After initiating the theory of optimal design by Smith (1918), many optimality criteria were introduced. Atkinson et al. (2007) used the definition of compound design criteria to combine two optimality criteria and introduced the DT- and CD-optimalities criteria. This paper introduces the CDT-optimum design that provides a specified balance between model discrimination, parameter estimation and estimation of a parametric function such as the area under curve in models for drug absorbance. An equivalence theorem is presented for the case of two models.  相似文献

Classical regression analysis is usually performed in two steps. In the first step, an appropriate model is identified to describe the data generating process and in the second step, statistical inference is performed in the identified model. An intuitively appealing approach to the design of experiment for these different purposes are sequential strategies, which use parts of the sample for model identification and adapt the design according to the outcome of the identification steps. In this article, we investigate the finite sample properties of two sequential design strategies, which were recently proposed in the literature. A detailed comparison of sequential designs for model discrimination in several regression models is given by means of a simulation study. Some non-sequential designs are also included in the study.  相似文献

Two-level designs are useful to examine a large number of factors in an efficient manner. It is typically anticipated that only a few factors will be identified as important ones. The results can then be reanalyzed using a projection of the original design, projected into the space of the factors that matter. An interesting question is how many intrinsically different type of projections are possible from an initial given design. We examine this question here for the Plackett and Burman screening series with N= 12, 20 and 24 runs and projected dimensions k≤5. As a characterization criterion, we look at the number of repeat and mirror-image runs in the projections. The idea can be applied toany two-level design projected into fewer dimensions.  相似文献

A new class of row-column designs is proposed. These designs are saturated in terms of eliminating two-way heterogeneity with an additive model. The proposed designs are treatment-connected, i.e., all paired comparisons of treatments in the designs are estimable in spite of the existence of row and column effects. The connectedness of the designs is justified from two perspectives: linear model and contrast estimability. Comparisons with other designs are studied in terms of A-, D-, E-efficiencies as well as design balance.  相似文献

A necessary and sufficient condition for the connectedness of an m-associate-class PBIB design is derived in a form, and using an approach, different from those in Ogawa, Ikeda, and Kageyama (1984) and Saha and Kageyama (1984). We briefly review and discuss design issues for population growth and decline models. We then use a flexible growth and decline model as an illustrative example and apply optimal design theory to find optimal sampling times for estimating model parameters, specific parameters and interesting functions of the model parameters for the model with two real applications. Robustness properties of the optimal designs are investigated when nominal values or the model is mis-specified, and also under a different optimality criterion. To facilitate use of optimal design ideas in practice, we also introduce a website for generating a variety of optimal designs for popular models from different disciplines.  相似文献

Designs for multifactor mixture experiments in which the component proportions are restricted by some specified lower and upper limits, are called restricted region designs (RRD) for multifactor mixture experiments. In this paper (i) a method of construction of designs for multifactor mixture experiments and (ii) two methods of constructing RRD for multifactor mixture experiments are described. In this article optimality of experimental design for fitting a lower-order polynomial to a higher order response function for the situation in which observations may be subject to shift in means as well as in variances is considered. It is found that Karson, Manson and Hader‘s (1969) optimum designs provide pro-tection, in some sense, against model inadequacies even when observations are subject to shift in means and variances.  相似文献

Criterion is essential for measuring the goodness of an experimental design. In this paper, lower bounds of various criteria in experimental designs will be reviewed according to methodology of their construction. The criteria include most well-known ones which are frequently used as benchmarks for orthogonal array, uniform design, supersaturated design and other types of designs. To derive the lower bounds of these criteria, five different approaches are explored. Some new results are given. Throughout the paper, some relationships among different types of lower bounds are also discussed.  相似文献

Summary This paper is concerned with the designs in which each experimental unit is assigned more than once to a treatment, either different or identical. An easy method of constructing balanced minimal repeated measurements designs with unequal period sizes is presented whenever the number of periods is less than the number of treatments. Strongly balanced minimal repeated measurements designs with unequal period sizes are also constructed whenever the number of periods is less than the number of treatments.  相似文献

Minimal square designs are proposed and compared. All treatment contrasts in both designs are estimable under the existence of two-way heterogeneity. That is, all designs are treatment-connected. Extended treatment-connected designs are generated by adding one column to minimal treatment-connected square designs. The extended designs not only have lower variances in paired comparisons of unreplicated treatments but also provide necessary degrees of freedom to estimate the process error. (M,S)-optimal extended designs are constructed systematically. Both square designs and their extensions have large numbers of unreplicated treatments.  相似文献

It is assumed that the measurement errors have different variances. The lowest bound of the trace of the dispersion matrix is obtained and the conditions when this lowest bound is achieved are given. Supersaturated designs are an increasingly popular tool for screening factors in the presence of effect sparsity. The advantage of this class of designs over resolution III factorial designs or Plackett–Burman designs is that n, the number of runs, can be substantially smaller than the number of factors, m. A limitation associated with most supersaturated designs produced thus far is that the capability of these designs for estimating g active effects has not been discussed. In addition to exploring this capability, we develop a new class of model-robust supersaturated designs that, for a given n and m, maximizes the number g   of active effects that can be estimated simultaneously. The capabilities of model-robust supersaturated designs for model discrimination are assessed using a model-discrimination criterion, the subspace angle. Finally, we introduce the class of partially supersaturated designs, intended for use when we require a specific subset of m1m1 core factors to be estimable, and the sparsity of effects principle applies to the remaining (m-m1m-m1) factors.  相似文献

Optimal main effects plans (MEPs) and optimal foldover designs can often be performed as a series of nested optimal designs. Then, if the experiment cannot be completed due to time or budget constraints, the fraction already performed may still be an optimal design. We show that the optimal MEP for 4t factors in 4t + 4 points does not contain the optimal MEP for 4t factors in 4t + 2 points nested within it. In general, the optimal MEP for 4t factors in 4t + 4 points does not contain the optimal MEPs for 4t factors in 4t + 1, 4t + 2, or 4t + 3 points and the optimal MEP for 4t + 1 factors in 4t + 4 points does not contain the optimal MEPs for 4t + 1 factors in 4t + 2 or 4t + 3 points. We also show that the runs in an orthogonal design for 4t factors in 4t + 4 points, and the optimal foldover designs obtained by folding, should be performed in a certain sequence in order to avoid the possibility of a singular X'X matrix.  相似文献

Fries and Hunter ( 1980 ) proposed the Minimum Aberration criterion (MA) for selecting regular designs. The regular designs with MA are msot commonly used because they are considered as the best designs. How ever, as pointed out by Chen, Sun and Wu ( 1993 ), there are situations that other designs may better meet the design need. Therefore, they catalogued some two-level and three-level fractional factorial regular designs with small (16,27,32,64) runs. For nonregular designs, such as the ones taken from Hadamard matrices, the MA criterion is not appUcable. Deng and Tang ( 1999 ) introduced Generalized Minimum Aberration Criterion (GMA) as a natural extension to the MA criterion. Similar to the case in the regular designs, other designs may better meet practical need, In this paper, we use the GMA criterion to give a catalogue of nonregular designs with smaU (16,20,24) runs.  相似文献
