In this article we will consider industrial experiments in which some experimental factors have hard to change levels and others have levels which are easy to change. In such situations, fractional factorial split plot designs are often used where the hard to change factors are included as a subset of the whole plot factors and the easy to change factors make up the subplot factors. Here we consider the problem of finding two-level split plot designs which have minimum aberration among those designs which also minimize the number of level changes for the hard to change factors.  相似文献

Robust parameter design is an effective methodology for reducing variance and improving the quality of a product and a process. Recent work has mainly concentrated on two‐level robust parameter designs. We consider general robust parameter designs with factors having two or more or mixed levels these levels being either qualitative or quantitative. We propose a methodology and develop a generalised minimum aberration optimality criterion for selecting optimal robust parameter designs. A catalogue of 18‐run optimal designs is constructed and tabulated.  相似文献

It is known by Zhang and Park (J. Statist. Plann. Inference 91 (2000) 107) that there are no minimum aberration (MA) designs with respect to both treatments and blocks for blocked regular mixed-level factorial designs. So it should be compromised between the block wordlength pattern and treatment wordlength pattern. Two methods are considered in this article. The first is MA blocking scheme of an MA design. The other is to combine the components of the two wordlength pattern vectors into one combined wordlength pattern according to the modified hierarchical assumptions and an appropriate ordering of the numbers of alias or confounding relations. The relationship between the two types of optimal blocked designs is investigated. A complete catalogue of optimal blocked regular mixed factorial designs of the above two types with 16 or 32 runs is given.  相似文献

Experiments that study complex real world systems in business, engineering and sciences can be conducted at different levels of accuracy or sophistication. Nested space-filling designs are suitable for such multi-fidelity experiments. In this paper, we propose a systematic method to construct nested space-filling designs for experiments with two levels of accuracy. The method that makes use of nested difference matrices can be easily performed, many nested space-filling designs for experiments with two levels of accuracy can thus be constructed, and the resulting designs achieve stratification in low dimensions. In addition, the proposed method can also be used to obtain sliced space-filling designs for conducting computer experiments with both qualitative and quantitative factors.  相似文献

The concept of minimum aberration has been extended to choose blocked fractional factorial designs (FFDs). The minimum aberration criterion ranks blocked FFDs according to their treatment and block wordlength patterns, which are often obtained by counting words in the treatment defining contrast subgroups and alias sets. When the number of factors is large, there are a huge number of words to be counted, causing some difficulties in computation. Based on coding theory, the concept of minimum moment aberration, proposed by Xu [Statist. Sinica, 13 (2003) 691–708] for unblocked FFDs, is extended to blocked FFDs. A method is then proposed for constructing minimum aberration blocked FFDs without using defining contrast subgroups and alias sets. Minimum aberration blocked FFDs for all 32 runs, 64 runs up to 32 factors, and all 81 runs are given with respect to three combined wordlength patterns.  相似文献

Two symmetric fractional factorial designs with qualitative and quantitative factors are equivalent if the design matrix of one can be obtained from the design matrix of the other by row and column permutations, relabeling of the levels of the qualitative factors and reversal of the levels of the quantitative factors. In this paper, necessary and sufficient methods of determining equivalence of any two symmetric designs with both types of factors are given. An algorithm used to check equivalence or non-equivalence is evaluated. If two designs are equivalent the algorithm gives a set of permutations which map one design to the other. Fast screening methods for non-equivalence are considered. Extensions of results to asymmetric fractional factorial designs with qualitative and quantitative factors are discussed.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Split-plot designs have been utilized in factorial experiments with some factors applied to larger units and others to smaller units. Such designs with low aberration are preferred when the experimental size and the number of factors considered in both whole plot and subplot are determined. The minimum aberration split-plot designs can be obtained using either computer algorithms or the exhausted search. In this article, we propose a simple, easy-to-operate approach by using two ordered sequences of columns from two orthogonal arrays in obtaining minimum aberration split-plot designs for experiments of sizes 16 and 32.  相似文献

There are two different systems of contrast parameterization when analyzing the interaction effects among the factors with more than two levels, i.e., linear-quadratic system and orthogonal components system. Based on the former system and an ANOVA model, Xu and Wu (2001) introduced the generalized wordlength pattern for general factorial designs. This paper shows that the generalized wordlength pattern exactly measures the balance pattern of interaction columns of a symmetrical design ground on the orthogonal components system, and thus an alternative angle to look at the generalized minimum aberration criterion is given. The presence of block effects makes the optimal selection of fractional factorial designs a difficult task. The existing frequentist methods try to combine treatment and block wordlength patterns and apply minimum aberration criterion to find the optimal design. However, ambiguities exist in combining the two wordlength patterns and therefore, the optimality of such designs can be challenged. Here we propose a Bayesian approach to overcome this problem. The main technique is to postulate a model and a prior distribution to satisfy the common assumptions in blocking and then, to develop an optimal design criterion for the efficient estimation of treatment effects. We apply our method to develop regular, nonregular, and mixed-level blocked designs. Several examples are presented to illustrate the advantages of the proposed method.  相似文献

The confounding and aliasing scheme for fractional factorial split-plot designs with the units within each wholeplot arranged in rows and columns is described and illustrated. Isomorphism for this design type is described, together with a procedure which considers extensions of the concepts of wordlength patterns and letter patterns that can be used to test isomorphism between designs. Using in part this isomorphism testing procedure, a construction algorithm that may be used to obtain a complete set of such non-isomorphic two-level designs is described. Software based on this construction algorithm was used to obtain a complete set of non-isomorphic designs for up to five wholeplot factors, five subplot factors and up to 64 runs, which is presented as a table of designs. To aid the experimenter in distinguishing between competing designs, the estimation capacity sequence for each design is presented.  相似文献

This paper discusses the issue of choosing optimal designs when both blocking and foldover techniques are simultaneously employed to nonregular two-level fractional factorial designs. By using the indicator function, the treatment and block generalized wordlength patterns of the combined blocked design under a general foldover plan are defined. Some general properties of combined block designs are also obtained. Our results extend the findings of Ai et al. (2010) from regular designs to nonregular designs. Based on these theoretical results, a catalog of optimal blocking and foldover plans in terms of the generalized aberration criterion for nonregular initial design with 12, 16 and 20 runs is tabulated, respectively.  相似文献

The authors introduce the notion of split generalized wordlength pattern (GWP), i.e., treatment GWP and block GWP, for a blocked nonregular factorial design. They generalize the minimum aberration criterion to suit this type of design. Connections between factorial design theory and coding theory allow them to obtain combinatorial identities that govern the relationship between the split GWP of a blocked factorial design and that of its blocked consulting design. These identities work for regular and nonregular designs. Furthermore, the authors establish general rules for identifying generalized minimum aberration (GMA) blocked designs through their blocked consulting designs. Finally they tabulate and compare some GMA blocked designs from Hall's orthogonal array OA(16,215,2) of type III.  相似文献

Uniform designs are widely used in various scientific investigations and industrial applications. By considering all possible level permutation of the factors, a connection between average centered L2-discrepancy and generalized wordlength pattern for asymmetrical fractional factorial designs is derived. Moreover, we present new lower bounds to the average centered L2-discrepancy for symmetrical and asymmetrical U-type designs. For illustration of the theoretical results, the lower bounds for symmetrical and asymmetrical U-type designs are tabulated, and numerical results indicate that our lower bounds behave well and can be recommended for use in practice.  相似文献

In this paper, by introducing a concept of consulting design and based on the connection between factorial design theory and coding theory, we obtain combinatorial identities that relate the wordlength pattern of a regular mixed factorial design to that of its consulting design. According to these identities, we further-more establish the general and unified rules for identifying minimum aberration mixed factorial designs through their consulting designs. It is an improvement and generalization of the results in Mukerjee and Wu (2001). This paper is supported by NNSF of China grant No. 10171051 and RFDP grant No. 1999005512.  相似文献

Uniform designs are widely used in various applications. However, it is computationally intractable to construct uniform designs, even for moderate number of runs, factors and levels. We establish a linear relationship between average squared centered L2-discrepancy and generalized wordlength pattern, and then based on it, we propose a general method for constructing uniform designs with arbitrary number of levels. The main idea is to choose a generalized minimum aberration design and then permute its levels. We propose a novel stochastic algorithm and obtain many new uniform designs that have smaller centered L2-discrepancies than the existing ones.  相似文献

A supersaturated design (SSD) is a factorial design in which the degrees of freedom for all its main effects exceed the total number of distinct factorial level-combinations (runs) of the design. Designs with quantitative factors, in which level permutation within one or more factors could result in different geometrical structures, are very different from designs with nominal ones which have been treated as traditional designs. In this paper, a new criterion is proposed for SSDs with quantitative factors. Comparison and analysis for this new criterion are made. It is shown that the proposed criterion has a high efficiency in discriminating geometrically nonisomorphic designs and an advantage in computation.  相似文献

The D‐optimal minimax criterion is proposed to construct fractional factorial designs. The resulting designs are very efficient, and robust against misspecification of the effects in the linear model. The criterion was first proposed by Wilmut & Zhou (2011); their work is limited to two‐level factorial designs, however. In this paper we extend this criterion to designs with factors having any levels (including mixed levels) and explore several important properties of this criterion. Theoretical results are obtained for construction of fractional factorial designs in general. This minimax criterion is not only scale invariant, but also invariant under level permutations. Moreover, it can be applied to any run size. This is an advantage over some other existing criteria. Neighbour balance and evenness of distribution designs help to address user concerns in the two‐dimensional layout of agricultural field trials. This is done by minimising the occurrence of pairwise treatment plot neighbours and ensuring that the replications of treatments are spread out across rows and columns of a trial. Such considerations result in a restriction on the normal randomisation process for a row‐column design which can lead to error variance bias. In this paper, uniformity trial data is used to assess the degree of this bias for both resolvable and non‐resolvable designs. Comparisons are made with a similar investigation using Linear Variance spatial designs.  相似文献

Principles and laws that apply to nonorthogonal multiphase experiments are developed and illustrated using examples that are nonorthogonal but structure‐balanced, not structure, but first‐order, balanced or unbalanced, thus exposing the differences between the different design types. The design of such experiments using standard designs, a catalogue of designs and computer searches is exemplified. Factor–allocation diagrams are employed to depict the allocations in the examples, and used in producing the anatomies of designs or, when possible, the related skeleton‐analysis‐of‐variance tables, to assess the properties of designs. The formulation of mixed models based on them is also described. Tools used for structure‐balanced experiments are also shown to be applicable to those experiments that are not.  相似文献

This paper presents the sinplesr procedure that uses wodular aryithmetic for constructing confounded designs for mixed factorial experiments. The present procedure and the classical one for confounding in symmetrical factorial experiments are both at the same mathema.tical level. The present procedure is written for
