This review covers some known results on prediction intervals for univariate distributions. Results for parametric continuous and discrete distributions as well as those based on distribution-free methods are included. Prediction intervals based on Bayesian and sequential methods are not covered. Methods of construction of prediction intervals and other related problems are discussed.  相似文献

In the model of progressive type II censoring, point and interval estimation as well as relations for single and product moments are considered. Based on two-parameter exponential distributions, maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs), uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimators (UMVUEs) and best linear unbiased estimators (BLUEs) are derived for both location and scale parameters. Some properties of these estimators are shown. Moreover, results for single and product moments of progressive type II censored order statistics are presented to obtain recurrence relations from exponential and truncated exponential distributions. These relations may then be used to compute all the means, variances and covariances of progressive type II censored order statistics based on exponential distributions for arbitrary censoring schemes. The presented recurrence relations simplify those given by Aggarwala and Balakrishnan (1996)  相似文献

There are a variety of economic areas, such as studies of employment duration and of the durability of capital goods, in which data on important variables typically are censored. The standard techinques for estimating a model from censored data require the distributions of unobservable random components of the model to be specified a priori up to a finite set of parameters, and misspecification of these distributions usually leads to inconsistent parameter estimates. However, economic theory rarely gives guidance about distributions and the standard estimation techniques do not provide convenient methods for identifying distributions from censored data. Recently, several distribution-free or semiparametric methods for estimating censored regression models have been developed. This paper presents the results of using two such methods to estimate a model of employment duration. The paper reports the operating characteristics of the semiparametric estimators and compares the semiparametric estimates with those obtained from a standard parametric model.  相似文献

This article discusses a general approach to finding the moments of two classes of multivariate discrete distributions, which include those widely used in applied and theoretical statistics. The two classes of multivariate discrete distributions are the multivariate generalized power series distributions (GPSD) and the unified multivariate hypergeometric (UMH) Distributions. The results of Link (1981) follow as special cases.  相似文献

In this article, we develop two general classes of discrete bivariate distributions. We derive general formulas for the joint distributions belonging to the classes. The obtained formulas for the joint distributions are very general in the sense that new families of distributions can be generated just by specifying the “baseline seed distributions.” The dependence structures of the bivariate distributions belonging to the proposed classes, along with basic statistical properties, are also discussed. New families of discrete bivariate distributions are generated from the classes. Furthermore, to assess the usefulness of the proposed classes, two discrete bivariate distributions generated from the classes are applied to analyze a real dataset and the results are compared with those obtained from conventional models.  相似文献

This work aims at assessing, by simulation methods, the performance of asymptotic confidence intervals for Zenga's new inequality measure. The results are compared with those obtained on Gini's measure, perhaps the most widely used index for measuring inequality in income and wealth distributions. Our findings show that the coverage accuracy and the size of the confidence intervals for the two measures are very similar in samples from economic size distributions.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider skew-symmetric circular distributions generated by perturbation of a symmetric circular distribution. The main focus of the paper, the sine-skewed family of distributions, is a special case of the construction due to Umbach and Jammalamadaka (Stat Probab Lett 79:659–663, 2009). Very general results are provided for the properties of any such distribution, and the sine-skewed Jones–Pewsey distribution is introduced as a particularly flexible model of this type. We study its properties as well as those of three of its special cases. General results are also provided for maximum likelihood estimation of the parameters of any sine-skewed distribution. The developed models and methods of inference are applied in analyses of three circular data sets. Two of them shed new light on previously published analyses.  相似文献

Elliptically contoured distributions can be considered to be the distributions for which the contours of the density functions are proportional ellipsoids. We generalize elliptically contoured densities to “star-shaped distributions” with concentric star-shaped contours and show that many results in the former case continue to hold in the more general case. We develop a general theory in the framework of abstract group invariance so that the results can be applied to other cases as well, especially those involving random matrices.  相似文献

In this article, we apply univariate characterizations of some monotonic aging classes to investigate the preservation problem of those classes and stochastic orders under weighting. The results are also examined and discussed for special cases of the weighted distributions, as well.  相似文献

In this work we propose Bayesian measures to quantify the influence of observations on the structural parameters of the simple measurement error model (MEM). Different influence measures, like those based on q-divergence between posterior distributions and Bayes risk, are studied to evaluate the influence. A strategy based on the perturbation function and MCMC samples is used to compute these measures. The samples from the posterior distributions are obtained by using the Metropolis-Hastings algorithm and assuming specific proper prior distributions. The results are illustrated with an application to a real example modeled with MEM in the literature.  相似文献

The complementary beta distribution is proposed as a new distribution on the unit interval. It results from reversing the roles of the distribution and quantile functions of the beta distribution. It has some attractive properties that are complementary to those of the beta distribution. In particular, the complementary beta distribution is much more amenable than the beta distribution to exact computations involving expectations of order statistics, including L-moments. At least for a wide range of parameter values, complementary beta and beta distributions with parameters that are reciprocals of the other's parameters are good approximations to one another. We also note the position of the complementary beta distribution in a wider family of distributions defined through the same simple form for their quantile density functions.  相似文献

We derive the asymptotic distributions of the Dickey–Fuller (DF) and augmented DF (ADF) tests for unit root processes with Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedastic (GARCH) errors under fairly mild conditions. We show that the asymptotic distributions of the DF tests and ADF t‐type test are the same as those obtained in the independent and identically distributed Gaussian cases, regardless of whether the fourth moment of the underlying GARCH process is finite or not. Our results go beyond earlier ones by showing that the fourth moment condition on the scaled conditional errors is totally unnecessary. Some Monte Carlo simulations are provided to illustrate the finite‐sample‐size properties of the tests.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate some properties of 2-principal points for location mixtures of spherically symmetric distributions with focus on a linear subspace in which a set of 2-principal points must lie. Our results can be viewed as an extension of those of Yamamoto and Shinozaki [2000. Two principal points for multivariate location mixtures of spherically symmetric distributions. J. Japan Statist. Soc. 30, 53–63], where a finite location mixture of spherically symmetric distributions is treated. As an extension of their paper, this paper defines a wider class of distributions, and derives a linear subspace in which a set of 2-principal points must exist. A theorem useful for comparing the mean squared distances is also established.  相似文献

We propose here a general statistic for the goodness of fit test of statistical distributions. The proposed statistic is constructed based on an estimate of Kullback–Leibler information. The proposed test is consistent and the limiting distribution of the test statistic is derived. Then, the established results are used to introduce goodness of fit tests for the normal, exponential, Laplace and Weibull distributions. A simulation study is carried out for examining the power of the proposed test and to compare it with those of some existing procedures. Finally, some illustrative examples are presented and analysed, and concluding comments are made.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the relationships between the weighted distributions and the parent distributions in the context of Lorenz curve, Lorenz ordering and inequality measures. These relationships depend on the nature of the weight functions and give rise to interesting connections. The properties of weighted distributions for general weight functions are also investigated. It is shown how to derive and to determine characterizations related to Lorenz curve and other inequality measures for the cases weight functions are increasing or decreasing. Some of the results are applied for special cases of the weighted distributions. We represent the reliability measures of weighted distributions by the inequality measures to obtain some results. Length-biased and equilibrium distributions have been discussed as weighted distributions in the reliability context by concentration curves. We also review and extend the problem of stochastic orderings and aging classes under weighting. Finally, the relationships between the weighted distribution and transformations are discussed.  相似文献

Two families of distributions are introduced and studied within the framework of parametric survival analysis. The families are derived from a general linear form by specifying a function of the survival function with certain restrictions. Distributions within each family are generated by transformations of the survival time variable subject to certain restrictions. Two specific transformations were selected and, thus, four distributions are identified for further study. The distributions have one scale and two shape parameters and include as special cases the exponential, Weibull, log-logistic and Gompertz distributions. One of the new distributions, the modified Weibull, is studied in some detail.

The distributions are developed with an emphasis on those features that data analysts find especially useful for survivorship studies, A wide variety of hazard shapes are available. The survival, density and hazard functions may be written in simple algebraic forms. Parameter estimation is demonstrated using the least squares and maximum likelihood methods. Graphical techniques to assess goodness of fit are demonstrated. The models may be extended to include concmitant information.  相似文献

Errors of misclassification and their probabilities are studied for classification problems associated with univariate inverse Gaussian distributions. The effects of applying the linear discriminant function (LDF), based on normality, to inverse Gaussian populations are assessed by comparing probabilities (optimum and conditional) based on the LDF with those based on the likelihood ratio rule (LR) for the inverse Gaussian, Both theoretical and empirical results are presented  相似文献
