Available methods for deriving tests and confidence regions for multiparameter models seem seriously limited in their feasibility. This paper gives preliminary survey to some developing techniques that use conditioning as a primary device to derive tests and confidence regions. The techniques usefibre analysis which involves the conditional determination of OLS (observed level of significance); the techniques are available initally for models with pivotal quantities and for continuous exponential models. The techniques can then be extended to more general models using the notion of tangent model.  相似文献

[Abstract] Based on a single and on two independent samples, joint confidence regions for parameters of Pareto distributions are proposed with minimum volume properties and without assigning the confidence level to dimensions. In the one-sample case, comparisons are made to former simultaneous confidence sets for Pareto parameters by means of simulation and a real data set. The two-sample case is studied in various set-ups and comprises simultaneous confidence regions for the shape parameters, the scale parameters, and higher-dimensional vectors of these parameters, where common shape and common scale models are also considered.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to provide a method for constructing exact joint confidence regions for the parameters of type I (maximum) and type I (minimum) extreme value distributions. In this article, empirical likelihood inferences for the varying coefficient partially nonlinear models are investigated. An empirical log-likelihood ratio function for the unknown parameter vector in the nonlinear function part and a residual-adjusted empirical log-likelihood ratio function for the nonparametric component are proposed. The corresponding Wilks phenomena are proved and the confidence regions for parametric component and nonparametric component are constructed. Simulation studies indicate that, in terms of coverage probabilities and average areas of the confidence regions, the empirical likelihood method performs better than the normal approximation-based method. Furthermore, a real data set application is also provided to illustrate the proposed empirical likelihood estimation technique.  相似文献

This article investigates the confidence regions for semiparametric nonlinear reproductive dispersion models (SNRDMs), which is an extension of nonlinear regression models. Based on local linear estimate of nonparametric component and generalized profile likelihood estimate of parameter in SNRDMs, a modified geometric framework of Bates and Wattes is proposed. Within this geometric framework, we present three kinds of improved approximate confidence regions for the parameters and parameter subsets in terms of curvatures. The work extends the previous results of Hamilton et al. [in Accounting for intrinsic nonlinearity in nonlinear regression parameter inference regions, Ann. In this paper, a new design-oriented two-stage two-sided simultaneous confidence intervals, for comparing several exponential populations with control population in terms of location parameters under heteroscedasticity, are proposed. If there is a prior information that the location parameter of k exponential populations are not less than the location parameter of control population, one-sided simultaneous confidence intervals provide more inferential sensitivity than two-sided simultaneous confidence intervals. But the two-sided simultaneous confidence intervals have advantages over the one-sided simultaneous confidence intervals as they provide both lower and upper bounds for the parameters of interest. The proposed design-oriented two-stage two-sided simultaneous confidence intervals provide the benefits of both the two-stage one-sided and two-sided simultaneous confidence intervals. When the additional sample at the second stage may not be available due to the experimental budget shortage or other factors in an experiment, one-stage two-sided confidence intervals are proposed, which combine the advantages of one-stage one-sided and two-sided simultaneous confidence intervals. The critical constants are obtained using the techniques given in Lam [9,10]. These critical constant are compared with the critical constants obtained by Bonferroni inequality techniques and found that critical constant obtained by Lam [9,10] are less conservative than critical constants computed from the Bonferroni inequality technique. Implementation of the proposed simultaneous confidence intervals is demonstrated by a numerical example.  相似文献

Abstract.  The Cox model with time-dependent coefficients has been studied by a number of authors recently. In this paper, we develop empirical likelihood (EL) pointwise confidence regions for the time-dependent regression coefficients via local partial likelihood smoothing. The EL simultaneous confidence bands for a linear combination of the coefficients are also derived based on the strong approximation methods. The EL ratio is formulated through the local partial log-likelihood for the regression coefficient functions. Our numerical studies indicate that the EL pointwise/simultaneous confidence regions/bands have satisfactory finite sample performances. Compared with the confidence regions derived directly based on the asymptotic normal distribution of the local constant estimator, the EL confidence regions are overall tighter and can better capture the curvature of the underlying regression coefficient functions. Two data sets, the gastric cancer data and the Mayo Clinic primary biliary cirrhosis data, are analysed using the proposed method.  相似文献

In this article, we use bockwise empirical likelihood technique to construct confidence regions for the parameter of the single-index models under negatively associated errors. It is shown that the blockwise empirical likelihood ratio statistic for the parameter of interest is asymptotically χ2-type distributed. 文章应用广义熵指数对我国1978~2003年的地区差距进行了测度与分解。结果表明:从总体来看,改革开放以来我国地区差距呈现出V字型变动,先下降后上升;从东、中、西部三大地带来看,地带内部差距呈缩小的态势,而地带之间的差距逐步扩大;从动态分解角度看,地带之间差距变动拉大了总体地区差距,而地带内部差距变动又缩小了总体地区差距。  相似文献

We consider a bivariate normal linear regression model with an inequality restriction imposed on one of the regression coefficients. The exact analytical expressions for the density and distribution functions of the inequality constrained and pre-test estimators are derived and numerically evaluated. The implications of using the inequality constrained and pre-test estimators in confidence interval construction are also discussed and explored.  相似文献

The joint asymptotic distribution of the upper and lower bounds for the Gini index derived by Gastwirth for grouped data are obtained. From them a conservative asymptotically distribution-free confidence interval for the population Gini index is presented. In this paper, we use blockwise empirical likelihood (EL) technique to construct confidence regions for the parameter of the partial linear models under negatively associated errors. It is shown that the blockwise EL ratio statistic for the parameter of interest is asymptotically χ2-type distributed by employing the large-block and small-block arguments. Exact confidence intervals for a proportion of total variance, based on pivotal quantities, only exist for mixed linear models having two variance components. Generalized confidence intervals (GCIs) introduced by Weerahandi [1993. Generalized confidence intervals (Corr: 94V89 p726). J. Am. Statist. Assoc. 88, 899–905] are based on generalized pivotal quantities (GPQs) and can be constructed for a much wider range of models. In this paper, the author investigates the coverage probabilities, as well as the utility of GCIs, for a proportion of total variance in mixed linear models having more than two variance components. Particular attention is given to the formation of GPQs and GCIs in mixed linear models having three variance components in situations where the data exhibit complete balance, partial balance, and partial imbalance. The GCI procedure is quite general and provides a useful method to construct confidence intervals in a variety of applications.  相似文献

This work aims at assessing, by simulation methods, the performance of asymptotic confidence intervals for Zenga's new inequality measure. The results are compared with those obtained on Gini's measure, perhaps the most widely used index for measuring inequality in income and wealth distributions. Our findings show that the coverage accuracy and the size of the confidence intervals for the two measures are very similar in samples from economic size distributions.  相似文献

Stein's two–sample procedure for a general linear model is studied and derived in terms of matrices in which the error tems are distributed as multivatriate student t–error terms. Tests and confidence regions are constructed in a similar way to classical linear models which involves percentage points of student t and F distributions. The advantages of taking two samples are: the variance of the error terms is known, and the power of tests are size of confidence regions are controllable. A new distribution called noncentral F–type distribution different from the nencentral F is found when considerinf the power of the test of general linear hypothesis.  相似文献

An empirical likelihood method was proposed by Owen and has been extended to many semiparametric and nonparametric models with a continuous response variable. However, there has been less attention focused on the generalized regression model. This article systematically studies two adjusted empirical-likelihood-based methods in the generalized varying-coefficient partially linear models. Based on the popular profile likelihood estimation procedure, the new adjusted empirical likelihood technology for the parameter is established and the resulting statistics are shown to be asymptotically standard chi-square distributed. Further, the adjusted empirical-likelihood-based confidence regions are established, and an efficient adjusted profile empirical-likelihood-based confidence intervals/regions for any components of the parameter, which are of primary interest, is also constructed. Their asymptotic properties are also derived. Some numerical studies are carried out to illustrate the performance of the proposed inference procedures.  相似文献

Generally, confidence regions for the probabilities of a multinomial population are constructed based on the Pearson χ2 statistic. Morales et al. (Bootstrap confidence regions in multinomial sampling. Appl Math Comput. 2004;155:295–315) considered the bootstrap and asymptotic confidence regions based on a broader family of test statistics known as power-divergence test statistics. In this study, we extend their work and propose penalized power-divergence test statistics-based confidence regions. We only consider small sample sizes where asymptotic properties fail and alternative methods are needed. Both bootstrap and asymptotic confidence regions are constructed. We consider the percentile and the bias corrected and accelerated bootstrap confidence regions. The latter confidence region has not been studied previously for the power-divergence statistics much less for the penalized ones. Designed simulation studies are carried out to calculate average coverage probabilities. Mean absolute deviation between actual and nominal coverage probabilities is used to compare the proposed confidence regions.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the application of the empirical likelihood for

linear models under median constraints in view of robustness. For two simple median constraints, it is shown that conditions to ensure the consistency of the empirical likelihood confidence regions can be surprisingly relaxed compared with the normal approach under L norm. However, the coverage accuracy of the empirical likelihood confidence regions based on simple median constrains cannot be improved because of the discontinuity of the constraints. Therefore, a smoothed version of median constraint is proposed and a general theory is established to ensure its validity.  相似文献

Regular parametric families are commonly encountered in statistical problems (e.g. Cox & Hinkley, 1974). In this paper, we propose a differential geometric framework for the embedded models in these families. Our framework may be regarded as an extension of that presented by Bates & Watts (1980) for nonlinear regression models. As an application, we use this geometric framework to derive three kinds of improved approximate confidence regions for the parameter and parameter subsets in terms of curvatures. The results obtained by Hamilton et al. (1982) and Hamilton (1986) are extended to embedded models in regular parametric families.  相似文献
