In this paper, two bivariate exponential distributions based on time(right) censored samples are presented. We assume that the censoring time is independent of the life-times of the two components. This paper obtains comparison of different tests for testing zero and non-zero values of the parameter λ3 which measures the degree of

dependence between the two components and also testing symmetry of the two components or λ12 in

the bivariate exponential distribution (BVED) formulated by Marshall and Olkin (1967) based on the above censored sample. It is observed from simulated study that the test based on MLE's performs better in both tests of independence as well as symmetry. The above results have been extended also in Block and Basu (19874) model.  相似文献

Failure to adjust for informative non‐compliance, a common phenomenon in endpoint trials, can lead to a considerably underpowered study. However, standard methods for sample size calculation assume that non‐compliance is non‐informative. One existing method to account for informative non‐compliance, based on a two‐subpopulation model, is limited with respect to the degree of association between the risk of non‐compliance and the risk of a study endpoint that can be modelled, and with respect to the maximum allowable rates of non‐compliance and endpoints. In this paper, we introduce a new method that largely overcomes these limitations. This method is based on a model in which time to non‐compliance and time to endpoint are assumed to follow a bivariate exponential distribution. Parameters of the distribution are obtained by equating them with the study design parameters. The impact of informative non‐compliance is investigated across a wide range of conditions, and the method is illustrated by recalculating the sample size of a published clinical trial. In the literature, assuming independence of random variables X and Y, statistical estimation of the stress–strength parameter R = P(X > Y) is intensively investigated. However, in some real applications, the strength variable X could be highly dependent on the stress variable Y. In this paper, unlike the common practice in the literature, we discuss on estimation of the parameter R where more realistically X and Y are dependent random variables distributed as bivariate Rayleigh model. We derive the Bayes estimates and highest posterior density credible intervals of the parameters using suitable priors on the parameters. Because there are not closed forms for the Bayes estimates, we will use an approximation based on Laplace method and a Markov Chain Monte Carlo technique to obtain the Bayes estimate of R and unknown parameters. Finally, simulation studies are conducted in order to evaluate the performances of the proposed estimators and analysis of two data sets are provided.  相似文献

This paper considers the problem of estimating the probability P = Pr(X < Y) when X and Y are independent exponential random variables with unequal scale parameters and a common location parameter. Uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimator of P is obtained. The asymptotic distribution of the maximum likelihood estimator is obtained and then the asymptotic equivalence of the two estimators is established. Performance of the two estimators for moderate sample sizes is studied by Monte Carlo simulation. An approximate interval estimator is also obtained.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The problem of estimation of R = P(Y < X) have been used in the paper. Let X has exponential distribution mixing with exponential distribution with parameters β and θ and Y independently of X has exponential distribution with parameter λ. By using a prior guess or estimate R0, different shrinkage estimators of R are derived. Then the performance of the estimators are discussed. Finally, we compare these results with Baklizei and Dayyeh (2003) approaches.  相似文献

This paper provides a simulation study which compares three estimators for R = P(Y<X) when Y and X are two independent but not identically distributed Burr random variables. These estimators are the minimum variance unbiased, the maximum likelihood and Bayes estimators. Moreover, the sensitivity of Bayes estimator to the prior parameters is considered.  相似文献

When F = Ga, confidence intervals are derived and presented in graphs for p = P(Y < X), when X and Y are independent and the sample sizes are at most 25. Also, it is demonstrated via a monte carlo simulation that this is a robust procedure, when the distributions of X and Y differ by a location parameter.  相似文献

This article considers the maximum likelihood and Bayes estimation of the stress–strength reliability based on two-parameter generalized exponential records. Here, we extend the results of Baklizi [Computational Statistics and Data Analysis 52 (2008), 3468–3473] to explain a wide variety of real datasets. We also consider the estimation of R when the same shape parameter is known. The results for exponential distribution can be obtained as a special case with different scale parameters.  相似文献

A generalization of the Poisson distribution was defined by Consul and Jain (Ann. Math. Statist., 41, (1970)) and was obtained as a particular family of Lagrange distributions by Consul and Shenton (SIAM. J. Appl. Math., 23, (1972)). The distribution is subsequently named the generalized Poisson distribution (GPD). This GPD reduces to the Poisson distribution for ? = 0. When the data have a one-way layout structure, the asymptotically locally optimal Neyman's C(d) test is constructed and compared with the conditional test on the hypothesis Ho? = 0. Within the framework of the generalized linear models an appropriate link function is given, and the asymptotic distributions of the estimated parameters are derived.  相似文献

This paper deals with the estimation of reliability R = P(Y < X) when X is a random strength of a component subjected to a random stress Y, and (X, Y) follows a bivariate Rayleigh distribution. The maximum likelihood estimator of R and its asymptotic distribution are obtained. An asymptotic confidence interval of R is constructed using the asymptotic distribution. Also, two confidence intervals are proposed based on Bootstrap method and a computational approach. Testing of the reliability based on asymptotic distribution of R is discussed. Simulation study to investigate performance of the confidence intervals and tests has been carried out. Also, a numerical example is given to illustrate the proposed approaches.  相似文献

The structural-inference approach to predictive distributions is used to derive the estimator of P = Pr{Yp > max(Y1, …, Yp-1)} when the independent random variables Y1, …, Yp follow exponential distributions with unequal location parameters and equal scale parameters. The result is Equation (4.6).  相似文献

Income and wealth data are typically modelled by some variant of the classical Pareto distribution. Often, in practice, the observed data are truncated with respect to some unobserved covariate. In this paper, a hidden truncation formulation of this scenario is proposed and analysed. For this purpose, a bivariate Pareto (IV) distribution is assumed for the variable of interest and the unobserved covariate. Some important distributional properties of the resulting model as well as associated inferential methods are studied. An example is used finally to illustrate the results developed here. In this case, it is noted that hidden truncation on the left does not result in any new model, but the hidden truncation on the right does. The properties and fit of such a model pose a challenging problem and that is what is focused here in this work.  相似文献

We consider confidence intervals for the stress–strength reliability Pr(X< Y) in the two-parameter exponential distribution. We have derived the Bayesian highest posterior density interval using non-informative prior distributions. We have compared its performance with the intervals based on the generalized pivot variable intervals in terms of their coverage probabilities and expected lengths. Our simulation study shows that the Bayesian interval performs better according to the criteria used, especially when the sample sizes are very small. An example is given.  相似文献

A unified approach is developed for testing hypotheses in the general linear model based on the ranks of the residuals. It complements the nonparametric estimation procedures recently reported in the literature. The testing and estimation procedures together provide a robust alternative to least squares. The methods are similar in spirit to least squares so that results are simple to interpret. Hypotheses concerning a subset of specified parameters can be tested, while the remaining parameters are treated as nuisance parameters. Asymptotically, the test statistic is shown to have a chi-square distribution under the null hypothesis. This result is then extended to cover a sequence of contiguous alternatives from which the Pitman efficacy is derived. The general application of the test requires the consistent estimation of a functional of the underlying distribution and one such estimate is furnished.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with testing the equality of scale parameters of K(> 2) two-parameter exponential distributions in presence of unspecified location parameters based on complete and type II censored samples. We develop a marginal likelihood ratio statistic, a quadratic statistic (Qu) (Nelson, 1982) based on maximum marginal likelihood estimates of the scale parameters under the null and the alternative hypotheses, a C(a) statistic (CPL) (Neyman, 1959) based on the profile likelihood estimate of the scale parameter under the null hypothesis and an extremal scale parameter ratio statistic (ESP) (McCool, 1979). We show that the marginal likelihood ratio statistic is equivalent to the modified Bartlett test statistic. We use Bartlett's small sample correction to the marginal likelihood ratio statistic and call it the modified marginal likelihood ratio statistic (MLB). We then compare the four statistics, MLBi Qut CPL and ESP in terms of size and power by using Monte Carlo simulation experiments. For the variety of sample sizes and censoring combinations and nominal levels considered the statistic MLB holds nominal level most accurately and based on empirically calculated critical values, this statistic performs best or as good as others in most situations. Two examples are given.  相似文献
