We propose a test to decide if a time series is represented by its linear interpolator better than by its mean value. The same test can be employed to decide if a time series has to be considered white noise. The test is based on a new estimate of the index of linear determinism (Battaglia, 1983, Inverse autocovariances and a measure of linear determinism for a stationary process, J. Time Series Anal. 4, 79-87) and its asymptotic distribution is derived. Comparison with the popular Ljung-Box portmanteau test has been performed based on both asymptotic power and a simulation experiment. The new test  相似文献

In this article, we introduce a bivariate sign test for the one-sample bivariate location model using a bivariate ranked set sample (BVRSS). We show that the proposed test is asymptotically more efficient than its counterpart sign test based on a bivariate simple random sample (BVSRS). The asymptotic null distribution and the non centrality parameter are derived. The asymptotic distribution of the vector of sample median as an estimator of the locations of the bivariate model is introduced. Theoretical and numerical comparisons of the asymptotic efficiency of the BVRSS sign test with respect to the BVSRS sign test are also given.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The sign test based on the k-tuple ranked set samples is discussed here. We first derive the distribution of the k-tuple ranked set sample sign test statistic, and then the asymptotic distribution is also obtained. We then compare its performance with its counterparts based on simple random sample and classical ranked set sample. The asymptotic relative efficiency and the power are then derived. Finally, the effect of imperfect ranking on the procedure is assessed.  相似文献

This paper deals with testing equality of variances of observations in the different treatment groups assuming treatment effects are fixed. We study the distribution of a test statistic which is known to perform comparably well with other statistics for the same purpose under normality. The statistic we consider is based on Shannon’s entropy for a distribution function. We will derive the asymptotic expansion for the distribution of the test statistic based on Shannon’s entropy under nonnormality and numerically examine its performance in comparison with the modified likelihood ratio criteria for normal and some nonnormal populations.   相似文献

In this paper, we are concerned with testing homogeneity against trend. Parsons (1979) considered the exact distribution of the test statistic based on the Wilcoxon type scores. We extend his result to the case of the general scores. Then we give a table of significance probabilities for the Fisher-Yates normal scores. We also study the asymptotic distribution of the test statis-tic based on the general scores under the null hypothesis, and the asymptotic relative efficiency against Bartholomew's likelihood ratio test assuming normality  相似文献

We examine the asymptotic distribution of, and give critical values for, a test related to Pearson's measure of skewness. The test detects the asymmetry of a continuous distribution about a specified median. Two sets of data are tested using our method.eabs:  相似文献

In this paper a measure of proximity of distributions, when moments are known, is proposed. Based on cases where the exact distribution is known, evidence is given that the proposed measure is accurate to evaluate the proximity of quantiles (exact vs. approximated). The measure may be applied to compare asymptotic and near-exact approximations to distributions, in situations where although being known the exact moments, the exact distribution is not known or the expression for its probability density function is not known or too complicated to handle. In this paper the measure is applied to compare newly proposed asymptotic and near-exact approximations to the distribution of the Wilks Lambda statistic when both groups of variables have an odd number of variables. This measure is also applied to the study of several cases of telescopic near-exact approximations to the exact distribution of the Wilks Lambda statistic based on mixtures of generalized near-integer gamma distributions.  相似文献

We provide a consistent specification test for generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedastic (GARCH (1,1)) models based on a test statistic of Cramér‐von Mises type. Because the limit distribution of the test statistic under the null hypothesis depends on unknown quantities in a complicated manner, we propose a model‐based (semiparametric) bootstrap method to approximate critical values of the test and to verify its asymptotic validity. Finally, we illuminate the finite sample behaviour of the test by some simulations.  相似文献

A nonparametric measure of interclass correlation is considered and its unbiased estimator and a test based on the estimator are studied. Hie measure is an analogue of the Kendall's measure of dependence. It is shown that the variance of the estimator is small and the information loss of the test based on the estimator is not serious relative to a standard parametric test in the sense of the Pitman asymptotic relative efficiency. Furthermore, the approximate variance of the estimator is given in the normal model.  相似文献

This paper considers a modified CUSUM test, suggested by Dufour (1982) for parameter instability and structural change with an unknown change point in a linear model with serially correlated disturbances, in which a preliminary estimate of the autoregressive coefficient for the error process is obtained, and used to transform the data. Then the standard CUSUM statistic is calculated on the transformed data. This paper derives the asymptotic distribution of the modified CUSUM test. We show that the modified CUSUM test retains its asymptotic significance level, i.e., the modified CUSUM test has the same asymptotic distribution as the CUSUM test with serially uncorrelated errors.  相似文献

We show that the Lagrange multiplier (LM) unit root test exhibits size distortions when a break in the innovation variance exists but is ignored. We develop a modified LM unit root test that is based on a generalized least-squares transformation of the original series. The asymptotic null distribution of the new modified LM unit root test is derived. Finite-sample simulation evidence shows that the modified LM unit root test maintains its size and has reasonable power against the trend stationary alternative.

We propose a nonparametric test for diagnosis of the proportionality assumption between hazard functions based on a functional equation. Because of involvement of censoring distribution, we consider the test procedure in an asymptotic manner and obtain the asymptotic normality for the proposed test statistic. Then we discuss the rationale of use of the functional equation for the initial effect model. Finally we compare our test with others using an example.  相似文献

Bivariate rank set sample (BVRSS) matched pair sign test is introduced and investigated for different ranking based schemes. We show that this test is asymptotically more efficient and more powerful than its counterpart sign test based on a bivariate simple random sample (BVSRS) for different ranking schemes. The asymptotic null distribution and the efficiency of the test are derived. Pitman’s asymptotic relative efficiency is used to compare the asymptotic performance of the matched pair sign test using BVRSS versus using BVSRS in all ranking cases. For small sample sizes, the bootstrap method is used to estimate P-values. Numerical comparisons are used to gain insight about the efficiency of the BVRSS sign test compared to the BVSRS sign test. Our numerical and theoretical results indicate that using any ranking scheme of BVRSS for the matched pair sign test is more efficient than using BVSRS.  相似文献

The Cochran-Armitage test is the most frequently used test for trend among binomial proportions. This test can be performed based on the asymptotic normality of its test statistic or based on an exact null distribution. As an alternative, a recently introduced modification of the Baumgartner-Weiß-Schindler statistic, a novel nonparametric statistic, can be used. Simulation results indicate that the exact test based on this modification is preferable to the Cochran-Armitage test. This exact test is less conservative and more powerful than the exact Cochran-Armitage test. The power comparison to the asymptotic Cochran-Armitage test does not show a clear winner, but the difference in power is usually small. The exact test based on the modification is recommended here because, in contrast to the asymptotic Cochran-Armitage test, it guarantees a type I error rate less than or equal to the significance level. Moreover, an exact test is often more appropriate than an asymptotic test because randomization rather than random sampling is the norm, for example in biomedical research. The methods are illustrated with an example data set.  相似文献

For testing the non-inferiority (or equivalence) of an experimental treatment to a standard treatment, the odds ratio (OR) of patient response rates has been recommended to measure the relative treatment efficacy. On the basis of an exact test procedure proposed elsewhere for a simple crossover design, we develop an exact sample-size calculation procedure with respect to the OR of patient response rates for a desired power of detecting non-inferiority at a given nominal type I error. We note that the sample size calculated for a desired power based on an asymptotic test procedure can be much smaller than that based on the exact test procedure under a given situation. We further discuss the advantage and disadvantage of sample-size calculation using the exact test and the asymptotic test procedures. We employ an example by studying two inhalation devices for asthmatics to illustrate the use of sample-size calculation procedure developed here.  相似文献

We propose an estimator of the concentration parameter of the Langevin distribution that is based on the spatial median. We derive its asymptotic distribution, compute its asymptotic efficiency, and show that it possesses some interesting stability properties under contamination.  相似文献

In this article, the problem of interest is testing the conditional heteroscedasticity of Poisson autoregressive model. We construct a non parametric test statistic based on empirical likelihood method. The asymptotic distribution of the proposed statistic is derived and its finite-sample property is examined through Monte Carlo simulations. The simulation results show that the proposed method is good for practical use.  相似文献

The main purpose of this paper is to introduce first a new family of empirical test statistics for testing a simple null hypothesis when the vector of parameters of interest is defined through a specific set of unbiased estimating functions. This family of test statistics is based on a distance between two probability vectors, with the first probability vector obtained by maximizing the empirical likelihood (EL) on the vector of parameters, and the second vector defined from the fixed vector of parameters under the simple null hypothesis. The distance considered for this purpose is the phi-divergence measure. The asymptotic distribution is then derived for this family of test statistics. The proposed methodology is illustrated through the well-known data of Newcomb's measurements on the passage time for light. A simulation study is carried out to compare its performance with that of the EL ratio test when confidence intervals are constructed based on the respective statistics for small sample sizes. The results suggest that the ‘empirical modified likelihood ratio test statistic’ provides a competitive alternative to the EL ratio test statistic, and is also more robust than the EL ratio test statistic in the presence of contamination in the data. Finally, we propose empirical phi-divergence test statistics for testing a composite null hypothesis and present some asymptotic as well as simulation results for evaluating the performance of these test procedures.  相似文献
