The wrap-around (WD) L2-discrepancy has been commonly used in experimental designs. In this paper, some lower bounds of the WD L2-discrepancy for asymmetrical U-type designs are given and the expectation and variance of midpoint Latin hypercube designs (LHD) are also obtained. Relationships between midpoint LHD and uniform designs for symmetrical and asymmetrical cases are discussed in the sense of comparing the lower bound and the expectation of squared wrap-around L2-discrepancy of U-type designs. Some comparisons between simple random sampling and the lower bounds of U-type designs are given.  相似文献

The question of nonuniqueness of the least absolute values (L1) regression is discussed, and examples are given of situations where the L1-regression is unique and where it has 2, 3 and 4 limiting positions. A method is proposed for finding a compromise regression line when the L1 regression is not unique. Suggestions are made for further research.  相似文献

Uniform designs are widely used in various applications. However, it is computationally intractable to construct uniform designs, even for moderate number of runs, factors and levels. We establish a linear relationship between average squared centered L2-discrepancy and generalized wordlength pattern, and then based on it, we propose a general method for constructing uniform designs with arbitrary number of levels. The main idea is to choose a generalized minimum aberration design and then permute its levels. We propose a novel stochastic algorithm and obtain many new uniform designs that have smaller centered L2-discrepancies than the existing ones.  相似文献

New series of incomplete block designs for symmetrical parallel lines are proposed. From these designs important contrasts like Lp, L1 and L1 are estimated free from block effects. In this paper we propose a new criterion, minimum aberration majorization, for comparing non-isomorphic saturated designs. This criterion is based on the generalized word-length pattern proposed by Ma and Fang (Metrika 53 (2001) 85) and Xu and Wu (Ann. Statist. 29 (2001) 1066) and majorization theory. The criterion has been successfully applied to check non-isomorphism and rank order saturated designs. Examples are given through five non-isomorphic L16(215) designs and two L27(313) designs.  相似文献

Sequential experiment is an indispensable strategy and is applied immensely to various fields of science and engineering. In such experiments, it is desirable that a given design should retain the properties as much as possible when few runs are added to it. The designs based on sequential experiment strategy are called extended designs. In this paper, we have studied theoretical properties of such experimental strategies using uniformity measure. We have also derived a lower bound of extended designs under wrap-around L2-discrepancy measure. Moreover, we have provided an algorithm to construct uniform (or nearly uniform) extended designs. For ease of understanding, some examples are also presented and a lot of sequential strategies for a 27-run original design are tabulated for practice.  相似文献

Supersaturated designs are an increasingly popular tool for screening factors in the presence of effect sparsity. The advantage of this class of designs over resolution III factorial designs or Plackett–Burman designs is that n, the number of runs, can be substantially smaller than the number of factors, m. A limitation associated with most supersaturated designs produced thus far is that the capability of these designs for estimating g active effects has not been discussed. In addition to exploring this capability, we develop a new class of model-robust supersaturated designs that, for a given n and m, maximizes the number g   of active effects that can be estimated simultaneously. The capabilities of model-robust supersaturated designs for model discrimination are assessed using a model-discrimination criterion, the subspace angle. Finally, we introduce the class of partially supersaturated designs, intended for use when we require a specific subset of m1m1 core factors to be estimable, and the sparsity of effects principle applies to the remaining (m-m1m-m1) factors.  相似文献

Optimality properties of approximate block designs are studied under variations of (1) the class of competing designs, (2) the optimality criterion, (3) the parametric function of interest, and (4) the statistical model. The designs which are optimal turn out to be the product of their treatment and block marginals, and uniform designs when the support is specified in advance. Optimality here means uniform, universal, and simultaneous jp-optimality. The classical balanced incomplete block designs are embedded into this approach, and shown to be simultaneously jp-optimal for a maximal system of identifiable parameters. A geometric account of universal optimality is given which applies beyond the context of block designs.  相似文献

The resistance of least absolute values (L1) estimators to outliers and their robustness to heavy-tailed distributions make these estimators useful alternatives to the usual least squares estimators. The recent development of efficient algorithms for L1 estimation in linear models has permitted their use in practical data analysis. Although in general the L1 estimators are not unique, there are a number of properties they all share. The set of all L1 estimators for a given model and data set can be characterized as the convex hull of some extreme estimators. Row and column designs are examined and the concept of majorization is applied to find optimal designs, when the observations are either independent or dependent. The dependence follows a first-order autoregression with parameter α. The case of two treatments is examined and the universally optimal or Φ-optimal designs are given, for different values of a, when the number of experimental units is even or odd. Uniform designs are widely used in various scientific investigations and industrial applications. By considering all possible level permutation of the factors, a connection between average centered L2-discrepancy and generalized wordlength pattern for asymmetrical fractional factorial designs is derived. Moreover, we present new lower bounds to the average centered L2-discrepancy for symmetrical and asymmetrical U-type designs. For illustration of the theoretical results, the lower bounds for symmetrical and asymmetrical U-type designs are tabulated, and numerical results indicate that our lower bounds behave well and can be recommended for use in practice.  相似文献

An important reason behind the success of the Taguchi methodology in qual- ity assurance has been the use of statistical methods, presented in a way that is accessible to the nonexpert user. Among the tools used to simplify the sta- tistical design of experiments has been the linear graph, apparently introduced by Taguchi. However, he did not consider the resolution of the corresponding designs (the higher the resolution, the more accurate the conclusions). For example, it will be shown that half of the linear graphs given by Taguchi for the L16(215) orthogonal array correspond to designs of resolution III, when designs of resolution IV are available (with the same lines in the linear graphs but with different assignments to the columns of the orthogonal array). A nontraditional but very straightforward method is presented for obtaining the alias chains and the linear graphs corresponding to an orthogonal array. The procedure can be easily understood and employed by nonstatisticians to find an experimental design of the highest possible resolution. The design can be used to obtain products or processes that are robust to variation.  相似文献

The objective of this article is to study the issue of employing the uniformity criterion measured by wrap-around L2-discrepancy to assess the optimal foldover plans. For mixed two- and three-level fractional factorials as the original designs, general foldover plan and combined design under a foldover plan are defined, and the equivalence between any foldover plan and its complementary foldover plan is investigated. A lower bound of wrap-around L2-discrepancy of combined designs under a general foldover plan is obtained, which can be used as a benchmark for searching optimal foldover plans. Moreover, it also provides a theoretical justification for optimal foldover plans in terms of uniformity criterion.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop a new mechanism for finding the optimal foldover plans (OFPs) which is based on the uniformity criteria measured by Lee discrepancy, wrap-around L2-discrepancy, and centered L2-discrepancy. For three-level fractional factorials as the original designs, general foldover plans and combined designs are defined, and lower bounds of these three discrepancies of combined designs under general foldover plans are also obtained, which can be used as benchmarks for searching OFPs. Illustrative examples with a comparison study between the foldover plans under these discrepancies are provided. Our results provide a theoretical justification for OFPs of three-level designs in terms of uniformity criteria.  相似文献

In many toxicological assays, interactions between primary and secondary effects may cause a downturn in mean responses at high doses. In this situation, the typical monotonicity assumption is invalid and may be quite misleading. Prior literature addresses the analysis of response functions with a downturn, but so far as we know, this paper initiates the study of experimental design for this situation. A growth model is combined with a death model to allow for the downturn in mean doses. Several different objective functions are studied. When the number of treatments equals the number of parameters, Fisher information is found to be independent of the model of the treatment means and on the magnitudes of the treatments. In general, A- and DA-optimal weights for estimating adjacent mean differences are found analytically for a simple model and numerically for a biologically motivated model. Results on c-optimality are also obtained for estimating the peak dose and the EC50 (the treatment with response half way between the control and the peak response on the increasing portion of the response function). Finally, when interest lies only in the increasing portion of the response function, we propose composite D-optimal designs.  相似文献

two‐stage studies may be chosen optimally by minimising a single characteristic like the maximum sample size. However, given that an investigator will initially select a null treatment e?ect and the clinically relevant di?erence, it is better to choose a design that also considers the expected sample size for each of these values. The maximum sample size and the two expected sample sizes are here combined to produce an expected loss function to ?nd designs that are admissible. Given the prior odds of success and the importance of the total sample size, minimising the expected loss gives the optimal design for this situation. A novel triangular graph to represent the admissible designs helps guide the decision‐making process. The H 0‐optimal, H 1‐optimal, H 0‐minimax and H 1‐minimax designs are all particular cases of admissible designs. The commonly used H 0‐optimal design is rarely good when allowing stopping for e?cacy. Additionally, the δ‐minimax design, which minimises the maximum expected sample size, is sometimes admissible under the loss function. A generalized neighbor design relaxes the equality condition on the number of times two treatments occur as neighbors in the design. In this article we have constructed a new series of generalized neighbor designs with equal block sizes, a series of neighbor designs of Rees [1967. Some designs of use in serology. Biometrics 23, 779–791] and a series of neighbor designs with two distinct block sizes. Two more new series of GN2 designs are also constructed for even number of treatments. It has been shown that quasi neighbor designs introduced by Preece [1994. Balanced Ouchterlony neighbor designs. J. Combin. Math. Combin. Comput. 15, 197–219] are special cases of generalized neighbor designs with t=2t=2. All the designs given here are binary. A new definition—partially balanced circuit design is introduced which is a special case of generalized neighbor designs with binary blocks.  相似文献

Abstract

A method of construction of A-optimal binary block designs for asymmetrical parallel line assays, i.e., the assays in which the number doses for standard and test preparation are unequal has been considered. The method is illustrated with examples. Two cases of this method have been considered. In the first case, designs obtained are of equal replications of the doses. The purpose of this article is to present the optimal designs based on D-, G-, A-, I-, and D β-optimality criteria for random coefficient regression (RCR) models with heteroscedastic errors. A sufficient condition for the heteroscedastic structure is given to make sure that the search of optimal designs can be confined at extreme settings of the design region when the criteria satisfy the assumption of the real valued monotone design criteria. Analytical solutions of D-, G-, A-, I-, and D β-optimal designs for the RCR models are derived. Two examples are presented for random slope models with specific heteroscedastic errors.  相似文献
