Abstract

We introduce a new family of distributions using truncated discrete Linnik distribution. This family is a rich family of distributions which includes many important families of distributions such as Marshall–Olkin family of distributions, family of distributions generated through truncated negative binomial distribution, family of distributions generated through truncated discrete Mittag–Leffler distribution etc. Some properties of the new family of distributions are derived. A particular case of the family, a five parameter generalization of Weibull distribution, namely discrete Linnik Weibull distribution is given special attention. This distribution is a generalization of many distributions, such as extended exponentiated Weibull, exponentiated Weibull, Weibull truncated negative binomial, generalized exponential truncated negative binomial, Marshall-Olkin extended Weibull, Marshall–Olkin generalized exponential, exponential truncated negative binomial, Marshall–Olkin exponential and generalized exponential. The shape properties, moments, median, distribution of order statistics, stochastic ordering and stress–strength properties of the new generalized Weibull distribution are derived. The unknown parameters of the distribution are estimated using maximum likelihood method. The discrete Linnik Weibull distribution is fitted to a survival time data set and it is shown that the distribution is more appropriate than other competitive models.  相似文献

Abstract

Recently, a new class of measure of uncertainty, called “dynamic survival entropy”, has been defined and studied in the literature. Based on this entropy, DSE(α) ordering, IDSE(α), and DDSE(α) classes of life distributions are defined and some results are studied. In this paper, our main aim is to prove some more results of the ordering and the aging classes of life distributions mentioned above. Some important distributions such as exponential, Pareto, Pareto II, and finite range distributions are also characterized. Here we have defined cumulative past entropy and proved some interesting results.  相似文献

Abstract

Two families of test statistics for testing the null hypothesis of exponentiality against Harmonic New Better than Used in Expectation (HNBUE) alternatives are proposed. Asymptotic distributions of the test statistics are derived under the null and alternative hypotheses and the consistency of the tests established. Comparison with competing tests are made in terms of Pitman Asymptotic Relative Efficiency (PARE). Simulation studies have been carried out to assess the performance of the tests. Finally, the test has been applied to three real life data sets described in Proschan, Susarla and Van Ryzin and Engelhardt, Bain and Wright.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Distributions of the maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) in Type-II (progressive) hybrid censoring based on two-parameter exponential distributions have been obtained using a moment generating function approach. Although resulting in explicit expressions, the representations are complicated alternating sums. Using the spacings-based approach of Cramer and Balakrishnan [On some exact distributional results based on Type-I progressively hybrid censored data from exponential distributions. Statist Methodol. 2013;10:128–150], we derive simple expressions for the exact density and distribution functions of the MLEs in terms of B-spline functions. These representations can be easily implemented on a computer and provide an efficient method to compute density and distribution functions as well as moments of Type-II (progressively) hybrid censored order statistics.  相似文献

The sample entropy (Vasicek, 1976) has been most widely used as a nonparametric entropy estimator due to its simplicity, but its underlying distribution function has not been known yet though its moments are required in establishing the entropy-based goodness of test statistic (Soofi et al., 1995). In this paper we derive the nonparametric distribution function of the sample entropy as a piece-wise uniform distribution in the lights of Theil (1980) and Dudwicz and van der Meulen (1987). Then we establish the entropy-based goodness of fit test statistics based on the nonparametric distribution functions of the sample entropy and modified sample entropy (Ebrahimi et al., 1994), and compare their performances for the exponential and normal distributions.  相似文献

Abstract

The class of transmuted distributions has received a lot of attention in the recent statistical literature. In this paper, we propose a rich family of bivariate distribution whose conditionals are transmuted distributions. The new family of distributions depends on the two baseline distributions and three dependence parameters. Apart from the general properties, we also study the distribution of the concomitance of order statistics. We study specific bivariate models. Estimation methodologies are proposed. A simulation study is conducted. The usefulness of this family is established by fitting well analyzed real life time data.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The binomial exponential 2 (BE2) distribution was proposed by Bakouch et al. as a distribution of a random sum of independent exponential random variables, when the sample size has a zero truncated binomial distribution. In this article, we introduce a generalization of BE2 distribution which offers a more flexible model for lifetime data than the BE2 distribution. The hazard rate function of the proposed distribution can be decreasing, increasing, decreasing–increasing–decreasing and unimodal, so it turns out to be quite flexible for analyzing non-negative real life data. Some statistical properties and parameters estimation of the distribution are investigated. Three different algorithms are proposed for generating random data from the new distribution. Two real data applications regarding the strength data and Proschan's air-conditioner data are used to show that the new distribution is better than the BE2 distribution and some other well-known distributions in modeling lifetime data.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A new method is proposed for identifying clusters in continuous data indexed by time or by space. The scan statistic we introduce is derived from the well-known Mann–Whitney statistic. It is completely non parametric as it relies only on the ranks of the marks. This scan test seems to be very powerful against any clustering alternative. These results have applications in various fields, such as the study of climate data or socioeconomic data.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This paper considers a class of absolutely continuous bivariate exponential distributions whose univariate margins are the ordinary exponential distributions. We study different mathematical properties of the proposed model. The estimation of the parameters by maximum likelihood is discussed. Application is made to a real data example to illustrate the flexibility of theproposed distribution for data analysis.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This article studies a risk model involving one type of main claims and two types of by-claims, which is an extension of the general risk model with delayed claims. We suppose that every main claim may not induce any by-claims or may induce one by-claim belonging to one of the two types of by-claims with a certain probability. In addition, assume that the by-claim and its associated main claim may occur at the same time and that the occurrence of the by-claim may be delayed. An integro-differential equation system for survival probabilities is derived by using two auxiliary risk models. The expression of the survival probability is obtained by applying Laplace transforms and Rouché theorem. Furthermore, we provide a method for solving the survival probability when the two by-claim amounts satisfy different exponential distributions. As a special case, an explicit expression of survival probability is given when all the claim amounts obey the same exponential distribution. Finally, numerical results are provided to examine the proposed method.  相似文献

The generalized exponential distribution proposed by Gupta and Kundu [Gupta, R.D and Kundu, D., 1999, Generalized exponential distributions. Australian and New Zealand Journal of Statistics, 41(2), 173–188.] is an important lifetime distribution in survival analysis. In this paper, we consider the maximum likelihood estimation procedure of the parameters of the generalized exponential distribution when the data are left censored. We obtain the maximum likelihood estimators of the unknown para-meters and the Fisher information matrix. Simulation studies are carried out to observe the performance of the estimators in small sample.  相似文献

We consider a Bayesian analysis method of paired survival data using a bivariate exponential model proposed by Moran (1967, Biometrika 54:385–394). Important features of Moran’s model include that the marginal distributions are exponential and the range of the correlation coefficient is between 0 and 1. These contrast with the popular exponential model with gamma frailty. Despite these nice properties, statistical analysis with Moran’s model has been hampered by lack of a closed form likelihood function. In this paper, we introduce a latent variable to circumvent the difficulty in the Bayesian computation. We also consider a model checking procedure using the predictive Bayesian P-value.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we consider some problems of point estimation and point prediction when the competing risks data from a class of exponential distribution are progressive type-I interval censored. The maximum likelihood estimation and mid-point approximation method are proposed for the estimations of parameters. Also several point predictors of censored units such as the maximum likelihood predictor, the best unbiased predictor and the conditional median predictor are obtained. The methods discussed here are applied when the lifetime distributions of the latent failure times are independent and Weibull-distributed. Finally a simulation study is given by using Monte-Carlo simulations to compare the performances of the different methods and one data analysis has been presented for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

Sample size calculation is a critical issue in clinical trials because a small sample size leads to a biased inference and a large sample size increases the cost. With the development of advanced medical technology, some patients can be cured of certain chronic diseases, and the proportional hazards mixture cure model has been developed to handle survival data with potential cure information. Given the needs of survival trials with potential cure proportions, a corresponding sample size formula based on the log-rank test statistic for binary covariates has been proposed by Wang et al. [25]. However, a sample size formula based on continuous variables has not been developed. Herein, we presented sample size and power calculations for the mixture cure model with continuous variables based on the log-rank method and further modified it by Ewell's method. The proposed approaches were evaluated using simulation studies for synthetic data from exponential and Weibull distributions. A program for calculating necessary sample size for continuous covariates in a mixture cure model was implemented in R.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we present new one-stage multiple comparison procedures with the average for location parameters of two-parameter exponential distributions under heteroscedasticity by modifying the existing one proposed by Wu [One stage multiple comparisons with the average for exponential location parameters under heteroscedasticity. Comput Stat Data Anal. 2013;68:352–360] with unequal sample sizes. A simulation study is done and the results show that the proposed procedures have shorter confidence length with coverage probabilities closer to the nominal ones. At last, an example of comparing the survival days of patients for four categories of lung cancer is given to demonstrate the proposed procedures.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This paper introduces a generalization of the negative binomial (NB) distribution in analogy with the COM-Poisson distribution. Many well-known distributions are particular and limiting distributions. The proposed distribution belongs to the modified power series, generalized hypergeometric and exponential families, and also arises as weighted NB and COM-Poisson distributions. Probability and moment recurrence formulae, and probabilistic and reliability properties have been derived. With the flexibility to model under-, equi- and over-dispersion, and its various interesting properties, this NB generalization will be a useful model for count data. An application to empirical modeling is illustrated with a real data set.  相似文献

Abstract

In this paper we consider testing that an economic time series follows a martingale difference process. The martingale difference hypothesis has typically been tested using information contained in the second moments of a process, that is, using test statistics based on the sample autocovariances or periodograms. Tests based on these statistics are inconsistent since they cannot detect nonlinear alternatives. In this paper we consider tests that detect linear and nonlinear alternatives. Given that the asymptotic distributions of the considered tests statistics depend on the data generating process, we propose to implement the tests using a modified wild bootstrap procedure. The paper theoretically justifies the proposed tests and examines their finite sample behavior by means of Monte Carlo experiments.  相似文献

In this article we derive third-order asymptotic expansions for the non null distribution functions of four classic statistics under a sequence of local alternatives in one-parameter exponential family models. Our results are quite general and cover a wide range of important distributions.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This article presents goodness-of-fit tests for two and three-parameter gamma distributions that are based on minimum quadratic forms of standardized logarithmic differences of values of the moment generating function and its empirical counterpart. The test statistics can be computed without reliance to special functions and have asymptotic chi-squared distributions. Monte Carlo simulations are used to compare the proposed test for the two-parameter gamma distribution with goodness-of-fit tests employing empirical distribution function or spacing statistics. Two data sets are used to illustrate the various tests.  相似文献

We derive the best linear unbiased interpolation for the missing order statistics of a random sample using the well-known projection theorem. The proposed interpolation method only needs the first two moments on both sides of a missing order statistic. A simulation study is performed to compare the proposed method with a few interpolation methods for exponential and Lévy distributions.  相似文献
