In the linear regression model with elliptical errors, a shrinkage ridge estimator is proposed. In this regard, the restricted ridge regression estimator under sub-space restriction is improved by incorporating a general function which satisfies Taylor’s series expansion. Approximate quadratic risk function of the proposed shrinkage ridge estimator is evaluated in the elliptical regression model. A Monte Carlo simulation study and analysis based on a real data example are considered for performance analysis. It is evident from the numerical results that the shrinkage ridge estimator performs better than both unrestricted and restricted estimators in the multivariate t-regression model, for some specific cases.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce two kinds of new restricted estimators called restricted modified Liu estimator and restricted modified ridge estimator based on prior information for the vector of parameters in a linear regression model with linear restrictions. Furthermore, the performance of the proposed estimators in mean squares error matrix sense is derived and compared. Finally, a numerical example and a Monte Carlo simulation are given to illustrate some of the theoretical results.  相似文献

In this article, the positive-rule Stein-type ridge estimator (PSRE) is introduced for the parameters in a multiple linear regression model with spherically symmetric error distributions when it is suspected that the parameter vector may be restricted to a linear manifold. The bias and quadratic risk functions of the PSRE are derived and compared with some related competing estimators in literatures. Particularly, some sufficient conditions are derived for superiority of the PSRE over the ordinary ridge estimator, the restricted ridge estimator and the preliminary test ridge estimator, respectively. Furthermore, some graphical results are provided to illustrate some of the theoretical results.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we consider the estimation problem of the parameter vector in the linear regression model with heteroscedastic errors. First, under heteroscedastic errors, we study the performance of shrinkage-type estimators and their performance as compared to theunrestricted and restricted least squares estimators. In order to accommodate the heteroscedastic structure, we generalize an identity which is useful in deriving the risk function. Thanks to the established identity, we prove that shrinkage estimators dominate the unrestricted estimator. Finally, we explore the performance of high-dimensional heteroscedastic regression estimator as compared to classical LASSO and shrinkage estimators.  相似文献

Aalen's nonparametric additive model in which the regression coefficients are assumed to be unspecified functions of time is a flexible alternative to Cox's proportional hazards model when the proportionality assumption is in doubt. In this paper, we incorporate a general linear hypothesis into the estimation of the time‐varying regression coefficients. We combine unrestricted least squares estimators and estimators that are restricted by the linear hypothesis and produce James‐Stein‐type shrinkage estimators of the regression coefficients. We develop the asymptotic joint distribution of such restricted and unrestricted estimators and use this to study the relative performance of the proposed estimators via their integrated asymptotic distributional risks. We conduct Monte Carlo simulations to examine the relative performance of the estimators in terms of their integrated mean square errors. We also compare the performance of the proposed estimators with a recently devised LASSO estimator as well as with ridge‐type estimators both via simulations and data on the survival of primary billiary cirhosis patients.  相似文献

In the context of ridge regression, the estimation of shrinkage parameter plays an important role in analyzing data. Many efforts have been put to develop the computation of risk function in different full-parametric ridge regression approaches using eigenvalues and then bringing an efficient estimator of shrinkage parameter based on them. In this respect, the estimation of shrinkage parameter is neglected for semiparametric regression model. Not restricted, but the main focus of this approach is to develop necessary tools for computing the risk function of regression coefficient based on the eigenvalues of design matrix in semiparametric regression. For this purpose the differencing methodology is applied. We also propose a new estimator for shrinkage parameter which is of harmonic type mean of ridge estimators. It is shown that this estimator performs better than all the existing ones for the regression coefficient. For our proposal, a Monte Carlo simulation study and a real dataset analysis related to housing attributes are conducted to illustrate the efficiency of shrinkage estimators based on the minimum risk and mean squared error criteria.  相似文献

In this paper, the restricted almost unbiased ridge regression estimator and restricted almost unbiased Liu estimator are introduced for the vector of parameters in a multiple linear regression model with linear restrictions. The bias, variance matrices and mean square error (MSE) of the proposed estimators are derived and compared. It is shown that the proposed estimators will have smaller quadratic bias but larger variance than the corresponding competitors in literatures. However, they will respectively outperform the latter according to the MSE criterion under certain conditions. Finally, a simulation study and a numerical example are given to illustrate some of the theoretical results.  相似文献

This article primarily aims to put forward the linearized restricted ridge regression (LRRR) estimator in linear regression models. Two types of LRRR estimators are investigated under the PRESS criterion and the optimal LRRR estimators and the optimal restricted generalized ridge regression estimator are obtained. We apply the results to the Hald data and finally make a simulation study by using the method of McDonald and Galarneau.  相似文献

Multiple linear regression models are frequently used in predicting unknown values of the response variable y. In this case, a regression model's ability to produce an adequate prediction equation is of prime importance. This paper discusses the predictive performance of the r-k and r-d class estimators compared to ordinary least squares (OLS), principal components, ridge regression and Liu estimators and between each other. The theoretical results are illustrated using Portland cement data and a region is established where the r-k and the r-d class estimators are uniformly superior to the other mentioned estimators.  相似文献

In this paper, the problem of estimating the mean vector under non-negative constraints on location vector of the multivariate normal distribution is investigated. The value of the wavelet threshold based on Stein''s unbiased risk estimators is calculated for the shrinkage estimator in restricted parameter space. We suppose that covariance matrix is unknown and we find the dominant class of shrinkage estimators under Balance loss function. The performance evaluation of the proposed class of estimators is checked through a simulation study by using risk and average mean square error values.  相似文献

Abstract

In this article, when it is suspected that regression coefficients may be restricted to a subspace, we discuss the parameter estimation of regression coefficients in a multiple regression model. Then, in order to improve the preliminary test almost ridge estimator, we study the positive-rule Stein-type almost unbiased ridge estimator based on the positive-rule stein-type shrinkage estimator and almost unbiased ridge estimator. After that, quadratic bias and quadratic risk values of the new estimator are derived and compared with some relative estimators. And we also discuss the option of parameter k. Finally, we perform a real data example and a Monte Carlo study to illustrate theoretical results.  相似文献

We consider shrinkage and preliminary test estimation strategies for the matrix of regression parameters in multivariate multiple regression model in the presence of a natural linear constraint. We suggest a shrinkage and preliminary test estimation strategies for the parameter matrix. The goal of this article is to critically examine the relative performances of these estimators in the direction of the subspace and candidate subspace restricted type estimators. Our analytical and numerical results show that the proposed shrinkage and preliminary test estimators perform better than the benchmark estimator under candidate subspace and beyond. The methods are also applied on a real data set for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

In the presence of collinearity certain biased estimation procedures like ridge regression, generalized inverse estimator, principal component regression, Liu estimator, or improved ridge and Liu estimators are used to improve the ordinary least squares (OLS) estimates in the linear regression model. In this paper new biased estimator (Liu estimator), almost unbiased (improved) Liu estimator and their residuals will be analyzed and compared with OLS residuals in terms of mean-squared error.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, shrinkage ridge estimator and its positive part are defined for the regression coefficient vector in a partial linear model. The differencing approach is used to enjoy the ease of parameter estimation after removing the non parametric part of the model. The exact risk expressions in addition to biases are derived for the estimators under study and the region of optimality of each estimator is exactly determined. The performance of the estimators is evaluated by simulated as well as real data sets.  相似文献

In this paper, assuming that there exist omitted explanatory variables in the specified model, we derive the exact formula for the mean squared error (MSE) of a general family of shrinkage estimators for each individual regression coefficient. It is shown analytically that when our concern is to estimate each individual regression coefficient, the positive-part shrinkage estimators have smaller MSE than the original shrinkage estimators under some conditions even when the relevant regressors are omitted. Also, by numerical evaluations, we showed the effects of our theorem for several specific cases. It is shown that the positive-part shrinkage estimators have smaller MSE than the original shrinkage estimators for wide region of parameter space even when there exist omitted variables in the specified model.  相似文献

A class of trimmed linear conditional estimators based on regression quantiles for the linear regression model is introduced. This class serves as a robust analogue of non-robust linear unbiased estimators. Asymptotic analysis then shows that the trimmed least squares estimator based on regression quantiles ( Koenker and Bassett ( 1978 ) ) is the best in this estimator class in terms of asymptotic covariance matrices. The class of trimmed linear conditional estimators contains the Mallows-type bounded influence trimmed means ( see De Jongh et al ( 1988 ) ) and trimmed instrumental variables estimators. A large sample methodology based on trimmed instrumental variables estimator for confidence ellipsoids and hypothesis testing is also provided.  相似文献

The ordinary least-square estimators for linear regression analysis with multicollinearity and outliers lead to unfavorable results. In this article, we propose a new robust modified ridge M-estimator (MRME) based on M-estimator (ME) to deal with the combined problem resulting from multicollinearity and outliers in the y-direction. MRME outperforms modified ridge estimator, robust ridge estimator and ME, according to mean squares error criterion. Furthermore, a numerical example and a Monte Carlo simulation experiment are given to illustrate some of the theoretical results.  相似文献

Consider a linear regression model with some relevant regressors are unobservable. In such a situation, we estimate the model by using the proxy variables as regressors or by simply omitting the relevant regressors. In this paper, we derive the explicit formula of predictive mean squared error (PMSE) of a general family of shrinkage estimators of regression coefficients. It is shown analytically that the positive-part shrinkage estimator dominates the ordinary shrinkage estimator even when proxy variables are used in place of the unobserved variables. Also, as an example, our result is applied to the double k-class estimator proposed by Ullah and Ullah (Double k-class estimators of coefficients in linear regression. Econometrica. 1978;46:705–722). Our numerical results show that the positive-part double k-class estimator with proxy variables has preferable PMSE performance.  相似文献

The use of heteroscedasticity-consistent covariance matrix (HCCM) estimators is very common in practice to draw correct inference for the coefficients of a linear regression model with heteroscedastic errors. However, in addition to the problem of heteroscedasticity, linear regression models may also be plagued with some considerable degree of collinearity among the regressors when two or more regressors are considered. This situation causes many adverse effects on the least squares measures and alternatively, the ordinary ridge regression method is used as a common practice. But in the available literature, the problems of multicollinearity and heteroscedasticity have not been discussed as a combined issue especially, for the inference of the regression coefficients. The present article addresses the inference about the regression coefficients taking both the issues of multicollinearity and heteroscedasticity into account and suggests the use of HCCM estimators for the ridge regression. This article proposes t- and F-tests, based on these HCCM estimators, that perform adequately well in the numerical evaluation of the Monte Carlo simulations.  相似文献

In this article, we aim to study the linearized ridge regression (LRR) estimator in a linear regression model motivated by the work of Liu (1993). The LRR estimator and the two types of generalized Liu estimators are investigated under the PRESS criterion. The method of obtaining the optimal generalized ridge regression (GRR) estimator is derived from the optimal LRR estimator. We apply the Hald data as a numerical example and then make a simulation study to show the main results. It is concluded that the idea of transforming the GRR estimator as a complicated function of the biasing parameters to a linearized version should be paid more attention in the future.  相似文献
