In this study, we introduce the Heine process, {Xq(t), t > 0}, 0 < q < 1, where the random variable Xq(t), for every t > 0, represents the number of events (occurrences or arrivals) during a time interval (0, t]. The Heine process is introduced as a q-analog of the basic Poisson process. Also, in this study, we prove that the distribution of the waiting time Wν, q, ν ? 1, up to the νth arrival, is a q-Erlang distribution and the interarrival times Tk, q = Wk, q ? Wk ? 1, q,?k = 1, 2, …, ν with W0, q = 0 are independent and equidistributed with a q-Exponential distribution.  相似文献

Traditionally, a Pólya process is approached from a probability point of view. No prior inference work has been done on them. In this study, we approach the continuous-time Pólya process from an estimation point of view. In this paper, we derive elementary M- and optimally robust asymptotic linear (AL)-estimates for the parameters of an Ornstein–Uhlenbeck process. Simulation and estimation of the process are already well-studied, see Iacus (Simulation and inference for stochastic differential equations. Springer, New York, 2008). However, in order to protect against outliers and deviations from the ideal law the formulation of suitable neighborhood models and a corresponding robustification of the estimators are necessary. As a measure of robustness, we consider the maximum asymptotic mean square error (maxasyMSE), which is determined by the influence curve (IC) of AL estimates. The IC represents the standardized influence of an individual observation on the estimator given the past. In a first step, we extend the method of M-estimation from Huber (Robust statistics. Wiley, New York, 1981). In a second step, we apply the general theory based on local asymptotic normality, AL estimates, and shrinking neighborhoods due to Kohl et?al. (Stat Methods Appl 19:333–354, 2010), Rieder (Robust asymptotic statistics. Springer, New York, 1994), Rieder (2003), and Staab (1984). This leads to optimally robust ICs whose graph exhibits surprising behavior. In the end, we discuss the estimator construction, i.e. the problem of constructing an estimator from the family of optimal ICs. Therefore we carry out in our context the One-Step construction dating back to LeCam (Asymptotic methods in statistical decision theory. Springer, New York, 1969) and compare it by means of simulations with MLE and M-estimator.  相似文献

Statistical inferences for the geometric process (GP) are derived when the distribution of the first occurrence time is assumed to be inverse Gaussian (IG). An α-series process, as a possible alternative to the GP, is introduced since the GP is sometimes inappropriate to apply some reliability and scheduling problems. In this study, statistical inference problem for the α-series process is considered where the distribution of first occurrence time is IG. The estimators of the parameters α, μ, and σ2 are obtained by using the maximum likelihood (ML) method. Asymptotic distributions and consistency properties of the ML estimators are derived. In order to compare the efficiencies of the ML estimators with the widely used nonparametric modified moment (MM) estimators, Monte Carlo simulations are performed. The results showed that the ML estimators are more efficient than the MM estimators. Moreover, two real life datasets are given for application purposes.  相似文献

Point process models are a natural approach for modelling data that arise as point events. In the case of Poisson counts, these may be fitted easily as a weighted Poisson regression. Point processes lack the notion of sample size. This is problematic for model selection, because various classical criteria such as the Bayesian information criterion (BIC) are a function of the sample size, n, and are derived in an asymptotic framework where n tends to infinity. In this paper, we develop an asymptotic result for Poisson point process models in which the observed number of point events, m, plays the role that sample size does in the classical regression context. Following from this result, we derive a version of BIC for point process models, and when fitted via penalised likelihood, conditions for the LASSO penalty that ensure consistency in estimation and the oracle property. We discuss challenges extending these results to the wider class of Gibbs models, of which the Poisson point process model is a special case.  相似文献

We derive the exact distribution of the maximum likelihood estimator of the mean reversion parameter (κ) in the Ornstein–Uhlenbeck process using numerical integration through analytical evaluation of a joint characteristic function. Different scenarios are considered: known or unknown drift term, fixed or random start-up value, and zero or positive κ. Monte Carlo results demonstrate the remarkably reliable performance of our exact approach across all the scenarios. In comparison, misleading results may arise under the asymptotic distributions, including the advocated infill asymptotic distribution, which performs poorly in the tails when there is no intercept in the regression and the starting value of the process is nonzero.  相似文献

This paper describes an innovative application of statistical process control to the online remote control of the UK's gas transportation networks. The gas industry went through a number of changes in ownership, regulation, access to networks, organization and management culture in the 1990s. The application of SPC was motivated by these changes along with the desire to apply the best industrial statistics theory to practical problems. The work was initiated by a studentship, with the technology gradually being transferred to the industry. The combined efforts of control engineers and statisticians helped develop a novel SPC system. Having set up the control limits, a system was devised to automatically update and publish the control charts on a daily basis. The charts and an associated discussion forum are available to both managers and control engineers throughout the country at their desktop PCs. The paper describes methods of involving people to design first-class systems to achieve continual process improvement. It describes how the traditional benefits of SPC can be realized in a 'distal team working', and 'soft systems', context of four Area Control Centres, controlling a system delivering two thirds of the UK's energy needs.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We present an adaptive method for the automatic scaling of random-walk Metropolis–Hastings algorithms, which quickly and robustly identifies the scaling factor that yields a specified overall sampler acceptance probability. Our method relies on the use of the Robbins–Monro search process, whose performance is determined by an unknown steplength constant. Based on theoretical considerations we give a simple estimator of this constant for Gaussian proposal distributions. The effectiveness of our method is demonstrated with both simulated and real data examples.  相似文献

It is demonstrated that the confidence intervals (CIs) for the probability of eventual extinction and other parameters of a Galton–Watson branching process based upon the maximum likelihood estimators can often have substantially lower coverage when compared to the desired nominal confidence coefficient, especially in small, more realistic sample sizes. The same conclusion holds for the traditional bootstrap CIs. We propose several adjustments to these CIs, which greatly improves coverage in most cases. We also make a correction in an asymptotic variance formula given in Stigler (1971 Stigler, S.M. (1971). In this article, we obtain the uniform local asymptotics for a Lévy process with a heavy-tailed Lévy measure and for the overshoot and undershoot of the Lévy process. As applications, we get the uniform asymptotics of the finite-time ruin probability and the local ruin probability for the Lévy risk model with a heavy-tailed Lévy measure. By the above results, we find that in the compound Poisson model perturbed by a Brownian motion, the effect of the Brownian component on the asymptotics of the finite-time ruin probability and the local ruin probability washes out.  相似文献

We consider an individual or household endowed with an initial capital and an income, modeled as a linear function of time. Assuming that the discount rate evolves as an Ornstein–Uhlenbeck process, we target to find an unrestricted consumption strategy such that the value of the expected discounted consumption is maximized. Differently than in the case with restricted consumption rates, we can determine the optimal strategy and the value function.  相似文献

This paper proposes the use of the Bernstein–Dirichlet process prior for a new nonparametric approach to estimating the link function in the single-index model (SIM). The Bernstein–Dirichlet process prior has so far mainly been used for nonparametric density estimation. Here we modify this approach to allow for an approximation of the unknown link function. Instead of the usual Gaussian distribution, the error term is assumed to be asymmetric Laplace distributed which increases the flexibility and robustness of the SIM. To automatically identify truly active predictors, spike-and-slab priors are used for Bayesian variable selection. Posterior computations are performed via a Metropolis-Hastings-within-Gibbs sampler using a truncation-based algorithm for stick-breaking priors. We compare the efficiency of the proposed approach with well-established techniques in an extensive simulation study and illustrate its practical performance by an application to nonparametric modelling of the power consumption in a sewage treatment plant.  相似文献
