In this article, we present and discuss an original price index being a special case of a general formula for price indices. We show that the discussed formula satisfies most postulates coming from the axiomatic price index theory. We compare this index to other known and popular price indices in a simulation study.  相似文献

This article considers a k level step-stress accelerated life testing (ALT) on series system products, where independent Weibull-distributed lifetimes are assumed for the components. Due to cost considerations or environmental restrictions, causes of system failures are masked and type-I censored observations might occur in the collected data. Bayesian approach combined with auxiliary variables is developed for estimating the parameters of the model. Further, the reliability and hazard rate functions of the system and components are estimated at a specified time at use stress level. The proposed method is illustrated through a numerical example based on two priors and various masking probabilities.  相似文献

Hierarchical models provide a useful framework for the complexities encountered in policy-relevant research in which the impact of social programs is being assessed. Such complexities include multi-site data, censored data and over-dispersion. In this paper, Bayesian inference through Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods is used for the analysis of a complex hierarchical log-normal model that shows the impact of a managed care strategy aimed at limiting length of hospital stays. Parameters in this model allow for variability in baseline length-of-stay as well as the program effect across hospitals. The authors demonstrate elicitation and sensitivity analysis with respect to prior distributions. All calculations for the posterior and predictive distributions were obtained using the software BUGS.  相似文献

Linear mixed models (LMM) are frequently used to analyze repeated measures data, because they are more flexible to modelling the correlation within-subject, often present in this type of data. The most popular LMM for continuous responses assumes that both the random effects and the within-subjects errors are normally distributed, which can be an unrealistic assumption, obscuring important features of the variations present within and among the units (or groups). This work presents skew-normal liner mixed models (SNLMM) that relax the normality assumption by using a multivariate skew-normal distribution, which includes the normal ones as a special case and provides robust estimation in mixed models. The MCMC scheme is derived and the results of a simulation study are provided demonstrating that standard information criteria may be used to detect departures from normality. The procedures are illustrated using a real data set from a cholesterol study.  相似文献

Bayesian selection of variables is often difficult to carry out because of the challenge in specifying prior distributions for the regression parameters for all possible models, specifying a prior distribution on the model space and computations. We address these three issues for the logistic regression model. For the first, we propose an informative prior distribution for variable selection. Several theoretical and computational properties of the prior are derived and illustrated with several examples. For the second, we propose a method for specifying an informative prior on the model space, and for the third we propose novel methods for computing the marginal distribution of the data. The new computational algorithms only require Gibbs samples from the full model to facilitate the computation of the prior and posterior model probabilities for all possible models. Several properties of the algorithms are also derived. The prior specification for the first challenge focuses on the observables in that the elicitation is based on a prior prediction y 0 for the response vector and a quantity a 0 quantifying the uncertainty in y 0. Then, y 0 and a 0 are used to specify a prior for the regression coefficients semi-automatically. Examples using real data are given to demonstrate the methodology.  相似文献

The problem of analyzing series system lifetime data with masked or partial information on cause of failure is recent, compared to that of the standard competing risks model. A generic Gibbs sampling scheme is developed in this article towards a Bayesian analysis for a general parametric competing risks model with masked cause of failure data. The masking probabilities are not subjected to the symmetry assumption and independent Dirichlet priors are used to marginalize these nuisance parameters. The developed methodology is illustrated for the case where the components of a series system have independent log-Normal life distributions by employing independent Normal-Gamma priors for these component lifetime parameters. The Gibbs sampling scheme developed for the required analysis can also be used to provide a Bayesian analysis of data arising from the conventional competing risks model of independent log-Normals, which interestingly has so far remained by and large neglected in the literature. The developed methodology is deployed to analyze a masked lifetime data of PS/2 computer systems.  相似文献

In this article we give the expression of the prior distribution of p1-P2, where P1 and P2 and independent proportions with a beta prior each. The expression derived for the posterior distribution of P1-P2 then shows the closure of the beta-difference family for independent dual Bernoulli samples. Other bayesian results are also presented.  相似文献

Prediction limits for Poisson distribution are useful in real life when predicting the occurrences of some phenomena, for example, the number of infections from a disease per year among school children, or the number of hospitalizations per year among patients with cardiovascular disease. In order to allocate the right resources and to estimate the associated cost, one would want to know the worst (i.e., an upper limit) and the best (i.e., the lower limit) scenarios. Under the Poisson distribution, we construct the optimal frequentist and Bayesian prediction limits, and assess frequentist properties of the Bayesian prediction limits. We show that Bayesian upper prediction limit derived from uniform prior distribution and Bayesian lower prediction limit derived from modified Jeffreys non informative prior coincide with their respective frequentist limits. This is not the case for the Bayesian lower prediction limit derived from a uniform prior and the Bayesian upper prediction limit derived from a modified Jeffreys prior distribution. Furthermore, it is shown that not all Bayesian prediction limits derived from a proper prior can be interpreted in a frequentist context. Using a counterexample, we state a sufficient condition and show that Bayesian prediction limits derived from proper priors satisfying our condition cannot be interpreted in a frequentist context. Analysis of simulated data and data on Atlantic tropical storm occurrences are presented.  相似文献

There are many factors which could influence the level of health of an individual. These factors are interactive and their overall effects on health are usually measured by an index which is called as health index. The health index could also be used as an indicator to describe the health level of a community. Since the health index is important, many research have been done to study its determinant. The main purpose of this study is to model the health index of an individual based on classical structural equation modeling (SEM) and Bayesian SEM. For estimation of the parameters in the measurement and structural equation models, the classical SEM applies the robust-weighted least-square approach, while the Bayesian SEM implements the Gibbs sampler algorithm. The Bayesian SEM approach allows the user to use the prior information for updating the current information on the parameter. Both methods are applied to the data gathered from a survey conducted in Hulu Langat, a district in Malaysia. Based on the classical and the Bayesian SEM, it is found that demographic status and lifestyle are significantly related to the health index. However, mental health has no significant relation to the health index.  相似文献

The authors consider the problem of Bayesian variable selection for proportional hazards regression models with right censored data. They propose a semi-parametric approach in which a nonparametric prior is specified for the baseline hazard rate and a fully parametric prior is specified for the regression coefficients. For the baseline hazard, they use a discrete gamma process prior, and for the regression coefficients and the model space, they propose a semi-automatic parametric informative prior specification that focuses on the observables rather than the parameters. To implement the methodology, they propose a Markov chain Monte Carlo method to compute the posterior model probabilities. Examples using simulated and real data are given to demonstrate the methodology.  相似文献

Bayesian alternatives to the classical F test comparing two population variances are explored. Shoemaker (2003 Shoemaker , L. H. ( 2003 ). Fixing the F test for equal variances . The Amer. Statistician 57 : 105114 .[Taylor & Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) suggested two adjustments to the F test due to it being very sensitive to the normal assumption of the two populations. A simulation study is performed to compare the Bayesian alternatives to the F test and Shoemaker's adjusted F tests as well as to the Levene/Brown–Forsythe and the squared rank nonparametric tests. The Bayesian alternatives assume a normal parent distribution and non informative priors and the conjugate prior for the variances; in addition, an exponential power distribution is considered as the parent distribution with a non informative prior for the variances. The latter looks to be very promising provided that a suitable value of a parameter which measures the extent of non normality is chosen.  相似文献

The authors propose methods for Bayesian inference for generalized linear models with missing covariate data. They specify a parametric distribution for the covariates that is written as a sequence of one‐dimensional conditional distributions. They propose an informative class of joint prior distributions for the regression coefficients and the parameters arising from the covariate distributions. They examine the properties of the proposed prior and resulting posterior distributions. They also present a Bayesian criterion for comparing various models, and a calibration is derived for it. A detailed simulation is conducted and two real data sets are examined to demonstrate the methodology.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the Bayesian inference of the unknown parameters of the randomly censored Weibull distribution. A joint conjugate prior on the model parameters does not exist; we assume that the parameters have independent gamma priors. Since closed-form expressions for the Bayes estimators cannot be obtained, we use Lindley's approximation, importance sampling and Gibbs sampling techniques to obtain the approximate Bayes estimates and the corresponding credible intervals. A simulation study is performed to observe the behaviour of the proposed estimators. A real data analysis is presented for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

Abstract

In this article, Bayesian inference for the Offered Optical Network Unit Load (OOL) using non-informative, gamma, power function, and gamma-power function priors is considered. Pareto distributed ON-and OFF-periods generated by the ON/OFF sources at an Optical Network Unit (ONU) in an Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) system are assumed for our implementation in this article. A simulation study and a real-data-based illustrative example are given to demonstrate the advantages of the proposed Bayesian method over the large-sample method.  相似文献

Single index model conditional quantile regression is proposed in order to overcome the dimensionality problem in nonparametric quantile regression. In the proposed method, the Bayesian elastic net is suggested for single index quantile regression for estimation and variables selection. The Gaussian process prior is considered for unknown link function and a Gibbs sampler algorithm is adopted for posterior inference. The results of the simulation studies and numerical example indicate that our propose method, BENSIQReg, offers substantial improvements over two existing methods, SIQReg and BSIQReg. The BENSIQReg has consistently show a good convergent property, has the least value of median of mean absolute deviations and smallest standard deviations, compared to the other two methods.  相似文献

This paper synthesizes a global approach to both Bayesian and likelihood treatments of the estimation of the parameters of a hidden Markov model in the cases of normal and Poisson distributions. The first step of this global method is to construct a non-informative prior based on a reparameterization of the model; this prior is to be considered as a penalizing and bounding factor from a likelihood point of view. The second step takes advantage of the special structure of the posterior distribution to build up a simple Gibbs algorithm. The maximum likelihood estimator is then obtained by an iterative procedure replicating the original sample until the corresponding Bayes posterior expectation stabilizes on a local maximum of the original likelihood function.  相似文献

This paper investigates the new prior distribution on the Unobserved-Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity (ARCH) unit root test. Monte Carlo simulations show that the sample size is seriously effective in efficiency of Bayesian test. To improve the performance of Bayesian test for unit root, we propose a new Bayesian test that is robust in the presence of stationary and nonstationary Unobserved-ARCH. The finite sample property of the proposed test statistic is evaluated using Monte Carlo studies. Applying the developed method, we test the policy of daily exchange rate of the German Marc with respect to the Greek Drachma.  相似文献

Multivariate density estimation plays an important role in investigating the mechanism of high-dimensional data. This article describes a nonparametric Bayesian approach to the estimation of multivariate densities. A general procedure is proposed for constructing Feller priors for multivariate densities and their theoretical properties as nonparametric priors are established. A blocked Gibbs sampling algorithm is devised to sample from the posterior of the multivariate density. A simulation study is conducted to evaluate the performance of the procedure.  相似文献

The two-parameter generalized exponential (GE) distribution was introduced by Gupta and Kundu [Gupta, R.D. and Kundu, D., 1999, Generalized exponential distribution. Australian and New Zealand Journal of Statistics, 41(2), 173–188.]. It was observed that the GE can be used in situations where a skewed distribution for a nonnegative random variable is needed. In this article, the Bayesian estimation and prediction for the GE distribution, using informative priors, have been considered. Importance sampling is used to estimate the parameters, as well as the reliability function, and the Gibbs and Metropolis samplers data sets are used to predict the behavior of further observations from the distribution. Two data sets are used to illustrate the Bayesian procedure.  相似文献
