Using the known coefficient of variation of the study character, generalized and regression-type estimators for the population mean using two phase sampling in the presence of non response were proposed and their properties have been studied. The conditions under which the proposed estimators are more efficient than the relevant estimators have been obtained. The empirical studies were given in the support of the problems in the case of positive and negative correlation between the study and the auxiliary characters which show the increase in the efficiency of the proposed estimators using known coefficient of variation of the study character with respect to the relevant estimators.  相似文献

Improved two phase sampling exponential ratio and product type estimators for population mean using known coefficient of variation of study character in the presence of non response have been proposed and their properties are studied under large sample approximation. The proposed estimators are compared with the other existing estimators by using the MSE criterion and the conditions under which the proposed estimators perform better are obtained. An empirical study is also given to judge the performance of the proposed estimators. At the end, simulation studies have been carried out to verify the superiority to the proposed estimators.  相似文献

In the present article, we propose the generalized ratio-type and generalized ratio-exponential-type estimators for population mean in adaptive cluster sampling (ACS) under modified Horvitz-Thompson estimator. The proposed estimators utilize the auxiliary information in combination of conventional measures (coefficient of skewness, coefficient of variation, correlation coefficient, covariance, coefficient of kurtosis) and robust measures (tri-mean, Hodges-Lehmann, mid-range) to increase the efficiency of the estimators. Properties of the proposed estimators are discussed using the first order of approximation. The simulation study is conducted to evaluate the performances of the estimators. The results reveal that the proposed estimators are more efficient than competing estimators for population mean in ACS under both modified Hansen-Hurwitz and Horvitz-Thompson estimators.  相似文献

We propose an improved class of exponential ratio type estimators for coefficient of variation (CV) of a finite population in simple and stratified random sampling using two auxiliary variables under two-phase sampling scheme. We examine the properties of the proposed estimators based on first order of approximation. The proposed class of estimators is more efficient than the usual sample CV estimator, ratio estimator, exponential ratio estimator, usual difference estimator and modified difference type estimator. We also use real data sets for numerical comparisons.  相似文献

Improved estimation of the coefficient of variation   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
The problem of estimating the coefficient of variation (?) is considered when it is a priori suspected that ?=?,. Estimators based on the pre-test principle are proposed, and their large-sample properties are studied and compared. The relative dominance of the estimators is presented. Interestingly, the proposed estimators perform better than the classical estimator over a wider range. More importantly, the size for the preliminary test of the estimators is reasonable. An example is also given.  相似文献

The stability of a slightly modified version of the usual jackknife variance estimator is evaluated exactly in small samples under a suitable linear regression model and compared with that of two different linearization variance estimators. Depending on the degree of heteroscedasticity of the error variance in the model, the stability of the jackknife variance estimator is found to be somewhat comparable to that of one or the other of the linearization variance estimators under conditions especially favorable to ratio estimation (i.e., regression approximately through the origin with a relatively small coefficient of variation in the x population). When these conditions do not hold, however, the jackknife variance estimator is found to be less stable than either of the linearization variance estimators.  相似文献

We propose an estimator for the finite population mean utilizing known coefficient of variation of the study character in case of quantitative sensitive variable considering a randomization mechanism on the second call that provides privacy protection to the respondents to get truthful information. We also propose generalized ratio- and regression-type estimators under two-phase sampling scheme. The conditions under which the proposed estimators are more efficient than the relevant estimators under scrambled response model have been obtained. An empirical study is carried out to evaluate performances of the estimators.  相似文献

Estimating parameters in heavy-tailed distribution plays a central role in extreme value theory. It is well known that classical estimators based on the first order asymptotics such as the Hill, rank-based and QQ estimators are seriously biased under finer second order regular variation framework. To reduce the bias, many authors proposed the so-called second order reduced bias estimators for both first and second order tail parameters. In this work, estimation of parameters in heavy-tailed distributions are studied under the second order regular variation framework when the second order parameter in the distribution tail is known. This is motivated in large part by a recent work by the authors showing that the second order tail parameter is known for a large class of popular random difference equations (for example, ARCH models). The focus is on least squares estimators that generalize rank-based and QQ estimators. Though other possible estimators are also briefly discussed, the least squares estimators are most simple to use and perform best for finite samples in Monte Carlo simulations.  相似文献

In this paper we present two new classes of estimators of parameters of regular variation, one based on the empirical distribution function and the other on the empirical characteristic function. They achieve the same rates of mean square error convergence as the estimators proposed by Hall (1982). The estimator based on the empirical characteristic function, unlike the other estimators, utilises the whole sample and not just a few extreme order statistics.  相似文献

Several researchers considered various interval estimators for estimating the population coefficient of variation (CV) of symmetric and skewed distributions. Since they considered at different times and under different simulation conditions, their performances are not comparable as a whole. In this article, an attempt has been made to review some existing estimators along with some proposed methods and compare them under the same simulation condition. In particular, we have considered Hendricks and Robey, Mckay, Miller, Sharma and Krishna, Curto and Pinto, and also some bootstrap proposed interval estimators for estimating the population CV. A simulation study has been conducted to compare the performance of the estimators. Both average widths and coverage probabilities are considered as a criterion of the good estimators. Two real life health related data sets are analyzed to illustrate the findings of the article. Based on the simulation study, some possible good interval estimators have been recommended for the practitioners.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose and evaluate the performance of different parametric and nonparametric estimators for the population coefficient of variation considering Ranked Set Sampling (RSS) under normal distribution. The performance of the proposed estimators was assessed based on the bias and relative efficiency provided by a Monte Carlo simulation study. An application in anthropometric measurements data from a human population is also presented. The results showed that the proposed estimators via RSS present an expressively lower mean squared error when compared to the usual estimator, obtained via Simple Random Sampling. Also, it was verified the superiority of the maximum likelihood estimator, given the necessary assumptions of normality and perfect ranking are met.  相似文献

The authors propose to estimate nonlinear small area population parameters by using the empirical Bayes (best) method, based on a nested error model. They focus on poverty indicators as particular nonlinear parameters of interest, but the proposed methodology is applicable to general nonlinear parameters. They use a parametric bootstrap method to estimate the mean squared error of the empirical best estimators. They also study small sample properties of these estimators by model‐based and design‐based simulation studies. Results show large reductions in mean squared error relative to direct area‐specific estimators and other estimators obtained by “simulated” censuses. The authors also apply the proposed method to estimate poverty incidences and poverty gaps in Spanish provinces by gender with mean squared errors estimated by the mentioned parametric bootstrap method. For the Spanish data, results show a significant reduction in coefficient of variation of the proposed empirical best estimators over direct estimators for practically all domains. In this paper, we discuss an estimation problem of the mean in the inverse Gaussian distribution with a known coefficient of variation. Two types of linear estimators for the mean, the linear minimum variance unbiased estimator and the linear minimum mean squared error estimator, are constructed by using the squared error loss function and their properties are examined. It is observed that, for small samples the performance of the proposed estimators is better than that of the maximum likelihood estimator, when the coefficient of variation is large.  相似文献

An improved asymptotic estimation theory for the coefficient of variation γ is developed under the homogeneity hypothesis that several coefficients of variation are the same. Assuming that homogeneity holds, it is advantageous to combine the data to estimate the common coefficient of variation. However, the combined estimator becomes inconsistent when the equality of the hypothesis does not hold. In this situation, estimators based on pretest and (James and Stein, 1961. Estimation with quadratic loss. Proceeding of the Fourth Berkeley Symposium on Mathematical Statistics and Probability, pp. 361–379) principles are proposed. Asymptotic properties of the shrinkage estimator, positive-part and pretest estimators are discussed and compared with the standard and combined estimators. It is demonstrated that the positive part estimator utilizes the sample and nonsample information in a superior way relative to the ordinary shrinkage estimator.  相似文献

This paper suggests censored maximum likelihood estimators for the first‐ and second‐order parameters of a heavy‐tailed distribution by incorporating the second‐order regular variation into the censored likelihood function. This approach is different from the bias‐reduced maximum likelihood method proposed by Feuerverger and Hall in 1999. The paper derives the joint asymptotic limit for the first‐ and second‐order parameters under a weaker assumption. The paper also demonstrates through a simulation study that the suggested estimator for the first‐order parameter is better than the estimator proposed by Feuerverger and Hall although these two estimators have the same asymptotic variances.  相似文献

We discuss the impact of tuning parameter selection uncertainty in the context of shrinkage estimation and propose a methodology to account for problems arising from this issue: Transferring established concepts from model averaging to shrinkage estimation yields the concept of shrinkage averaging estimation (SAE) which reflects the idea of using weighted combinations of shrinkage estimators with different tuning parameters to improve overall stability, predictive performance and standard errors of shrinkage estimators. Two distinct approaches for an appropriate weight choice, both of which are inspired by concepts from the recent literature of model averaging, are presented: The first approach relates to an optimal weight choice with regard to the predictive performance of the final weighted estimator and its implementation can be realized via quadratic programming. The second approach has a fairly different motivation and considers the construction of weights via a resampling experiment. Focusing on Ridge, Lasso and Random Lasso estimators, the properties of the proposed shrinkage averaging estimators resulting from these strategies are explored by means of Monte-Carlo studies and are compared to traditional approaches where the tuning parameter is simply selected via cross validation criteria. The results show that the proposed SAE methodology can improve an estimators’ overall performance and reveal and incorporate tuning parameter uncertainty. As an illustration, selected methods are applied to some recent data from a study on leadership behavior in life science companies.  相似文献

In this study, new unbiased and nonlinear estimators based on order statistics are proposed for the family of symmetric location-scale distributions and these estimators can be computed from both uncensored and symmetric doubly Type II censored samples. In addition, other relevant unbiased estimators are proposed to estimate standard deviations of these new estimators. A simulation study has been performed to evaluate the performance of the new estimators compared to BLU estimators for small sample sizes. As a result of the simulation study, the new estimators proposed for the location-scale family in general performed nearly as good as BLU estimators. Furthermore, the computational advantage of the proposed estimators over BLU and ML estimators are worthy of notice. In addition, these new estimators have been applied to real data, and the estimation results obtained have been compatible with those of BLUE methods.  相似文献

In this study, as alternatives to the maximum likelihood (ML) and the frequency estimators, we propose robust estimators for the parameters of Zipf and Marshall–Olkin Zipf distributions. A small simulation study is given to illustrate the performance of the proposed estimators. We apply the proposed estimators to a real data set from cancer research to illustrate the performance of the proposed estimators over the ML, moments and frequency estimators. We observe that the robust estimators have superiority over the frequency estimators based on classical sample mean.  相似文献

This article considers identification and estimation of social network models in a system of simultaneous equations. We show that, with or without row-normalization of the social adjacency matrix, the network model has different equilibrium implications, needs different identification conditions, and requires different estimation strategies. When the adjacency matrix is not row-normalized, the variation in the Bonacich centrality across nodes in a network can be used as an IV to identify social interaction effects and improve estimation efficiency. The number of such IVs depends on the number of networks. When there are many networks in the data, the proposed estimators may have an asymptotic bias due to the presence of many IVs. We propose a bias-correction procedure for the many-instrument bias. Simulation experiments show that the bias-corrected estimators perform well in finite samples. We also provide an empirical example to illustrate the proposed estimation procedure.  相似文献

Compromise Estimators between the generalized Bayes and Bayes estimators with respect to conjugate gamma priors under entropy loss are proposed. The proposed compromise estimators are compared with some suitable generalized Bayes estimators in terms of their frequentist risk performance. Also the RSL approach will be employed to compare the proposed compromise estimators and some admissible generalized Bayes estimators in terms of their Bayes risk performance.  相似文献
