ABSTRACT

In Bayesian theory, calculating a posterior probability distribution is highly important but typically difficult. Therefore, some methods have been proposed to deal with such problem, among which, the most popular one is the asymptotic expansions of posterior distributions. In this paper, we propose an alternative approach, named a random weighting method, for scaled posterior distributions, and give an ideal convergence rate, o(n( ? 1/2)), which serves as the theoretical guarantee for methods of numerical simulations.  相似文献

Abstract

Confidence sets, p values, maximum likelihood estimates, and other results of non-Bayesian statistical methods may be adjusted to favor sampling distributions that are simple compared to others in the parametric family. The adjustments are derived from a prior likelihood function previously used to adjust posterior distributions.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Fernández-Durán [Circular distributions based on nonnegative trigonometric sums. Biometrics. 2004;60:499–503] developed a new family of circular distributions based on non-negative trigonometric sums that is suitable for modelling data sets that present skewness and/or multimodality. In this paper, a Bayesian approach to deriving estimates of the unknown parameters of this family of distributions is presented. Because the parameter space is the surface of a hypersphere and the dimension of the hypersphere is an unknown parameter of the distribution, the Bayesian inference must be based on transdimensional Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithms to obtain samples from the high-dimensional posterior distribution. The MCMC algorithm explores the parameter space by moving along great circles on the surface of the hypersphere. The methodology is illustrated with real and simulated data sets.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The display of the data by means of contingency tables is used in different approaches to statistical inference, for example, to broach the test of homogeneity of independent multinomial distributions. We develop a Bayesian procedure to test simple null hypotheses versus bilateral alternatives in contingency tables. Given independent samples of two binomial distributions and taking a mixed prior distribution, we calculate the posterior probability that the proportion of successes in the first population is the same as in the second. This posterior probability is compared with the p-value of the classical method, obtaining a reconciliation between both results, classical and Bayesian. The obtained results are generalized for r × s tables.  相似文献

A finite mixture model using the multivariate t distribution has been shown as a robust extension of normal mixtures. In this paper, we present a Bayesian approach for inference about parameters of t-mixture models. The specifications of prior distributions are weakly informative to avoid causing nonintegrable posterior distributions. We present two efficient EM-type algorithms for computing the joint posterior mode with the observed data and an incomplete future vector as the sample. Markov chain Monte Carlo sampling schemes are also developed to obtain the target posterior distribution of parameters. The advantages of Bayesian approach over the maximum likelihood method are demonstrated via a set of real data.  相似文献

Abstract

Handling data with the nonignorably missing mechanism is still a challenging problem in statistics. In this paper, we develop a fully Bayesian adaptive Lasso approach for quantile regression models with nonignorably missing response data, where the nonignorable missingness mechanism is specified by a logistic regression model. The proposed method extends the Bayesian Lasso by allowing different penalization parameters for different regression coefficients. Furthermore, a hybrid algorithm that combined the Gibbs sampler and Metropolis-Hastings algorithm is implemented to simulate the parameters from posterior distributions, mainly including regression coefficients, shrinkage coefficients, parameters in the non-ignorable missing models. Finally, some simulation studies and a real example are used to illustrate the proposed methodology.  相似文献

Abstract

This article is concerned with the comparison of Bayesian and classical testing of a point null hypothesis for the Pareto distribution when there is a nuisance parameter. In the first stage, using a fixed prior distribution, the posterior probability is obtained and compared with the P-value. In the second case, lower bounds of the posterior probability of H0, under a reasonable class of prior distributions, are compared with the P-value. It has been shown that even in the presence of nuisance parameters for the model, these two approaches can lead to different results in statistical inference.  相似文献

Consider the logistic linear model, with some explanatory variables overlooked. Those explanatory variables may be quantitative or qualitative. In either case, the resulting true response variable is not a binomial or a beta-binomial but a sum of binomials. Hence, standard computer packages for logistic regression can be inappropriate even if an overdispersion factor is incorporated. Therefore, a discrete exponential family assumption is considered to broaden the class of sampling models. Likelihood and Bayesian analyses are discussed. Bayesian computation techniques such as Laplacian approximations and Markov chain simulations are used to compute posterior densities and moments. Approximate conditional distributions are derived and are shown to be accurate. The Markov chain simulations are performed effectively to calculate posterior moments by using the approximate conditional distributions. The methodology is applied to Keeler's hardness of winter wheat data for checking binomial assumptions and to Matsumura's Accounting exams data for detailed likelihood and Bayesian analyses.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Distributions of non-overlapping runs in multistate systems are derived using a new generating function (GF) approach, which has been applied previously mainly to exact length runs. By utilizing this method, univariate and multivariate joint distributions of non-overlapping runs are derived in a unified way. The GF approach also leads naturally to the asymptotic Gaussian distributions, with the mean, variance, and covariance linear in the size of the system.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, the stress-strength reliability, R, is estimated in type II censored samples from Pareto distributions. The classical inference includes obtaining the maximum likelihood estimator, an exact confidence interval, and the confidence intervals based on Wald and signed log-likelihood ratio statistics. Bayesian inference includes obtaining Bayes estimator, equi-tailed credible interval, and highest posterior density (HPD) interval given both informative and non-informative prior distributions. Bayes estimator of R is obtained using four methods: Lindley's approximation, Tierney-Kadane method, Monte Carlo integration, and MCMC. Also, we compare the proposed methods by simulation study and provide a real example to illustrate them.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Recently, the Bayesian nonparametric approaches in survival studies attract much more attentions. Because of multimodality in survival data, the mixture models are very common. We introduce a Bayesian nonparametric mixture model with Burr distribution (Burr type XII) as the kernel. Since the Burr distribution shares good properties of common distributions on survival analysis, it has more flexibility than other distributions. By applying this model to simulated and real failure time datasets, we show the preference of this model and compare it with Dirichlet process mixture models with different kernels. The Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) simulation methods to calculate the posterior distribution are used.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Conditional specification of distributions is a developing area with increasing applications. In the finite discrete case, a variety of compatible conditions can be derived. In this paper, we propose an alternative approach to study the compatibility of two conditional probability distributions under the finite discrete setup. A technique based on rank-based criterion is shown to be particularly convenient for identifying compatible distributions corresponding to complete conditional specification including the case with zeros. The proposed methods are illustrated with several examples.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In queuing theory, a major interest of researchers is studying the behavior and formation process and analyzing the performance characteristics of queues, particularly the traffic intensity, which is defined as the ratio between the arrival rate and the service rate. How these parameters can be estimated using some statistical inferential method is the mathematical problem treated here. This article aims to obtain better Bayesian estimates for the traffic intensity of M/M/1 queues, which, in Kendall notation, stand for Markovian single-server infinity queues. The Jeffreys prior is proposed to obtain the posterior and predictive distributions of some parameters of interest. Samples are obtained through simulation and some performance characteristics are analyzed. It is observed from the Bayes factor that Jeffreys prior is competitive, among informative and non-informative prior distributions, and presents the best performance in many of the cases tested.  相似文献

In the context of an objective Bayesian approach to the multinomial model, Dirichlet(a, …, a) priors with a < 1 have previously been shown to be inadequate in the presence of zero counts, suggesting that the uniform prior (a = 1) is the preferred candidate. In the presence of many zero counts, however, this prior may not be satisfactory either. A model selection approach is proposed, allowing for the possibility of zero parameters corresponding to zero count categories. This approach results in a posterior mixture of Dirichlet distributions and marginal mixtures of beta distributions, which seem to avoid the problems that potentially result from the various proposed Dirichlet priors, in particular in the context of extreme data with zero counts.  相似文献

The Delta method uses truncated Lagrange expansions of statistics to obtain approximations to their distributions. In this paper, we consider statistics Y=g(μ+X), where X is any random vector. We obtain domains 𝒟 such that, when μ∈𝒟, we may apply the distribution derived from the Delta method. Namely, we will consider an application on the normal case to illustrate our approach.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we consider an effective Bayesian inference for censored Student-t linear regression model, which is a robust alternative to the usual censored Normal linear regression model. Based on the mixture representation of the Student-t distribution, we propose a non-iterative Bayesian sampling procedure to obtain independently and identically distributed samples approximately from the observed posterior distributions, which is different from the iterative Markov Chain Monte Carlo algorithm. We conduct model selection and influential analysis using the posterior samples to choose the best fitted model and to detect latent outliers. We illustrate the performance of the procedure through simulation studies, and finally, we apply the procedure to two real data sets, one is the insulation life data with right censoring and the other is the wage rates data with left censoring, and we get some interesting results.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We propose a simple yet powerful method to construct strictly stationary Markovian models with given but arbitrary invariant distributions. The idea is based on a Poisson-type transform modulating the dependence structure in the model. An appealing feature of our approach is the possibility to control the underlying transition probabilities and, therefore, incorporate them within standard estimation methods. Given the resulting representation of the transition density, a Gibbs sampler algorithm based on the slice method is proposed and implemented. In the discrete-time case, special attention is placed to the class of generalized inverse Gaussian distributions. In the continuous case, we first provide a brief treatment of the class of gamma distributions, and then extend it to cover other invariant distributions, such as the generalized extreme value class. The proposed approach and estimation algorithm are illustrated with real financial datasets. Supplementary materials for this article are available online.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A general class of models for discrete and/or continuous responses is proposed in which joint distributions are constructed via the conditional approach. It is assumed that the distributions of one response and of the other response given the first one belong to exponential family of distributions. Furthermore, the marginal means are related to the covariates by link functions and a dependency structure between the responses is inserted into the model. Estimation methods, diagnostic analysis and a simulation study considering a Bernoulli-exponential model, a particular case of the class, are presented. Finally, this model is used in a real data set.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The support vector machine (SVM), first developed by Vapnik and his group at AT&T Bell Laboratories, is being used as a new technique for regression and classification problems. In this paper we present an approach to estimating prediction intervals for SVM regression based on posterior predictive densities. Furthermore, the method is illustrated with a data example.  相似文献
