The number of sterile couples in a retrospective study of the number of cycles to conception is necessarily zero; this is not so for a prospective study. The paper puts forward a modification of Weinberg and Gladen's beta geometric model for cycles to conception that is suitable for both types of investigation. The probability that a couple achieves conception at the xth cycle, but not earlier, is assumed to take the form Rx = (1 ? ρ)/(1 ? m x?1 ρ/u), instead of μ/(1 ? θ + θx). The set of parameter restraints (0 < m < 1, 0< ρ < 1, 1 < u) is appropriate for retrospective data, whilst the alternative set of restraints (1 < m, 1 < ρ, 0 < u < 1) is appropriate for prospective data. The decrease in Rx over time can be interpreted not only as a time effect, but also as a heterogeneity effect by replacing Weinberg and Gladen's beta mixture of geometric distributions by a q-beta mixture.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Though the Pareto distribution is important to actuaries and economists, an exact expression for the distribution of the sum of n i.i.d. Pareto variates has been difficult to obtain in general. This article considers Pareto random variables with common probability density function (pdf) f(x) = (α/β) (1 + x/β)α+1 for x > 0, where α = 1,2,… and β > 0 is a scale parameter. To date, explicit expressions are known only for a few special cases: (i) α = 1 and n = 1,2,3; (ii) 0 < α < 1 and n = 1,2,…; and (iii) 1 < α < 2 and n = 1,2,…. New expressions are provided for the more general case where β > 0, and α and n are positive integers. Laplace transforms and generalized exponential integrals are used to derive these expressions, which involve integrals of real valued functions on the positive real line. An important attribute of these expressions is that the integrands involved are non oscillating.  相似文献

Exponentiated geometric distribution with two parameters q(0 < q < 1) and α( > 0) is proposed as a new generalization of the geometric distribution by employing the techniques of Mudholkar and Srivastava (1993). A few realistics basis where the proposed distribution may arise naturally are discussed, its distributional and reliability properties are investigated. Parameter estimation is discussed. Application in discrete failure time data modeling is illustrated with real life data. The suitability of the proposed distribution in empirical modeling of other count data is investigated by conducting comparative data fitting experiments with over and under dispersed data sets.  相似文献

Consider the regression model Yi= g(xi) + ei, i = 1,…, n, where g is an unknown function defined on [0, 1], 0 = x0 < x1 < … < xn≤ 1 are chosen so that max1≤i≤n(xi-xi- 1) = 0(n-1), and where {ei} are i.i.d. with Ee1= 0 and Var e1 - s?2. In a previous paper, Cheng & Lin (1979) study three estimators of g, namely, g1n of Cheng & Lin (1979), g2n of Clark (1977), and g3n of Priestley & Chao (1972). Consistency results are established and rates of strong uniform convergence are obtained. In the current investigation the limiting distribution of &in, i = 1, 2, 3, and that of the isotonic estimator g**n are considered.  相似文献

There are many situations where the usual random sample from a population of interest is not available, due to the data having unequal probabilities of entering the sample. The method of weighted distributions models this ascertainment bias by adjusting the probabilities of actual occurrence of events to arrive at a specification of the probabilities of the events as observed and recorded. We consider two different classes of contaminated or mixture of weight functions, Γ a ={w(x):w(x)=(1−ε)w 0(x)+εq(x),qQ} and Γ g ={w(x):w(x)=w 0 1−ε (x)q ε(x),qQ} wherew 0(x) is the elicited weighted function,Q is a class of positive functions and 0≤ε≤1 is a small number. Also, we study the local variation of ϕ-divergence over classes Γ a and Γ g . We devote on measuring robustness using divergence measures which is based on the Bayesian approach. Two examples will be studied.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this article, we study the estimation for a class of semiparametric mixtures of generalized linear models where mixing proportions depend on a covariate non parametrically. We investigate a backfitting estimation procedure and show the asymptotic normality of the proposed estimators under mild conditions. We conduct simulation to show the good performance of our methodology and give a real data analysis as an illustration.  相似文献

Let {S n : n ≥ 0} be a random walk with light-tailed increments and negative drift, and let τ(x) be the first time when the random walk crosses a given level x ≥ 0. Tang (2007 Tang , Q. ( 2007 ). The overshoot of a random walk with negative drift . Statist. Probab. Lett. 77 : 158165 .[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) obtained the asymptotics of P(S τ(x) ? x > y, τ(x) < ∞) as x → ∞, which is uniform for y ≥ f(x) for any positive function f(x) → ∞ as x → ∞. In this article, the uniform asymptotics of P(S τ(x) ? x > y, τ(x) < ∞) as x → ∞, for 0 ≤ y ≤ N for any positive number N will be given. Using the above two results, the uniform asymptotics of P(S τ(x) ? x > y, τ(x) < ∞) as x → ∞, for y ≥ 0, is presented.  相似文献

Several methods for comparing k populations have been proposed in the literature. These methods assess the same null hypothesis of equal distributions but differ in the alternative hypothesis they consider. We focus on two important alternative hypotheses: monotone and umbrella ordering. Two new families of test statistics are proposed, including two known tests, as well as two new powerful tests under monotone ordering. Furthermore, these families are adapted for testing umbrella ordering. We compare some members of the families with respect to power and Type I errors under different simulation scenarios. Finally, the methods are illustrated in several applications to real data.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this article, we consider the estimation of R = P(Y < X), when Y and X are two independent three-parameter Lindley (LI) random variables. On the basis of two independent samples, the modified maximum likelihood estimator along its asymptotic behavior and conditional likelihood-based estimator are used to estimate R. We also propose sample-based estimate of R and the associated credible interval based on importance sampling procedure. A real life data set involving the times to breakdown of an insulating fluid is presented and analyzed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a new procedure to estimate the distribution of a variable y when there are missing data. To compensate the presence of missing responses, it is assumed that a covariate vector x is observed and that y and x are related by means of a semi-parametric regression model. Observed residuals are combined with predicted values to estimate the missing response distribution. Once the responses distribution is consistently estimated, we can estimate any parameter defined through a continuous functional T using a plug in procedure. We prove that the proposed estimators have high breakdown point.  相似文献

A numerical specification of ‘size’ and ‘shape’ is of interest for making interpretations in morphometrics. Starting from a, possibly large, set m 1,…, mr of size measurements, e.g. m 1= height, m 2= sitting height, etc., a preliminary analysis provides the set x 1,…,xp of size measurements to be used, e.g. x 1= m 1? m 2= subischial leg length, x 2= m 2= sitting height, and x 3= head circumference. In general these xj are constructed as appropriately scaled linear combinations of the original measurements. A constant term should not be included because size measurements have to be 0 if all xj are 0. Our theory requires a (compromise) vector μof means and a matrix Σof (co)variances. Size being specified as an optimalsize characteristic of the form c x , the remaining morphological information is expressed by, at most, p? 1 components of shapeof the form d x. ABSTRACT

Many mathematical and physical problems are led to find a root of a real function f. This kind of equation is an inverse problem and it is difficult to solve it. Especially in engineering sciences, the analytical expression of the function f is unknown to the experimenter, but it can be measured at each point xk with M(xk) as expected value and induced error ξk. The aim is to approximate the unique root θ under some assumptions on the function f and errors ξk. We use a stochastic approximation algorithm that constructs a sequence (xk)k ? 1. We establish the almost complete convergence of the sequence (xk)k to the exact root θ by considering the errors (ξk)k quasi-associated and we illustrate the method by numerical examples to show its efficiency.  相似文献

A class of tests is proposed for testing H0 F?(x) = e?λx, λ > 0, x≥0 vs. H1 F?(x + y) ≤ F?(x)F?(y), x, y≥0, with strict inequality for some x, y ≥ 0 (F = new is better than used). Efficiency comparisons of some tests within the class are made and a new test is proposed on the basis of these comparisons. Consistency and the asymptotic normality of the class of tests is proved under fairly broad conditions on the underlying entities.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Suppose F and G are two life distribution functions. It is said that F is more IFRA (increasing failure rate average) than G (written by F ? *G) if G? 1F(x) is star-shaped on (0, ∞). In this paper, the problem of testing H0: F = *G against H1: F ? *G and F*G is considered in both cases when G is known and when G is unknown. We propose a new test based on U-statistics and obtain the asymptotic distribution of the test statistics. The new test is compared with some well-known tests in the literature. In addition, we apply our test to a real data set in the context of reliability.  相似文献

Let {Sn, n ≥ 1} be a sequence of partial sums of independent and identically distributed non-negative random variables with a common distribution function F. Let F belong to the domain of attraction of a stable law with exponent α, 0 < α < 1. Suppose H(t) = ? N(t), t ? 0, where N(t) = max(n : Sn ≥ t). Under some additional assumptions on F, the difference between H(t) and its asymptotic value as t → ∞ is estimated.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A general method of introducing a new parameter to a well-established continuous baseline cumulative function G to obtain more flexible distributions was proposed by Marshall and Olkin (1997 Marshall, A.W., Olkin, I. (1997). A new method for adding a parameter to a family of distributions with application to the exponential and Weibull families. Biometrika 84:641652.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]). This new family is known as Marshall–Olkin extended G family of distributions. In this article, we characterize this family as mixtures of the distributions of the minimum and maximum of random variables with cumulative function G. We demonstrate that the coefficients of the mixtures are probabilities of random variables with geometric distributions. Additionally, we present new representations for the density and cumulative functions of this class of distributions. Further, we introduce a new three-parameter continuous model for modeling rates and proportions based on the Marshall–Olkin's method. The model parameters are estimated by maximum likelihood and the observed information matrix is determined. The usefulness of the new model is illustrated by means of a real dataset.  相似文献
