ABSTRACT

This article addresses the problem of parameter estimation of the logistic regression model under subspace information via linear shrinkage, pretest, and shrinkage pretest estimators along with the traditional unrestricted maximum likelihood estimator and restricted estimator. We developed an asymptotic theory for the linear shrinkage and pretest estimators and compared their relative performance using the notion of asymptotic distributional bias and asymptotic quadratic risk. The analytical results demonstrated that the proposed estimation strategies outperformed the classical estimation strategies in a meaningful parameter space. Detailed Monte-Carlo simulation studies were conducted for different combinations and the performance of each estimation method was evaluated in terms of simulated relative efficiency. The results of the simulation study were in strong agreement with the asymptotic analytical findings. Two real-data examples are also given to appraise the performance of the estimators.  相似文献

Abstract

Minimum distance estimation on the linear regression model with independent errors is known to yield an efficient and robust estimator. We extend the method to the model with strong mixing errors and obtain an estimator of the vector of the regression parameters. The goal of this article is to demonstrate the proposed estimator still retains efficiency and robustness. To that end, this article investigates asymptotic distributional properties of the proposed estimator and compares it with other estimators. The efficiency and the robustness of the proposed estimator are empirically shown, and its superiority over the other estimators is established.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The measurement error model with replicated data on study as well as explanatory variables is considered. The measurement error variance associated with the explanatory variable is estimated using the complete data and the grouped data which is used for the construction of the consistent estimators of regression coefficient. These estimators are further used in constructing an almost unbiased estimator of regression coefficient. The large sample properties of these estimators are derived without assuming any distributional form of the measurement errors and the random error component under the setup of an ultrastructural model.  相似文献

For the linear regression model y=Xβ+e with severe multicollinearity, we put forward three shrinkage-type estimators based on the ordinary least-squares estimator including two types of independent factor estimators and a seemingly convex combination. The simulation study shows that the new estimators are not good enough when multicollinearity is mild to moderate, but perform very well when multicollinearity is severe to very severe.  相似文献

Abstract

In this article, we consider a panel data partially linear regression model with fixed effect and non parametric time trend function. The data can be dependent cross individuals through linear regressor and error components. Unlike the methods using non parametric smoothing technique, a difference-based method is proposed to estimate linear regression coefficients of the model to avoid bandwidth selection. Here the difference technique is employed to eliminate the non parametric function effect, not the fixed effects, on linear regressor coefficient estimation totally. Therefore, a more efficient estimator for parametric part is anticipated, which is shown to be true by the simulation results. For the non parametric component, the polynomial spline technique is implemented. The asymptotic properties of estimators for parametric and non parametric parts are presented. We also show how to select informative ones from a number of covariates in the linear part by using smoothly clipped absolute deviation-penalized estimators on a difference-based least-squares objective function, and the resulting estimators perform asymptotically as well as the oracle procedure in terms of selecting the correct model.  相似文献

Shrinkage estimators are often obtained by adjusting the usual estimator towards a target subspace to which the true parameter might belong. However, meaningful reductions in risk below the usual estimator can typically be achieved in a very small part of the parameter space. In the multivariate-normal mean estimation problem, E. George, in a series of papers, showed how multiple-shrinkage estimators (data-weighted averages of several different shrinkage estimators) can attain substantial risk reductions in a large part of the parameter space. This paper extends the multiple-shrinkage results to the case of simultaneous estimation of the means of several one-parameter exponential families. Our results are developed by using an identity similar to that of Haff and Johnson (1986). A computer simulation is reported to indicate the magnitude of reductions in risk. Our results are also applied to the problem of how to choose appropriate component variables to combine before a suitable shrinkage estimator is considered.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

It is well known that the Greenwood estimators underestimate the variances of the Nelson-Aalen estimator and the Kaplan-Meier estimator. In this article, we reveal some “improved” versions of the Greenwood estimators under the Koziol-Green model.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this article, we discuss the superiority of r-k class estimator over some estimators in a misspecified linear model. We derive the necessary and sufficient conditions for the superiority of the r-k class estimator over each of these estimators under the Mahalanobis loss function by the average loss criterion in the misspecified linear model.  相似文献

In this paper we have suggested a class of unbiased estimators of πS, the proportion of respondents possessing a sensitive attribute A using mixed randomized response model. The variance of the proposed class of estimators has been obtained. In addition to Kim and Warde's (2005) estimator, several other acceptable estimators of πS have been identified from the proposed class for suitable weights. It has been shown that the newly identified estimators are more efficient than the Kim and Warde's (2005) estimator. Numerical illustrations and graphs are also given in support of the present study.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This paper first derives an adaptive estimator when heteroskedasticity is present in the individual specific error in an error component model and then compares the finite sample performance of the proposed estimator with various other estimators. While the Monte Carlo results show that the proposed estimator performs adequately in terms of relative efficiency, its performance on the basis of empirical size is quite similar to the other estimators considered.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This article is concerned with some parametric and nonparametric estimators for the k-fold convolution of a distribution function. An alternative estimator is proposed and its unbiasedness, asymptotic unbiasedness, and consistency properties are investigated. The asymptotic normality of this estimator is established. Some applications of the estimator are given in renewal processes. Finally, the computational procedures are described and the relative performance of these estimators for small sample sizes is investigated by a simulation study.  相似文献

Abstract

This article concerns the stochastically constrained linear model under a biased assumption. We propose a quasi-stochastically constrained least squares estimator. Furthermore, we provide the expectation of this estimator, demonstrate its consistency and asymptotic normality. In the end of the article, the simulation study of the new estimator shows that it is superior to the least squares estimator, ridge estimator, and the linear constrained estimators under certain conditions by comparing the mean squared errors of these estimators.  相似文献

Abstract

We consider statistical inference for additive partial linear models when the linear covariate is measured with error. A bias-corrected spline-backfitted kernel smoothing method is proposed. Under mild assumptions, the proposed component function and parameter estimator are oracally efficient and fast to compute. The nonparametric function estimator’s pointwise distribution is asymptotically equivalent to an function estimator in partial linear model. Finite-sample performance of the proposed estimators is assessed by simulation experiments. The proposed methods are applied to Boston house data set.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we consider the estimation problem of the parameter vector in the linear regression model with heteroscedastic errors. First, under heteroscedastic errors, we study the performance of shrinkage-type estimators and their performance as compared to theunrestricted and restricted least squares estimators. In order to accommodate the heteroscedastic structure, we generalize an identity which is useful in deriving the risk function. Thanks to the established identity, we prove that shrinkage estimators dominate the unrestricted estimator. Finally, we explore the performance of high-dimensional heteroscedastic regression estimator as compared to classical LASSO and shrinkage estimators.  相似文献

For the regression model y=X β+ε where the errors follow the elliptically contoured distribution, we consider the least squares, restricted least squares, preliminary test, Stein-type shrinkage and positive-rule shrinkage estimators for the regression parameters, β.

We compare the quadratic risks of the estimators to determine the relative dominance properties of the five estimators.  相似文献

Abstract

A semiparametric estimator for evaluating the parameters of data generated under a sample selection process is developed. This estimator is based on the generalized maximum entropy estimator and performs well for small and ill-posed samples. Theoretical and sampling comparisons with parametric and semiparametric estimators are given. This method and standard ones are applied to three small-sample empirical applications of the wage-participation model for female teenage heads of households, immigrants, and Native Americans.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we propose three generalized estimators, namely, generalized unrestricted estimator (GURE), generalized stochastic restricted estimator (GSRE), and generalized preliminary test stochastic restricted estimator (GPTSRE). The GURE can be used to represent the ridge estimator, almost unbiased ridge estimator (AURE), Liu estimator, and almost unbiased Liu estimator. When stochastic restrictions are available in addition to the sample information, the GSRE can be used to represent stochastic mixed ridge estimator, stochastic restricted Liu estimator, stochastic restricted almost unbiased ridge estimator, and stochastic restricted almost unbiased Liu estimator. The GPTSRE can be used to represent the preliminary test estimators based on mixed estimator. Using the GPTSRE, the properties of three other preliminary test estimators, namely preliminary test stochastic mixed ridge estimator, preliminary test stochastic restricted almost unbiased Liu estimator, and preliminary test stochastic restricted almost unbiased ridge estimator can also be discussed. The mean square error matrix criterion is used to obtain the superiority conditions to compare the estimators based on GPTSRE with some biased estimators for the two cases for which the stochastic restrictions are correct, and are not correct. Finally, a numerical example and a Monte Carlo simulation study are done to illustrate the theoretical findings of the proposed estimators.  相似文献

In this paper, the notion of the general linear estimator and its modified version are introduced using the singular value decomposition theorem in the linear regression model y=X β+e to improve some classical linear estimators. The optimal selections of the biasing parameters involved are theoretically given under the prediction error sum of squares criterion. A numerical example and a simulation study are finally conducted to illustrate the superiority of the proposed estimators.  相似文献

Abstract

This paper studies decision theoretic properties of Stein type shrinkage estimators in simultaneous estimation of location parameters in a multivariate skew-normal distribution with known skewness parameters under a quadratic loss. The benchmark estimator is the best location equivariant estimator which is minimax. A class of shrinkage estimators improving on the best location equivariant estimator is constructed when the dimension of the location parameters is larger than or equal to four. An empirical Bayes estimator is also derived, and motivated from the Bayesian procedure, we suggest a simple skew-adjusted shrinkage estimator and show its dominance property. The performances of these estimators are investigated by simulation.  相似文献
