We consider Khamis' (1960) Laguerre expansion with gamma weight function as a class of “near-gamma” priors (K-prior) to obtain the Bayes predictor of a finite population mean under the Poisson regression superpopulation model using Zellner's balanced loss function (BLF). Kullback–Leibler (K-L) distance between gamma and some K-priors is tabulated to examine the quantitative prior robustness. Some numerical investigations are also conducted to illustrate the effects of a change in skewness and/or kurtosis on the Bayes predictor and the corresponding minimal Bayes predictive expected loss (MBPEL). Loss robustness with respect to the class of BLFs is also examined in terms of relative savings loss (RSL).  相似文献

Randomized response (RR) techniques are used to gather information of a sensitive nature. Optimal sampling strategies for estimating a finite population total under a superpopulation model have been derived by utilizing auxiliary information suitably in constructing the RR techniques.  相似文献

In this paper we have proposed two transformed ratio type estimators for the populaion mean in presence of non-response. The proporties of these estimators are studied in the case of a Unite population and also through the superpopulation model Approach.  相似文献

Results in five areas of survey sampling dealing with the choice of the sampling design are reviewed. In Section 2, the results and discussions surrounding the purposive selection methods suggested by linear regression superpopulation models are reviewed. In Section 3, similar models to those in the previous section are considered; however, random sampling designs are considered and attention is focused on the optimal choice of πj. Then in Section 4, systematic sampling methods obtained under autocorrelated superpopulation models are reviewed. The next section examines minimax sampling designs. The work in the final section is based solely on the randomization. In Section 6 methods of sample selection which yield inclusion probabilities πj = n/N and πij = n(n - 1)/N(N - 1), but for which there are fewer than NCn possible samples, are mentioned briefly.  相似文献

The authors consider a finite population ρ = {(Yk, xk), k = 1,…,N} conforming to a linear superpopulation model with unknown heteroscedastic errors, the variances of which are values of a smooth enough function of the auxiliary variable X for their nonparametric estimation. They describe a method of the Chambers‐Dunstan type for estimation of the distribution of {Yk, k = 1,…, N} from a sample drawn from without replacement, and determine the asymptotic distribution of its estimation error. They also consider estimation of its mean squared error in particular cases, evaluating both the analytical estimator derived by “plugging‐in” the asymptotic variance, and a bootstrap approach that is also applicable to estimation of parameters other than mean squared error. These proposed methods are compared with some common competitors in simulation studies.  相似文献

For the hierarchical Poisson and gamma model, we calculate the Bayes posterior estimator of the parameter of the Poisson distribution under Stein's loss function which penalizes gross overestimation and gross underestimation equally and the corresponding Posterior Expected Stein's Loss (PESL). We also obtain the Bayes posterior estimator of the parameter under the squared error loss and the corresponding PESL. Moreover, we obtain the empirical Bayes estimators of the parameter of the Poisson distribution with a conjugate gamma prior by two methods. In numerical simulations, we have illustrated: The two inequalities of the Bayes posterior estimators and the PESLs; the moment estimators and the Maximum Likelihood Estimators (MLEs) are consistent estimators of the hyperparameters; the goodness-of-fit of the model to the simulated data. The numerical results indicate that the MLEs are better than the moment estimators when estimating the hyperparameters. Finally, we exploit the attendance data on 314 high school juniors from two urban high schools to illustrate our theoretical studies.  相似文献

Measuring a statistical model's complexity is important for model criticism and comparison. However, it is unclear how to do this for hierarchical models due to uncertainty about how to count the random effects. The authors develop a complexity measure for generalized linear hierarchical models based on linear model theory. They demonstrate the new measure for binomial and Poisson observables modeled using various hierarchical structures, including a longitudinal model and an areal‐data model having both spatial clustering and pure heterogeneity random effects. They compare their new measure to a Bayesian index of model complexity, the effective number pD of parameters (Spiegelhalter, Best, Carlin & van der Linde 2002); the comparisons are made in the binomial and Poisson cases via simulation and two real data examples. The two measures are usually close, but differ markedly in some instances where pD is arguably inappropriate. Finally, the authors show how the new measure can be used to approach the difficult task of specifying prior distributions for variance components, and in the process cast further doubt on the commonly‐used vague inverse gamma prior.  相似文献

A theory of equivariant prediction is developed for predicting the population total in finite populations. Minimum risk equivariant predictors (MREP) are derived under the location, scale and locationscale superpopulation models. Under the general linear model, it is shown that the best(linear) unbiased predictor (B(L)UP) is an MREP.  相似文献

This paper describes procedure for constructing a vector of regression weights. Under the regression superpopulation model, the ridge regression estimator that has minimum model mean squared error is derived. Through a simulation study, we compare the ridge regression weights, regression weights, quadratic programming weights, and raking ratio weights. The ridge regression procedure with weights bounded by zero performed very well.  相似文献

We review Bayesian analysis of hierarchical non-standard Poisson regression models with an emphasis on microlevel heterogeneity and macrolevel autocorrelation. For the former case, we confirm that negative binomial regression usually accounts for microlevel heterogeneity (overdispersion) satisfactorily; for the latter case, we apply the simple first-order Markov transition model to conveniently capture the macrolevel autocorrelation which often arises from temporal and/or spatial count data, rather than attaching complex random effects directly to the regression parameters. Specifically, we extend the hierarchical (multilevel) Poisson model into negative binomial models with macrolevel autocorrelation using restricted gamma mixture with unit mean and Markov transition covariate created from preceding residuals. We prove a mild sufficient condition for posterior propriety under flat prior for the interesting fixed effects. Our methodology is implemented by analyzing the Baltic sea peracarids diurnal activity data published in the marine biology and ecology literature.  相似文献

Ecological Momentary Assessment is an emerging method of data collection in behavioral research that may be used to capture the times of repeated behavioral events on electronic devices, and information on subjects' psychological states through the electronic administration of questionnaires at times selected from a probability-based design as well as the event times. A method for fitting a mixed Poisson point process model is proposed for the impact of partially-observed, time-varying covariates on the timing of repeated behavioral events. A random frailty is included in the point-process intensity to describe variation among subjects in baseline rates of event occurrence. Covariate coefficients are estimated using estimating equations constructed by replacing the integrated intensity in the Poisson score equations with a design-unbiased estimator. An estimator is also proposed for the variance of the random frailties. Our estimators are robust in the sense that no model assumptions are made regarding the distribution of the time-varying covariates or the distribution of the random effects. However, subject effects are estimated under gamma frailties using an approximate hierarchical likelihood. The proposed approach is illustrated using smoking data.  相似文献

An often-used scenario in marketing is that of individuals purchasing in a Poisson manner with their purchasing rates distributed gamma across the population of customers. Ehrenberg (1959) introduced the marketing community to this story and the resulting negative binomial distribution (NBD), and during the past 30 years the NBD model has been shown to work quite well. But the basic gamma/Poisson assumptions lack some face validity. In many product categories, customers purchase more regularly than the exponential. There are some individuals who will never purchase. The purpose of this article is to review briefly the literature that addresses these and other issues. The tractable results presented arise when the basic gamma/Poisson assumptions are relaxed one issue at a time. Some conjectures will be made about the robustness of the NBD when multiple deviations occur together. The NBD may work, but there are still opportunities for working on variations of the NBD theme.  相似文献

We analyse a combination of errant count data subject to under‐reported counts and inerrant count data to estimate multiple Poisson rates and reporting probabilities of cervical cancer for four European countries. Our analysis uses a Bayesian hierarchical model. Using a simulation study, we demonstrate the efficacy of our new simultaneous inference method and compare the utility of our method with an empirical Bayes approach developed by Fader and Hardie (J. Appl. Statist., 2000).  相似文献

In life-testing and survival analysis, sometimes the components are arranged in series or parallel system and the number of components is initially unknown. Thus, the number of components, say Z, is considered as random with an appropriate probability mass function. In this paper, we model the survival data with baseline distribution as Weibull and the distribution of Z as generalized Poisson, giving rise to four parameters in the model: increasing, decreasing, bathtub and upside bathtub failure rates. Two examples are provided and the maximum-likelihood estimation of the parameters is studied. Rao's score test is developed to compare the results with the exponential Poisson model studied by Kus [17] and the exponential-generalized Poisson distribution with baseline distribution as exponential and the distribution of Z as generalized Poisson. Simulation studies are carried out to examine the performance of the estimates.  相似文献

We develop two Bayesian generalizations of the Poisson integer-valued autoregressive model. The AdINAR(1) model accounts for overdispersed data by means of an innovation process whose marginal distributions are finite mixtures, while the DP-INAR(1) model is a hierarchical extension involving a Dirichlet process, which is capable of modeling a latent pattern of heterogeneity in the distribution of the innovations rates. The probabilistic forecasting capabilities of both models are put to test in the analysis of crime data in Pittsburgh, with favorable results.  相似文献

Suppose that a finite population consists of N distinct units. Associated with the ith unit is a polychotomous response vector, d i , and a vector of auxiliary variable x i . The values x i ’s are known for the entire population but d i ’s are known only for the units selected in the sample. The problem is to estimate the finite population proportion vector P. One of the fundamental questions in finite population sampling is how to make use of the complete auxiliary information effectively at the estimation stage. In this article a predictive estimator is proposed which incorporates the auxiliary information at the estimation stage by invoking a superpopulation model. However, the use of such estimators is often criticized since the working superpopulation model may not be correct. To protect the predictive estimator from the possible model failure, a nonparametric regression model is considered in the superpopulation. The asymptotic properties of the proposed estimator are derived and also a bootstrap-based hybrid re-sampling method for estimating the variance of the proposed estimator is developed. Results of a simulation study are reported on the performances of the predictive estimator and its re-sampling-based variance estimator from the model-based viewpoint. Finally, a data survey related to the opinions of 686 individuals on the cause of addiction is used for an empirical study to investigate the performance of the nonparametric predictive estimator from the design-based viewpoint.  相似文献

A two-stage hierarchical model for analysis of discrete data with extra-Poisson variation is examined. The model consists of a Poisson distribution with a mixing lognormal distribution for the mean. A method of approximate maximum likelihood estimation of the parameters is proposed. The method uses the EM algorithm and approximations to facilitate its implementation are derived. Approximate standard errors of the estimates are provided and a numerical example is used to illustrate the method.  相似文献

In count data models, overdispersion of the dependent variable can be incorporated into the model if a heterogeneity term is added into the mean parameter of the Poisson distribution. We use a nonparametric estimation for the heterogeneity density based on a squared Kth-order polynomial expansion, that we generalize for panel data. A numerical illustration using an insurance dataset is discussed. Even if some statistical analyses showed no clear differences between these new models and the standard Poisson with gamma random effects, we show that the choice of the random effects distribution has a significant influence for interpreting our results.  相似文献

Admissibility of linear predictors for the linear quantity Qy is investigated in a superpopulation model with respect to some inequality constraints. Necessary and sufficient conditions for a linear predictor to be admissible in the class of homogeneous linear predictors and the class of inhomogeneous linear predictors are obtained, respectively, under matrix loss function.  相似文献

Admissibility of linear predictors of the linear quantity Qy is investigated under a general linear regression superpopulation model with some inequality constraints. The relation between admissible homogeneous and inhomogeneous linear predictors is characterized. Further, necessary and sufficient conditions for a linear predictor to be admissible in two cases of inequality constraints in the classes of homogeneous and inhomogeneous linear predictors are given, respectively.  相似文献
