ABSTRACTFor a trivariate distribution, an efficient family of estimators of median of study variable using the known information on the auxiliary variables has been proposed under two-phase sampling design. The expressions for bias and its mean square error have been obtained up to first order of approximation. It has been shown that the proposed estimator has smaller bias as compared to estimator defined by Singh et al. (2006) with the same efficiency. The results have also been illustrated numerically by taking data from different populations considered in literature. 相似文献

ABSTRACTThe article suggests a class of estimators of population mean in stratified random sampling using auxiliary information with its properties. In addition, various known estimators/classes of estimators are identified as members of the suggested class. It has been shown that the suggested class of estimators under optimum condition performs better than the usual unbiased, usual combined ratio, usual combined regression, Kadilar and Cingi (2005), Singh and Vishwakarma (2006) estimators and the members belonging to the classes of estimators envisaged by Kadilar and Cingi (2003), Singh, Tailor et al. The randomized response (RR) technique with two decks of cards proposed by Odumade and Singh (2009) can always be made more efficient than the RR techniques proposed by Warner (1965), Mangat and Singh (1990), and Mangat (1994) by adjusting the proportion of cards in the decks. The proposed method of Odumade and Singh (2009) is limited to simple random sampling with replacement (SRSWR) sampling only. In this article, generalization of Odumade and Singh strategy is provided for complex survey designs and a wider class of estimators. The results of Odumade and Singh (2009) can be derived from the proposed method as a special case. 相似文献

ABSTRACTThis paper addresses the problem of estimating the population mean on the current occasion in two occasion successive sampling. Based on all the readily available information from first and second occasions, a class of estimators is proposed with its properties. It is identified that the estimator recently suggested by Singh and Homa (Journal of Statistical Theory and Practice, 7: 1, 146–155, 2013) is a member of the suggested class of estimators. The correct expression of the mean squared error/variance of the Singh and Homa (2013) estimator is given. The superiority of the suggested class of estimators is discussed with the sample mean estimator when there is no matching, the best combined estimator given in Cochran (1977, p.346) and Singh and Homa (2013) estimator. Optimum replacement policy has been discussed. Numerical illustration is given in support of the present study. 相似文献

ABSTRACTIn this article, the problem of estimation of the several proportions of two inter-dependent sensitive characteristics prevailing in a given population is considered. A new two-stage randomized response model has been proposed by extending Lee et al.’s (2013) model. The expressions for biases, variances, and mean square errors of different estimators have been provided. The relative efficiency comparisons of the proposed estimators has been made, numerically by considering the different practicable choices of the design parameters. It was observed that the proposed extended version performs efficiently than simple and crossed models of Lee et al. (2013). 相似文献

AbstractIn this article, we improvise Singh and Grewal (2013) and Hussain et al. (2016) techniques by introducing a new two-stage randomization response process. Using the proposed new technique, we achieve better efficiency and increasing protection of privacy of respondents than the Kuk (1990), Singh and Grewal (2013) and Hussain et al. (2016) models. The relative efficiency and protection of the respondents of the proposed two-stage randomization device have been investigated through simulation study, and the situations are reported where the proposed estimator performs better than its competitors. The SAS code used to investigate the performance of the proposed strategy are also provided. 相似文献

There have been many alternative strategies for implementing sampling survey on quantitative characteristic of sensitive issues by using randomized response (RR) technique. The efficiency of most of those strategies has been improved by choosing the suitable design parameters of model. However, the two different procedures with pre-assigned design parameter values cannot ensure that they possess the same protection degree to the respondents. Some earlier comparisons of those strategies are inadequate (as in Eichhorn and Hayre, 1983; Gupta et al., 2002). Some literature contains a more comprehensive comparison based on efficiency and protection degree to the respondents among the qualitative characteristic RR techniques (see Bhargava and Singh, 2002; Nayak, 1994; Zaizai and Zankan, 2004). As far as the comparisons are concerned that are based on efficiency and protection degree to the respondents among the quantitative characteristic RR techniques, very few related studies have been found so far. The purpose of this article is to give a more adequate comparison among those earlier quantitative characteristic RR strategies. It is found that several important differences between the results obtained in this article and some known results exist. Therefore, these earlier RR strategies should be reevaluated. 相似文献

We propose a class of estimators for the population mean when there are missing data in the data set. Obtaining the mean square error equations of the proposed estimators, we show the conditions where the proposed estimators are more efficient than the sample mean, ratio-type estimators, and the estimators in Singh and Horn (2000) and Singh and Deo (2003) in the case of missing data. These conditions are also supported by a numerical example. 相似文献

This article considers the problem of estimating the population mean using information on two auxiliary variables in the presence of non response under two-phase sampling. Some improved ratio-in-regression type estimators have been proposed in four different situations of non response along with their properties under large sample approximation. Efficiency comparisons of the proposed estimators with the usual unbiased estimator by Hansen and Hurwitz (1946), conventional ratio and regression estimators using single auxiliary variable and Singh and Kumar (2010b) estimators using two auxiliary variables have been made. Huang (2010) proposed an optional randomized response model using a linear combination scrambling which is a generalization of the multiplicative scrambling of Eichhorn and Hayre (1983) and the additive scrambling of Gupta et al. (2006, 2010). In this article, we discuss two main issues. (1) Can the Huang (2010) model be improved further by using a two-stage approach?; (2) Does the linear combination scrambling provide any benefit over the additive scrambling of Gupta et al. (2010)? We will note that the answer to the first question is “yes” but the answer to the second question is “no.” 相似文献

We derive explicit expressions for the moments, incomplete moments, quantile function and generating function of the additive Weibull model pioneered by Xie and Lai (1995), which is a quite flexible distribution for fitting lifetime data with bathtub-shaped failure rate function. In addition, we estimate the model parameters by maximum likelihood and determine the observed information matrix. In this article, we demonstrate that the approach of Gandy and Jensen (2005) can be applied to left-truncated right-censored (LTRC) data and doubly censored data. We present an efficient new approach to estimate global sensitivity indices based on ANOVA high-dimensional model representation. The method makes use of the properties of orthogonal arrays and extend the results of Wang et al. (2010) to a more general situation. A theorem is given to illustrate that both the non influential and significant sensitivity indices are well estimated. This new method offers higher sampling efficiency than those of Sobol and Saltelli. We test its performance on two different models, which are widely used in engineering and statistical areas. 相似文献

This article addresses the problem of estimating the finite population mean in stratified random sampling using auxiliary information. Motivated by Singh (1967) and Bahl and Tuteja (1991) a ratio-cum-product type exponential estimator has been suggested and its bias and mean squared error have been derived under large sample approximation. Suggested estimator has been compared with usual unbiased estimator of population mean in stratified random sampling, combined ratio estimator, combined product estimator, ratio and product type exponential estimator of Singh et al. (2008). Conditions under which suggested estimator is more efficient than other considered estimators have been obtained. In this article, we consider the problem of testing a general multivariate linear hypothesis in a multivariate linear model when the N × p observation matrix is normally distributed with unknown covariance matrix, and N ≤ p. This includes the case of testing the equality of several mean vectors. A test is proposed which is a generalized version of the two-sample test proposed by Srivastava and Du (2008). The asymptotic null and nonnull distributions are obtained. The performance of this test is compared, theoretically as well as numerically, with the corresponding generalized version of the two-sample Dempster (1958) test, or more appropriately Bai and Saranadasa (1996) test who gave its asymptotic version. 相似文献

Asymptotic expression of the bias and mean squared error of the proposed estimator are obtained. Asymptotic optimum estimator in the proposed estimator has been obtained with its mean squared error formula. Conditions under which the proposed estimator is more efficient than usual unbiased estimator, combined ratio and product type estimators, Singh et al. This paper deals with Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium (DSGE) models under a multivariate student-t distribution for the structural shocks. Based on the solution algorithm of Klein (2000) and the gamma-normal representation of the t-distribution, the TaRB-MH algorithm of Chib and Ramamurthy (2010) is used to estimate the model. A technique for estimating the marginal likelihood of the DSGE student-t model is also provided. The methodologies are illustrated first with simulated data and then with the DSGE model of Ireland (2004) where the results support the t-error model in relation to the Gaussian model. 相似文献

Block designs with nested rows and columns were introduced in Srivastava (1978) and more specifically defined in Singh and Dey (1979). We present properties of some partially balanced block designs with nested rows and columns. The designs are considered for near-factorial experiments, when there are a levels of experimental factor A and b levels of experimental factor B and there is one control treatment added. In this article we extend the theory of block designs with nested rows and columns described by \L acka and Koz?owska (2009) and Koz?owska et al. (2011). We carry out our consideration by the derived mixed linear model resulting from randomization of blocks, rows and columns. For this model of observations, some properties of estimation of treatment contrasts are discussed. We calculate the efficiency factors of estimation of treatment contrasts. We formulate theorems for some partially balanced block designs with nested rows and columns. Plant protection experiment on limitation of food acceptability for T. urticae is given to show how the obtained results can be applied. 相似文献
