Recently in Dutt (1973, (1975), intgral representations over (0,A) were obtained for upper and lover multivariate normal and the probilities. It was pointed out that these integral representaitons when evaluated by Gauss-Hermite uadrature yield rapid and accurate numerical results.

Here integral representaitons, based on an integral formula due to Gurland (1948), are indicated for arbitrary multivariate probabilities. Application of this general representaion for computing multivariate x2 probabilities is discussed and numerical results using Gaussian quadrature are given for the bivariate and equicorre lated trivariate cases. Applications to the multivariate densities studied by Miller (1965) are also included  相似文献

Recently some work has been done in group sequential analysis for comparing two treatments with respect to the rate of change in a repeated measures design with staggered subject entries. We relax the involved assumption of linearity for the time-response curve and propose a group sequential procedure assuming multivariate normality with an ante-dependence structure for the repeated measurements obtained at protocol scheduled visits. The exit probabilities are determined through an a-spending function proposed by Lan and DeMets. A numerical example is given to illustrate the methodology.  相似文献

Approximation of a density by another density is considered in the case of different dimensionalities of the distributions. The results have been derived by inverting expansions of characteristic functions with the help of matrix techniques. The approximations obtained are all functions of cumulant differences and derivatives of the approximating density. The multivariate Edgeworth expansion follows from the results as a special case. Furthermore, the density functions of the trace and eigenvalues of the sample covariance matrix are approximated by the multivariate normal density and a numerical example is given  相似文献

Nonparametric tests are proposed for the equality of two unknown p-variate distributions. Empirical probability measures are defined from samples from the two distributions and used to construct test statistics as the supremum of the absolute differences between empirical probabilities, the supremum being taken over all possible events. The test statistics are truly multivariate in not requiring the artificial ranking of multivariate observations, and they are distribution-free in the general p-variate case. Asymptotic null distributions are obtained. Powers of the proposed tests and a competitor are examined by Monte Carlo techniques.  相似文献

Three approaches to multivariate estimation for categorical data using randomized response (RR) are described. In the first approach, practical only for 2×2 contingency tables, a multi-proportions design is used. In the second approach, a separate RR trial is used for each variate and it is noted that the multi­variate design matrix of conditional probabilities is given by the Kroneeker product of the univariate design matrices of each trial, provided that the trials are independent of each other in a certain sense. The third approach requires only a single randomization and thus may be viewed as the use of vector response. Finally, a special-purpose bivariate design is presented.  相似文献

We study the estimation of the strength of signals corresponding to the high valued observations in multivariate binary data. These problems can arise in a variety of areas, such as mass spectrometry or function magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), where the underlying signals could be interpreted as a proxy for biochemical or physiological response to a condition or treatment. More specifically, the problem we consider involves estimating the sum of a collection of binomial probabilities corresponding to large values of the associated binomial random variables. We emphasize the case where the dimension is much greater than the sample size, and most of the probabilities of the events of interest are close to zero. Two estimation approaches are proposed: conditional maximum likelihood and nonparametric empirical Bayes. We use these estimators to construct a test of homogeneity for two groups of high dimensional multivariate binary data. Simulation studies on the size and power of the proposed tests are given, and the tests are demonstrated using mass spectrometry data from a breast cancer study.  相似文献

A Bayesian test for the point null testing problem in the multivariate case is developed. A procedure to get the mixed distribution using the prior density is suggested. For comparisons between the Bayesian and classical approaches, lower bounds on posterior probabilities of the null hypothesis, over some reasonable classes of prior distributions, are computed and compared with the p-value of the classical test. With our procedure, a better approximation is obtained because the p-value is in the range of the Bayesian measures of evidence.  相似文献

In this paper, asymptotic normality is established for the parameters of the multivariate skew-normal distribution under two parametrizations. Also, an analytic expression and an asymptotic normal law are derived for the skewness vector of the skew-normal distribution. The estimates are derived using the method of moments. Convergence to the asymptotic distributions is examined both computationally and in a simulation experiment.  相似文献

In a clinical trial with a biased allocation rule whereby all and only those patients at risk are given the new treatment, Robbins and Zhang (1989) derived an asymptotically normal and efficient estimator of the mean difference between the new and old treatments on those at risk. Summary. The evaluation of the cumulative distribution function of a multivariate normal distribution is considered. The multivariate normal distribution can have any positive definite correlation matrix and any mean vector. The approach taken has two stages. In the first stage, it is shown how non-centred orthoscheme probabilities can be evaluated by using a recursive integration method. In the second stage, some ideas of Schläfli and Abrahamson are extended to show that any non-centred orthant probability can be expressed as differences between at most ( m −1)! non-centred orthoscheme probabilities. This approach allows an accurate evaluation of many multivariate normal probabilities which have important applications in statistical practice.  相似文献

The problem of simple linear calibration is not new and dates back to the late 1930's. In 1982 Brown presented a number of important results for the multivariate case. In this paper we extend Brown's work to cover the situation where one is interested in calibrating for an unknown q-vector X on the basis of an observed p-vector Y given that k≥l components of X are fixed in advance.

An outline of the theoretical development in the multivariate normal case will be given and the procedure illustrated with the application to previously published data.  相似文献

We examined the impact of different methods for replacing missing data in discriminant analyses conducted on randomly generated samples from multivariate normal and non-normal distributions. The probabilities of correct classification were obtained for these discriminant analyses before and after randomly deleting data as well as after deleted data were replaced using: (1) variable means, (2) principal component projections, and (3) the EM algorithm. Populations compared were: (1) multivariate normal with covariance matrices ∑1=∑2, (2) multivariate normal with ∑1≠∑2 and (3) multivariate non-normal with ∑1=∑2. Differences in the probabilities of correct classification were most evident for populations with small Mahalanobis distances or high proportions of missing data. The three replacement methods performed similarly but all were better than non - replacement.  相似文献

The bivariate plane is symmetrically partitioned into fine rectangular regions, and a symmetric uniform association model is used to represent the resulting discretized bivariate normal probabilities. A new algorithm is developed by utilizing a quadrature and the above association model to approximate the diagonal probabilities. The off-diagonal probabilities are then approximated using the model. This method is an alternative to Wang's (1987) approach, computationally advantageous and relatively easy to extend to higher dimensions. Bivariate and trivariate normal probabilities approximated by our method are observed to agree very closely with the corresponding known results.  相似文献

An empirical test is presented as a tool for assessing whether a specified multivariate probability model is suitable to describe the underlying distribution of a set of observations. This test is based on the premise that, given any probability distribution, the Mahalanobis distances corresponding to data generated from that distribution will likewise follow a distinct distribution that can be estimated well by means of a large sample. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the test for detecting departures from several multivariate distributions. We then apply the test to a real multivariate data set to confirm that it is consistent with a multivariate beta model.  相似文献

This paper addresses the problem of testing the multivariate linear hypothesis when the errors follow an antedependence model (Gabriel, 1961, 1962). Antedependence can be formulated as a nonstationary autoregressive model of general order. Three test statistics are derived that provide analogs to three commonly used MANOVA statistics: Wilks' Lambda, the Lawley-Hotelling Trace, and Pillai's Trace. Formulas are given for each of these statistics that show how they can be obtained From any statistical computing package that calculates the usual MANOVA statistics. These antedependent statistics would be appropriate in analyzing certain multivariate data sets in which repeated measurements are taken on the same subjects over a period of time.  相似文献

Quasi-optimal procedures of testing many hypotheses are described in this paper. They significantly simplify the Bayesian algorithms of hypothesis testing and computation of the risk function. The relations allowing for obtaining the estimations for the values of average risks in optimum tasks are given. The obtained general solutions are reduced to concrete formulae for a multivariate normal distribution of probabilities. The methods of approximate computation of the risk functions in Bayesian tasks of testing many hypotheses are offered. The properties and interrelations of the developed methods and algorithms are investigated. On the basis of a simulation, the validity of the obtained results and conclusions drawn is presented.  相似文献
