estimator is proposed when it is suspected that the regression parameter may be restricted to a subspace. The bias and the quadratic risk of the proposed estimator are derived and compared with the two-parameter estimator (TPE), the restricted TPE and the preliminary test TPE. The conditions of superiority of the proposed estimator are obtained. Finally, a real data example is provided to illustrate some of the theoretical results.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce a new two-parameter estimator by grafting the contraction estimator into the modified ridge estimator proposed by Swindel (1976 Swindel , B. F. ( 1976 ). Good ridge estimators based on prior information . Commun. Statist. Theor. Meth. A5 : 10651075 .[Taylor & Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]). This new two-parameter estimator is a general estimator which includes the ordinary least squares, the ridge, the Liu, and the contraction estimators as special cases. Furthermore, by setting restrictions Rβ = r on the parameter values we introduce a new restricted two-parameter estimator which includes the well-known restricted least squares, the restricted ridge proposed by Groß (2003 Groß , J. ( 2003 ). Restricted ridge estimation . Statist. Probab. Lett. 65 : 5764 .[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]), the restricted contraction estimators, and a new restricted Liu estimator which we call the modified restricted Liu estimator different from the restricted Liu estimator proposed by Kaç?ranlar et al. (1999 Kaç?ranlar , S. , Sakall?o?lu , S. , Akdeniz , F. , Styan , G. P. H. , Werner , H. J. ( 1999 ). A new biased estimator in linear regression and a detailed analysis of the widely-analysed dataset on Portland cement . Sankhya Ser. B., Ind. J. Statist. 61 : 443459 . [Google Scholar]). We also obtain necessary and sufficient condition for the superiority of the new two-parameter estimator over the ordinary least squares estimator and the comparison of the new restricted two-parameter estimator to the new two-parameter estimator is done by the criterion of matrix mean square error. The estimators of the biasing parameters are given and a simulation study is done for the comparison as well as the determination of the biasing parameters.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we introduce a new restricted two-parameter (RTP) estimator for the vector of parameters in a linear model when additional linear restrictions on the parameter vector are assumed to hold. We show that our new biased estimator is superior in the matrix mean square error criterion to the restricted ridge estimator proposed by Groß (2003 Groß, J. (2003). Restricted ridge estimation. Stat. Probab. Lett. 65:5764.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]), restricted Liu estimator introduced by Kaçiranlar et al. (1999 Kaçiranlar, S., Sakall?oglus, S., Akdeniz, F., Styan, G.P.H., Werner, H.J. (1999). A new biased estimator in linear regression and a detailed analysis of the widely-analysed dataset on Portland cement. Sankhya Ser. B., Ind. J. A numerical example and a Monte Carlo simulation have been analyzed to illustrate some of the theoretical results.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce the weighted mixed Liu-type estimator (WMLTE) based on the weighted mixed and Liu-type estimator (LTE) in linear regression model. We will also present necessary and sufficient conditions for superiority of the weighted mixed Liu-type estimator over the weighted mixed estimator (WME) and Liu type estimator (LTE) in terms of mean square error matrix (MSEM) criterion. Finally, a numerical example and a Monte Carlo simulation is also given to show the theoretical results.  相似文献

In this article, we consider the estimation of a partially linear model when stochastic linear restrictions on the parameter components are assumed to hold. Based on the weighted mixed estimator, profile least-squares method, and ridge method, a weighted stochastic restricted ridge estimator of the parametric component is introduced. The properties of the new estimator are also discussed. Finally, a simulation study is given to show the performance of the new estimator.  相似文献

Tabakan and Akdeniz [Difference-based ridge estimator of parameters in partial linear model. Statist Pap. 2010;51(2):357–368] proposed a difference-based ridge estimator (DBRE) in the partial linear model. In this paper, a new estimator is introduced by jackknifing the DBRE that Tabakan and Akdeniz presented. We investigate the performance of this new estimator over the DBRE and difference-based estimator introduced by Yatchew [An elementary estimator of the partial linear model. Econom Lett. 1997;57:135–143] in terms of mean-squared error and mean-squared error matrix and a numerical example is provided to demonstrate the performance of the estimators.  相似文献

This article is concerned with the parameter estimation in linear regression model. To overcome the multicollinearity problem, a new two-parameter estimator is proposed. This new estimator is a general estimator which includes the ordinary least squares (OLS) estimator, the ridge regression (RR) estimator, and the Liu estimator as special cases. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the superiority of the new estimator over the OLS, RR, Liu estimators, and the two-parameter estimator proposed by Ozkale and Kaciranlar (2007 Ozkale , M. R. , Kaciranlar , S. ( 2007 ). The restricted and unrestricted two-parameter estimators . Commun. Statist. Theor. Meth. 36 : 27072725 .[Taylor & Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) in the mean squared error matrix (MSEM) sense are derived. Furthermore, we obtain the estimators of the biasing parameters and give a numerical example to illustrate some of the theoretical results.  相似文献

In this article, we propose two stochastic restricted principal components regression estimator by combining the approach followed in obtaining the ordinary mixed estimator and the principal components regression estimator in linear regression model. The performance of the two new estimators in terms of matrix MSE criterion is studied. We also give an example and a Monte Carlo simulation to show the theoretical results.  相似文献

Let (?,X) be a random vector such that E(X|?) = ? and Var(x|?) a + b? + c?2 for some known constants a, b and c. Assume X1,…,Xn are independent observations which have the same distribution as X. Let t(X) be the linear regression of ? on X. The linear empirical Bayes estimator is used to approximate the linear regression function. It is shown that under appropriate conditions, the linear empirical Bayes estimator approximates the linear regression well in the sense of mean squared error.  相似文献
