General Outlook
By the end of 2013, the total population in the mainland reached 1,360.72 million, an increase of 6.68 million over that at the end of 2012. Of this total, urban permanent residents numbered 731.11million, accounting for 53.73 percent, or 1.16 percentage points higher than that at the end of the previous year. The year 2013 saw 16.40 million births, a crude birth rate of 12.08 per thousand, and 9.72 million deaths, or a crude death rate of 7.16 per thousand.

Hong Kong Population to Increase in Three Decades

The population in China抯 Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will increase from 6.72 million at present to 8.72 million in 2032 at an annual growth rate of 0.9%, according to Hong Kong SAR statistics. Urban Unemployment Rate Declines

Nine million new jobs are to be created in 2005, according to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. For the first time in five years, the jobless rate dropped in 2005, and the labor market is seeing a slight rebound. In its Global AIDS Report for 2002 released on July 2, 2002, the UNAIDS said that AIDS had spread to every corner of the Asia-Pacific region and was rampant in some areas. Four Causes for Rapid Spread of AIDS in Shenzhen

Shanghai Leads the Country In Per Capita Income

Shanghai has the highest per capita income, while inland province Shanxi has the lowest, according to a new survey. The survey, conducted by the State Statistical Bureau of 44,000 urban residents, shows that in the first half of 2001, the average per capita disposable income of urban residents stood at RMB3,424 (US$420), an actual increase of 5.5% over the same period last year, considering inflation. The latest population data released from Statistics and Census Service of Macao SAR Government showed there were 552,300 people by the end of 2010. Compared to the number of people by the end of 2009,there was an increase of 10,100 people or 1.9% of its total population.
