This paper investigates a new test for normality that is easy for biomedical researchers to understand and easy to implement in all dimensions. In terms of power comparison against a broad range of alternatives, the new test outperforms the best known competitors in the literature as demonstrated by simulation results. In addition, the proposed test is illustrated using data from real biomedical studies.  相似文献

The behavior of a range of tests assessing the normality of a sequence of independent and identically distributed random variables is investigated. An examination of the empirical significance level of the tests is undertaken for different sample sizes. The empirical power associated with these tests is also calculated under some alternative distributions.  相似文献

A correlation-type statistic for assessing multivariate normality is described. Its estimated finite sample distribution is tabulated, and its performance against certain alternatives is compared with that of a competing Cramer-von Mises type statistic in a Monte Carlo power study. A set of quadrivariate data is examined as illustration of the procedure.  相似文献

This paper presents some powerful omnibus tests for multivariate normality based on the likelihood ratio and the characterizations of the multivariate normal distribution. The power of the proposed tests is studied against various alternatives via Monte Carlo simulations. Simulation studies show our tests compare well with other powerful tests including multivariate versions of the Shapiro–Wilk test and the Anderson–Darling test.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Nakagami distribution is one of the most common distributions used to model positive valued and right skewed data. In this study, we interest goodness of fit problem for Nakagami distribution. Thus, we propose smooth tests for Nakagami distribution based on orthonormal functions. We also compare these tests with some classical goodness of fit tests such as Cramer–von Mises, Anderson–Darling, and Kolmogorov–Smirnov tests in respect to type-I error rates and powers of tests. Simulation study indicates that smooth tests give better results than these classical tests give in respect to almost all cases considered.  相似文献

The most popular goodness of fit test for a multinomial distribution is the chi-square test. But this test is generally biased if observations are subject to misclassification, In this paper we shall discuss how to define a new test procedure when we have double sample data obtained from the true and fallible devices. An adjusted chi-square test based on the imputation method and the likelihood ratio test are considered, Asymptotically, these two procedures are equivalent. However, an example and simulation results show that the former procedure is not only computationally simpler but also more powerful under finite sample situations.  相似文献

The smooth goodness of fit tests are generalized to singly censored data and applied to the problem of testing Weibull (or extreme value) fit. Smooth tests, Pearson-type tests, and the spacings tests proposed by Mann, Schemer, and Fertig (1973) are compared on the basis of local asymptotic relative efficiency with respect to the asymptotic best test against generalized gamma alternatives, The smooth test of order one Is found to be most efficient for the generalized gamma alternatives.  相似文献

In this paper properties of two estimators of Cpm are investigated in terms of changes in the process mean and variance. The bias and mean squared error of these estimators are derived. It can be shown that the estimate of Cpm proposed by Chan, Cheng and Spiring (1988) has smaller bias than the one proposed by Boyles (1991) and also has a smaller mean squared error under certain conditions. Various approximate confidence intervals for Cpm are obtained and are compared in terms of coverage probabilities, missed rate and average interval width.  相似文献

The proportional hazards regression model of Cox(1972) is widely used in analyzing survival data. We examine several goodness of fit tests for checking the proportionality of hazards in the Cox model with two-sample censored data, and compare the performance of these tests by a simulation study. The strengths and weaknesses of the tests are pointed out. The effects of the extent of random censoring on the size and power are also examined. Results of a simulation study demonstrate that Gill and Schumacher's test is most powerful against a broad range of monotone departures from the proportional hazards assumption, but it may not perform as well fail for alternatives of nonmonotone hazard ratio. For the latter kind of alternatives, Andersen's test may detect patterns of irregular changes in hazards.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

New invariant and consistent goodness-of-fit tests for multivariate normality are introduced. Tests are based on the Karhunen–Loève transformation of a multidimensional sample from a population. A comparison of simulated powers of tests and other well-known tests with respect to some alternatives is given. The simulation study demonstrates that power of the proposed McCull test almost does not depend on the number of grouping cells. The test shows an advantage over other chi-squared type tests. However, averaged over all of the simulated conditions examined in this article, the Anderson–Darling type and the Cramer–von Mises type tests seem to be the best.  相似文献

Two test-statistics analogous to Pearson's chi-square test function - given in (1.6) and (1.7) - are investigated. These statistics utilize, apart from the number of sample elements lying in the respective intervals of the partition, their positions within the intervals too. It is shown that the test-statistics are asymptotically distributed - as the sample size N tends to infinity - according to the x 2distribution with parameter r, i.e. the number of intervals chosen. The limiting distribution of the test statistics under the null-hypothesis when N tends to the infinity and r =O(N α) (0<α<1), further the consistency of the tests based on these statistics is considered. Some remarks are made concerning the efficiency of the corresponding goodness of fit tests also; the authors intend to return to a more detailed treatment of the efficiency later.  相似文献

The authors provide a rigorous large sample theory for linear models whose response variable has been subjected to the Box‐Cox transformation. They provide a continuous asymptotic approximation to the distribution of estimators of natural parameters of the model. They show, in particular, that the maximum likelihood estimator of the ratio of slope to residual standard deviation is consistent and relatively stable. The authors further show the importance for inference of normality of the errors and give tests for normality based on the estimated residuals. For non‐normal errors, they give adjustments to the log‐likelihood and to asymptotic standard errors.  相似文献

The problem of testing for bivariate normality using the empirical distribution function is considered. A Cramér-von Mises type statistic is defined and asymptotic percentage points for this statistic given. This involves solving a two-dimensional homogeneous integral equation. Unfortunately the Cramér-von Mises statistic is not invariant under orthogonal transformations of the data so that an invariant statistic is developed. Approximations for the distribution of this statistic are found by Monte Carlo. Applications of the statistics are given. It is shown that the statistics are particularly sensitive to certain kinds of pattern in the data and they could be useful in data analysis apart from providing a formal test of bivariate normality  相似文献

Considered are tests for normality of the errors in ridge regression. If an intercept is included in the model, it is shown that test statistics based on the empirical distribution function of the ridge residuals have the same limiting distribution as in the one-sample test for normality with estimated mean and variance. The result holds with weak assumptions on the behavior of the independent variables; asymptotic normality of the ridge estimator is not required.  相似文献

Five tests of homogeneity for a 2x(k+l) contingency table are compared using Monte Carlo techniques. For these studiesit is assumed that k becomes large in such a way that thecontingency table is sparse for 2xk of the cells, but the sample size in two of the cells remains large. The test statistics studied are: the chi-square approximation to the Pearson test statistic, the chi-square approximation to the likelihood ratio statistic, the normal approximation to Zelterman's (1984)the normal approximation to Pearson's chi-square, and the normal approximation to the likelihood ratio statistic. For the range of parameters studied the chi-square approximation to Pearson's statistic performs consistently well with regard to its size and power.  相似文献

In this article, we propose a new multiple test procedure for assessing multivariate normality, which combines BHEP (Baringhaus–Henze–Epps–Pulley) tests by considering extreme and nonextreme choices of the tuning parameter in the definition of the BHEP test statistic. Monte Carlo power comparisons indicate that the new test presents a reasonable power against a wide range of alternative distributions, showing itself to be competitive against the most recommended procedures for testing a multivariate hypothesis of normality. We further illustrate the use of the new test for the Fisher Iris dataset.  相似文献

The gamma distribution is often used to model data with right skewness. Smooth tests of goodness of fit are proposed for this distribution. Their powers are compared with powers of the Anderson–Darling test and tests based on the empirical Laplace transform, the empirical moment generating function and the independence of the mean and coefficient of variation that characterizes the gamma distribution.  相似文献
