In this article, we introduce a generalization of the slash distribution via the gamma-normal distribution. We define the new slash distribution by relation of a gamma-normal random variable with respect to a power of a uniform random variable. The newly defined distribution generalizes the slash distribution and is more flexible in terms of its kurtosis and skewness than the slash distribution. Basic properties of the new distribution are studied. We derive the maximum likelihood estimators of its parameters and apply the distribution to a real dataset.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a new distribution generated by gamma random variables. We show that this distribution includes as a special case the distribution of the lower record value from a sequence of i.i.d. random variables from a population with the exponentiated (generalized) exponential distribution. The properties of this distribution are derived and the estimation of the model parameters is discussed. Some applications to real data sets are finally presented for illustration.  相似文献

We consider exact and approximate Bayesian computation in the presence of latent variables or missing data. Specifically we explore the application of a posterior predictive distribution formula derived in Sweeting And Kharroubi (2003), which is a particular form of Laplace approximation, both as an importance function and a proposal distribution. We show that this formula provides a stable importance function for use within poor man’s data augmentation schemes and that it can also be used as a proposal distribution within a Metropolis-Hastings algorithm for models that are not analytically tractable. We illustrate both uses in the case of a censored regression model and a normal hierarchical model, with both normal and Student t distributed random effects. Although the predictive distribution formula is motivated by regular asymptotic theory, it is not necessary that the likelihood has a closed form or that it possesses a local maximum.  相似文献

In this paper, we provide some new preservation properties of generalized ageing classes (s-IFR) on the residual life at random time, where s is a nonnegative integer. The nonparametric Bayesian approach for inference regarding the unknown distribution of a random sample customarily assumes that this distribution is random and arises through Dirichlet-process mixing. Previous work within this setting has focused on the mean of the posterior distribution of this random distribution, which is the predictive distribution of a future observation given the sample. Our interest here is in learning about other features of this posterior distribution as well as about posteriors associated with functionals of the distribution of the data. We indicate how to do this in the case of linear functionals. An illustration, with a sample from a Gamma distribution, utilizes Dirichlet-process mixtures of normals to recover this distribution and its features.  相似文献

The mean past lifetime (MPL) function (also known as the expected inactivity time function) is of interest in many fields such as reliability theory and survival analysis, actuarial studies and forensic science. For estimation of the MPL function some procedures have been proposed in the literature. In this paper, we give a central limit theorem result for the estimator of MPL function based on a right-censored random sample from an unknown distribution. The limiting distribution is used to construct normal approximation-based confidence interval for MPL. Furthermore, we use the empirical likelihood ratio procedure to obtain confidence interval for the MPL function. These two intervals are compared with each other through simulation study in terms of coverage probability. Finally, a couple of numerical example illustrating the theory is also given.  相似文献

The distributions of algebraic functions of random variables are important in theory of probability and statistics and other areas such as engineering, reliability, and actuarial applications, and many results based on various distributions are available in the literature. The two-sided power distribution is defined on a bounded range, and it is a generalization of the uniform, triangular, and power-function probability distributions. This paper gives the exact distribution of the product of two independent two-sided power-distributed random variables in a computable representation. The percentiles of the product are then computed, and a real data application is given.  相似文献

In practice, a financial or actuarial data set may be a skewed or heavy-tailed and this motivates us to study a class of distribution functions in risk management theory that provide more information about these characteristics resulting in a more accurate risk analysis. In this paper, we consider a multivariate tail conditional expectation (MTCE) for multivariate scale mixtures of skew-normal (SMSN) distributions. This class of distributions contains skewed distributions and some members of this class can be used to analyse heavy-tailed data sets. We also provide a closed form for TCE in a univariate skew-normal distribution framework. Numerical examples are also provided for illustration.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop a bivariate discrete generalized exponential distribution, whose marginals are discrete generalized exponential distribution as proposed by Nekoukhou, Alamatsaz and Bidram [Discrete generalized exponential distribution of a second type. Statistics. 2013;47:876–887]. It is observed that the proposed bivariate distribution is a very flexible distribution and the bivariate geometric distribution can be obtained as a special case of this distribution. The proposed distribution can be seen as a natural discrete analogue of the bivariate generalized exponential distribution proposed by Kundu and Gupta [Bivariate generalized exponential distribution. J Multivariate Anal. 2009;100:581–593]. We study different properties of this distribution and explore its dependence structures. We propose a new EM algorithm to compute the maximum-likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters which can be implemented very efficiently, and discuss some inferential issues also. The analysis of one data set has been performed to show the effectiveness of the proposed model. Finally, we propose some open problems and conclude the paper.  相似文献

The Generalized Error Distribution is a widespread flexible family of symmetric probability distribution. Thanks to its properties it is becoming more and more popular in many science fields therefore determining if a sample is drawn from a GED is an important issue that usually is pursued with a graphical approach. In this paper we present a new goodness-of-fit test for GED that shows good performances for detecting non GED distribution when the alternative distribution is either skewed or a mixture. A comparison between well known tests and this new procedure is performed through a simulation study. We have developed a function that performs the analysis described in this paper in the R environment. The computational time required to compute this procedure is negligible.  相似文献

The Euler characteristic heuristic has been proposed as a method for approximating the upper tail probability of the maximum of a random field with smooth sample path. When the random field is Gaussian, this method is proved to be valid in the sense that the relative approximation error is exponentially smaller. However, very little is known about the validity of the method when the random field is non-Gaussian. In this paper, as a milestone to developing the general theory about the validity of the Euler characteristic heuristic, we examine the Euler characteristic heuristic for approximating the distribution of the largest eigenvalue of an orthogonally invariant non-Gaussian random matrix. In this particular example, if the probability density function of the random matrix converges to zero sufficiently fast at the boundary of its support, the approximation error of the Euler characteristic heuristic is proved to be small and the approximation is valid. Moreover, for several standard orthogonally invariant random matrices, the approximation formula for the distribution of the largest eigenvalue and its asymptotic error are obtained explicitly. Our formulas are practical enough for the purpose of numerical calculations.  相似文献

This paper considers the computation of the conditional stationary distribution in Markov chains of level-dependent M/G/1-type, given that the level is not greater than a predefined threshold. This problem has been studied recently and a computational algorithm is proposed under the assumption that matrices representing downward jumps are nonsingular. We first show that this assumption can be eliminated in a general setting of Markov chains of level-dependent G/G/1-type. Next we develop a computational algorithm for the conditional stationary distribution in Markov chains of level-dependent M/G/1-type, by modifying the above-mentioned algorithm slightly. In principle, our algorithm is applicable to any Markov chain of level-dependent M/G/1-type, if the Markov chain is irreducible and positive-recurrent. Furthermore, as an input to the algorithm, we can set an error bound for the computed conditional distribution, which is a notable feature of our algorithm. Some numerical examples are also provided.  相似文献

Discrete lifetime data are very common in engineering and medical researches. In many cases the lifetime is censored at a random or predetermined time and we do not know the complete survival time. There are many situations that the lifetime variable could be dependent on the time of censoring. In this paper we propose the dependent right censoring scheme in discrete setup when the lifetime and censoring variables have a bivariate geometric distribution. We obtain the maximum likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters with their risks in closed forms. The Bayes estimators as well as the constrained Bayes estimates of the unknown parameters under the squared error loss function are also obtained. We considered an extension to the case where covariates are present along with the data. Finally we provided a simulation study and an illustrative example with a real data.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce the slashed power-Lindley distribution. This model can be seen as an extension of the power-Lindley distribution with more flexibility in terms of the kurtosis of distribution. It arises as the ratio of two independent random variables, the one being a power-Lindley distribution and a power of the uniform distribution. We present properties and carry out estimates of the model parameters by the maximum likelihood method. Finally, we conduct a small simulation study to evaluate the performance of maximum likelihood estimators and we analyze a real data set to illustrate the usefulness of the new model.  相似文献

Researchers have been developing various extensions and modified forms of the Weibull distribution to enhance its capability for modeling and fitting different data sets. In this note, we investigate the potential usefulness of the new modification to the standard Weibull distribution called odd Weibull distribution in income economic inequality studies. Some mathematical and statistical properties of this model are proposed. We obtain explicit expressions for the first incomplete moment, quantile function, Lorenz and Zenga curves and related inequality indices. In addition to the well-known stochastic order based on Lorenz curve, the stochastic order based on Zenga curve is considered. Since the new generalized Weibull distribution seems to be suitable to model wealth, financial, actuarial and especially income distributions, these findings are fundamental in the understanding of how parameter values are related to inequality. Also, the estimation of parameters by maximum likelihood and moment methods is discussed. Finally, this distribution has been fitted to United States and Austrian income data sets and has been found to fit remarkably well in compare with the other widely used income models.  相似文献

We propose a new generalized geometric distribution which permits inflation/deflation of the zero count probability and study some of its properties. We also present an actuarial application of this distribution and fit it to three datasets used by other researchers. It is observed that the proposed distribution fits reasonably well to these data. Further, in a regression setup, the performance of this distribution is studied vis–a–vis other competing distributions used for explaining variability in a response variable.  相似文献

Motivated by molecular biology, there has been an upsurge of research activities in directional statistics in general and its Bayesian aspect in particular. The central distribution for the circular case is von Mises distribution which has two parameters (mean and concentration) akin to the univariate normal distribution. However, there has been a challenge to sample efficiently from the posterior distribution of the concentration parameter. We describe a novel, highly efficient algorithm to sample from the posterior distribution and fill this long-standing gap.  相似文献

The generalized exponential is the most commonly used distribution for analyzing lifetime data. This distribution has several desirable properties and it can be used quite effectively to analyse several skewed life time data. The main aim of this paper is to introduce absolutely continuous bivariate generalized exponential distribution using the method of Block and Basu (1974). In fact, the Block and Basu exponential distribution will be extended to the generalized exponential distribution. We call the new proposed model as the Block and Basu bivariate generalized exponential distribution, then, discuss its different properties. In this case the joint probability distribution function and the joint cumulative distribution function can be expressed in compact forms. The model has four unknown parameters and the maximum likelihood estimators cannot be obtained in explicit form. To compute the maximum likelihood estimators directly, one needs to solve a four dimensional optimization problem. The EM algorithm has been proposed to compute the maximum likelihood estimations of the unknown parameters. One data analysis is provided for illustrative purposes. Finally, we propose some generalizations of the proposed model and compare their models with each other.  相似文献

The Gompertz distribution has many applications, particularly in medical and actuarial studies. However, there has been little recent work on the Gompertz in comparison with its early investigation. The problem of finding and analysing a bivariate (or multivariate) Gompertz distribution is of interest and the focus of this paper. A search of the literature suggests there is currently no multivariate or even useful bivariate Gompertz distribution.  相似文献
