Testing for ordered failure rates under general progressive censoring   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
For exponentially distributed failure times under general progressive censoring schemes, testing procedures for ordered failure rates are proposed using the likelihood ratio principle. Constrained maximum likelihood estimators of the failure rates are found. The asymptotic distributions of the test statistics are shown to be mixtures of chi-square distributions. When testing the equality of the failure rates, a simulation study shows that the proposed test with restricted alternative has improved power over the usual chi-square statistic with an unrestricted alternative. The proposed methods are illustrated using data of survival times of patients with squamous carcinoma of the oropharynx.  相似文献

Asymptotic expansions of the joint distributions of functions of sample means and central moments up to an arbitrary order in multiple populations are given by Edgeworth expansions. The asymptotic distributions of the parameter estimators in moment structures under null/fixed alternative hypotheses and the chi-square statistics based on asymptotically distribution-free theory under fixed alternatives are given as applications of the above results. Asymptotic expansions of the null distributions of the chi-square statistics are also derived. For parameter estimators with the chi-square statistic, the linearized estimators are dealt with as well as fully iterated estimators.  相似文献

The procedure-wise power functions of two strategies for balanced single-factor analysis of covariance in the presence of possibly unequal regression slopes are evaluated and illustrated. The strategies differ in the action to be taken following a re-^ jection by the preliminary test for equal slopes. The first strategy simply discards the covariate and respecifies the model as the one-way ANOVA model for testing factor effects. The second leaves the unequal slopes covariance model intact, but respecifies the factor effects hypothesis to address the factor level means adjusted to the sample average of the covariate. One additional strategy, that of testing factor effects only if the preliminary slopes test does not reject, is included for comparison purposes. Computation of the power functions requires extensive use of the results obtained in Hawkins and Han (1986) concerning the bivariate distributions of certain ratios of independent noncentral chi-square random variables.  相似文献

It is shown that if a binary regression function is increasing then retrospective sampling induces a stochastic ordering of the covariate distributions among the responders, which we call cases, and the non-responders, which we call controls. We also show that if the covariate distributions are stochastically ordered then the regression function must be increasing. This means that testing whether the regression function is monotone is equivalent to testing whether the covariate distributions are stochastically ordered. Capitalizing on these new probabilistic observations we proceed to develop two new non-parametric tests for stochastic order. The new tests are based on either the maximally selected, or integrated, chi-bar statistic of order one. The tests are easy to compute and interpret and their large sampling distributions are easily found. Numerical comparisons show that they compare favorably with existing methods in both small and large samples. We emphasize that the new tests are applicable to any testing problem involving two stochastically ordered distributions.  相似文献

We consider a modelling approach to longitudinal data that aims at estimating flexible covariate effects in a model where the sampling probabilities are modelled explicitly. The joint modelling yields simple estimators that are easy to compute and analyse, even if the sampling of the longitudinal responses interacts with the response level. An incorrect model for the sampling probabilities results in biased estimates. Non-representative sampling occurs, for example, if patients with an extreme development (based on extreme values of the response) are called in for additional examinations and measurements. We allow covariate effects to be time-varying or time-constant. Estimates of covariate effects are obtained by solving martingale equations locally for the cumulative regression functions. Using Aalen's additive model for the sampling probabilities, we obtain simple expressions for the estimators and their asymptotic variances. The asymptotic distributions for the estimators of the non-parametric components as well as the parametric components of the model are derived drawing on general martingale results. Two applications are presented. We consider the growth of cystic fibrosis patients and the prothrombin index for liver cirrhosis patients. The conclusion about the growth of the cystic fibrosis patients is not altered when adjusting for a possible non-representativeness in the sampling, whereas we reach substantively different conclusions about the treatment effect for the liver cirrhosis patients.  相似文献

Semiparametric maximum likelihood estimators have recently been proposed for a class of two‐phase, outcome‐dependent sampling models. All of them were “restricted” maximum likelihood estimators, in the sense that the maximization is carried out only over distributions concentrated on the observed values of the covariate vectors. In this paper, the authors give conditions for consistency of these restricted maximum likelihood estimators. They also consider the corresponding unrestricted maximization problems, in which the “absolute” maximum likelihood estimators may then have support on additional points in the covariate space. Their main consistency result also covers these unrestricted maximum likelihood estimators, when they exist for all sample sizes.  相似文献

We propose some estimators of noncentrality parameters which improve upon usual unbiased estimators under quadratic loss. The distributions we consider are the noncentral chi-square and the noncentral F. However, we give more general results for the family of elliptically contoured distributions and propose a robust dominating estimator.  相似文献

Cox's partial likelihood for censored time-to-event data can be interpreted as a permutation probability, whereby covariate values are permuted to the observed times-to-event and censoring times. This interpretation facilitates a simple method for jointly generating times-to-event and covariate tuples with considerable flexibility, including time dependence of the hazard ratio and specification of both the marginal time-to-event and covariate distributions. This interpretation also facilitates a method for semi-parametric bootstrapping of hazard ratio estimators.  相似文献

Structured means have been used in studying possible covariate effects on responses, whereas patterned covariances deal with random effects, missing data, and differing study designs. In this article, we develop new multivariate models with patterned means and covariance matrices to deal with special structures of the post-mortem brain tissue data collected in the Conte Center for the Neuroscience of Mental Disorders at the University of Pittsburgh. We obtain maximum likelihood estimates via the method of scoring for these new structured models. One-iteration estimators from a consistent starting point are used to derive the asymptotic distributions. The model fitting algorithms, as well as the asymptotic distributions, are examined using simulated data, and are applied to data from post-mortem tissue studies in schizophrenia.  相似文献

A new generalized logarithmic series distribution (GLSD) with two parameters is proposed. The proposed model is flexible enough to describe short-tailed as well as long-tailed data. Some recurence relations for its probabilities and the factorial moments are presente. These recurrence relations are utilized to obtain the minimum chi-square estimators for the parmaters.Maximum likelihood estimators and some other estimators based on first few moments and probabilities are also suggested.Asymptotic relative efficiency of some of these estimators is also obtained and compared. Two test statistics based on the minimum chi-square estimators fo testing some hypotheses regarding the GLSD are proposed. The fit of the model and the application of the test statistics are exemplified by some data sets. Finally, a graphical method is suggested for differentiating between the ordinary logarithmic series distribution and the GLSD.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the problem of testing hypotheses in parametric models, when only the first r (of n) ordered observations are known.Using divergence measures, a procedure to test statistical hypotheses is proposed, Replacing the parameters by suitable estimators in the expresion of the divergence measure, the test statistics are obtained.Asymptotic distributions for these statistics are given in several cases when maximum likelihood estimators for truncated samples are considered.Applications of these results in testing statistical hypotheses, on the basis of truncated data, are presented. The small sample behavior of the proposed test statistics is analyzed in particular cases.A comparative study of power values is carried out by computer simulation.  相似文献

We first consider the problem of estimating the common mean of two normal distributions with unknown ordered variances. We give a broad class of estimators which includes the estimators proposed by Nair (1982) and Elfessi et al. (1992) and show that the estimators stochastically dominate the estimators which do not take into account the order restriction on variances, including the one given by Graybill and Deal (1959). Then we propose a broad class of individual estimators of two ordered means when unknown variances are ordered. We show that in estimating the mean with larger variance, estimators which do not take into account the order restriction on variances are stochastically dominated by the proposed class of estimators which take into account both order restrictions. However, in estimating the mean with smaller variance, similar improvement is not possible even in terms of mean squared error. We also show a domination result in the simultaneous estimation problem of two ordered means. Further, improving upon the unbiased estimators of the two means is discussed.  相似文献

Some equivariant estimators of the dispersion matrix of a multivariate normal population are compared using the generalized Pitman nearness criterion based on the entropy loss function. It is shown that, under the group of lower triangular transformations, a best equivariant estimator does not exist. Existence of best estimators in certain subclasses are discussed and the performances of two commonly used estimators are compared. Some properties of central chi-square distributions are obtained and used to derive the main results.  相似文献

Bootstrapping the conditional copula   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This paper is concerned with inference about the dependence or association between two random variables conditionally upon the given value of a covariate. A way to describe such a conditional dependence is via a conditional copula function. Nonparametric estimators for a conditional copula then lead to nonparametric estimates of conditional association measures such as a conditional Kendall's tau. The limiting distributions of nonparametric conditional copula estimators are rather involved. In this paper we propose a bootstrap procedure for approximating these distributions and their characteristics, and establish its consistency. We apply the proposed bootstrap procedure for constructing confidence intervals for conditional association measures, such as a conditional Blomqvist beta and a conditional Kendall's tau. The performances of the proposed methods are investigated via a simulation study involving a variety of models, ranging from models in which the dependence (weak or strong) on the covariate is only through the copula and not through the marginals, to models in which this dependence appears in both the copula and the marginal distributions. As a conclusion we provide practical recommendations for constructing bootstrap-based confidence intervals for the discussed conditional association measures.  相似文献

This paper states and proves the asymptotic properties of constrained generalized least squares estimators in the analysis of covariance structures in multiple populations with arbitrary distributions of variables. Asymptotic chi-square tests are also presented to permit evaluation of the goodness-of-fit of models. The currently known results for multiple population models based on variables that are multivariate normally distributed are obtained as a special case.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we consider the best linear unbiased estimators (BLUEs) based on double ranked set sampling (DRSS) and ordered DRSS (ODRSS) schemes for the simple linear regression model with replicated observations. We assume three symmetric distributions for the random error term, i.e., normal, Laplace and some scale contaminated normal distributions. The proposed BLUEs under DRSS (BLUEs-DRSS) and ODRSS (BLUEs-ODRSS) are compared with the BLUEs based on ordered simple random sampling (OSRS), ranked set sampling (RSS), and ordered RSS (ORSS) schemes. These estimators are compared in terms of relative efficiency (RE), RE of determinant (RED), and RE of trace (RET). It is found that the BLUEs-ODRSS are uniformly better than the BLUEs based on OSRS, RSS, ORSS, and DRSS schemes. We also compare the estimators based on imperfect RSS (IRSS) schemes. It is worth mentioning here that the BLUEs under ordered imperfect DRSS (OIDRSS) are better than their counterparts based on IRSS, ordered IRSS (OIRSS), and imperfect DRSS (IDRSS) methods. Moreover, for sensitivity analysis of the BLUEs, we calculate REs and REDs of the BLUEs under the assumption of normality when in fact the parent distribution follows a non normal symmetric distribution. It turns out that even under violation of normality assumptions, BLUEs of the intercept and the slope parameters are found to be unbiased with equal REs under each sampling scheme. It is also observed that the BLUEs under ODRSS are more efficient than the existing BLUEs.  相似文献

The generalized semiparametric mixed varying‐coefficient effects model for longitudinal data can accommodate a variety of link functions and flexibly model different types of covariate effects, including time‐constant, time‐varying and covariate‐varying effects. The time‐varying effects are unspecified functions of time and the covariate‐varying effects are nonparametric functions of a possibly time‐dependent exposure variable. A semiparametric estimation procedure is developed that uses local linear smoothing and profile weighted least squares, which requires smoothing in the two different and yet connected domains of time and the time‐dependent exposure variable. The asymptotic properties of the estimators of both nonparametric and parametric effects are investigated. In addition, hypothesis testing procedures are developed to examine the covariate effects. The finite‐sample properties of the proposed estimators and testing procedures are examined through simulations, indicating satisfactory performances. The proposed methods are applied to analyze the AIDS Clinical Trial Group 244 clinical trial to investigate the effects of antiretroviral treatment switching in HIV‐infected patients before and after developing the T215Y antiretroviral drug resistance mutation. In this article, we propose a general class of partially linear transformation models for recurrent gap time data, which extends the linear transformation models by incorporating non linear covariate effects and includes the partially linear proportional hazards and the partially linear proportional odds models as special cases. Both global and local estimating equations are developed to estimate the parametric and non parametric covariate effects, and the asymptotic properties of the resulting estimators are established. The finite-sample behavior of the proposed estimators is evaluated through simulation studies, and an application to a clinic study on chronic granulomatous disease is provided.  相似文献

Consider distributions F and G such that G -1 F is star-shaped. In the problem of estimating the quantile functions for lifetime distributions, the estimators developed by Rojo (1998) are compared with the commonly used empirical quantile function. Both the one-sample and the two-sample methods of estimation are considered for a wide class of lifetime distributions. In addition, the behavior of the estimators is examined for star-shaped ordered lifetime distributions of the important class of coherent k- out-of-n reliability systems. Results of a Monte Carlo study are presented which compare the behavior of the new estimators with that of the empirical quantile function interms of bias and mean-squared error. As the behavior of these estimators typically depends on the tail behavior of the underlying distributions, the examples presented here include distributions with short, medium and long tails. A formula for the inverse of the Kaplan-Meier estimator is provided and used to generate the simulations in the case of censored data.  相似文献

The accuracy of a diagnostic test is typically characterized using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Summarizing indexes such as the area under the ROC curve (AUC) are used to compare different tests as well as to measure the difference between two populations. Often additional information is available on some of the covariates which are known to influence the accuracy of such measures. The authors propose nonparametric methods for covariate adjustment of the AUC. Models with normal errors and possibly non‐normal errors are discussed and analyzed separately. Nonparametric regression is used for estimating mean and variance functions in both scenarios. In the model that relaxes the assumption of normality, the authors propose a covariate‐adjusted Mann–Whitney estimator for AUC estimation which effectively uses available data to construct working samples at any covariate value of interest and is computationally efficient for implementation. This provides a generalization of the Mann–Whitney approach for comparing two populations by taking covariate effects into account. The authors derive asymptotic properties for the AUC estimators in both settings, including asymptotic normality, optimal strong uniform convergence rates and mean squared error (MSE) consistency. The MSE of the AUC estimators was also assessed in smaller samples by simulation. Data from an agricultural study were used to illustrate the methods of analysis.
