In this paper, we develop a generalized version of the two-piece skew normal distribution of Kim [On a class of two-piece skew-normal distributions, Statistics 39(6) (2005), pp. 537–553] and derive explicit expressions for its distribution function and characteristic function and discuss some of its important properties. Further estimation of the parameters of the generalized distribution is carried out.  相似文献

The representations of the skewed normal distribution given in Propositions 1–4 in Genton (Ed., 2004) are considered here from a unified geometric point of view and are, based upon this, generalized in two respects. On the one hand, the four concrete representations motivate us for a unified and much more general algebraic–geometric representation of the skewed normal distribution (Theorems 1 and 2 as well as Remarks 2 and 3); on the other hand, the mentioned representations are generalized to the elliptically contoured case (Propositions and Corollaries 1c–4c).  相似文献

In this article, we develop the skew-generalized normal distribution introduced by Arellano-Valle et al. (2004 Arellano-Valle, R.B., Gomez, H.W., Quintana, F.A. (2004). A new class of skew-normal distribution. Commun. Stat. - Theory Methods. 33(7):14651480.[Taylor &; Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) to a new family of the Beta skew-generalized normal (BSGN) distribution . Here, we present some theorems and properties of BSGN distribution and obtain its moment-generating function.  相似文献

In this paper, we prove that the joint distribution of random vectors Z 1 and Z 2 and the distribution of Z 2 are skew normal provided that Z 1 is skew normally distributed and Z 2 conditioning on Z 1 is distributed as closed skew normal. Also, we extend the main results to the matrix variate case.  相似文献

The modeling and analysis of experiments is an important aspect of statistical work in a wide variety of scientific and technological fields. We introduce and study the odd log-logistic skew-normal model, which can be interpreted as a generalization of the skew-normal distribution. The new distribution can be used effectively in the analysis of experiments data since it accommodates unimodal, bimodal, symmetric, bimodal and right-skewed, and bimodal and left-skewed density function depending on the parameter values. We illustrate the importance of the new model by means of three real data sets in analysis of experiments.  相似文献

Two new and simple expressions, one for 0 ≤ x ≤ 2 and another for x > 2, for the normal distribution function, are developed which can be easily computed on desk calculators. They are also comparable in accuracy to the one developed by Patry and Keller (1964).  相似文献

Azzalini and Dalla Valle have recently discussed the multivariate skew normal distribution which extends the class of normal distributions by the addition of a shape parameter. The first part of the present paper examines further probabilistic properties of the distribution, with special emphasis on aspects of statistical relevance. Inferential and other statistical issues are discussed in the following part, with applications to some multivariate statistics problems, illustrated by numerical examples. Finally, a further extension is described which introduces a skewing factor of an elliptical density.  相似文献

Abstract

The most commonly studied generalized normal distribution is the well-known skew-normal by Azzalini. In this paper, a new generalized normal distribution is defined and studied. The distribution is unimodal and it can be skewed right or left. The relationships between the parameters and the mean, variance, skewness, and kurtosis are discussed. It is observed that the new distribution has a much wider range of skewness and kurtosis than the skew-normal distribution. The method of maximum likelihood is proposed to estimate the distribution parameters. Two real data sets are applied to illustrate the flexibility of the distribution.  相似文献

A screening problem is tackled by proposing a parametric class of distributions designed to match the behavior of the partially observed screened data. This class is obtained from the nontruncated marginal of the rectangle-truncated multivariate normal distributions. Motivations for the screened distribution as well as some of the basic properties, such as its characteristic function, are presented. These allow us a detailed exploration of other important properties that include closure property in linear transformation, in marginal and conditional operations, and in a mixture operation as well as the first two moments and some sampling distributions. Various applications of these results to the statistical modelling and data analysis are also provided.  相似文献

Folded normal distribution originates from the modulus of normal distribution. In the present article, we have formulated the cumulative distribution function (cdf) of a folded normal distribution in terms of standard normal cdf and the parameters of the mother normal distribution. Although cdf values of folded normal distribution were earlier tabulated in the literature, we have shown that those values are valid for very particular situations. We have also provided a simple approach to obtain values of the parameters of the mother normal distribution from those of the folded normal distribution. These results find ample application in practice, for example, in obtaining the so-called upper and lower α-points of folded normal distribution, which, in turn, is useful in testing of the hypothesis relating to folded normal distribution and in designing process capability control chart of some process capability indices. A thorough study has been made to compare the performance of the newly developed theory to the existing ones. Some simulated as well as real-life examples have been discussed to supplement the theory developed in this article. Codes (generated by R software) for the theory developed in this article are also presented for the ease of application.  相似文献

Undoubtedly, the normal distribution is the most popular distribution in statistics. In this paper, we introduce a natural generalization of the normal distribution and provide a comprehensive treatment of its mathematical properties. We derive expressions for the nth moment, the nth central moment, variance, skewness, kurtosis, mean deviation about the mean, mean deviation about the median, Rényi entropy, Shannon entropy, and the asymptotic distribution of the extreme order statistics. We also discuss estimation by the methods of moments and maximum likelihood and provide an expression for the Fisher information matrix.  相似文献

In this paper we show that the Marshall-Olkin extended Weibull distribution can be obtained as a compound distribution with mixing exponential distribution. In addition, we provide simple sufficient conditions for the shape of the hazard rate function of the distribution. Moreover, we extend the considered distribution to accommodate randomly right censored data. Finally, application of the extended distribution to a data set representing the remission times of bladder cancer patients is given and its goodness-of-fit is demonstrated.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the family of skew generalized t (SGT) distributions originally introduced by Theodossiou [P. Theodossiou, Financial data and the skewed generalized t distribution, Manage. Sci. Part 1 44 (12) ( 1998), pp. 1650–1661] as a skew extension of the generalized t (GT) distribution. The SGT distribution family warrants special attention, because it encompasses distributions having both heavy tails and skewness, and many of the widely used distributions such as Student's t, normal, Hansen's skew t, exponential power, and skew exponential power (SEP) distributions are included as limiting or special cases in the SGT family. We show that the SGT distribution can be obtained as the scale mixture of the SEP and generalized gamma distributions. We investigate several properties of the SGT distribution and consider the maximum likelihood estimation of the location, scale, and skewness parameters under the assumption that the shape parameters are known. We show that if the shape parameters are estimated along with the location, scale, and skewness parameters, the influence function for the maximum likelihood estimators becomes unbounded. We obtain the necessary conditions to ensure the uniqueness of the maximum likelihood estimators for the location, scale, and skewness parameters, with known shape parameters. We provide a simple iterative re-weighting algorithm to compute the maximum likelihood estimates for the location, scale, and skewness parameters and show that this simple algorithm can be identified as an EM-type algorithm. We finally present two applications of the SGT distributions in robust estimation.  相似文献

This paper proposes a simple and flexible count data regression model which is able to incorporate overdispersion (the variance is greater than the mean) and which can be considered a competitor to the Poisson model. As is well known, this classical model imposes the restriction that the conditional mean of each count variable must equal the conditional variance. Nevertheless, for the common case of well-dispersed counts the Poisson regression may not be appropriate, while the count regression model proposed here is potentially useful. We consider an application to model counts of medical care utilization by the elderly in the USA using a well-known data set from the National Medical Expenditure Survey (1987), where the dependent variable is the number of stays after hospital admission, and where 10 explanatory variables are analysed.  相似文献

For sampling from a normal population with unknown mean, two families of prior densities for the mean are discussed. The corresponding posterior densities are found. A data analyst may choose a prior from these families to represent prior beliefs and then compute the corresponding Bayes estimator, using the techniques discussed.  相似文献

This article provides explicit integration rules for the quadrivariate and the pentavariate normal distribution. By analytically reducing the dimension of the problem and simplifying the functions to be integrated, these rules form the basis for a numerical evaluation scheme yielding an observed maximum error in the order of 10? 7 and a computational time of less than 10? 6 s. The implementation is very straightforward as it is based on a classical Gauss–Legendre quadrature. Order statistics are also dealt with.  相似文献

It is indicated to what extent the conditional normality of the distribution of one comnonent of a bivariate random vector given the value of the other component together with a restricted type of conditional normality or the marginal normality for the other component is equivalent to the bivariate normality of this random vector.  相似文献

We give sufficient identifiability conditions for estimating mixing proportions in two‐component mixtures of skew normal distributions with one known component. We consider the univariate case and two multivariate extensions: a multivariate skew normal distribution (MSN) and the canonical fundamental skew normal distribution (CFUSN). The characteristic function of the CFUSN distribution is additionally derived.  相似文献

In this paper, we adopt the Bayesian approach to expectile regression employing a likelihood function that is based on an asymmetric normal distribution. We demonstrate that improper uniform priors for the unknown model parameters yield a proper joint posterior. Three simulated data sets were generated to evaluate the proposed method which show that Bayesian expectile regression performs well and has different characteristics comparing with Bayesian quantile regression. We also apply this approach into two real data analysis.  相似文献
