Abstract

In this article, we introduce an extended binomial AR(1) model based on the generalized binomial thinning operator. This operator relaxes the independence assumption of the binomial thinning operator and contains dependent Bernoulli counting series. The new model contains the binomial AR(1) model as a particular case. Some probabilistic and statistical properties are explored. Estimators of the model parameters are derived by conditional maximum likelihood (CML), conditional least squares (CLS) and weighted conditional least squares (WCLS) methods. Some asymptotic properties and numerical results of the estimators are studied. The good performance of the new model is illustrated, among other competitive models in the literature, by an application to the monthly drunken driving counts.  相似文献

In this article, we first introduce an alternative way for construction of the generalized binomial thinning operator with dependent counting series. Some properties of this thinning operator are derived and discussed. Then, by using this thinning operator, we introduce an integer-valued time-series model with geometric marginals. Some conditional and unconditional properties of this model are derived and discussed. Some estimation methods are considered and for some of them, asymptotic properties of the obtained estimates are derived. Performances of the estimates are discussed through some simulations. Finally, a real data example is considered and the goodness-of-fit of this model is compared with the models based on the binomial, negative binomial, and dependent binomial thinning operators.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

New generalized binomial thinning operator with dependent counting series is introduced. An integer valued time series model with geometric marginals based on this thinning operator is constructed. Main features of the process are analyzed and determined. Estimation of the parameters are presented and some asymptotic properties of the obtained estimators are discussed. Behavior of the estimators is described through the numerical results. Also, model is applied on the real data set and compared to some relevant INAR(1) models.  相似文献

Abstract

We construct a new bivariate mixture of negative binomial distributions which represents over-dispersed data more efficiently. This is an extension of a univariate mixture of beta and negative binomial distributions. Characteristics of this joint distribution are studied including conditional distributions. Some properties of the correlation coefficient are explored. We demonstrate the applicability of our proposed model by fitting to three real data sets with correlated count data. A comparison is made with some previously used models to show the effectiveness of the new model.  相似文献

Assuming that the random vectors X 1 and X 2 have independent bivariate Poisson distributions, the conditional distribution of X 1 given X 1?+?X 2?=?n is obtained. The conditional distribution turns out to be a finite mixture of distributions involving univariate binomial distributions and the mixing proportions are based on a bivariate Poisson (BVP) distribution. The result is used to establish two properties of a bivariate Poisson stochastic process which are the bivariate extensions of the properties for a Poisson process given by Karlin, S. and Taylor, H. M. (1975). A First Course in Stochastic Processes, Academic Press, New York.  相似文献

The study of count data time series has been active in the past decade, mainly in theory and model construction. There are different ways to construct time series models with a geometric autocorrelation function, and a given univariate margin such as negative binomial. In this paper, we investigate negative binomial time series models based on the binomial thinning and two other expectation thinning operators, and show how they differ in conditional variance or heteroscedasticity. Since the model construction is in terms of probability generating functions, typically, the relevant conditional probability mass functions do not have explicit forms. In order to do simulations, likelihood inference, graphical diagnostics and prediction, we use a numerical method for inversion of characteristic functions. We illustrate the numerical methods and compare the various negative binomial time series models for a real data example.  相似文献

A mixed integer-valued autoregressive model of order one, based on the binomial and the generalized binomial thinning operator is introduced. Geometric marginal distribution is considered. Properties of the model are analysed, unknown parameters are estimated and some numerical results of the estimates are obtained. Finally, model is applied on two real data sets and compared to some relevant models.  相似文献

In this paper we propose a new stationary first‐order non‐negative integer valued autoregressive process with geometric marginals based on a generalised version of the negative binomial thinning operator. In this manner we obtain another process that we refer to as a generalised stationary integer‐valued autoregressive process of the first order with geometric marginals. This new process will enable one to tackle the problem of overdispersion inherent in the analysis of integer‐valued time series data, and contains the new geometric process as a particular case. In addition various properties of the new process, such as conditional distribution, autocorrelation structure and innovation structure, are derived. We discuss conditional maximum likelihood estimation of the model parameters. We evaluate the performance of the conditional maximum likelihood estimators by a Monte Carlo study. The proposed process is fitted to time series of number of weekly sales (economics) and weekly number of syphilis cases (medicine) illustrating its capabilities in challenging cases of highly overdispersed count data.  相似文献

Consider the logistic linear model, with some explanatory variables overlooked. Those explanatory variables may be quantitative or qualitative. In either case, the resulting true response variable is not a binomial or a beta-binomial but a sum of binomials. Hence, standard computer packages for logistic regression can be inappropriate even if an overdispersion factor is incorporated. Therefore, a discrete exponential family assumption is considered to broaden the class of sampling models. Likelihood and Bayesian analyses are discussed. Bayesian computation techniques such as Laplacian approximations and Markov chain simulations are used to compute posterior densities and moments. Approximate conditional distributions are derived and are shown to be accurate. The Markov chain simulations are performed effectively to calculate posterior moments by using the approximate conditional distributions. The methodology is applied to Keeler's hardness of winter wheat data for checking binomial assumptions and to Matsumura's Accounting exams data for detailed likelihood and Bayesian analyses.  相似文献

We propose a family of extended thinning operators, indexed by a parameter γ in [0, 1), with the boundary case of γ=0 corresponding to the well-known binomial thinning operator. The extended thinning operators can be used to construct a class of continuous-time Markov processes for modeling count time series data. The class of stationary distributions of these processes is called generalized discrete self-decomposable, denoted by DSD (γ). We obtain characterization results for the DSD (γ) class and investigate relationships among the classes for different γ's.  相似文献

A simple result concerning the canonical expansions of mixed bivariate distributions is considered. This result is then applied to analyze the correlation structures of the Bates-Neyman accident proneness model and its generalization, to derive probability inequalities based on the concept of positive dependence, and to construct a bivariate beta distribution with positive correlation coefficient applicable in computer simulation experiments. The mixture formulation of the conditional distribution of this class of mixed bivariate distributions is used to define and generate first-order autoregressive gamma and negative binomial sequences.  相似文献

A new stationary first-order integer-valued autoregressive process with geometric marginal distributions is introduced based on negative binomial thinning. Some properties of the process are established. Estimators of the parameters of the process are obtained using the methods of conditional least squares, Yule–Walker and maximum likelihood. Also, the asymptotic properties of the estimators are derived involving their distributions. Some numerical results of the estimators are presented with a discussion to the obtained results. Real data are used and a possible application is discussed.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Non-stationarity in bivariate time series of counts may be induced by a number of time-varying covariates affecting the bivariate responses due to which the innovation terms of the individual series as well as the bivariate dependence structure becomes non-stationary. So far, in the existing models, the innovation terms of individual INAR(1) series and the dependence structure are assumed to be constant even though the individual time series are non-stationary. Under this assumption, the reliability of the regression and correlation estimates is questionable. Besides, the existing estimation methodologies such as the conditional maximum likelihood (CMLE) and the composite likelihood estimation are computationally intensive. To address these issues, this paper proposes a BINAR(1) model where the innovation series follow a bivariate Poisson distribution under some non-stationary distributional assumptions. The method of generalized quasi-likelihood (GQL) is used to estimate the regression effects while the serial and bivariate correlations are estimated using a robust moment estimation technique. The application of model and estimation method is made in the simulated data. The GQL method is also compared with the CMLE, generalized method of moments (GMM) and generalized estimating equation (GEE) approaches where through simulation studies, it is shown that GQL yields more efficient estimates than GMM and equally or slightly more efficient estimates than CMLE and GEE.  相似文献

We propose a new bivariate negative binomial model with constant correlation structure, which was derived from a contagious bivariate distribution of two independent Poisson mass functions, by mixing the proposed bivariate gamma type density with constantly correlated covariance structure (Iwasaki & Tsubaki, 2005), which satisfies the integrability condition of McCullagh & Nelder (1989, p. 334). The proposed bivariate gamma type density comes from a natural exponential family. Joe (1997) points out the necessity of a multivariate gamma distribution to derive a multivariate distribution with negative binomial margins, and the luck of a convenient form of multivariate gamma distribution to get a model with greater flexibility in a dependent structure with indices of dispersion. In this paper we first derive a new bivariate negative binomial distribution as well as the first two cumulants, and, secondly, formulate bivariate generalized linear models with a constantly correlated negative binomial covariance structure in addition to the moment estimator of the components of the matrix. We finally fit the bivariate negative binomial models to two correlated environmental data sets.  相似文献

Abstract

This paper investigates the parameter-change tests for a class of observation-driven models for count time series. We propose two cumulative sum (CUSUM) test procedures for detection of changes in model parameters. Under regularity conditions, the asymptotic null distributions of the test statistics are established. In addition, the integer-valued generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedastic (INGARCH) processes with conditional negative binomial distributions are investigated. The developed techniques are examined through simulation studies and also are illustrated using an empirical example.  相似文献

Bivariate integer-valued time series occur in many areas, such as finance, epidemiology, business etc. In this article, we present bivariate autoregressive integer-valued time-series models, based on the signed thinning operator. Compared to classical bivariate INAR models, the new processes have the advantage to allow for negative values for both the time series and the autocorrelation functions. Strict stationarity and ergodicity of the processes are established. The moments and the autocovariance functions are determined. The conditional least squares estimator of the model parameters is considered and the asymptotic properties of the obtained estimators are derived. An analysis of a real dataset from finance and a simulation study are carried out to assess the performance of the model.  相似文献

In survey sampling and in stereology, it is often desirable to estimate the ratio of means θ= E(Y)/E(X) from bivariate count data (X, Y) with unknown joint distribution. We review methods that are available for this problem, with particular reference to stereological applications. We also develop new methods based on explicit statistical models for the data, and associated model diagnostics. The methods are tested on a stereological dataset. For point‐count data, binomial regression and bivariate binomial models are generally adequate. Intercept‐count data are often overdispersed relative to Poisson regression models, but adequately fitted by negative binomial regression.  相似文献

We propose a bivariate hurdle negative binomial (BHNB) regression model with right censoring to model correlated bivariate count data with excess zeros and few extreme observations. The parameters of the BHNB regression model are obtained using maximum likelihood with conjugate gradient optimization. The proposed model is applied to actual survey data where the bivariate outcome is number of days missed from primary activities and number of days spent in bed due to illness during the 4-week period preceding the inquiry date. We compared the right censored BHNB model to the right censored bivariate negative binomial (BNB) model. A simulation study is conducted to discuss some properties of the BHNB model. Our proposed model demonstrated superior performance in goodness-of-fit of estimated frequencies.KEYWORDS: Zero inflation, over-dispersion, parameter estimation, model selection, right censoring  相似文献

Thinning operations for modeling time series of counts—a survey   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The analysis of time series of counts is an emerging field of science. To obtain an ARMA-like autocorrelation structure, many models make use of thinning operations to adapt the ARMA recursion to the integer-valued case. Most popular among these probabilistic operations is the concept of binomial thinning, leading to the class of INARMA models. These models are proved to be useful, especially for processes of Poisson counts, but may lead to difficulties in the case of different count distributions. Therefore, several alternative thinning concepts have been developed. This article reviews such thinning operations and shows how they are successfully applied to define integer-valued ARMA models.  相似文献

Two types of shifted geometric integer valued autoregressive models of order one (SGINAR(1)) are proposed. Both are based on the thinning operator generated by counting series of i.i.d. geometric random variables. Their correlation properties are derived and compared. Also, regression and conditional variance are considered. Nonparametric estimators of model parameters are obtained and their asymptotic characterizations are given. Finally, these two models are applied to a real-life data set and they are compared to some referent INAR(1) models.  相似文献
