A Note on Regression-Type Estimators Using Multiple Auxiliary Information   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Kiregyera (1984), Mukerjee, Rao & Vijayan (1987), and Tripathi & Ahmed (1995) considered a number of regression-type estimators where information on two auxiliary variables related to study variable is available at different levels. Mukerjee et al . (1987) suggested three estimators and computed their mean square errors, but the computations seem to be incorrect. This note corrects them, and finds their estimators are no better than that of Kiregyera (1984). The estimator suggested by Tripathi & Ahmed (1995) is the best in the sense of having the smallest mean square error.  相似文献

This article considers some classes of estimators of the population median of the study variable using information on an auxiliary variable with their properties under large sample approximation. Asymptotic optimum estimator (AOE) in each class of estimators has been investigated along with the approximate mean square error formulae. It has been shown that the proposed classes of estimators are better than these considered by Gross (1980 Gross , T. S. ( 1980 ). Median estimation in sample surveys. Proc. Surv. Res. Meth. Sect. Amer. Statist. Assoc. 181–184 . [Google Scholar]), Kuk and Mak (1989 Kuk , A. Y. C. , Mak , T. K. ( 1989 ). Median estimation in the presence of auxiliary information . J. Roy. Statist. Soc. Ser. This article proposes Hartley-Ross type unbiased estimators of finite population mean using information on known parameters of auxiliary variate when the study variate and auxiliary variate are positively correlated. The variances of the proposed unbiased estimators are obtained. It has been shown that the proposed estimators are more efficient than the simple mean estimator, usual ratio estimator and estimators proposed by Sisodia and Dwivedi (1981 Sisodia , B. V. S. , Dwivedi , V. K. ( 1981 ). A modified ratio estimator using coefficient of variation of auxiliary variable . J. Indian Soc. Agricultural Statist. 33 ( 1 ): 1318 . [Google Scholar]), Kadilar and Cingi (2006 Kadilar , C. , Cingi , H. ( 2006 ). A new ratio estimator using correlation coefficient . Int. Empirical studies are also carried out to demonstrate the merits of the proposed unbiased estimators over other estimators considered in this article.  相似文献

This article suggests an improved class of estimators for estimating the general population parameter using information on an auxiliary variable. The properties of the suggested class of estimators have been studied under large sample approximation. The general results are then applied to estimate the population coefficient of variation of study variable using auxiliary information. An empirical study is given in support of the theoretical results.  相似文献

This article advocates the problem of estimating the population variance of the study variable using information on certain known parameters of an auxiliary variable. A class of estimators for population variance using information on an auxiliary variable has been defined. In addition to many estimators, usual unbiased estimator, Isaki's (1983), Upadhyaya and Singh's (1999), and Kadilar and Cingi's (2006) estimators are shown as members of the proposed class of estimators. Asymptotic expressions for bias and mean square error of the proposed class of estimators have been obtained. An empirical study has been carried out to judge the performance of the various estimators of population variance generated from the proposed class of estimators over usual unbiased estimator, Isaki's (1983), Upadhyaya and Singh's (1999) and Kadilar and Cingi's (2006) estimators.  相似文献

This article addresses the problem of estimating the population mean in stratified random sampling using the information of an auxiliary variable. A class of estimators for population mean is defined with its properties under large sample approximation. In particular, various classes of estimators are identified as particular member of the suggested class. It has been shown that the proposed class of estimators is better than usual unbiased estimator, usual combined ratio estimator, usual product estimator, usual regression estimator and Koyuncu and Kadilar (2009 Koyuncu, N., Kadilar, C. (2009). Ratio and product estimators in stratified random sampling. J. Statist. Plan. Infere. 139:25522558.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) class of estimators. The results have been illustrated through an empirical study.  相似文献

The Kaplan–Meier estimator of a survival function requires that the censoring indicator is always observed. A method of survival function estimation is developed when the censoring indicators are missing completely at random (MCAR). The resulting estimator is a smooth functional of the Nelson–Aalen estimators of certain cumulative transition intensities. The asymptotic properties of this estimator are derived. A simulation study shows that the proposed estimator has greater efficiency than competing MCAR-based estimators. The approach is extended to the Cox model setting for the estimation of a conditional survival function given a covariate.  相似文献

This article addresses the problem of estimating the population variance using auxiliary information in the presence of measurement errors. When the measurement error variance associated with study variable is known, a class of estimators of the population variance using auxiliary information has been proposed. We obtain the bias and mean squared errors of the suggested class of estimators upto the terms of order n ?1, and also optimum estimators in asymptotic sense of the class with approximate mean squared error formula.  相似文献

Recently, Koyuncu et al. (2013 Koyuncu, N., Gupta, S., Sousa, R. (2014). Exponential type estimators of the mean of a sensitive variable in the presence of non-sensitive auxiliary information. Communications in Statistics- Simulation and Computation[PubMed], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) proposed an exponential type estimator to improve the efficiency of mean estimator based on randomized response technique. In this article, we propose an improved exponential type estimator which is more efficient than the Koyuncu et al. (2013 Koyuncu, N., Gupta, S., Sousa, R. (2014). Exponential type estimators of the mean of a sensitive variable in the presence of non-sensitive auxiliary information. Communications in Statistics- Simulation and Computation[PubMed], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) estimator, which in turn was shown to be more efficient than the usual mean estimator, ratio estimator, regression estimator, and the Gupta et al. (2012 Gupta, S., Shabbir, J., Sousa, R., Corte-Real, P. (2012). Regression estimation of the mean of a sensitive variable in the presence of auxiliary information. Communications in Statistics – Theory and Methods 41:23942404.[Taylor &; Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) estimator. Under simple random sampling without replacement (SRSWOR) scheme, bias and mean square error expressions for the proposed estimator are obtained up to first order of approximation and comparisons are made with the Koyuncu et al. (2013 Koyuncu, N., Gupta, S., Sousa, R. (2014). Exponential type estimators of the mean of a sensitive variable in the presence of non-sensitive auxiliary information. Communications in Statistics- Simulation and Computation[PubMed], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) estimator. A simulation study is used to observe the performances of these two estimators. Theoretical findings are also supported by a numerical example with real data. We also show how to, extend the proposed estimator to the case when more than one auxiliary variable is available.  相似文献

This article suggests an improved class of estimators under the general framework of two-phase sampling scheme in presence of two auxiliary variables. In this article, we propose naïve estimator, ratio estimator, and difference estimator of the mode of a study variable by using the known mode of an auxiliary variable. The asymptotic properties of the proposed estimators are studied analytically as well as empirically for different situations. The proper use of auxiliary information is found to result in efficient ratio and difference estimators than the naïve estimator.  相似文献

Small area estimators in linear models are typically expressed as a convex combination of direct estimators and synthetic estimators from a suitable model. When auxiliary information used in the model is measured with error, a new estimator, accounting for the measurement error in the covariates, has been proposed in the literature. Recently, for area‐level model, Ybarra & Lohr (Biometrika, 95, 2008, 919) suggested a suitable modification to the estimates of small area means based on Fay & Herriot (J. Am. Stat. Assoc., 74, 1979, 269) model where some of the covariates are measured with error. They used a frequentist approach based on the method of moments. Adopting a Bayesian approach, we propose to rewrite the measurement error model as a hierarchical model; we use improper non‐informative priors on the model parameters and show, under a mild condition, that the joint posterior distribution is proper and the marginal posterior distributions of the model parameters have finite variances. We conduct a simulation study exploring different scenarios. The Bayesian predictors we propose show smaller empirical mean squared errors than the frequentist predictors of Ybarra & Lohr (Biometrika, 95, 2008, 919), and they seem also to be more stable in terms of variability and bias. We apply the proposed methodology to two real examples.

In this paper, we consider the estimation of parameters of a general near regression model. An estimator that minimises the weighted Wilcoxon dispersion function is considered and its asymptotic properties established under mild regularity conditions similar to those used in least squares and least absolute deviations estimation. As in linear models, the procedure provides estimators that are robust and highly efficient. The estimates depend on the choice of a weight function and diagnostics which differentiate between nonlinear fits are provided along with appropriate benchmarks. The behavior of these estimates is discussed on a real data set. A simulation study verifies the robustness, efficiency and validity of these estimates over several error distributions including the normal and a family of contaminated normal distributions.  相似文献

The Chow test compares regressions developed from two samples from possibly different populations. Its use has traditionally been recommended only when the number of observations in one of the samples does not exceed the number of predictor variables. It is shown that when that condition is not satisfied, the test remains uniformly most powerful (UMP) among a certain class of tests against an important class of alternatives.  相似文献

A general family of estimators, which use the information of two auxiliary variables in the stratified random sampling, is proposed to estimate the population mean of the variable under study. Under stratified random sampling without replacement scheme, the expressions of bias and mean square error (MSE) up to the first- and second-order approximations are derived. The family of estimators in its optimum case is discussed. Also, an empirical study is carried out to show the properties of the proposed estimators.  相似文献

M-quantile regression is defined as a “quantile-like” generalization of robust regression based on influence functions. This article outlines asymptotic properties for the M-quantile regression coefficients estimators in the case of i.i.d. data with stochastic regressors, paying attention to adjustments due to the first-step scale estimation. A variance estimator of the M-quantile regression coefficients based on the sandwich approach is proposed. Empirical results show that this estimator appears to perform well under different simulated scenarios. The sandwich estimator is applied in the small area estimation context for the estimation of the mean squared error of an estimator for the small area means. The results obtained improve previous findings, especially in the case of heteroskedastic data.  相似文献

In this article, we propose some families of estimators for finite population variance of post-stratified sample mean using information on two auxiliary variables. The families of estimators are discussed in their optimum cases. The MSE of these estimators are derived to the first order of approximation. The percent relative efficiency of proposed families of estimators has been demonstrated with the numerical illustrations.  相似文献
