In this article, we introduce the modified r-k class estimator and the restricted r-k class estimator. We compare the performances of the new estimators to the r-k class estimator with respect to the matrix mean square error (MSE) criterion. As a special case of the restricted r-k class estimator, we obtain the restricted principal components regression (RPCR) estimator. Finally, we conduct a Monte Carlo simulation study and a numerical example to investigate the performances of the proposed estimators by the scalar mean square error (mse) criterion.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this article, we discuss the superiority of r-k class estimator over some estimators in a misspecified linear model. We derive the necessary and sufficient conditions for the superiority of the r-k class estimator over each of these estimators under the Mahalanobis loss function by the average loss criterion in the misspecified linear model.  相似文献

In many genetic analyses of dichotomous twin data, odds ratios have been used to test hypotheses on heritability and shared common environment effects of a given disease (Lichtenstein et al., 2000 Lichtenstein , P. , Holm , N. , Verkasalo , P. , Iliadou , A. , Kaprio , J. , Koskenvuo , M. , Pukkala , E. , Skytthe , A. , Hemminki , K. ( 2000 ). Environmental and heritable factors in the causation of cancer . L. ( 1997 ). Cancer in twins: genetic and nongenetic familial risk factors . Journal of the National Cancer Institute 89 : 28793 . [Google Scholar]; Ramakrishnan et al., 1992 Ramakrishnan , V. , Goldberg , J. , Henderson , W. , Elsen , S. , True , W. , Lyons , M. , Tsuang , M. ( 1992 ). Elementary methods for the analysis of dichotomous outcomes in unselected samples of twins . Genetic Epidemiology 9 : 273287 . [Google Scholar], 4). However, estimates of these two effects have not been dealt with in the literature. In epidemiology, the attributable fraction (AF), a function of the odds ratio and the prevalence of the risk factor has been used to describe the contribution of a risk factor to a disease in a given population (Leviton, 1973 Leviton , A. ( 1973 ). Definitions of attributable risk . American Journal of Epidemiology 98 : 231 . [Google Scholar]). In this article, we adapt the AF to quantify the heritability and the shared common environment. Twin data on cancer, gallstone disease and phobia are used to illustrate the applicability of the AF estimate as a measure of heritability.  相似文献

In the present paper, we introduce and study a class of distributions that has the linear mean residual quantile function. Various distributional properties and reliability characteristics of the class are studied. Some characterizations of the class of distributions are presented. We then present generalizations of this class of distributions using the relationship between various quantile based reliability measures. The method of L-moments is employed to estimate parameters of the class of distributions. Finally, we apply the proposed class of distributions to a real data set.  相似文献

Singh et al. (1986 Singh, B., Chaubey, Y.P., Dwivedi, T.D. (1986). An almost unbiased ridge estimator. Sankhya B48: 34236. [Google Scholar]) proposed an almost unbiased ridge estimator using Jackknife method that required transformation of the regression parameters. This article shows that the same method can be used to derive the Jackknifed ridge estimator of the original (untransformed) parameter without transformation. This method also leads in deriving easily the second-order Jackknifed ridge that may reduce the bias further. We further investigate the performance of these estimators along with a recent method by Batah et al. (2008 Batah, F. S.M., Ramanathan, T.V., Gore, S.D. (2008). The efficiency of modified Jack-knife and ridge type regression estimators: a comparison. Surv. Math. Applic. 3:111122. [Google Scholar]) called modified Jackknifed ridge theoretically as well as numerically.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The search for optimal non-parametric estimates of the cumulative distribution and hazard functions under order constraints inspired at least two earlier classic papers in mathematical statistics: those of Kiefer and Wolfowitz[1] Kiefer, J. and Wolfowitz, J. 1976. Asymptotically Minimax Estimation of Concave and Convex Distribution Functions. Z. Wahrsch. Verw. Gebiete, 34: 7385. [Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar] and Grenander[2] Grenander, U. 1956. On the Theory of Mortality Measurement. Part II. Scand. Aktuarietidskrift J., 39: 125153.  [Google Scholar] respectively. In both cases, either the greatest convex minorant or the least concave majorant played a fundamental role. Based on Kiefer and Wolfowitz's work, Wang3-4 Wang, J.L. 1986. Asymptotically Minimax Estimators for Distributions with Increasing Failure Rate. Ann. Statist., 14: 11131131. Wang, J.L. 1987. Estimators of a Distribution Function with Increasing Failure Rate Average. J. Statist. Plann. Inference, 16: 415427.   found asymptotically minimax estimates of the distribution function F and its cumulative hazard function Λ in the class of all increasing failure rate (IFR) and all increasing failure rate average (IFRA) distributions. In this paper, we will prove limit theorems which extend Wang's asymptotic results to the mixed censorship/truncation model as well as provide some other relevant results. The methods are illustrated on the Channing House data, originally analysed by Hyde.5-6 Hyde, J. 1977. Testing Survival Under Right Censoring and Left Truncation. Biometrika, 64: 225230. Hyde, J. 1980. “Survival Analysis with Incomplete Observations”. In Biostatistics Casebook 3146. This article considers some classes of estimators of the population median of the study variable using information on an auxiliary variable with their properties under large sample approximation. Asymptotic optimum estimator (AOE) in each class of estimators has been investigated along with the approximate mean square error formulae. It has been shown that the proposed classes of estimators are better than these considered by Gross (1980 Gross , T. S. ( 1980 ). Median estimation in sample surveys. Proc. Surv. Res. Meth. Sect. Amer. Statist. Assoc. 181–184 . [Google Scholar]), Kuk and Mak (1989 Kuk , A. Y. C. , Mak , T. K. ( 1989 ). Median estimation in the presence of auxiliary information . J. Roy. Statist. Soc. Ser. An empirical study is carried out to judge the merits of the suggested class of estimators over other existing estimators.  相似文献

In this article, we consider two different shared frailty regression models under the assumption of Gompertz as baseline distribution. Mostly assumption of gamma distribution is considered for frailty distribution. To compare the results with gamma frailty model, we consider the inverse Gaussian shared frailty model also. We compare these two models to a real life bivariate survival data set of acute leukemia remission times (Freireich et al., 1963 Freireich, E.J., Gehan, E., Frei, E., Schroeder, L.R., Wolman, I.J., Anbari, R., Burgert, E.O., Mills, S.D., Pinkel, D., Selawry, O.S., Moon, J.H., Gendel, B.R., Spurr, C.L., Storrs, R., Haurani, F., Hoogstraten, B., Lee, S. (1963). The effect of 6-mercaptopurine on the duration of steroid-induced remissions in acute leukemia: a model for evaluation of other potentially useful therapy. Blood 21:699716.[Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]). Analysis is performed using Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods. Model comparison is made using Bayesian model selection criterion and a well-fitted model is suggested for the acute leukemia data.  相似文献

The authors derive the analytic expressions for the mean and variance of the log-likelihood ratio for testing equality of k (k ≥ 2) normal populations, and suggest a chi-square approximation and a gamma approximation to the exact null distribution. Numerical comparisons show that the two approximations and the original beta approximation of Neyman and Pearson (1931 Neyman , J. , Pearson , E. S. ( 1931 ). On the problem of k samples . In: Neyman , J. , Pearson , E. S. , eds. Joint Statistical Papers . Cambridge : Cambridge University Press , pp. 116131 . [Google Scholar]) are all accurate, and the gamma approximation is the most accurate.  相似文献

Lindeman et al. [12 Lindeman, R. H., Merenda, P. F. and Gold, R. Z. 1980. Introduction to Bivariate and Multivariate Analysis, Glenview, IL: Scott Foresman.  [Google Scholar]] provide a unique solution to the relative importance of correlated predictors in multiple regression by averaging squared semi-partial correlations obtained for each predictor across all p! orderings. In this paper, we propose a series of predictor sensitivity statistics that complement the variance decomposition procedure advanced by Lindeman et al. [12 Lindeman, R. H., Merenda, P. F. and Gold, R. Z. 1980. Introduction to Bivariate and Multivariate Analysis, Glenview, IL: Scott Foresman.  [Google Scholar]]. First, we detail the logic of averaging over orderings as a technique of variance partitioning. Second, we assess predictors by conditional dominance analysis, a qualitative procedure designed to overcome defects in the Lindeman et al. [12 Lindeman, R. H., Merenda, P. F. and Gold, R. Z. 1980. Introduction to Bivariate and Multivariate Analysis, Glenview, IL: Scott Foresman.  [Google Scholar]] variance decomposition solution. Third, we introduce a suite of indices to assess the sensitivity of a predictor to model specification, advancing a series of sensitivity-adjusted contribution statistics that allow for more definite quantification of predictor relevance. Fourth, we describe the analytic efficiency of our proposed technique against the Budescu conditional dominance solution to the uneven contribution of predictors across all p! orderings.  相似文献

In this article, a class of reflected generalized Pareto distributions (cf. Burkschat et al., 2003 Burkschat , M. , Cramer , E. , Kamps , U. ( 2003 ). Dual generalized order statistics . Metron LXI ( 1 ): 1326 . [Google Scholar]) is considered. Recurrence relations for joint moment generating functions of higher non adjacent dual generalized order statistics based on a random sample drawn from the considered class are derived. Higher joint moments of non adjacent dual generalized order statistics (reversed ordered order statistics and lower k-records as special cases) are obtained. Recurrence relations for single and product moment generating functions and moments of higher non adjacent dual generalized order statistics are derived. Some results of higher moments of non adjacent generalized order statistics from generalized Pareto distributions (cf. Johnson et al., 1995 Johnson , N. L. , Kotz , S. , Balakrishnan , N. ( 1995 ). Continuous Univariate Distributions. , 2nd ed. Vol. 2. New York : Wiley & Sons . [Google Scholar]), are obtained by using a relation connecting higher moments of generalized order statistics and its dual.  相似文献

In Bayesian Inference it is often desirable to have a posterior density reflecting mainly the information from sample data. To achieve this purpose it is important to employ prior densities which add little information to the sample. We have in the literature many such prior densities, for example, Jeffreys (1967 Jeffreys , H. ( 1967 ). Theory of Probability , 3rd rev. ed. . London : Oxford University Press . [Google Scholar]), Lindley (1956 Lindley , D. V. ( 1956 ). On a measure of the information provided by an experiment . Ann. Mathemat. Independent random samples are taken from two normal populations with means $\mu _1$ and $\mu _2$ and a common unknown variance $\sigma ^2.$ It is known that $\mu _1\le \mu _2.$ In this paper, estimation of the common standard deviation $\sigma $ is considered with respect to a scale invariant loss function. A general minimaxity result is proved and a class of minimax estimators is derived. An admissibility result is proved in this class. Further a class of equivariant estimators with respect to a subgroup of affine group is considered and dominating estimators in this class are obtained. The risk performance of some of these estimators is compared numerically.  相似文献

Based on the recursions in Huffer (1988 Huffer, F. (1988). Divided differences and the joint distribution of linear combinations of spacings. Journal of Applied Probability 25:346354. [Google Scholar]) and Huffer and Lin (2001 Huffer, F. W., Lin, C. T. (2001). Computing the joint distribution of general linear combinations of spacings or exponential variates. Statistica Sinica 11:11411157. [Google Scholar]), we present a two-stage algorithm and two specialized methods for evaluating the probabilities involving linear combination of spacings of special forms. The two-stage algorithm combines the advantages of marking algorithm in Huffer and Lin (1997 Huffer, F. W., Lin, C. T. (1997). Computing the exact distribution of the extremes of sums of consecutive spacings. Computational Statistics and Data Analysis 26:117132. [Google Scholar]) and general algorithm in Huffer and Lin (2001 Huffer, F. W., Lin, C. T. (2001). Computing the joint distribution of general linear combinations of spacings or exponential variates. Statistica Sinica 11:11411157. [Google Scholar]). The proposed methods can analytically derive the exact expressions for some specific problems, and efficiently handle problems such as the distribution of the circular scan statistic and multiple coverage probabilities.  相似文献

Let \(X_1 ,X_2 ,\ldots ,X_n \) be a sequence of Markov Bernoulli trials (MBT) and \(\underline{X}_n =( {X_{n,k_1 } ,X_{n,k_2 } ,\ldots ,X_{n,k_r } })\) be a random vector where \(X_{n,k_i } \) represents the number of occurrences of success runs of length \(k_i \,( {i=1,2,\ldots ,r})\) . In this paper the joint distribution of \(\underline{X}_n \) in the sequence of \(n\) MBT is studied using method of conditional probability generating functions. Five different counting schemes of runs namely non-overlapping runs, runs of length at least \(k\) , overlapping runs, runs of exact length \(k\) and \(\ell \) -overlapping runs (i.e. \(\ell \) -overlapping counting scheme), \(0\le \ell are considered. The pgf of joint distribution of \(\underline{X}_n \) is obtained in terms of matrix polynomial and an algorithm is developed to get exact probability distribution. Numerical results are included to demonstrate the computational flexibility of the developed results. Various applications of the joint distribution of \(\underline{X}_n \) such as in evaluation of the reliability of \(( {n,f,k})\!\!:\!\!G\) and \(\!:\!\!G\) system, in evaluation of quantities related to start-up demonstration tests, acceptance sampling plans are also discussed.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose an asymmetric class of bivariate copulas. This class is obtained through limiting properties of the extended copula introduced by Bekrizadeh, et al. (2015 Bekrizadeh, H., Parham, G. A., Zadkarami, M. R. (2015). Extending some classes of copulas; Applications. Ph.D. Thesis, University of Shahid Chamran, Ahvaz. [Google Scholar]), and includes some of known copulas. Some general formulas for well-known association measures and concepts of dependence of the proposed model are obtained. This paper highlights the usefulness of this new bivariate copula for modeling the interested variables whose marginal distribution effect on joint distribution isn't identical. We apply some subfamilies of this new class to model a dataset of medical science to show the superiority of presented model in comparison with the known copulas. These results will be investigated using simulation.  相似文献

In this article, a new Pólya urn model is introduced and studied; in particular, a strong law of large numbers and two central limit theorems are proved. This urn generalizes a model studied in Berti et al. (2004 Berti , P. , Pratelli , L. , Rigo , P. ( 2004 ). Limit theorems for a class of identically distributed random variables . Ann. Probab. 32 ( 3A ): 20292052 . [Google Scholar]), May et al. (2005 May , C. , Paganoni , A. M. , Secchi , P. ( 2005 ). On a two-color generalized Pólya urn . Metron 63 ( 1 ): 115134 . [Google Scholar]), and in Crimaldi (2007 Crimaldi , I. ( 2007 ). Almost sure conditional convergence for a generalized Pólya urn. Submitted. Available at: http://amsacta.cib.unibo.it/archive/00002468  [Google Scholar]), and it has natural applications in clinical trials. Indeed, the model includes both delayed and missing (or null) responses. Moreover, a connection with the conditional identity in distribution of Berti et al. (2004 Berti , P. , Pratelli , L. , Rigo , P. ( 2004 ). Limit theorems for a class of identically distributed random variables . Ann. Probab. 32 ( 3A ): 20292052 . [Google Scholar]) is given.  相似文献

This article considers the problem of estimating the population mean on the current (second) occasion using multi-auxiliary information in successive sampling over two occasions. A general class of estimators is proposed for estimating population mean on the current occasion and expressions for bias and mean square error for these estimators are obtained up to first degree of approximation. The minimum variance bound estimator in the proposed class is discussed. Many popular estimators have been shown to belong to this class. Optimum replacement policy is also discussed. Finally, the superiority of the proposed class of estimators over multivariate version of chain type ratio estimator envisaged by Singh (2005 Singh, G.N. (2005). On the use of chain type ratio estimator in successive sampling. Stat Transition 7:2126. [Google Scholar]) is established empirically.  相似文献

The question of how to measure kurtosis in both symmetric and asymmetric distributions is addressed using the kurtosis diagram of Zenga (2006 Zenga , M. ( 2006 ). Kurtosis . In : Kotz , S. , Read , C. B. , Balakrishnan , N. , Vidakovic , B. , eds. Encyclopedia of Statistical Sciences. 2nd ed . New York : John Wiley and Sons . [Google Scholar]). Kurtosis is related to inequality at either side of the median, and we establish a hierarchy of kurtosis orderings in which the kurtosis diagram stands at the weakest level. A sufficient condition for constructing kurtosis measures compatible with such ordering is provided. The merits of the proposed approach in both clarifying and formalizing the idea of kurtosis are evaluated and examples are discussed throughout.  相似文献
