In this article, new pseudo-Bayes and pseudo-empirical Bayes estimators for estimating the proportion of a potentially sensitive attribute in a survey sampling have been introduced. The proposed estimators are compared with the recent estimator proposed by Odumade and Singh [Efficient use of two decks of cards in randomized response sampling, Comm. Statist. Theory Methods 38 (2009), pp. 439–446] and Warner [Randomized response: A survey technique for eliminating evasive answer bias, J. Amer. Statist. Assoc. 60 (1965), pp. 63–69].  相似文献

In recent years randomized response methods have been introduced in an attempt to improve the accuracy and honesty in personalized response surveys of very sensitive questions. Two randomized response methods are compared, taking into account the protection afforded the respondent. In addition, we point out that the estimators, which previous authors have claimed to be the maximum likelihood estimators of the population proportion with the sensitive characteristic, are in fact not the maximum likelihood estimators.  相似文献

In this article, a new notion of “quasi-empirical” Bayes estimation is developed for estimating the proportion of a sensitive attribute in a population by making use of both a prior distribution of prevalence of the sensitive attribute in addition to the known prior distribution of an unrelated characteristic. Randomized response techniques are designed to obtain usable data on sensitive issues while protecting the privacy of individuals. In this paper, based on repeating the randomized response technique, a new technique called repeated randomized response is introduced to increase the protection of privacy and efficiency of estimator for proportion of sensitive attribute. The randomized response technique is a method of interviewing which allows estimation of population proportion or mean of a sensitive characteristic while maintaining anonymity of response. This is accomplished by use of two questions in the interview, one sensitive and one not so, with the respondent applying a random device to determine which question to answer. The statistician knows the parameters of the random device but is kept from knowledge of individual outcomes. When the nonsensitive question bears on a matter quite foreign to the sensitive characteristic, it is termed an unrelated question, and the associated technique carries that designation. Critical in the construction of such a model are the assigned probability p that the respondent will select the sensitive question and the proportion Πy of the population having the unrelated nonsensitive characteristic. The choice of these parameters is discussed herein with reference to the risks perceived by respondents.  相似文献

A general design-based approach to randomized response surveys is proposed. The method is tailored for the joint estimation of the proportion of individuals in the population bearing a sensitive attribute and the proportion of individuals in the sensitive group declaring truthfully their status. Randomized response models have been used to estimate a population proportion of a sensitive attribute. A randomized device is typically employed to protect respondent's privacy in a survey. In addition, an unrelated question is asked to improve the statistical efficiency. In this article, we propose Bayesian estimation of rare sensitive attribute using randomized response technique, which includes a rare unrelated attribute. Two cases are considered, the proportion of a rare unrelated attribute is known and unknown. A simulation study is conducted to assess the performance of the models using mean absolute error and coverage probability. The results show that the performance depends on the parameters and is robust to priors.  相似文献

In this article, an interesting improvement of some recent randomized response techniques has been proposed. The proposed randomized response technique applies Negative Binomial distribution to obtain data from respondents. An unbiased estimator of proportion of a sensitive attribute has been suggested and it is shown, numerically, that the new estimator performs better than the recent estimators while doing a sensitive survey. It is also established that the proposed estimator is unconditionally better than that of the estimator based on using the geometric distribution.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This paper deals with Bayes, robust Bayes, and minimax predictions in a subfamily of scale parameters under an asymmetric precautionary loss function. In Bayesian statistical inference, the goal is to obtain optimal rules under a specified loss function and an explicit prior distribution over the parameter space. However, in practice, we are not able to specify the prior totally or when a problem must be solved by two statisticians, they may agree on the choice of the prior but not the values of the hyperparameters. A common approach to the prior uncertainty in Bayesian analysis is to choose a class of prior distributions and compute some functional quantity. This is known as Robust Bayesian analysis which provides a way to consider the prior knowledge in terms of a class of priors Γ for global prevention against bad choices of hyperparameters. Under a scale invariant precautionary loss function, we deal with robust Bayes predictions of Y based on X. We carried out a simulation study and a real data analysis to illustrate the practical utility of the prediction procedure.  相似文献

This paper considers the problem of estimating the population proportion when the study variable is sensitive in nature. Two implicit unrelated question procedures are proposed, in which the unrelated character used can be chosen arbitrarily. In addition to unbiasedly estimating population proportion and variance, an empirical study is also carried out to examine the relative efficiency aspect of the proposed procedures. The new procedures are shown to be more efficient than the usual randomized response procedures.  相似文献

A Bayesian estimator based on Franklin's randomized response procedure is proposed for proportion estimation in surveys dealing with a sensitive character. The method is simple to implement and avoids the usual drawbacks of Franklin's estimator, i.e., the occurrence of negative estimates when the population proportion is small. In this article, the preliminary test estimator is considered under the BLINEX loss function. The problem under consideration is the estimation of the location parameter from a normal distribution. The risk under the null hypothesis for the preliminary test estimator, the exact risk function for restricted maximum likelihood and approximated risk function for the unrestricted maximum likelihood estimator, are derived under BLINEX loss and the different risk structures are compared to one another both analytically and computationally. As a motivation on the use of BLINEX rather than LINEX, the risk for the preliminary test estimator under BLINEX loss is compared to the risk of the preliminary test estimator under LINEX loss and it is shown that the LINEX expected loss is higher than BLINEX expected loss. Furthermore, two feasible Bayes estimators are derived under BLINEX loss, and a feasible Bayes preliminary test estimator is defined and compared to the classical preliminary test estimator.  相似文献

This article purposes the estimation of population proportion of a sensitive attribute through randomized response technique. An efficient estimator is suggested using six decks of cards to randomise the response. Many existing models can now be viewed as the special case of the proposed model. The superiority of the proposed procedure is established through numerical calculation of percentage relative efficiency with prominent competitors. The proposed procedure is also studied under stratified random sampling protocol. In addition, it is shown that, the proposed stratified estimator, performs better in term of efficiency than its only existing two deck stratified competitor.  相似文献

The randomized response technique (RRT) is an important tool, commonly used to avoid biased answers in survey on sensitive issues by preserving the respondents’ privacy. In this paper, we introduce a data collection method for survey on sensitive issues combining both the unrelated-question RRT and the direct question design. The direct questioning method is utilized to obtain responses to a non sensitive question that is related to the innocuous question from the unrelated-question RRT. These responses serve as additional information that can be used to improve the estimation of the prevalence of the sensitive behavior. Furthermore, we propose two new methods for the estimation of the proportion of respondents possessing the sensitive attribute under a missing data setup. More specifically, we develop the weighted estimator and the weighted conditional likelihood estimator. The performances of our estimators are studied numerically and compared with that of an existing one. Both proposed estimators are more efficient than the Greenberg's estimator. We illustrate our methods using real data from a survey study on illegal use of cable TV service in Taiwan.  相似文献

In studies about sensitive characteristics, randomized response (RR) methods are useful for generating reliable data, protecting respondents’ privacy. It is shown that all RR surveys for estimating a proportion can be encompassed in a common model and some general results for statistical inferences can be used for any given survey. The concepts of design and scheme are introduced for characterizing RR surveys. Some consequences of comparing RR designs based on statistical measures of efficiency and respondent’ protection are discussed. In particular, such comparisons lead to the designs that may not be suitable in practice. It is suggested that one should consider other criteria and the scheme parameters for planning a RR survey.  相似文献

The problem of selecting good populations out of k normal populations is considered in a Bayesian framework under exchangeable normal priors and additive loss functions. Some basic approximations to the Bayes rules are discussed. These approximations suggest that some well-known classical rules are "approximate" Bayes rules. Especially, it is shown that Gupta-type rules are extended Bayes with respect to a family of the exchangeable normal priors for any bounded and additive loss function. Furthermore, for a simple loss function, the results of a Monte Carlo comparison of Gupta-type rules and Seal-type rules are presented. They indicate that, in general, Gupta-type rules perform better than Seal-type rules  相似文献

The problem of sequential estimation of the mean with quadratic loss and fixed cost per observation is considered within the Bayesian framework. Instead of fully sequential sampling, a two-stage sampling technique is introduced to solve the problem. The proposed two-stage procedure is robust in the sense that it does not depend on the distribution of outcome variables and the prior. It is shown to be asymptotically not worse than the optimal fixed-sample-size procedures for the arbitrary distributions, and to be asymptotically Bayes for the distributions of one-parameter exponential family.  相似文献

This article focuses on the improvement of a well-celebrated randomized response technique of Kuk. A generalized randomized response technique is suggested. In particular, the generalized geometric distribution of order k is introduced as a randomization device for estimating the population proportion of a rare sensitive attribute. The proposed randomized response technique includes Singh and Grewal and Hussain et al. techniques as its special cases. Through numerical illustrations, it is established that the suggested technique is superior to the Kuk, Singh and Grewal, and Hussain et al. techniques. Consider an estimation problem under the LINEX loss function in one-parameter non-regular distributions where the endpoint of the support depends on an unknown parameter. The purpose of this paper is to give sufficient conditions for a generalized Bayes estimator of a parametric function to be admissible.
