Simulation-extrapolation (SIMEX) is a method for correcting for bias in measurement error models, and parametric SIMEX estimates are often used. In this paper, we propose a nonparametric method for computing the SIMEX estimate via the Bezier curve, which is a popular smoothing technique in the computer graphics area. Comparisons are done for the bias of the limit values of parametric SIMEX estimates and the Bezier estimate in the various nonlinear measurement error models.  相似文献

In this paper we propose a Bezier curve method to estimate the survival function and the median survival time in interval-censored data. We compare the proposed estimator with other existing methods such as the parametric method, the single point imputation method, and the nonparametric maximum likelihood estimator through extensive numerical studies, and it is shown that the proposed estimator performs better than others in the sense of mean squared error and mean integrated squared error. An illustrative example based on a real data set is given.  相似文献

An extension of the linear growth curve model (Biometrics 38 (1982) 963) was proposed by Stukel and Demidenko (Biometrics 53 (1997) 720) to study the effects of population covariates on one or more characteristics of the curve, when the characteristics are expressed as linear combinations of the growth curve parameters. In the present paper, this general growth curve model receives a comprehensive theoretical treatment. A two-stage estimator, consisting of a generalized least squares estimator under constraints for the population parameters and a moment estimator for the variance parameters, is developed for application in the non-Gaussian error situation. Two likelihood based estimators, global maximum likelihood and second-stage maximum likelihood, are also developed. It is shown that all three estimators are consistent, asymptotically normally distributed, and efficient, and are equivalent when the number of individuals tends to infinity. An expression for the bias in the estimator of the population parameters is derived under second stage model misspecification. We show that if parameters that are not of primary interest are incorrectly specified, bias may occur in parameters that are of interest using the standard growth curve model. The general growth curve model does not require specification of such nuisance parameters and is robust in terms of bias. The general linear growth curve model is used to study the effects of host sex on pancreatic tumor growth in rats.  相似文献

A general four parameter growth curve is presented as a model for the growth curve of a group of mice for which averaged weights of the group are available. Several data sets of mice weights obtained from experiments performed at the National Center for Toxicological Research are analyzed. The results are compared with traditional models for growth curves. Both additive and multiplicative error models are analyzed. It is shown that for this data the four parameter model gives a much better fit than traditional growth curve models and should be given serious consideration in model fitting.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this article, we look into the properties and characterizations of the New Zenga curve. The relationship of the curve with other measures of inequality as well as some reliability concepts are examined. Classification of lifetime distributions using the Zenga curve and an illustration for the behaviour of the curve using a survival data are also provided.  相似文献

Asymptotic distributions of maximum likelihood estimators for the parameters in explosive growth curve models are derived. Limit distributions of prediction errors when the parameters are estimated are also obtained. The growth curve models are viewed as multivariate time-series models, and the usual time-series methods are used for prediction. Estimation constrained by a hypothesis of homogeneity of growth rates is also considered.  相似文献

A correlation curve measures the strength of the association between two variables locally at different values of covariate. This paper studies how to estimate the correlation curve under the multiplicative distortion measurement errors setting. The unobservable variables are both distorted in a multiplicative fashion by an observed confounding variable. We obtain asymptotic normality results for the estimated correlation curve. We conduct Monte Carlo simulation experiments to examine the performance of the proposed estimator. The estimated correlation curve is applied to analyze a real dataset for an illustration.  相似文献

It is well known that, when sample observations are independent, the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve corresponds to the Wilcoxon statistics if the area is calculated by the trapezoidal rule. Correlated ROC curves arise often in medical research and have been studied by various parametric methods. On the basis of the Mann–Whitney U-statistics for clustered data proposed by Rosner and Grove, we construct an average ROC curve and derive nonparametric methods to estimate the area under the average curve for correlated ROC curves obtained from multiple readers. For the more complicated case where, in addition to multiple readers examining results on the same set of individuals, two or more diagnostic tests are involved, we derive analytic methods to compare the areas under correlated average ROC curves for these diagnostic tests. We demonstrate our methods in an example and compare our results with those obtained by other methods. The nonparametric average ROC curve and the analytic methods that we propose are easy to explain and simple to implement.  相似文献

We propose a two-step nonparametric method for detecting the boundary curve of an object in an image. First we treat boundary points as change-points on lines across the image, and identify them by the one-sided kernel smoothing method. After obtaining potential boundary points, we use the principal curve method to smooth these points in order to obtain an estimate of smooth boundary curve, Computer simulations are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the method.  相似文献

Abstract

ROC curve is a fundamental evaluation tool in medical researches and survival analysis. The estimation of ROC curve has been studied extensively with complete data and right-censored survival data. However, these methods are not suitable to analyze the length-biased and right-censored data. Since this kind of data includes the auxiliary information that truncation time and residual time share the same distribution, the two new estimators for the ROC curve are proposed by taking into account this auxiliary information to improve estimation efficiency. Numerical simulation studies with different assumed cases and real data analysis are conducted.  相似文献

A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve is a plot of two survival functions, derived separately from the diseased and healthy samples. A special feature is that the ROC curve is invariant to any monotone transformation of the measurement scale. We propose and analyse semiparametric and parametric transformation models for this two-sample problem. Following an unspecified or specified monotone transformation, we assume that the healthy and diseased measurements have two normal distributions with different means and variances. Maximum likelihood algorithms for estimating ROC curve parameters are developed. The proposed methods are illustrated on the marker CA125 in the diagnosis of gastric cancer.  相似文献

Seemingly unrelated regression models and growth curve models are examples of multivariate models that require special estimation techniques. Parameters in seemingly unrelated regression models can be estimated by using two-stage Aitken estimation based on unrestricted residuals; parameters in growth curve models can be estimated by using a Potthoff-Roy (1964) transformation based on an estimate of the dispersion. With proper choice of the seemingly unrelated regression model, the two multivariate models and corresponding parameter estimates are shown to be equivalent. Recognition of the equivalence simplifies the presentation of these more complicated multivariate models. The connection is also of interest for more flexible growth curve models.  相似文献

The growth curve model introduced by Potthoff and Roy (1964) is a general statistical model which includes as special cases regression models and both univariate and multivariate analysis of variance models. In this paper, we discuss procedures for detection of outliers in growth curve models for mean-slippage and dispersion-slippage outlier model. The distributions of the test statistics are discussed and the values of significant probabilities are given using Bonferronl's bounds. Some simulation results are also presented.  相似文献

We prove the asymptotic validity of bootstrap confidence bands for the influence curve from its usual estimator (the sensitivity curve). The proof is based on the use of Gill's generalized delta method for Hadamard differentiable operators. Some statistical applications, in particular to the estimation of asymptotic variance, are given.  相似文献

Using simulation techniques, the null distribution properties of seven hypothesis testing procedures and a comparison of their powers are investigated for incomplete-data small-sample growth curve situations. The testing procedures are a combination of two growth curve models (the Potthoff and Roy model for complete data and Kleinbaum's extention to incomplete data) and three estimation techniques (two involving means of existing observations and the other using the EM algorithm) plus an analysis of a subset of complete data. All of the seven tests use the Kleinbaum Wald statistic, but different tests use different information. The hypotheses of identical and parallel growth curves are tested under the assumptions of multivariate normality and a linear polynomial mean growth curve for each of two groups. Good approximate null distributions are found for all procedures and one procedure is identified as empirically most powerful for the situations investigated.  相似文献

Receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curves are useful for studying the performance of diagnostic tests. ROC curves occur in many fields of applications including psychophysics, quality control and medical diagnostics. In practical situations, often the responses to a diagnostic test are classified into a number of ordered categories. Such data are referred to as ratings data. It is typically assumed that the underlying model is based on a continuous probability distribution. The ROC curve is then constructed from such data using this probability model. Properties of the ROC curve are inherited from the model. Therefore, understanding the role of different probability distributions in ROC modeling is an interesting and important area of research. In this paper the Lomax distribution is considered as a model for ratings data and the corresponding ROC curve is derived. The maximum likelihood estimation procedure for the related parameters is discussed. This procedure is then illustrated in the analysis of a neurological data example.  相似文献

The survival in a group of patients is calculated using a Kaplan–Meier curve and the hypothesis that the survival can be predicted by a specified Cox hazard is studied. This Cox hazard is obtained from a previous study of similar patients. A simple test of the hypothesis is constructed by comparing a suitable average of the individual predicted survival curves with the observed survival. Three averaging procedures are presented; "direct adjusted survival curve", "Bonsel's survival curve" and "expected survival curve". Consistency and asymptotic distribution properties of the comparisons are discussed.  相似文献

Many optimal curve fitting and approximation problems have the same structure as certain estimation problems involving random processes. This structural correspondence has many useful consequences for curve fitting problems, including recursive algorithms and computable error bounds. The basic facts of this correspondence are reviewed and some new results on error bounds and optimal sampling are presented.  相似文献

Progressive censoring is quite useful in many practical situations where budget constraints are in place or there is a demand for rapid testing. Balasooriya & Saw (1998) present reliability sampling plans for the two-parameter exponential distribution, based on progressively censored samples. However, the operating characteristic (OC) curve derived in their paper does not depend on the sample size. This seems to be because, in their computations, they forget to consider the proportion of uncensored data, which also has an important influence on the subsequent developments. In consequence, their OC curve is only valid when there is no censoring. In this paper, some modifications are proposed. These are needed to obtain a proper design of the above sampling plan. Whenever at least two uncensored observations are available, the OC curve is derived in closed form and a procedure for determining progressively censored reliability sampling plans is also presented. Finally, the example considered by Balasooriya & Saw is used to illustrate the results developed in this paper for several censoring levels.  相似文献

Functional regression models that relate functional covariates to a scalar response are becoming more common due to the availability of functional data and computational advances. We introduce a functional nonlinear model with a scalar response where the true parameter curve is monotone. Using the Newton-Raphson method within a backfitting procedure, we discuss a penalized least squares criterion for fitting the functional nonlinear model with the smoothing parameter selected using generalized cross validation. Connections between a nonlinear mixed effects model and our functional nonlinear model are discussed, thereby providing an additional model fitting procedure using restricted maximum likelihood for smoothing parameter selection. Simulated relative efficiency gains provided by a monotone parameter curve estimator relative to an unconstrained parameter curve estimator are presented. In addition, we provide an application of our model with data from ozonesonde measurements of stratospheric ozone in which the measurements are biased as a function of altitude.  相似文献
