ABSTRACT

Coefficient of tail dependence measures the strength of dependence in the tail of a bivariate distribution and it has been found useful in the risk management. In this paper, we derive the upper tail dependence coefficient for a random vector following the skew Laplace distribution and the skew Cauchy distribution, respectively. The result shows that skew Laplace distribution is asymptotically independent in upper tail, however, skew Cauchy distribution has asymptotic upper tail dependence.  相似文献

The classical bivariate F distribution arises from ratios of chi-squared random variables with common denominators. A consequent disadvantage is that its univariate F marginal distributions have one degree of freedom parameter in common. In this paper, we add a further independent chi-squared random variable to the denominator of one of the ratios and explore the extended bivariate F distribution, with marginals on arbitrary degrees of freedom, that results. Transformations linking F, beta and skew t distributions are then applied componentwise to produce bivariate beta and skew t distributions which also afford marginal (beta and skew t) distributions with arbitrary parameter values. We explore a variety of properties of these distributions and give an example of a potential application of the bivariate beta distribution in Bayesian analysis.  相似文献

Assuming that the random vectors X 1 and X 2 have independent bivariate Poisson distributions, the conditional distribution of X 1 given X 1?+?X 2?=?n is obtained. The conditional distribution turns out to be a finite mixture of distributions involving univariate binomial distributions and the mixing proportions are based on a bivariate Poisson (BVP) distribution. The result is used to establish two properties of a bivariate Poisson stochastic process which are the bivariate extensions of the properties for a Poisson process given by Karlin, S. and Taylor, H. Motivated by Caginalp and Caginalp [Physica A—Statistical Mechanics and Its Applications, 499, 2018, 457–471], we derive the exact distribution of X/Y conditioned on X?>?0, Y?>?0 for more than ten classes of distributions, including the bivariate t, bivariate Cauchy, bivariate Lomax, Arnold and Strauss’ bivariate exponential, Balakrishna and Shiji’s bivariate exponential, Mohsin et al.’s bivariate exponential, Morgenstern type bivariate exponential, bivariate gamma exponential and bivariate alpha skew normal distributions. In this paper the efficiency property of the estimators of the parameters of the bivariate Pearson type VII distribution is studied inside the family of linear estimators, assuming that the sample is constituted by dependent random vectors. It is proven that, although there are not efficient linear estimators, the sample mean and the sample covariance matrix (affected by an unbiasedness weighting) are unbiased linear estimators of minimum distance to the Cramér-Rao lower bound. Finally, a numerical simulation example shows that the proposed estimators are computationally feasible.  相似文献

It is well known that many data, such as the financial or demographic data, exhibit asymmetric distributions. In recent years, researchers have concentrated their efforts to model this asymmetry. Skew normal model is one of such models that are skew and yet possess many properties of the normal model. In this paper, a new multivariate skew model is proposed, along with its statistical properties. It includes the multivariate normal distribution and multivariate skew normal distribution as special cases. The quadratic form of this random vector follows a χ2 distribution. The roles of the parameters in the model are investigated using contour plots of bivariate densities.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Elsewhere, I have promoted (univariate continuous) “transformation of scale” (ToS) distributions having densities of the form 2g?1(x)) where g is a symmetric distribution and Π is a transformation function with a special property. Here, I develop bivariate (readily multivariate) ToS distributions. Univariate ToS distributions have a transformation of random variable relationship with Azzalini-type skew-symmetric distributions; the bivariate ToS distribution here arises from marginal variable transformation of a particular form of bivariate skew-symmetric distribution. Examples are given, as are basic properties—unimodality, a covariance property, random variate generation—and connections with a bivariate inverse Gaussian distribution are pointed out.  相似文献

Conventionally, it was shown that the underlying distribution is normal if and only if the sample mean and sample variance from a random sample are independent. This paper focusses on the normal population characterization theorem by showing that, if the joint distribution of a skew normal sample follows certain multivariate skew normal distribution, the sample mean and sample variance are still independent.  相似文献

Abstract

In this paper, we investigate the almost sure convergence for partial sums of asymptotically negatively associated (ANA, for short) random vectors in Hilbert spaces. The Khintchine-Kolmogorov type convergence theorem, three series theorem and the Kolmogorov type strong law of large numbers for partial sums of ANA random vectors in Hilbert spaces are obtained. The results obtained in the paper generalize some corresponding ones for independent random vectors and negatively associated random vectors in Hilbert spaces.  相似文献

Abstract. The entropy and mutual information index are important concepts developed by Shannon in the context of information theory. They have been widely studied in the case of the multivariate normal distribution. We first extend these tools to the full symmetric class of multivariate elliptical distributions and then to the more flexible families of multivariate skew‐elliptical distributions. We study in detail the cases of the multivariate skew‐normal and skew‐t distributions. We implement our findings to the application of the optimal design of an ozone monitoring station network in Santiago de Chile.  相似文献

Abstract

The classical Pitman–Morgan test is known to be optimal for testing equality of the variances of components of a bivariate normal vector. We first show that it is also optimal for a generalized model involving the matrix spherical distribution. Then we discuss and demonstrate, both analytically and empirically, that it is nonrobust, i.e., its type I error control is inexact both asymptotically and in moderate size bivariate random samples.  相似文献

A bivariate distribution, whose marginal distributions are truncated Poisson distributions, is developed as a product of truncated Poisson distributions and a multiplicative factor. The multiplicative factor takes into account the correlation, either positive or negative, between the two random variables. Suppose that an order restriction is imposed among several p-variate normal mean vectors. We are interested in the problems of estimating these mean vectors and testing their homogeneity under this restriction. These problems are multivariate extensions of Bartholomew's (1959) ones. For the bivariate case, these problems have been studied by Sasabuchi et al. (1983) and (1998) and some others. In the present paper we examine the convergence of an iterative algorithm for computing the maximum likelihood estimator when p is larger than two. This paper develops almost sure convergence for sums of negatively superadditive dependent random vectors in Hilbert spaces, we obtain Chung type SLLN and the Jaite type SLLN for sequences of negatively superadditive dependent random vectors in Hilbert spaces. Rate of convergence is studied through considering almost sure convergence to 0 of tail series. Assuming that (X1, X2) has a bivariate elliptical distribution, we obtain an exact expression for the joint probability density function (pdf) as well as the corresponding conditional pdfs of X1 and X(2) ? max?{X1, X2}. The problem is motivated by an application in financial markets. Exchangeable random variables are discussed in more detail. Two special cases of the elliptical distributions that is the normal and the student’s t models are investigated. For illustrative purposes, a real data set on the total personal income in California and New York is analyzed using the results obtained.
