Some deterministic ridge rules are proposed and their finite sample properties are studied. Further, a simulation study is also conducted. Based on the simulation results, the proposed ridge estimators can improve the mean squared error over the least squares estimator, provided that the condition number of correlation matrices in the regression model is large, say at least 1,000.  相似文献

The relative 'performances of improved ridge estimators and an empirical Bayes estimator are studied by means of Monte Carlo simulations. The empirical Bayes method is seen to perform consistently better in terms of smaller MSE and more accurate empirical coverage than any of the estimators considered here. A bootstrap method is proposed to obtain more reliable estimates of the MSE of ridge esimators. Some theorems on the bootstrap for the ridge estimators are also given and they are used to provide an analytical understanding of the proposed bootstrap procedure. Empirical coverages of the ridge estimators based on the proposed procedure are generally closer to the nominal coverage when compared to their earlier counterparts. In general, except for a few cases, these coverages are still less accurate than the empirical coverages of the empirical Bayes estimator.  相似文献

In the linear regression model with elliptical errors, a shrinkage ridge estimator is proposed. In this regard, the restricted ridge regression estimator under sub-space restriction is improved by incorporating a general function which satisfies Taylor’s series expansion. Approximate quadratic risk function of the proposed shrinkage ridge estimator is evaluated in the elliptical regression model. A Monte Carlo simulation study and analysis based on a real data example are considered for performance analysis. It is evident from the numerical results that the shrinkage ridge estimator performs better than both unrestricted and restricted estimators in the multivariate t-regression model, for some specific cases.  相似文献

In this article, a two-parameter estimator is proposed to combat multicollinearity in the negative binomial regression model. The proposed two-parameter estimator is a general estimator which includes the maximum likelihood (ML) estimator, the ridge estimator (RE) and the Liu estimator as special cases. Some properties on the asymptotic mean-squared error (MSE) are derived and necessary and sufficient conditions for the superiority of the two-parameter estimator over the ML estimator and sufficient conditions for the superiority of the two-parameter estimator over the RE and the Liu estimator in the asymptotic mean-squared error (MSE) matrix sense are obtained. Furthermore, several methods and three rules for choosing appropriate shrinkage parameters are proposed. Finally, a Monte Carlo simulation study is given to illustrate some of the theoretical results.  相似文献

A new modified Jackknifed estimator for the Poisson regression model   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The Poisson regression is very popular in applied researches when analyzing the count data. However, multicollinearity problem arises for the Poisson regression model when the independent variables are highly intercorrelated. Shrinkage estimator is a commonly applied solution to the general problem caused by multicollinearity. Recently, the ridge regression (RR) estimators and some methods for estimating the ridge parameter k in the Poisson regression have been proposed. It has been found that some estimators are better than the commonly used maximum-likelihood (ML) estimator and some other RR estimators. In this study, the modified Jackknifed Poisson ridge regression (MJPR) estimator is proposed to remedy the multicollinearity. A simulation study and a real data example are provided to evaluate the performance of estimators. Both mean-squared error and the percentage relative error are considered as the performance criteria. The simulation study and the real data example results show that the proposed MJPR method outperforms the Poisson ridge regression, Jackknifed Poisson ridge regression and the ML in all of the different situations evaluated in this paper.  相似文献

Ridge regression solves multicollinearity problems by introducing a biasing parameter that is called ridge parameter; it shrinks the estimates and their standard errors in order to reach acceptable results. Selection of the ridge parameter was done using several subjective and objective techniques that are concerned with certain criteria. In this study, selection of the ridge parameter depends on other important statistical measures to reach a better value of the ridge parameter. The proposed ridge parameter selection technique depends on a mathematical programming model and the results are evaluated using a simulation study. The performance of the proposed method is good when the error variance is greater than or equal to one; the sample consists of 20 observations, the number of explanatory variables in the model is 2, and there is a very strong correlation between the two explanatory variables.  相似文献

Swindel (1976) introduced a modified ridge regression estimator based on prior information. A necessary and sufficient condition is derived for Swindel's proposed estimator to have lower risk than the conventional ordinary ridge regression estimator when both estimators are computed using the same value of k.  相似文献

Consider the linear regression model y =β01 ++ in the usual notation. It is argued that the class of ordinary ridge estimators obtained by shrinking the least squares estimator by the matrix (X1X + kI)-1X'X is sensitive to outliers in the ^variable. To overcome this problem, we propose a new class of ridge-type M-estimators, obtained by shrinking an M-estimator (instead of the least squares estimator) by the same matrix. Since the optimal value of the ridge parameter k is unknown, we suggest a procedure for choosing it adaptively. In a reasonably large scale simulation study with a particular M-estimator, we found that if the conditions are such that the M-estimator is more efficient than the least squares estimator then the corresponding ridge-type M-estimator proposed here is better, in terms of a Mean Squared Error criteria, than the ordinary ridge estimator with k chosen suitably. An example illustrates that the estimators proposed here are less sensitive to outliers in the y-variable than ordinary ridge estimators.  相似文献

Several existing methods for the choice of the ridge parameter are reviewed, and a bootstrap method is proposed. The bootstrap provides independent measures of prediction errors based on multiple predictions along with an estimate of the standard error of prediction. The bootstrap and selected competitors are compared through Monte Carlo simulations for various degrees of design matrix collinearity and varying levels of signal-to-noise ratio. The procedure is also illustrated by application to two published data sets. In one case, the bootstrap choice of the ridge parameter leads to a smaller mean squared error of prediction than the ridge trace method. In the second case, an optimal choice of no perturbation is confirmed. Benefits of the bootstrap choice include its less subjective nature, ease of implementation, and robustness.  相似文献

This paper proposes a number of procedures for developing new biased estimators of the seemingly unrelated regression (SUR) parameters, when the explanatory variables are affected by multicollinearity. Several ridge parameters are proposed and then compared in terms of the trace mean squared error (TMSE) and (PR) criteria. The PR criterion is the proportion of replication (out of 1,000) for which the SUR version of the generalized least squares (SGLS) estimator has a smaller TMSE than others. The study was performed using Monte Carlo simulations where the number of equations in the system, the number of observations, the correlation among equations, and the correlation between explanatory variables have been varied. For each model, we performed 1,000 replications. Our results show that under certain conditions some of the proposed SUR ridge parameters, (R Sgeom , R Skmed , R Sqarith , and R Sqmax ), performed well when compared, in terms of TMSE and PR criteria, with other proposed and popular existing ridge parameters. In large samples and when the collinearity between the explanatory variables is not high, the unbiased SUR estimator (SGLS), performed better than the other ridge parameters.  相似文献

The problem of selecting exponential populations better than a control under a simple ordering prior is investigated. Based on some prior information, it is appropriate to set lower bounds for the concerned parameters. The information about the lower bounds of the concerned parameters is taken into account to derive isotonic selection rules for the control known case. An isotonic selection rule for the control unknown case is also proposed. A criterion is proposed to evaluate the performance of the selection rules. Simulation comparisons among the performances of several selection rules are carried out. The simulation results indicate that for the control known case, the new proposed selection rules perform better than some earlier existing selection rules.  相似文献

Presence of collinearity among the explanatory variables results in larger standard errors of parameters estimated. When multicollinearity is present among the explanatory variables, the ordinary least-square (OLS) estimators tend to be unstable due to larger variance of the estimators of the regression coefficients. As alternatives to OLS estimators few ridge estimators are available in the literature. This article presents some of the popular ridge estimators and attempts to provide (i) a generalized class of ridge estimators and (ii) a modified ridge estimator. The performance of the proposed estimators is investigated with the help of Monte Carlo simulation technique. Simulation results indicate that the suggested estimators perform better than the ordinary least-square (OLS) estimators and other estimators considered in this article.  相似文献

Shrinkage estimator is a commonly applied solution to the general problem caused by multicollinearity. Recently, the ridge regression (RR) estimators for estimating the ridge parameter k in the negative binomial (NB) regression have been proposed. The Jackknifed estimators are obtained to remedy the multicollinearity and reduce the bias. A simulation study is provided to evaluate the performance of estimators. Both mean squared error (MSE) and the percentage relative error (PRE) are considered as the performance criteria. The simulated result indicated that some of proposed Jackknifed estimators should be preferred to the ML method and ridge estimators to reduce MSE and bias.  相似文献

Several biased estimators have been proposed as alternatives to the least squares estimator when multicollinearity is present in the multiple linear regression model. The ridge estimator and the principal components estimator are two techniques that have been proposed for such problems. In this paper the class of fractional principal component estimators is developed for the multiple linear regression model. This class contains many of the biased estimators commonly used to combat multicollinearity. In the fractional principal components framework, two new estimation techniques are introduced. The theoretical performances of the new estimators are evaluated and their small sample properties are compared via simulation with the ridge, generalized ridge and principal components estimators  相似文献

A new stochastic mixed ridge estimator in linear regression model   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This paper is concerned with the parameter estimation in linear regression model with additional stochastic linear restrictions. To overcome the multicollinearity problem, a new stochastic mixed ridge estimator is proposed and its efficiency is discussed. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the superiority of the stochastic mixed ridge estimator over the ridge estimator and the mixed estimator in the mean squared error matrix sense are derived for the two cases in which the parametric restrictions are correct and are not correct. Finally, a numerical example is also given to show the theoretical results.  相似文献

This article adapts to the regional level a multicountry technique recently used by Garcia-Ferrer, Highfield, Palm, and Zellner (1987) and extended by Zellner and Hong (1987) to forecast the growth rates in gross national product across nine countries. This forecasting methodology is applied to the regional level by modeling payroll formation in seven Ohio metropolitan areas. We compare the forecasting performance of these procedures with that of a ridge estimator and find that the ridge estimator produces forecasts equal to or better than those from the newly proposed estimators. We conclude that the ridge estimator, which does not reference the pooled data information introduced by the newly proposed techniques, may serve as a benchmark against which to judge the relative importance of this kind of information in improving forecasts.  相似文献

Ridge regression is the alternative method to ordinary least squares, which is mostly applied when a multiple linear regression model presents a worrying degree of collinearity. A relevant topic in ridge regression is the selection of the ridge parameter, and different proposals have been presented in the scientific literature. Since the ridge estimator is biased, its estimation is normally based on the calculation of the mean square error (MSE) without considering (to the best of our knowledge) whether the proposed value for the ridge parameter really mitigates the collinearity. With this goal and different simulations, this paper proposes to estimate the ridge parameter from the determinant of the matrix of correlation of the data, which verifies that the variance inflation factor (VIF) is lower than the traditionally established threshold. The possible relation between the VIF and the determinant of the matrix of correlation is also analysed. Finally, the contribution is illustrated with three real examples.  相似文献

Conventionally, a ridge parameter is estimated as a function of regression parameters based on ordinary least squares. In this article, we proposed an iterative procedure instead of the one-step or conventional ridge method. Additionally, we construct an indicator that measures the potential degree of improvement in mean squared error when ridge estimates are employed. Simulations show that our methods are appropriate for a wide class of non linear models including generalized linear models and proportional hazards (PHs) regressions. The method is applied to a PH regression with highly collinear covariates in a cancer recurrence study.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce a ridge estimator for the vector of parameters β in a semiparametric model when additional linear restrictions on the parameter vector are assumed to hold. We also obtain the semiparametric restricted ridge estimator for the parametric component in the semiparametric regression model. The ideas in this article are illustrated with a data set consisting of housing prices and through a comparison of the performances of the proposed and related estimators via a Monte Carlo simulation.  相似文献
