Suppose a prior is specified only on the interest parameter and a posterior distribution, free from nuisance parameters, is considered on the basis of the profile likelihood or an adjusted version thereof. In this setup, we derive higher order asymptotic results on the construction of confidence intervals that have approximately correct posterior as well as frequentist coverage. Apart from meeting both Bayesian and frequentist objectives under prior specification on the interest parameter alone, these results allow a comparison with their counterpart arising when the nuisance parameters are known, and hence provide additional justification for the Cox and Reid adjustment from a Bayesian-cum-frequentist perspective, with regard to neutralization of unknown nuisance parameters.  相似文献

We develop new Bayesian regression tests for prespecified regression coefficients. Simple, closed forms of the Bayes factors are derived that depend only on the regression t-statistic and F-statistic and the usual associated t and F distributions. The priors that allow those forms are simple and also meaningful, requiring minimal but practically important subjective inputs.  相似文献

This paper addresses the investment decisions considering the presence of financial constraints of 373 large Brazilian firms from 1997 to 2004, using panel data. A Bayesian econometric model was used considering ridge regression for multicollinearity problems among the variables in the model. Prior distributions are assumed for the parameters, classifying the model into random or fixed effects. We used a Bayesian approach to estimate the parameters, considering normal and Student t distributions for the error and assumed that the initial values for the lagged dependent variable are not fixed, but generated by a random process. The recursive predictive density criterion was used for model comparisons. Twenty models were tested and the results indicated that multicollinearity does influence the value of the estimated parameters. Controlling for capital intensity, financial constraints are found to be more important for capital-intensive firms, probably due to their lower profitability indexes, higher fixed costs and higher degree of property diversification.  相似文献

In this paper we provide a Bayesian interpretation of the conditional value at risk, CV@R, or super-quantile regression recently developed by Rockafellar et al. [Super-quantile regression with applications to buffered reliability, uncertainty quantification, and conditional value-at-risk, Eur. J. Oper. Res. 234 (2014), pp. 140–154]. Computations are based on particle filtering using a special posterior distribution consistent with the super-quantile concept. An empirical application to data used by RRM as well to another data set on energy prices confirms their results and shows the applicability of the new techniques.  相似文献

Since the pioneering work by Koenker and Bassett [27], quantile regression models and its applications have become increasingly popular and important for research in many areas. In this paper, a random effects ordinal quantile regression model is proposed for analysis of longitudinal data with ordinal outcome of interest. An efficient Gibbs sampling algorithm was derived for fitting the model to the data based on a location-scale mixture representation of the skewed double-exponential distribution. The proposed approach is illustrated using simulated data and a real data example. This is the first work to discuss quantile regression for analysis of longitudinal data with ordinal outcome.  相似文献

Frequentist and Bayesian methods differ in many aspects but share some basic optimal properties. In real-life prediction problems, situations exist in which a model based on one of the above paradigms is preferable depending on some subjective criteria. Nonparametric classification and regression techniques, such as decision trees and neural networks, have both frequentist (classification and regression trees (CARTs) and artificial neural networks) as well as Bayesian counterparts (Bayesian CART and Bayesian neural networks) to learning from data. In this paper, we present two hybrid models combining the Bayesian and frequentist versions of CART and neural networks, which we call the Bayesian neural tree (BNT) models. BNT models can simultaneously perform feature selection and prediction, are highly flexible, and generalise well in settings with limited training observations. We study the statistical consistency of the proposed approaches and derive the optimal value of a vital model parameter. The excellent performance of the newly proposed BNT models is shown using simulation studies. We also provide some illustrative examples using a wide variety of standard regression datasets from a public available machine learning repository to show the superiority of the proposed models in comparison to popularly used Bayesian CART and Bayesian neural network models.  相似文献

We discuss Bayesian analyses of traditional normal-mixture models for classification and discrimination. The development involves application of an iterative resampling approach to Monte Carlo inference, commonly called Gibbs sampling, and demonstrates routine application. We stress the benefits of exact analyses over traditional classification and discrimination techniques, including the ease with which such analyses may be performed in a quite general setting, with possibly several normal-mixture components having different covariance matrices, the computation of exact posterior classification probabilities for observed data and for future cases to be classified, and posterior distributions for these probabilities that allow for assessment of second-level uncertainties in classification.  相似文献

Shookri and Consul (1989) and Scollnik (1995) have previously considered the Bayesian analysis of an overdispersed generalized Poisson model. Scollnik (1995) also considered the Bayesian analysis of an ordinary Poisson and over-dispersed generalized Poisson mixture model. In this paper, we discuss the Bayesian analysis of these models when they are utilised in a regression context. Markov chain Monte Carlo methods are utilised, and an illustrative analysis is provided.  相似文献

This paper presents a method for Bayesian inference for the regression parameters in a linear model with independent and identically distributed errors that does not require the specification of a parametric family of densities for the error distribution. This method first selects a nonparametric kernel density estimate of the error distribution which is unimodal and based on the least-squares residuals. Once the error distribution is selected, the Metropolis algorithm is used to obtain the marginal posterior distribution of the regression parameters. The methodology is illustrated with data sets, and its performance relative to standard Bayesian techniques is evaluated using simulation results.  相似文献

为了尝试使用贝叶斯方法研究比例数据的分位数回归统计推断问题,首先基于Tobit模型给出了分位数回归建模方法,然后通过选取合适的先验分布得到了贝叶斯层次模型,进而给出了各参数的后验分布并用于Gibbs抽样。数值模拟分析验证了所提出的贝叶斯推断方法对于比例数据分析的有效性。最后,将贝叶斯方法应用于美国加州海洛因吸毒数据,在不同的分位数水平下揭示了吸毒频率的影响因素。  相似文献

The Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method generates samples from the posterior distribution and uses these samples to approximate expectations of quantities of interest. For the process, researchers have to decide whether the Markov chain has reached the desired posterior distribution. Using convergence diagnostic tests are very important to decide whether the Markov chain has reached the target distribution. Our interest in this study was to compare the performances of convergence diagnostic tests for all parameters of Bayesian Cox regression model with different number of iterations by using a simulation and a real lung cancer dataset.  相似文献

RECPAM is a methodology, implemented in a computer program of the same name, for the construction of tree-structured models in Biostatistics. In this work we present algorithms for pruning and amalgamating terminal nodes of a tree, within the RECPAM approach. These algorithms construct sequences of nested models and calculate at each step the AIC of the corresponding model and correct significance levels, according to Gabriel's theory of Simultaneous Test Procedures. As an example, the analysis of data from clinical trials involving patients with Small Cell Carcinoma of the Lung is presented.  相似文献

In Bayesian analysis, people usually report the highest posterior density (HPD) credible interval as an interval estimate of an unknown parameter. However, when the unknown parameter is the nonnegative normal mean, the Bayesian HPD credible interval under the uniform prior has quite a low minimum frequentist coverage probability. To enhance the minimum frequentist coverage probability of a credible interval, I propose a new method of reporting the Bayesian credible interval. Numerical results show that the new reported credible interval has a much higher minimum frequentist coverage probability than the HPD credible interval.  相似文献

This paper develops a new Bayesian approach to change-point modeling that allows the number of change-points in the observed autocorrelated times series to be unknown. The model we develop assumes that the number of change-points have a truncated Poisson distribution. A genetic algorithm is used to estimate a change-point model, which allows for structural changes with autocorrelated errors. We focus considerable attention on the construction of autocorrelated structure for each regime and for the parameters that characterize each regime. Our techniques are found to work well in the simulation with a few change-points. An empirical analysis is provided involving the annual flow of the Nile River and the monthly total energy production in South Korea to lead good estimates for structural change-points.  相似文献

This paper considers quantile regression models using an asymmetric Laplace distribution from a Bayesian point of view. We develop a simple and efficient Gibbs sampling algorithm for fitting the quantile regression model based on a location-scale mixture representation of the asymmetric Laplace distribution. It is shown that the resulting Gibbs sampler can be accomplished by sampling from either normal or generalized inverse Gaussian distribution. We also discuss some possible extensions of our approach, including the incorporation of a scale parameter, the use of double exponential prior, and a Bayesian analysis of Tobit quantile regression. The proposed methods are illustrated by both simulated and real data.  相似文献

The paper proposes a Bayesian quantile regression method for hierarchical linear models. Existing approaches of hierarchical linear quantile regression models are scarce and most of them were not from the perspective of Bayesian thoughts, which is important for hierarchical models. In this paper, based on Bayesian theories and Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods, we introduce Asymmetric Laplace distributed errors to simulate joint posterior distributions of population parameters and across-unit parameters and then derive their posterior quantile inferences. We run a simulation as the proposed method to examine the effects on parameters induced by units and quantile levels; the method is also applied to study the relationship between Chinese rural residents' family annual income and their cultivated areas. Both the simulation and real data analysis indicate that the method is effective and accurate.  相似文献

Many study designs yield a variety of outcomes from each subject clustered within an experimental unit. When these outcomes are of mixed data types, it is challenging to jointly model the effects of covariates on the responses using traditional methods. In this paper, we develop a Bayesian approach for a joint regression model of the different outcome variables and show that the fully conditional posterior distributions obtained under the model assumptions allow for estimation of posterior distributions using Gibbs sampling algorithm.  相似文献

Measurement error is a commonly addressed problem in psychometrics and the behavioral sciences, particularly where gold standard data either does not exist or are too expensive. The Bayesian approach can be utilized to adjust for the bias that results from measurement error in tests. Bayesian methods offer other practical advantages for the analysis of epidemiological data including the possibility of incorporating relevant prior scientific information and the ability to make inferences that do not rely on large sample assumptions. In this paper we consider a logistic regression model where both the response and a binary covariate are subject to misclassification. We assume both a continuous measure and a binary diagnostic test are available for the response variable but no gold standard test is assumed available. We consider a fully Bayesian analysis that affords such adjustments, accounting for the sources of error and correcting estimates of the regression parameters. Based on the results from our example and simulations, the models that account for misclassification produce more statistically significant results, than the models that ignore misclassification. A real data example on math disorders is considered.  相似文献
