Typically, prediction intervals employ the observations X1,…, Xn in the first sample in order to predict a specified function of the future sample Y1, …, Yn. Here one- and two-sided prediction intervals for at least q of N future observations are developed for the situation in which, in addition to the previous sample, there is prior information available. Suppose we have k independent random samples where the ith sample is drawn from the ith population having the pdf f(x; ρi, s?i), 0 < ρi < ∞, 0 < s?i < s?i < and f(x; ρ, s?) is as given above. Let Xi1 < Xi2 <… < Xiri denote the first ri order statistics in a random sample of size ni, drawn from the ith population with pdf f(x; ρi, s?i), i = 1, 2,…, k. In this paper we show that the well known tests of hypotheses about the parameters ρi, s?i, i = 1, 2,…, k based on the above observations are asymptotically optimal in the sense of Bahadur efficiency. In an earlier paper the authors (1997) extended the results of Hayter (1990) to the two parameter exponential probability model. This paper addressee the extention to the scale parameter case under location-scale probability model. Consider k (k≧3) treatments or competing firms such that an observation from with treatment or firm follows a distribution with cumulative distribution function (cdf) Fi(x)=F[(x-μi)/Qi], where F(·) is any absolutely continuous cdf, i=1,…,k. We propose a test to test the null hypothesis H01=…=θk against the simple ordered alternative H11≦…≦θk, with at least one strict inequality, using the data Xi,j, i=1,…k; j=1,…,n1. Two methods to compute the critical points of the proposed test have been demonstrated by talking k two parameter exponential distributions. The test procedure also allows us to construct simultaneous one sided confidence intervals (SOCIs) for the ordered pairwise ratios θji, 1≦i<j≦k. Statistical simulation revealed that: 9i) actual sizes of the critical points are almost conservative and (ii) power of the proposed test relative to some existing tests is higher.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to study the distribution function F(x1,…,xk) of (T2 i,…,T2 k) when n is large. First we derive an asymptotic expansion of the characteristic function of (T2 i,…,T2 k) up to the order n?2. Next we give asymptotic expansions for (T2 i,…,T2 k) in two cases (i)ρ=Ik and (ii) k=2 by inverting the expanded characteristic function up to the orders n?2 and n?1, respectively. Two families of parameter estimation procedures for the stable laws based on a variant of the characteristic function are provided. The methodology which produces viable computational procedures for the stable laws is generally applicable to other families of distributions across a variety of settings. Both families of procedures may be described as a modified weighted chi-squared minimization procedure, and both explicitly take account of constraints on the parameter space. Influence func-tions for and efficiencies of the estimators are given. If x1, x2, …xn random sample from an unknown distribution F , a method for determining the stable law to which F is attracted is developed. Procedures for regression and autoregres-sion with stable error structure are provided. A number of examples are given.  相似文献

A simple random sample is observed from a population with a large number‘K’ of alleles, to test for random mating. Of n couples, nijkl have female genotype ij and male genotype kl (i, j, k, l{1,…, A‘}). The large contingency table is collapsed into three counts, n0, n1 and n2 where np is the number of couples with s alleles in common (s = 0,1, 2). The counts are estimated by np?o where n0, is the estimated probability of a couple having s alleles in common under the hypothesis of random mating. The usual chi-square goodness of fit statistic X2 compares observed (ns) with expected (np?) over the three categories, s = 0,1,2. An empirical observation has suggested that X2 is close to having a chi-square distribution with two degrees of freedom (X) despite a large number of parameters implicitly estimated in e. Based on a random sample of N independent vector observations on X, this paper considers both upper and lower (one-sided) and two-sided 100γ% (0 < γ < 1) confidence intervals for μ[k] and μ[1], the largest and the smallest mean, respectively, when Σ is known and when Σ is equal to σ2R with common unknown variance σ2 > 0 and correlation matrix R known, respectively. An optimum two-sided confidence interval via finding the shortest length from this class is also considered. There are numerous situations in categorical data analysis where one wishes to test hypotheses involving a set of linear inequality constraints placed upon the cell probabilities. For example, it may be of interest to test for symmetry in k × k contingency tables against one-sided alternatives. In this case, the null hypothesis imposes a set of linear equalities on the cell probabilities (namely pij = Pji ×i > j), whereas the alternative specifies directional inequalities. Another important application (Robertson, Wright, and Dykstra 1988) is testing for or against stochastic ordering between the marginals of a k × k contingency table when the variables are ordinal and independence holds. Here we extend existing likelihood-ratio results to cover more general situations. To be specific, we consider testing Ht,0 against H1 - H0 and H1 against H2 - H 1 when H0:k × i=1 pixji = 0, j = 1,…, s, H1:k × i=1 pixji × 0, j = 1,…, s, and does not impose any restrictions on p. The xji's are known constants, and s × k - 1. We show that the asymptotic distributions of the likelihood-ratio tests are of chi-bar-square type, and provide expressions for the weighting values.  相似文献

Tests for normality can be divided into two groups - those based upon a function of the empirical distribution function and those based upon a function of the original observations. The latter group of statistics test spherical symmetry and not necessarily normality. If the distribution is completely specified then the first group can be used to test for ‘spherical’ normality. However, if the distribution is incompletely specified and F‘‘xi - x’/s’ is used these test statistics also test sphericity rather than normality. A Monte Carlo study was conducted for the completely specified case, to investigate the sensitivity of the distance tests to departures from normality when the alternative distributions are non-normal spherically symmetric laws. Data which is grouped and truncated is considered. We are given numbers n1<…<nk=n and we observe Xni ),i=1,…k, and the tottal number of observations available (N> nk is unknown. If the underlying distribution has one unknown parameter θ which enters as a scale parameter, we examine the form of the equations for both conditional, unconditional and modified maximum likelihood estimators of θ and N and examine when these estimators will be finite, and unique. We also develop expressions for asymptotic bias and search for modified estimators which minimize the maximum asymptotic bias. These results are specialized tG the zxponential distribution. We investigate the asymptotic behavior of the probability density function (pdf) and the cumulative distribution function (cdf) of Student's t-distribution with ν > 0 degrees of freedom (t ν for short) for ν tending to infinity when the argument x = x ν of the pdf (cdf) depends on ν and tends to ± ∞ (?∞). To this end, we consider the ratio of the pdf's (cdf's) of the t ν- and the standard normal distribution. Depending on the choice of the argument x ν, the pdf-ratio (cdf-ratio) tends to 1, a fixed value greater than 1, or to ∞. As a byproduct, we obtain a result for Mill' ratio when x ν → ?∞.  相似文献
