Se considèrant morts d'un point de vue social tout en étant vivants, ils se représentent la discontinuation de leurs actes inachevés, les rôles sociaux qu'ils cessent de jouer et le caractère incomplet de leurs réalisations. Ceux qui vont mourir, comme ceux qu'ils laissent, voient le terme mis à un certain nombre de rôles et ils recherchent tous deux un débouché institutionnel pour leur émotion et la reconnaissance de ce qu'ils ont accompli pendant leur vie.  相似文献

Objective: Since no Lithuanian instrument focuses specifically on the measurement of pathological gambling in adolescence, we aimed to adapt commonly used international instruments (SOGS-RA, DSM-IV-MR-J) and assess their psychometric properties. Methods: Cross-cultural adaptation of DSM-IV-MR-J and SOGS-RA was performed in several steps including translations, synthesis of translations, back-translations, expert committee review, and pre-testing. Adapted instruments were administered to randomly selected adolescents in grades V through XII from all schools in the second largest Lithuanian city (Kaunas). Results: The DSM-IV-MR-J identified 4.2% of the representative sample as pathological gamblers, whereas the SOGS-RA generated prevalence of 5.2%. Cronbach’s alpha for DSM-IV-MR-J in this sample was 0.80 and 0.75 for the SOGS-RA. The correlation coefficient between the SOGS-RA and the DSM-IV-MR-J was statistically significant (Pearson correlation = 0.892, P < 0.001). Using the DSM-IV-MR-J as the baseline for pathological gambling in adolescence, the overall classification accuracy of the SOGS-RA was judged to be adequate, correctly identifying 34 out of 35 pathological gamblers (Kappa = 0.833, P < 0.001). Conclusions: The Lithuanian versions of DSM-IV-MR-J and SOGS-RA exhibited acceptable validity and reliability. The DSM-IV-MR-J was found to be a more conservative measure of pathological gambling.  相似文献

The Analysis of Verbal Behavior (TAVB) has been published since 1982, and during this time, interest in verbal behavior research appears to have increased substantially within behavior analysis. The purpose of the present analysis was to assess the influence of TAVB on the field by (a) counting citations of TAVB articles in the Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior (JEAB) and the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis (JABA) from 1983 through 2007, (b) examining which other journals cite TAVB, and (c) calculating impact-factor estimates for 2003 through 2007. Citations of TAVB articles began to appear in JEAB and JABA in the late 1980s to early 1990s, and by the end of 2007, almost a third of all articles published in TAVB had been cited in either JEAB or JABA. Other journals that cite TAVB include The Behavior Analyst and The Psychological Record. The estimated impact factor ranged from 0.267 to 0.600. Strategies for increasing the impact of TAVB are discussed.  相似文献

An Examination of Factors Affecting Perception of Workplace Discrimination   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
This study investigates perceptions of workplace discrimination among racial minorities in Canada. Specifically, the study examines how objective experiences of disadvantage and expectations for equity influence racial minorities’ perceptions of discrimination. The results indicate that while both of these factors affect perceptions of discrimination, expectations for equity may be especially important. Although new immigrants are among the most disadvantaged groups in the Canadian labor market, they are less likely to perceive discrimination than longer term immigrants, who may have higher expectations for equitable treatment. Education also increases the perception of discrimination among immigrants, perhaps due to the higher expectations of educated immigrants. Lastly, objective income inequity is not found to be related to perceived discrimination.

Un sondage parmi les élèves de 4e et de 9e des écoles de Sudbury montre que la politique de bilinguisme des gouvernements du Canada et de l'Ontario a donné confiance aux Franco-Ontariens quant à l'avenir de leur langue au pays: des parents qui, dix ans plus tôt, auraient envoye leurs enfants dans des écoles anglaises, les envoient aujourd'hui dans des écoles françaises; le français se parle d'avantage à la maison. L'anglais cependant continue à prévaloir, mais son rôle se modifie. Pour les uns, il devient l'une des deux langues officielles; pour tous, il demeure la lingua franca. Les gens de troisième langue ont de nouveaux espoirs pour la survie de leurs cultures. L'idée du creuset recule. A survey of grades 4 and 9 school children in Sudbury shows that the bilingual policy of the governments of Canada and Ontario has inspired optimism among French-Ontarians concerning the future of their language in this country. Parents, who ten years ago would have sent their children to English schools, now send them to French schools; French is spoken more often in the home. English remains predominant, but its role is changing. For some, it remains one of the two official languages; for everyone, it remains the lingua franca. Third language people have new hopes for the maintenance of their cultures. The idea of a melting pot is fading away.  相似文献

The current crisis of neoliberalism is calling into question the relevance of key international institutions. We analyze the origins, nature, and possible impacts of the crisis through comparing two such institutions: the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Trade Organization (WTO). Both originated in the post-World War II U.S.-led hegemonic order and were transformed as part of the transition to global neoliberalism. We show that while the IMF and the WTO have been part of the same hegemonic project, their distinct institutional features have put them on significantly different trajectories. Historical differences in the two institutions’ systems of rules have placed the IMF in a more vulnerable position than the WTO, which provides clues to the future contours of global economic governance.

We present a general framework to study the project selection problem in an organization of fallible decision-makers. We show that when the organizational size and the majority rule for project acceptance are optimized simultaneously, the optimal quality of decision-making, as determined by the decision criterion, is invariant, and depends only on the expertise of decision-makers. This result clarifies that the circumstances under which the decision-making quality varies with the organizational structure are situations where the organizational size or majority rule is restricted from reaching the optimal level. Moreover, in contrast to earlier findings in the literature that the hierarchy and the polyarchy are generally sub-optimal structures, we show that when the size, structure and decision criterion are simultaneously optimized, the hierarchy and the polyarchy are in fact the only possible optimal organizational structures when decision-making costs are present.

Introduction: To evaluate the effect of ageing on the efficacy of transurethral vaporization resection of the prostate (TUVRP). Methods: The clinical outcomes of 285 patients treated by TUVRP were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were divided into three groups by age, Group A with 91 patients less than ≤70 years of age, Group B with 127 patients from 71 to 79 years of age, and Group C with 67 patients greater than ≥80 years of age. Results: Prostate volume was 53.1?±?24.1?ml in Group A, 67.8?±?39.7?ml in Group B and 60.0?±?43.9?ml in Group C (p < 0.001). More co-existent systemic diseases were identified in Group C than in the other two groups (p < 0.001). American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) grade increased with age (p < 0.001). Urological comorbidities associated with BPH, operating time, IPSS score, and QOL index were not different among the three groups. A significant difference was observed in before and after surgery IPSS score, QOL index, and maximum urinary flow rate (Qmax), in all three groups (p < 0.05). Post-operative Qmax decreased with age (p < 0.05). Conclusion: TUVRP was safe and effective for the patients greater than 80 years of age, similarly to younger patients. Advanced aged was not a contraindication for surgery, and did not increase the difficulty of the procedure.  相似文献

Gender role attitudes and their influence on perceptions of male and female work performance are important aspects understanding workplace gender inequality. Reskin (2000 Reskin , B. 2000 . “Proximate Causes of Employment Discrimination.” Contemporary Sociology 29 ( 2 ): 319328 .[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) suggests researchers must look to non-conscious causes in order to understand and alleviate gender inequality in the workplace. Also critical to understanding workplace gender inequality is the differential importance placed on being paid fairly. Using a survey sample of 525 traditional undergraduate students from a public university in the middle south of the United States consisting of approximately one-third African Americans and two-thirds whites, race and sex differences are examined. The more liberal the respondent in terms of gender roles, the less they perceived performance inferiority of females. Excluding white males, those more liberal on gender roles perceived fair pay as more important. Gender differences are stronger among whites. Implications for the gender inequities at work are discussed.  相似文献

The equilibrium E(σ(p)) is the set {xW:σ(p)(x) is empty}. A sufficient condition for existence of E(σ(p)) when p is convex is that a “dual”, or generalized gradient, dσ(p)(x), is non-empty at all x. Under certain conditions the dual “field”, dσ(p), admits a “social gradient field”Γ(p). Γ is called an “aggregator” on the domain P N if Γ is continuous for all p in P N . It is shown here that the “minmax” voting rule, σ, admits an aggregator when P N is the set of smooth, convex preference profiles (on a compact, convex topological vector space, W) and P N is endowed with a C 1-topology. An aggregator can also be constructed on a domain of smooth, non-convex preferences when W is the compact interval. The construction of an aggregator for a general political economy is also discussed. Some remarks are addressed to the relationship between these results and the Chichilnisky-Heal theorem on the non-existence of a preference aggregator when P N is not contractible. The role of voluntary and community sector organizations in the delivery of public services is increasing and these changes bring new responsibilities and benefits to organizations that have the capacity to participate. There are concerns within the sector about the implications for citizenship and participation. The sector is highly dependent on volunteers yet little is known about how organizational change in response to new relationships with the statutory sector impact upon the commitment and well-being of people who volunteer. This paper addresses that gap in knowledge for older volunteers. Drawing upon collaborative research with a voluntary organization in the north of England, the authors explore the meanings and aspirations of volunteering for older people, and explain how and why changes associated with closer engagement with public service delivery and less grant dependency can be disempowering for them.

Cet article évalue les effets de l'appartenance de la mère et du père à une classe - déterminée selon la théorie marxiste des classes -sur le niveau d'instruction de leurs enfants, garçons et filles, au Canada. Les données sont tirées d'un échantillon représentatif de Canadiens et de Canadiennes. Les analyses multivariables mon-trent que l'appartenance du père et de la mère à une classe influe sur le niveau d'instruction des enfants des deux sexes. Que le père ou la mère soit issu de la bourgeoisie, de la classe des dirigeants ou de la classe des spécialistes, l'enfant aura un niveau d'instruction plus élevé que celui dont les parents appartiennent à une autre classe. On a toutefois observé que seuls certains effets de l'appartenance à une classe étaient directs; les effets liés à l'appartenance à une classe semblent ne se manifester que partiellement dans les differences de niveau d'instruction des parents, qui sont liées à la classe à laquelle ils appartiennent. Les niveaux d'instruction de la mere et du père influent directement sur le niveau d'instruction des enfants des deux sexes, une fois neutralisés les effets de l'appartenance sociale des parents. De plus, les effets du niveau d'instruction du père et de la mère ont tendance à différer selon le sexe de l'enfant (le niveau d'études de la mère influe davantage sur celui de la fille et à l'inverse celui du père influe davantage sur celui du fils). Toutefois, cette tendance ne se vérifie pas en ce qui concerne les effets de l'appartenance des parents à une classe. Les analyses qui comparent les sous-échantillons d'âges indiquent que la double influence de l'appartenance des parents à une classe et de leur niveau d'instruction a diminué après les années soixante compara-tivement aux années précédentes. Les résultats sont interprétés à la lumière de la théorie du capital culturel. This paper assesses the effects of mothers' and fathers' class positions—measured in terms of Marxist class categories—on the educational attainment of male and female offspring in Canada. Our data are from a national representative sample of Canadians. Multivariate analyses show that, for offspring of both genders, the class positions of fathers and mothers influence educational attainment. Where either parent was a member of the bourgeois, managerial or expert class categories, this meant more education for the offspring than other class backgrounds. Only some proportions of the class effects were direct; the effects of class background appear to partially operate through differences in educational attainment of parents that are associated with parents' class positions. Mothers' and fathers' education levels continue to have comparatively strong positive relationships with educational attainment for offspring of both genders after controls for class categories of parents. Further, the effects of paternal and maternal education tend to be “same-sex directed” (mothers' education levels have stronger effects for daughters than for sons and vice versa for fathers' education). However, a similar pattern does not hold for the effects of parental class positions. Analyses comparing age sub-samples indicate that the influences of both parental class positions and parental education levels upon educational attainment of offspring have decreased in the post-1960 period compared with earlier years. The results are interpreted in terms of the theory of cultural capital.  相似文献

Many Black parents consider racial climate and academic quality when thinking and making decisions about their children's schooling experiences. However, few studies have directly asked Black parents about the role they believe race will play in their children's schooling, if any. The authors interviewed 76 Black mothers (Mage = 34; SDage = 6.67) of children entering first grade (Mage = 6.13; SDage = 0.36), asking what role they believed race would play in their children's schooling. The authors found that mothers considered the racial composition of the school and the perspectives and behaviors of teachers and the administration to be important factors when assessing the role of race in their children's education. Mothers were also particularly concerned about the discrimination their sons may face because of their position as Black boys. Given these contextual factors, mothers considered themselves to be protective agents through their involvement in their children's academic lives.  相似文献

A comprehensive framework for guiding analyses of internal migration is lacking. This study contributes to the family migration literature in three important ways. We develop a multilevel theoretical framework emphasizing an integration of individual-, family-, and neighborhood-level effects; introduce multilevel statistical modeling; and explicitly assess how effects of economic-based explanatory variables vary by gender. Our data are from the Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID). We find that the likelihood of a family migrating is affected by economic and non-economic factors, some of which vary by gender. We add to the dual-earner migration literature by finding that wives are not likely to be tied-movers, but husbands are likely to be tied-stayers. Neighborhood factors also are important to the decision to migrate.

By applying the non-parametric Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method, even with all the limitations where error could cause significant problems, this paper attempts to investigate the efficiency of 35 Microfinance institutions in the Mediterranean zone during the period of 2004–2005. The estimated results prove that eight institutions are relatively efficient, and have a notable level of average efficiency and a potential of evolution while being referent to their technical efficiency. The survey also reveals that the size of the MFIs has a negative effect on their efficiency since the MFIs of medium size are more efficient than the eminent.

This article is part of a long term project “Promoting the Occupational Well-Being of School Staff—Action Research Project in Finland and Estonia, 2009–2014.” The purpose of this article is to describe the significance of action plans in the promotion of the occupational well-being of primary and upper secondary school staff in Finland and Estonia from 2010 to the turn of the year 2011–2012. An electronic open questionnaire was sent to occupational well-being groups in Finland (N = 18) and in Estonia (N = 39). In Finland, the questionnaire was responded to by 16 (n = 16) occupational well-being groups, and in Estonia, by 38 (n = 38) groups. The qualitative data were analyzed using the inductive-deductive method and content analysis. The obtained results indicate that the schools had named goals for action plans in all aspects of the promotion of occupational well-being in schools (worker and work, working conditions, professional competence, working community) and that these goals were mainly realized in the schools in a systematic way. Schools felt that the action plan for occupational well-being helped them to set goals for occupational well-being and that the planned actions were realized in a more systematic way than before.  相似文献

L'examen des écrits, aussi bien classiques que contempo-rains, qui portent sur le concept de “la définition de la situation” rével?e que les théories sous-tendantes ne fournissent pas de réponses adéquates à deux questions: comment une personne en arrive-t-elle á définir une situation et quel est le rapport entre sa définition et son comportement? Dans l'espoir de répondre à ces questions, l'auteur énonce une théorie qui tient compte de la chronologie des phénomènes du moment où la personne se trouve dans une situation jusqu‘á celui où elle la définit et commence à agir de façon pertinente. On y souligne la nécessité de distinguer entre les vues objective et subjective d'une situation. Dans la perspective de 1'examen de laction en cours, l'auteur suggère un cadre qui per-mette de circonscrire les do-maines physique, temporel et social d'une situation par rapport à sa dimension subjective. L'auteur discute en-suite les contributions faites, dans la définition subjective d'une situation, par la per-sonnalité de l'acteur, la culture ambiante et les éléments objectifs de la situation. Une dernière section traite plus globalement de définitions de situations et en examine divers types.  相似文献
