Generalized discrete distributions such as the double Poisson and the double binomial family of Lagrange distributions are considered when the probabilities are inflated by a constant λ (0 < λ < 1). In each of the above cases, the effect of inflation on the variance is discussed. Also, the Bayesian estimate of inflation as well as those of the parameters are attempted. A maximum likelihood method is also suggested.  相似文献

In this paper we study the minimum variance unbiased estimation in the modified power series distribution introduced by the author (1974a). Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of minimum variance unbiased estimate (MVUE) of the parameter based on sufficient statistics are obtained. These results are, then, applied to obtain MVUE of θr (r ≥ 1) for the generalized negative binomial and the decapitated generalized negative binomial distributions (Jain and Consul, 1971). Similar estimates are obtained for the generalized Poisson (Consul and Jain, 1973a) and the generalized logarithmic series distributions (Jain and Gupta, 1973). Several of the well-known results follow trivially from the results obtained here.  相似文献

The average likelihood, defined as the integral of the like-lihood function over the parameter space, has been used as a criterion for model selection The form of the average likelihood considered uses a uniform prior. An approximation is presented based on fiducial distributions. The sampling distributions of the average likelihood and its fiducial approximation are derived for cases of sampling from one parameter members of the general-ized gamma distributions.  相似文献

This paper compares the five-parameter beta generalized gamma (BGG) distribution to the three-parameter generalized gamma (GG). Both distributions include the four standard hazard shapes that we believe is an important property for any parametric family. For several BGG distributions, we select matching GGs and compute the Kullback-Liebler distance, observing remarkable agreement. We explore the beta parameters' influence on the matched GG parameters, detecting a strong connection between the distributions. Lastly, we compare the distributions using two real-data examples. We conclude from these comparisons that the BGG is not likely to be more useful for analytical purposes than the simpler GG.  相似文献

The paper obtains a discrete analogue of the normal distribution as the distribution that is characterized by maximum entropy, specified mean and variance, and integer support on (− ∞, ∞). Two alternative characterizations are given, firstly as the distribution of the difference of two related Heine distributions, and secondly as a weighted distribution.  相似文献

A new four-parameter class of generalized Lindley (GL) distribution called the beta-generalized Lindley (BGL) distribution is proposed. This class of distributions contains the beta-Lindley, GL and Lindley distributions as special cases. Expansion of the density of the BGL distribution is obtained. The properties of these distributions, including hazard function, reverse hazard function, monotonicity property, shapes, moments, reliability, mean deviations, Bonferroni and Lorenz curves are derived. Measures of uncertainty such as Renyi entropy and s-entropy as well as Fisher information are presented. Method of maximum likelihood is used to estimate the parameters of the BGL and related distributions. Finally, real data examples are discussed to illustrate the applicability of this class of models.  相似文献

A general family of univariate distributions generated by beta random variables, proposed by Jones, has been discussed recently in the literature. This family of distributions possesses great flexibility while fitting symmetric as well as skewed models with varying tail weights. In a similar vein, we define here a family of univariate distributions generated by Stacy’s generalized gamma variables. For these two families of univariate distributions, we discuss maximum entropy characterizations under suitable constraints. Based on these characterizations, an expected ratio of quantile densities is proposed for the discrimination of members of these two broad families of distributions. Several special cases of these results are then highlighted. An alternative to the usual method of moments is also proposed for the estimation of the parameters, and the form of these estimators is particularly amenable to these two families of distributions.  相似文献

It is the aim of this note to point out that the double gamma difference distribution recently introduced by [Augustyniak M, and Doray, LG. Inference for a leptokurtic symmetric family of distributions represented by the difference of two gamma variables. J Statist Comput Simul. 2012;82:1621–1634] is well known in financial econometrics: it is the symmetric variance gamma family of distributions. We trace back to the various origins of this distribution. In addition, we consider in some detail the difference of two independent gamma distributed random variables with different shape parameters.  相似文献

In certain applications involving discrete data, it is sometimes found that X = 0 is observed with a frequency significantly higher than predicted by the assumed model. Zero inflated Poisson, binomial and negative binomial models have been employed in some clinical trials and in some regression analysis problems.

In this paper, we study the zero inflated modified power series distributions (IMPSD) which include among others the generalized Poisson and the generalized negative binomial distributions and hence the Poisson, binomial and negative binomial distributions. The structural properties along with the distribution of the sum of independent IMPSD variables are studied. The maximum likelihood estimation of the parameters of the model is examined and the variance-covariance matrix of the estimators is obtained. Finally, examples are presented for the generalized Poisson distribution to illustrate the results.  相似文献

In t h i s note mixture models are used to represent overdispersion relative to Poisson or binomial distributions. We flnd a sufflclent condition on the mixing distribution underich the detection of mixture departures from the Poisson or binomial adrnits a locally most powerful unbiased test. The conditions specify plynoria: relations between the variance and mean of Le glxing distribution.  相似文献

In this paper, distributions of items sampled inversely in clusters are derived. In particular, negative binomial type of distributions are obtained and their properties are studied. A logarithmic series type of distribution is also defined as a limiting form of the obtained generalized negative binomial distribution.  相似文献

Log‐normal linear regression models are popular in many fields of research. Bayesian estimation of the conditional mean of the dependent variable is problematic as many choices of the prior for the variance (on the log‐scale) lead to posterior distributions with no finite moments. We propose a generalized inverse Gaussian prior for this variance and derive the conditions on the prior parameters that yield posterior distributions of the conditional mean of the dependent variable with finite moments up to a pre‐specified order. The conditions depend on one of the three parameters of the suggested prior; the other two have an influence on inferences for small and medium sample sizes. A second goal of this paper is to discuss how to choose these parameters according to different criteria including the optimization of frequentist properties of posterior means.  相似文献

This paper considers further mixture formulations of the bivariate negative binomial (BNB) distribution of Edwards and Gurland (1961) and Subrahmaniam (1966). These formulations and some known ones are applied (1) to obtain a bivariate generalized negative binomial (BGNB) distribution of Bhattacharya (1966), (2) to establish a connection between the accident-proneness models given by the BNB, BGNB and Bhattacharya's bivariate distributions, and (3) to compute the grade correlation and distribution function of the Wicksell-Kibble bivariate gamma distribution.  相似文献

In this paper we consider a binary, monotone system whose component states are dependent through the possible occurrence of independent common shocks, i.e. shocks that destroy several components at once. The individual failure of a component is also thought of as a shock. Such systems can be used to model common cause failures in reliability analysis. The system may be a technological one, or a human being. It is observed until it fails or dies. At this instant, the set of failed components and the failure time of the system are noted. The failure times of the components are not known. These are the so-called autopsy data of the system. For the case of independent components, i.e. no common shocks, Meilijson (1981), Nowik (1990), Antoine et al . (1993) and GTsemyr (1998) discuss the corresponding identifiability problem, i.e. whether the component life distributions can be determined from the distribution of the observed data. Assuming a model where autopsy data is known to be enough for identifia bility, Meilijson (1994) goes beyond the identifiability question and into maximum likelihood estimation of the parameters of the component lifetime distributions based on empirical autopsy data from a sample of several systems. He also considers life-monitoring of some components and conditional life-monitoring of some other. Here a corresponding Bayesian approach is presented for the shock model. Due to prior information one advantage of this approach is that the identifiability problem represents no obstacle. The motivation for introducing the shock model is that the autopsy model is of special importance when components can not be tested separately because it is difficult to reproduce the conditions prevailing in the functioning system. In Gåsemyr & Natvig (1997) we treat the Bayesian approach to life-monitoring and conditional life- monitoring of components  相似文献

In this paper we present first order autoregressive (AR(1)) time series with negative binomial and geometric marginals. These processes are the discrete analogues of the gamma and exponential processes introduced by Sim (1990). Many properties of the processes discussed here, such as autocorrelation, regression and joint distributions, are studied.  相似文献

This paper addresses the largest and the smallest observations, at the times when a new record of either kind (upper or lower) occurs, which are it called the current upper and lower record, respectively. We examine the entropy properties of these statistics, especially the difference between entropy of upper and lower bounds of record coverage. The results are presented for some common parametric families of distributions. Several upper and lower bounds, in terms of the entropy of parent distribution, for the entropy of current records are obtained. It is shown that mutual information, as well as Kullback–Leibler distance between the endpoints of record coverage, Kullback–Leibler distance between data distribution, and current records, are all distribution-free.  相似文献

Generalized linear models are well-established generalizations of the linear models used for regression and analysis of variance. They allow flexible mean structures and general distributions, other than the linear link and normal response assumed in regression. Further enhancements using ideas from multivariate analysis improve power and precision by modelling dependencies between response variables. This paper focuses on the specific case of regression models for bivariate Bernoulli responses and investigates their analysis using a Bayesian approach. The important problem of renal arterial obstruction is considered, as a medical application of these models.  相似文献

The transformed chi-square family includes many common one-parameter continuous distributions. In that family, we give conditions under which a given function of the mean admits a minimum variance unbiased estimator and an orthogonal expansion for this estimator in terms of the generalized Laguerre polynomials. We show that such expansion is useful for obtaining bounds for the variance and for the study of the asymptotic properties of the unbiased estimators.  相似文献

While analyzing 2 × 2 contingency tables, the log odds ratio for measuring the strength of association is often approximated by a normal distribution with some variance. We show that the expression of that variance needs to be modified in the presence of correlation between two binomial distributions of the contingency table. In the present paper, we derive a correlation-adjusted variance of the limiting normal distribution of log odds ratio. We also propose a correlation adjusted test based on the standard odds ratio for analyzing matched-pair studies and any other study settings that induce correlated binary outcomes. We demonstrate that our proposed test outperforms the classical McNemar’s test. Simulation studies show the gains in power are especially manifest when sample size is small and strong correlation is present. Two examples of real data sets are used to demonstrate that the proposed method may lead to conclusions significantly different from those reached using McNemar’s test.  相似文献
