A modified chi-square test statistic is constructed for testing the hypothesis of independence in a two-way contingency table against a class of ordered alternatives defined in terms of pooled cross-product ratios. The test procedure can also be used to test for positive quadrant dependence in a two-way contingency table. The asymptotic distribution of the test statistic under the null hypothesis is obtained. Some power comparisons with known test procedures are given. A numerical example is given to illustrate the use of this test.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Conditional tests are constructed by conditioning a fit measure to a minimal sufficient statistic. To calculate the p-value of these tests, Monte Carlo methods with co-sufficient samples can be used. In this paper we show how to simulate co-sufficient samples when the data distribution belongs to the exponential family with doubly transitive sufficient statistics. The proposed method is illustrated using the beta distribution.  相似文献

Many test statistics for classical simple goodness-of-fit hypothesis testing problems are distancemeasures between the distribution function of the null hypothesis distributipn and the empirical distribution function sometimes called EDF tests. If a composite parametric null hypothesis is considered in place of the simple null hypothesis, then a test statistic can be obtained from each EDF test by replacing the known distribution function of the simple problem by the Rao-Blackwell estimating distribution function. In this note we use known results to show that these Rao-Blackwell-EDF test statistics have distributions that do not depend upon parameter values, and hence that these tests are independent of a complete sufficient statistic for the parameters.  相似文献

The authors propose two methods based on the signed root of the likelihood ratio statistic for one‐sided testing of a simple null hypothesis about a scalar parameter in the présence of nuisance parameters. Both methods are third‐order accurate and utilise simulation to avoid the need for onerous analytical calculations characteristic of competing saddlepoint procedures. Moreover, the new methods do not require specification of ancillary statistics. The methods respect the conditioning associated with similar tests up to an error of third order, and conditioning on ancillary statistics to an error of second order.  相似文献

A form of the distribution function of ratios of linear combinations of order statistics of samples from an exponential distribution is given. From the distribution, tables of percentage points of the statistic for α = .05, .95, and n = 3(1)50, and for censoring up to five observations are presented. Use of the tables is made to find critical values of the most powerful scale and location invariant test of exponentiality against uniformity, and also to find critical values for a test of outliers in an exponential population.  相似文献

The exponential family structure of the joint distribution of generalized order statistics is utilized to establish multivariate tests on the model parameters. For simple and composite null hypotheses, the likelihood ratio test (LR test), Wald's test, and Rao's score test are derived and turn out to have simple representations. The asymptotic distribution of the corresponding test statistics under the null hypothesis is stated, and, in case of a simple null hypothesis, asymptotic optimality of the LR test is addressed. Applications of the tests are presented; in particular, we discuss their use in reliability, and to decide whether a Poisson process is homogeneous. Finally, a power study is performed to measure and compare the quality of the tests for both, simple and composite null hypotheses.  相似文献

We develop an exact Kolmogorov–Smirnov goodness-of-fit test for the Poisson distribution with an unknown mean. This test is conditional, with the test statistic being the maximum absolute difference between the empirical distribution function and its conditional expectation given the sample total. Exact critical values are obtained using a new algorithm. We explore properties of the test, and we illustrate it with three examples. The new test seems to be the first exact Poisson goodness-of-fit test for which critical values are available without simulation or exhaustive enumeration.  相似文献

The two-parameter gamma model is widely used in reliability, environmental, medical and other areas of statistics. It has a two-dimensional sufficient statistic, and a two-dimensional parameter which can be taken to describe shape and mean. This makes it closely comparable to the normal model, but it differs substantially in that the exact distribution for the minimal sufficient statistic is not available. Some recently developed asymptotic theory is used to derive an approximation for observed levels of significance and confidence intervals for the mean parameter of the model. The approximation is as easy to apply as first-order methods, and substantially more accurate.  相似文献

A scan statistic is proposed for the prospective monitoring of spatiotemporal count data with an excess of zeros. The method that is based on an outbreak model for the zero‐inflated Poisson distribution is shown to be superior to traditional scan statistics based on the Poisson distribution in the presence of structural zeros. The spatial accuracy and the detection timeliness of the proposed scan statistic are investigated by means of simulation, and an application on the weekly cases of Campylobacteriosis in Germany illustrates how the scan statistic could be used to detect emerging disease outbreaks. An implementation of the method is provided in the open‐source R package scanstatistics available on the Comprehensive R Archive Network.  相似文献

Recently many authors have worked on Wei bull process in the area of modelling and analysis. Much less work is done in the area of testing of hypothesis. In this article, some tests for testing the Poisson process against a class of Wei bull process based on the conditional distribution of observations given the sufficient statistic, are proposed. The percentage points of the distributions of the proposed test statistics are simulated. The powers of the tests under alternatives are computed by Monte Carlo method. It is seen that the suggested tests perform well for decreasing intensities.  相似文献

A common feature for compound Poisson and Katz distributions is that both families may be viewed as generalizations of the Poisson law. In this paper, we present a unified approach in testing the fit to any distribution belonging to either of these families. The test involves the probability generating function, and it is shown to be consistent under general alternatives. The asymptotic null distribution of the test statistic is obtained, and an effective bootstrap procedure is employed in order to investigate the performance of the proposed test with real and simulated data. Comparisons with classical methods based on the empirical distribution function are also included.  相似文献

Several methods are available for generating confidence intervals for rate difference, rate ratio, or odds ratio, when comparing two independent binomial proportions or Poisson (exposure‐adjusted) incidence rates. Most methods have some degree of systematic bias in one‐sided coverage, so that a nominal 95% two‐sided interval cannot be assumed to have tail probabilities of 2.5% at each end, and any associated hypothesis test is at risk of inflated type I error rate. Skewness‐corrected asymptotic score methods have been shown to have superior equal‐tailed coverage properties for the binomial case. This paper completes this class of methods by introducing novel skewness corrections for the Poisson case and for odds ratio, with and without stratification. Graphical methods are used to compare the performance of these intervals against selected alternatives. The skewness‐corrected methods perform favourably in all situations—including those with small sample sizes or rare events—and the skewness correction should be considered essential for analysis of rate ratios. The stratified method is found to have excellent coverage properties for a fixed effects analysis. In addition, another new stratified score method is proposed, based on the t‐distribution, which is suitable for use in either a fixed effects or random effects analysis. By using a novel weighting scheme, this approach improves on conventional and modern meta‐analysis methods with weights that rely on crude estimation of stratum variances. In summary, this paper describes methods that are found to be robust for a wide range of applications in the analysis of rates.  相似文献

Goodness-of-fit tests based on the Cramér-von Mises statistics are given for the Poisson distribution. Power comparisons show that these statistics, particularly A2, give good overall tests of fit. Given a two-way contingency table in which the rows and columns both define ordinal variables, there are many ways in which the informal idea of positive association between those variables might be defined. This paper considers a variety of definitions expressed as inequality constraints on cross-product ratios. Logical relationships between the definitions are explored. Each definition can serve as a composite alternative against which the null hypothesis of no association may be tested. For a broad class of such alternatives a decomposition of the log-likelihood gives both an explicit likelihood ratio statistic and its asymptotic null hypothesis distribution. Results are derived for multinomial sampling and for fully conditional sampling with row and column totals fixed.  相似文献

Shiue and Bain proposed an approximate F statistic for testing equality of two gamma distribution scale parameters in presence of a common and unknown shape parameter. By generalizing Shiue and Bain's statistic we develop a new statistic for testing equality of L >= 2 gamma distribution scale parameters. We derive the distribution of the new statistic ESP for L = 2 and equal sample size situation. For other situations distribution of ESP is not known and test based on the ESP statistic has to be performed by using simulated critical values. We also derive a C(α) statistic CML and develop a likelihood ratio statistic, LR, two modified likelihood ratio statistics M and MLB and a quadratic statistic Q. The distribution of each of the statistics CML, LR, M, MLB and Q is asymptotically chi-square with L - 1 degrees of freedom. We then conducted a monte-carlo simulation study to compare the perfor- mance of the statistics ESP, LR, M, MLB, CML and Q in terms of size and power. The statistics LR, M, MLB and Q are in general liberal and do not show power advantage over other statistics. The statistic CML, based on its asymptotic chi-square distribution, in general, holds nominal level well. It is most powerful or nearly most powerful in most situations and is simple to use. Hence, we recommend the statistic CML for use in general. For better power the statistic ESP, based on its empirical distribution, is recommended for the special situation for which there is evidence in the data that λ1 < … < λL and n1 < … < nL, where λ1 …, λL are the scale parameters and n1,…, nL are the sample sizes.  相似文献

Maximality of ancillaries is important in both conditional inference without nuisance parameters and marginal inference with nuisance parameters. We extend results of Basu (1959) to the more classical former case and discuss the different nature of ancillaries in these two contexts. We apply the results to a general ancillary independent of a sufficient statistic. Finally, we discuss difficulties in finding necessary conditions for maximality.  相似文献

In many medical studies patients are nested or clustered within doctor. With many explanatory variables, variable selection with clustered data can be challenging. We propose a method for variable selection based on random forest that addresses clustered data through stratified binary splits. Our motivating example involves the detection orthopedic device components from a large pool of candidates, where each patient belongs to a surgeon. Simulations compare the performance of survival forests grown using the stratified logrank statistic to conventional and robust logrank statistics, as well as a method to select variables using a threshold value based on a variable's empirical null distribution. The stratified logrank test performs superior to conventional and robust methods when data are generated to have cluster-specific effects, and when cluster sizes are sufficiently large, perform comparably to the splitting alternatives in the absence of cluster-specific effects. Thresholding was effective at distinguishing between important and unimportant variables.  相似文献

This paper discusses recovery of information regarding logistic regression parameters in cases when maximum likelihood estimates of some parameters are infinite. An algorithm for detecting such cases and characterizing the divergence of the parameter estimates is presented. A method for fitting the remaining parameters is also presented . All of these methods rely only on sufficient statistics rather than less aggregated quantities, as required for inference according to the method of Kolassa & Tanner (1994). These results are applied to approximate conditional inference via saddlepoint methods. Specifically, the double saddlepoint method of Skovgaard (1987) is adapted to the case when the solution to the saddlepoint equations exists as a point at infinity  相似文献

In stratified otolaryngologic (or ophthalmologic) studies, the misleading results may be obtained when ignoring the confounding effect and the correlation between responses from two ears. Score statistic and Wald-type statistic are presented to test equality in a stratified bilateral-sample design, and their corresponding sample size formulae are given. Score statistic for testing homogeneity of difference between two proportions and score confidence interval of the common difference of two proportions in a stratified bilateral-sample design are derived. Empirical results show that (1) score statistic and Wald-type statistic based on dependence model assumption outperform other statistics in terms of the type I error rates; (2) score confidence interval demonstrates reasonably good coverage property; (3) sample size formula via Wald-type statistic under dependence model assumption is rather accurate. A real example is used to illustrate the proposed methodologies.  相似文献

A multivariate generalized Poisson regression model based on the multivariate generalized Poisson distribution is defined and studied. The regression model can be used to describe a count data with any type of dispersion. The model allows for both positive and negative correlation between any pair of the response variables. The parameters of the regression model are estimated by using the maximum likelihood method. Some test statistics are discussed, and two numerical data sets are used to illustrate the applications of the multivariate count data regression model.  相似文献
