Under appropriate conditions cumulative regret Rn = r1+…rn is shown to have a finite limit even when n tends to infinity. This paper investigates tail behavior of the randomly weighted sum ∑nk = 1θkXk and reaches an asymptotic formula, where Xk, 1 ? k ? n, are real-valued linearly wide quadrant-dependent (LWQD) random variables with a common heavy-tailed distribution, and θk, 1 ? k ? n, independent of Xk, 1 ? k ? n, are n non-negative random variables without any dependence assumptions. The LWQD structure includes the linearly negative quadrant-dependent structure, the negatively associated structure, and hence the independence structure. On the other hand, it also includes some positively dependent random variables and some other random variables. The obtained result coincides with the existing ones.  相似文献

This paper offers a predictive approach for the selection of a fixed number (= t) of treatments from k treatments with the goal of controlling for predictive losses. For the ith treatment, independent observations X ij (j = 1,2,…,n) can be observed where X ij ’s are normally distributed N(θ i ; σ 2). The ranked values of θ i ’s and X i ’s are θ (1) ≤ … ≤ θ (k) and X [1] ≤ … ≤ X [k] and the selected subset S = {[k], [k? 1], … , [k ? t+1]} will be considered. This paper distinguishes between two types of loss functions. A type I loss function associated with a selected subset S is the loss in utility from the selector’s view point and is a function of θ i with i ? S. A type II loss function associated with S measures the unfairness in the selection from candidates’ viewpoint and is a function of θ i with i ? S. This paper shows that under mild assumptions on the loss functions S is optimal and provides the necessary formulae for choosing n so that the two types of loss can be controlled individually or simultaneously with a high probability. Predictive bounds for the losses are provided, Numerical examples support the usefulness of the predictive approach over the design of experiment approach.  相似文献

We consider the problem of estimating the scale parameter θ M (or θ J ) of the selected population under the entropy loss function. For k ≥ 2, we obtain the Unique Minimum Risk Unbiased (UMRU) estimator of θ M (and θ J ). For k = 2, we derive the class of all linear admissible estimators of the form cX (2) (and cX (1)) and show that the UMRU estimator of θ M is inadmissible. The least-squares estimate θn = Xn+yn of the parameter θ in the linear model Yn = Xnθ + ?n may not be consistent, but there may be directions u such that un tends to u'θ in some sense. This set of directions u has been characterized in two different papers: Drygas (1976) and Wu (1980). The conditions for consistency appear to be different in the two papers. Given the regression model Yi = m(xi) +εi (xi ε C, i = l,…,n, C a compact set in R) where m is unknown and the random errors {εi} present an ARMA structure, we design a bootstrap method for testing the hypothesis that the regression function follows a general linear model: Ho : m ε {mθ(.) = At(.)θ : θ ε ? ? Rq} with A a functional from R to Rq. The criterion of the test derives from a Cramer-von-Mises type functional distance D = d2([mcirc]n, At(.)θn), between [mcirc]n, a Gasser-Miiller non-parametric estimator of m, and the member of the class defined in Ho that is closest to mn in terms of this distance. The consistency of the bootstrap distribution of D and θn is obtained under general conditions. Finally, simulations show the good behavior of the bootstrap approximation with respect to the asymptotic distribution of D = d2.  相似文献

Consider a sequence of independent random variables X 1, X 2,…,X n observed at n equally spaced time points where X i has a probability distribution which is known apart from the values of a parameter θ i R which may change from observation to observation. We consider the problem of estimating θ = (θ1, θ2,…,θ n ) given the observed values of X 1, X 2,…,X n . The paper proposes a prior distribution for the parameters θ for which sets of parameter values exhibiting no change, or no change apart from a few sudden large changes, or lots of small changes, all have positive prior probability. Markov chain sampling may be used to calculate Bayes estimates of the parameters. We report the results of a Monte Carlo study based on Poisson distributed data which compares the Bayes estimator with estimators obtained using cubic splines and with estimators derived from the Schwarz criterion. We conclude that the Bayes method is preferable in a minimax sense since it never produces the disastrously large errors of the other methods and pays only a modest price for this degree of safety. All three methods are used to smooth mortality rates for oesophageal cancer in Irish males aged 65–69 over the period 1955 through 1994.  相似文献

This paper develops a conditional approach to testing hypotheses set up after viewing the data. For example, suppose Xi are estimates of location parameters θi, i = 1,…n. Let Sn = X1 + … + Xn, where X1,…, Xn are independent Bernoulli random variables. In this paper, we evaluate probability metrics of the Wasserstein type between the distribution of Sn and a Poisson distribution. Our results show that, if E(Sn) = O(1) and if the individual probabilities of success of the Xi's tend uniformly to zero, then the general rate of convergence of the above mentioned metrics to zero is O(∑ni = 1P2i). (2006). Progressive Type II censored order statistics for multivariate observations. J. Mult. Anal. 97:797809.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]), with respect to the magnitudes of N(Xi), i = 1, 2, …, n, where N( · ) is a p-variate measurable function defined on the support set of X1 satisfying certain regularity conditions and N(Xi) denotes the lifetime of the random vector Xi, i = 1, …, n. Under the PCCOS-N sampling scheme, n independent units are placed on a life-test and after the ith failure, Ri (i = 1, …, m) of the surviving units are removed at random from the remaining observations. In this article, we consider PCCOS-N arising from a vector with identical as well as non identical dependent components, jointly distributed according to a unified elliptically contoured copula (PCCOSDUECC-N). Results established here contain the previous results as particular cases. Illustrative examples and simulation studies show that PCCOSDUECC-N enables us to analyze the lifetime of several systems, including repairable systems and systems with standby components, more efficiently than PCCOS-N.  相似文献

Estimators considered are conditional and unconditional maximum likelihood and modified maximum likelihood using a prior weight function to modify the likelihood before maximizing. Asymptotic expansions are developed for the [Ncirc]’s of the form [Ncirc] = N + α√N + β + op(1), where α and β are random variables. All estimators have the same α, which has mean 0, variance σ2 (a function of θ) and is asymptotically normal. Hence all are asymptotically equivalent by the usual limit distributional theory. The β’s differ and Eβ can be considered an “asymptotic bias”. Formulas are developed to compare the asymptotic biases of the various estimators. For a scale parameter family of absolutely continuous distributions with X = (0,∞) and R = (T,∞), special formuli are developed and a best estimator is found.  相似文献
