Decision aids (DA) used in online shopping contexts have been shown to improve users' product choices. Given that previous research (e.g., Byrne & Griffitt, 1973 ) has demonstrated the positive effects of perceived similarity on an individual's evaluation of others, this study investigates the effects of users' perceived similarity with a DA on their evaluations of that DA. More specifically, we investigate the effect of users' perceptions of the similarity between their own decision process and that followed by the DA to arrive at a recommendation (decision process similarity), as well as the similarity between the recommendations made by the DA and users' initial choices (outcome similarity), on their evaluations of the DA's usefulness and trustworthiness. The results of this study show that perceived process similarity exerts positive and significant effects on users' perceptions of the DA's usefulness and trustworthiness. However, the effects of perceived outcome similarity on trust are completely mediated by perceived process similarity. It is also observed that the level of the user's domain knowledge moderates the effects of perceived decision process similarity on both perceived usefulness and trustworthiness. These results have implications for DA design. It is important that designers consider the process by which users make decisions for themselves and align the DA's decision process with those of the user's, especially for the novice user. The full mediation of the effect of outcome similarity on trust by process similarity highlights how a similar decision process can mitigate some of the negative effects of outcome dissimilarity. 相似文献

以我国电器制造企业间联盟为样本,考察了成员企业权力结构对联盟控制权不对称分布的影响.结果表明,成员企业的权力结构各因素显著影响着联盟控制权的不对称分布:内部联合权力水平会弱化这种不对称,而其冲突水平则会强化这一不对称;外部联合权力水平会显著强化这种不对称,内外部联合权力间的冲突水平也会强化这种不对称.同时,成员企业的权力结构相似性与联盟中控制权分布的不对称之间存在负相关关系,但这种关系并非线性关系,仅在成员权力结构具有高度相似性时,才会倾向于降低联盟控制权分布的不对称. 相似文献

LMX theorists have long argued that similarity between supervisors and subordinates will lead to the development of higher quality leader–member exchange (LMX) relationships. However, studies that have examined the impact of similarity on these relationships have found mixed results, suggesting the need for examining moderators. The purpose of the present study was to examine the impact of subordinates' political skill on the relationship between supervisor–subordinate racial similarity/dissimilarity (RSD) and the quality of LMX relationships. The sample consisted of 189 participants in a retail service organization. The results indicate that political skill is a significant moderator, and plays a substantial role in LMX relationship quality for racially dissimilar supervisor–subordinate dyads. The strengths and limitations of the study, and directions for future research are discussed. 相似文献

We used two variables, competing similarity and cooperating similarity, in developing a comprehensive model that forces a simultaneous treatment of partner characteristics and partner capabilities in global strategic alliances. An empirical test of this model on a sample of 70 global strategic alliances indicated mixed support for our hypotheses, and suggested that competing similarity has a negative effect and cooperating similarity has a positive effect on alliance outcomes. Findings also show that deliberate 'relational efforts' mitigate the frictional effects of differences in partner characteristics. 相似文献

One IB research stream on country distance supports that distance is influenced by the observers' perceptions, which reflect their unique experiences, as working abroad and cultural background. This study on distance perception is different but complements previous research, as we focus on certain systemic biases in perception that are inherent in fundamental human thinking processes when judging similarity. We build on cognitive psychology research, which shows these biases stem from mental shortcuts and heuristics, which people are prone to take in certain circumstances. We test our theory by conducting three experiments. First, we examine a different source of country distance asymmetry due to the fact that one of the countries in a pair is more salient. Second, we propose that context affects country similarity in that distance depends not only on the characteristics of the two countries being compared, but also other countries under consideration. Third, we challenge the notion that perceptions of country similarity and dissimilarity are exact opposites. We argue that ‘distance’ between two countries is a function of the number and salience of characteristics that two countries have in common, or similarity, and those features that are in one country but not in the other, or dissimilarity. 相似文献

The growing interest in the study of the future and the increasing number of organizations and commissions in this field, raises the question of how this area of study is to be distinguished from conventional planning. One may wonder about this question, since there would appear to be correspondence, or at least similarity, in that both are future-oriented and express thinking about the future. The thesis of this paper is that despite the similarity between planning and futures studies and their inter-relationship, it is possible and even desirable to distinguish between them, a distinction which has both analytical and practical significance.
