The bivariate probability distribution of the random variables [number of inversions] and [number of outstanding variables] in a sequence of n i.i.d. random variables is derived. As an application, the null covariance between the test statistics proposed by Mann and Brunk, respectively, for the ‘trend in location’ problem is obtained. It is shown that these test statistics are asymptotically uncorrelated under the null hypothesis.  相似文献

Rényi statistics are considered in a directed family of general exponential models. These statistics are defined as Rényi distances between estimated and hypothetical model. An asymptotically quadratic approximation to the Rényi statistics is established, leading to similar asymptotic distribution results as established in the literature for the likelihood ratio statistics. Some arguments in favour of the Rényi statistics are discussed, and a numerical comparison of the Rényi goodness-of-fit tests with the likelihood ratio test is presented.  相似文献

The two-sample problem for comparing Weibull scale parameters is studied for randomly censored data. Three different test statistics are considered and their asymptotic properties are established under a sequence of local alternatives, It is shown that both the test statistic based on the mlefs (maximum likelihood estimators) and the likelihood ratio test are asymptotically optimum. The third statistic based only on the number of failures is not, Asymptotic relative efficiency of this statistic is obtained and its numerical values are computed for uniform and Weibull censoring, Effects of uniform random censoring on the censoring level of the experiment are illus¬trated, A direct proof for the joint asymptotic normality of the mlefs of the shape and the scale parameters is also given  相似文献

The minimum disparity estimators proposed by Lindsay (1994) for discrete models form an attractive subclass of minimum distance estimators which achieve their robustness without sacrificing first order efficiency at the model. Similarly, disparity test statistics are useful robust alternatives to the likelihood ratio test for testing of hypotheses in parametric models; they are asymptotically equivalent to the likelihood ratio test statistics under the null hypothesis and contiguous alternatives. Despite their asymptotic optimality properties, the small sample performance of many of the minimum disparity estimators and disparity tests can be considerably worse compared to the maximum likelihood estimator and the likelihood ratio test respectively. In this paper we focus on the class of blended weight Hellinger distances, a general subfamily of disparities, and study the effects of combining two different distances within this class to generate the family of “combined” blended weight Hellinger distances, and identify the members of this family which generally perform well. More generally, we investigate the class of "combined and penal-ized" blended weight Hellinger distances; the penalty is based on reweighting the empty cells, following Harris and Basu (1994). It is shown that some members of the combined and penalized family have rather attractive properties  相似文献

Test statistics for checking the independence between the innovations of several time series are developed. The time series models considered allow for general specifications for the conditional mean and variance functions that could depend on common explanatory variables. In testing for independence between more than two time series, checking pairwise independence does not lead to consistent procedures. Thus a finite family of empirical processes relying on multivariate lagged residuals are constructed, and we derive their asymptotic distributions. In order to obtain simple asymptotic covariance structures, Möbius transformations of the empirical processes are studied, and simplifications occur. Under the null hypothesis of independence, we show that these transformed processes are asymptotically Gaussian, independent, and with tractable covariance functions not depending on the estimated parameters. Various procedures are discussed, including Cramér–von Mises test statistics and tests based on non‐parametric measures. The ranks of the residuals are considered in the new methods, giving test statistics which are asymptotically margin‐free. Generalized cross‐correlations are introduced, extending the concept of cross‐correlation to an arbitrary number of time series; portmanteau procedures based on them are discussed. In order to detect the dependence visually, graphical devices are proposed. Simulations are conducted to explore the finite sample properties of the methodology, which is found to be powerful against various types of alternatives when the independence is tested between two and three time series. An application is considered, using the daily log‐returns of Apple, Intel and Hewlett‐Packard traded on the Nasdaq financial market. In this paper, we proposed a class of tests of proportional hazards assumption for left-truncated and right-censored data based on a pair of estimators of the hazard ratio constant. Using counting process and martingale theory, the asymptotically normal distribution of the test statistic is derived and a family of consistent estimators of variance are also provided. Extensive simulation studies were conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed test statistics under finite sample situations. Two real data sets are analyzed to illustrate our method.  相似文献

The purpose of this article is to investigate hypothesis testing in functional comparative calibration models. Wald type statistics are considered which are asymptotically distributed according to the chi-square distribution. The statistics are based on maximum likelihood, corrected score approach, and method of moment estimators of the model parameters, which are shown to be consistent and asymptotically normally distributed. Results of analytical and simulation studies seem to indicate that the Wald statistics based on the method of moment estimators and the corrected score estimators are, as expected, less efficient than the Wald type statistic based on the maximum likelihood estimators for small n. Wald statistic based on moment estimators are simpler to compute than the other Wald statistics tests and their performance improves significantly as n increases. Comparisons with an alternative F statistics proposed in the literature are also reported.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop simple non-parametric test based on U-statistics for testing constant failure rate against IFR, IFRA, DMRL, NBU and NBUE alternatives. The asymptotic properties of the test statistics are studied. In particular, the test statistics are shown to be asymptotically normal and consistent against the relevant alternatives. Some numerical results are presented to demonstrate the performance of the proposed tests.  相似文献

The problem of sequential estimation of the mean with quadratic loss and fixed cost per observation is considered within the Bayesian framework. Instead of fully sequential sampling, a two-stage sampling technique is introduced to solve the problem. The proposed two-stage procedure is robust in the sense that it does not depend on the distribution of outcome variables and the prior. It is shown to be asymptotically not worse than the optimal fixed-sample-size procedures for the arbitrary distributions, and to be asymptotically Bayes for the distributions of one-parameter exponential family.  相似文献

We present results that extend an existing test of equality of correlation matrices. A new test statistic is proposed and is shown to be asymptotically distributed as a linear combination of independent x 2 random variables. This new formulation allows us to find the power of the existing test and our extensions by deriving the distribution under the alternative using a linear combination of independent non-central x 2 random variables. We also investigate the null and the alternative distribution of two related statistics. The first one is a quadratic form in deviations from a control group with which the remaining k-1 groups are to be compared. The second test is designed for comparing adjacent groups. Several approximations for the null and the alternative distribution are considered and two illustrative examples are provided.  相似文献

In the paper a sequence of bounded regions containing n independent identically and uniformly on Dn distributed points is considered. It is assumed that the d–dimensional volume v(Dn) is asymptotically proportional to n. Under these conditions it is shown that the number of pairs of points within a distance r>0 of each other is asymptotically normally distributed. For proving this among other things a lemma of BOLTHAUSEN is used, whereas even strong estimates for U–statistics are insufficient. The obtained result is applied for testing the hypothesis of randomness  相似文献

We introduce a family of Rényi statistics of orders r?∈?R for testing composite hypotheses in general exponential models, as alternatives to the previously considered generalized likelihood ratio (GLR) statistic and generalized Wald statistic. If appropriately normalized exponential models converge in a specific sense when the sample size (observation window) tends to infinity, and if the hypothesis is regular, then these statistics are shown to be χ2-distributed under the hypothesis. The corresponding Rényi tests are shown to be consistent. The exact sizes and powers of asymptotically α-size Rényi, GLR and generalized Wald tests are evaluated for a concrete hypothesis about a bivariate Lévy process and moderate observation windows. In this concrete situation the exact sizes of the Rényi test of the order r?=?2 practically coincide with those of the GLR and generalized Wald tests but the exact powers of the Rényi test are on average somewhat better.  相似文献

This paper presents a class of generalized Wald, generalized score and generalized likelihood ratio statistics for hypothesis testing and model selection for multivariate failure time data. These statistics are based on a marginal hazard model with a common baseline hazard function. The large sample distributions of these statistics are examined. It is shown that the proposed test statistics follow asymptotically a weighted sum of independent χ12 distributions.  相似文献

In this paper, we provide a unified framework for two-sample t-test with partially paired data. We show that many existing two-sample t-tests with partially paired data can be viewed as special members in our unified framework. Some shortcomings of these t-tests are discussed. We also propose the asymptotically optimal weighted linear combination of the test statistics comparing all four paired and unpaired data sets. Simulation studies are used to illustrate the performance of our proposed asymptotically optimal weighted combinations of test statistics and compare with some existing methods. It is found that our proposed test statistic is generally more powerful. Three real data sets about CD4 count, DNA extraction concentrations, and the quality of sleep are also analyzed by using our newly introduced test statistic.  相似文献

A one-sample asymptotically normal test statistic Is derived for testing the hypothesis that the coefficient of variation of a normal population is equal to a specified value. Based on this derivation, an asymptotically noraml two-sample test statistic and an asymptotically chi-square k-sample test statistic are derived for testing the hypothesis that the coefficients of variation of k ≥2 normal populations are equal. The two and k-sample test statistics allow for unequal sample sizes. Results of a simulation study which evaluate the size and power of the test statistics and compare the test statistics to earlier ones developed by McKay (1932) and Bennett (1976) are presented.  相似文献

The hybrid bootstrap uses resampling ideas to extend the duality approach to the interval estimation for a parameter of interest when there are nuisance parameters. The confidence region constructed by the hybrid bootstrap may perform much better than the ordinary bootstrap region in a situation where the data provide substantial information about the nuisance parameter, but limited information about the parameter of interest. We apply this method to estimate the post-change mean after a change is detected by a stopping procedure in a sequence of independent normal variables. Since distribution theory in change point problems is generally a challenge, we use bootstrap simulation to find empirical distributions of test statistics and calculate critical thresholds. Both likelihood ratio and Bayesian test statistics are considered to set confidence regions for post-change means in the normal model. In the simulation studies, the performance of hybrid regions are compared with that of ordinary bootstrap regions in terms of the widths and coverage probabilities of confidence intervals.  相似文献

The analysis of linear functional relationships is considered. Expressions useful for the estimation of both unconstrained and con¬strained parameters are presented. The testing of hypotheses which consist of linear constraints on the parameters is discussed. Wald type and Wilks type test statistics and their asymptotic null dis¬tributions are derived. It appears that these test statistics are not asymptotically equivalent.  相似文献

Based on two-sample rank order statistics, a repeated significance testing procedure for a multi-sample location problem is considered. The asymptotic distribution theory of the proposed tests is given under the null hypothesis as well as under local alternatives. A Bahadur efficiency result of the repeated significance test relative to the terminal test based solely on the target sample size is presented. In the adaptation of the proposed tests to multiple comparisons, an asymptotically equivalent test statistic in terms of the rank estimators of the location parameters is derived from which the Scheffé method of multiple comparisons can be obtained in a convinient way.  相似文献

In many situations, we want to verify the existence of a relationship between multivariate time series. In this paper, we generalize the procedure developed by Haugh (1976) for univariate time series in order to test the hypothesis of noncorrelation between two multivariate stationary ARMA series. The test statistics are based on residual cross-correlation matrices. Under the null hypothesis of noncorrelation, we show that an arbitrary vector of residual cross-correlations asymptotically follows the same distribution as the corresponding vector of cross-correlations between the two innovation series. From this result, it follows that the test statistics considered are asymptotically distributed as chi-square random variables. Two test procedures are described. The first one is based on the residual cross-correlation matrix at a particular lag, whilst the second one is based on a portmanteau type statistic that generalizes Haugh's statistic. We also discuss how the procedures for testing noncorrelation can be adapted to determine the directions of causality in the sense of Granger (1969) between the two series. An advantage of the proposed procedures is that their application does not require the estimation of a global model for the two series. The finite-sample properties of the statistics introduced were studied by simulation under the null hypothesis. It led to modified statistics whose upper quantiles are much better approximated by those of the corresponding chi-square distribution. Finally, the procedures developed are applied to two different sets of economic data.  相似文献

Abstract.  This paper considers generalized partially linear models. We propose empirical likelihood-based statistics to construct confidence regions for the parametric and non-parametric components. The resulting statistics are shown to be asymptotically chi-square distributed. Finite-sample performance of the proposed statistics is assessed by simulation experiments. The proposed methods are applied to a data set from an AIDS clinical trial.  相似文献
