Emily Bronte is one of the most famous and outstanding novelists in English literature. In her only novel Wuthering Heights, Emily successfully depicts a very complex character – Heathcliff, who is the central figure of the whole story. He is regarded as a devil for his brutal behaviors of revenge. However, his ruthlessness on the surface cannot completely reflect the feeling of his interior world. As a matter of fact, he is only a solitary and pitiable man who lives a miserable life since he is born. Although he acts entirely like a devil in pursuing revenge, he still can be called a hero because of the good qualities hidden in the depth of his soul. Heathcliff is such a unique character in Wuthering Heights that it is always difficult for readers to comprehend his inner conflict and make an appropriate judgment for him. This thesis offers a detailed analysis of Heathcliff's special character and gives a new interpretation for the complexity and profundity of human nature.  相似文献

MAYBE I should be grateful to my mother. When I was very young, she taught me how to knit socks. Using a kind of white nylon thread and a needle made from a kind of hairpin, a durable sock could be made. Before long I had mastered the skill, then knit a pair of socks for each of my family members. However, my mother seemed to be a collector of socks and didn't allow me to stop knitting them until I came to hate this task. Luckily, my mother changed her interest. One day while she was  相似文献

One day in 1988, 17-year-old Yin resigned from her job and bid farewell to the stable work and welfare that she had enjoyed in a stateowned enterprise. Her bold action drew attention and caused many comments. "She's like a new-bom calf making little of a tiger. She hasn't even left a route of retreat for herself," people remarked. However, Yin Xiwen said, "I don't want to have a route of retreat. Only by doing this can I find a path of my own." Jiang Bibo loves to employ the image of rocks in her woodblocks. Her figurines often bear veins of the rocks, featuring an interweaving of strength and softness, a mixture of a humanized nature and naturized humans. In her woodblock Longing for the Green the artist expresses her call for an unpolluted nature. The Goddess of Nature looks sad because nothing is left of her green gown but a small bunch of grass in her hand.  相似文献

Bronze Elephant
A rare find among Shang Dynasty bronzes in China, this bronze elephant was unearthed in a hillside in Liling County, Hunan. It was probably buried by slave owners as a sacrifice to the mountains and lakes. The bronze elephant served as a wine vessel. Wine was poured into the large opening at the elephant's back, and was served through its trunk. It is 22.8 cm tall, 26.5 cm long and weighs 2.8 kg. The body of the vessel was carved with animal motifs. The front of the trunk, for example, is carved into the shape of a phoenix with a hooked beak. A tiger is crouched on the comb of the phoenix, and a snake curls out of its beak. The base of the trunk is decorated with another snake, with its head near the mouth of the elephant. The entire trunk is decorated with scales.  相似文献
