For the problem of testing the equality of slopes of several regression lines against the alternative that the slopes are in increasing (decreasing) order of magnitude, two types of tests are proposed. These are the likelihood ratio test and a test that depends on suitable linear combination of one group statistics. Rank analogues of the two tests are also examined.  相似文献

Nonparametric approaches to the analysis of multiple endpoints in clinical studies can be of particular value when the endpoints are heterogeneous or distributional assumptions are suspect. We describe a multivariate Terpstra-Jonckheere U-statistic for assessing multiple endpoints with ordered alternatives, and illustrate its use with data arising from a recent clinical study.  相似文献

In the analysis of variance, we often encounter situations in which we want to test the null hypothesis of homogeneity of the normal means against various partially ordered alternative hypotheses. We study likelihood ratio tests for three useful types of alternatives: d-star, bipartite and broom tree. Especially, we give computational formulas for the level probabilities of the alternative types. The results permit us to obtain critical values for practical use.  相似文献

In this paper we present a two-stage sampling procedure for testing the equality of normal means against ordered alternatives in one-way analysis of variance with unequal unknown variances. A test of simultaneous homogeneity of main effects of several factors against an alternative hypothesis with simple order restrictions in main effects of more than one factor in a multifactorial design is considered. This can be regarded as an extension of Shorack's (1967) work where the alternative hypo t hqaLs involves simple order restriction in main effects of one faetor. We derive the likelihood ratio test statistic, E-2 , and its null hypothesis distribution which involves the convolutions of PIrobabilities P(l,k) used in the statistical inference under order restriction , The powers of the E-2 test and the usual F test are compar-ed by simulation.  相似文献

Testing procedures for ordered covariate effects are developed in the repeated measures experiment. The maximum likelihood estimators of covariate effects under the ordered hypothesis are approximated by the isotonic regression of their unconstrained estimators. The asymptotic null distributions of the test statistics are chi-bar-square distributions which are mixtures of chi-square distributions. A Monte-Carlo simulation reveals that the proposed test for ordered covariate effects is seriously more powerful than the usual chi-square test that neglects the information on the order restriction. These testing methods are applied for analyzing the effect of vitamin E diet supplement on growth rate of animals.  相似文献

A modified chi-square test statistic is constructed for testing the hypothesis of independence in a two-way contingency table against a class of ordered alternatives defined in terms of pooled cross-product ratios. The test procedure can also be used to test for positive quadrant dependence in a two-way contingency table. The asymptotic distribution of the test statistic under the null hypothesis is obtained. A rank test based on the number of ‘near-matches’ among within-block rankings is proposed for stochastically ordered alternatives in a randomized block design with t treatments and b blocks. The asymptotic relative efficiency of this test with respect to the Page test is computed as number of blocks increases to infinity. A sequential analog of the above test procedure is also considered. A repeated significance test procedure is developed and average sample number is computed asymptotically under the null hypothesis as well as under a sequence of contiguous alternatives.  相似文献

This study investigates the small sample powers of several tests designed against ordered location alternatives in randomized block experiments. The results are intended to aid the researcher in the selection process. Toward this end the small sample powers of three classes of rank tests — tests based on ‘within-blocks’ rankings (W-tests), ‘among-b locks’ rankings (A-tests), and ‘ranking after alignment’ within blocks (RAA-tests)— are compared and contrasted with the asymptotic properties given by Pirie (1974) as well as with the empirical powers of competing parametric procedures.  相似文献

The point triserial correlation coefficient is defined and, under appropriate order restrictions, an exact test that this correlation coefficient equals zero is developed. The power function of that test is derived and partially tabulated. The general problem of testing for homogeneity of means under ordered alternatives is discussed. The available procedures for performing such tests are considered, are seen to provide alternative approaches to the test developed herein, and are compared with that test. The relation between the concepts of dependence by cM-square and stochastic ordering is established, The asymptotic distribution of the test statistic is the chi-bar-square type discussed by Robertson, Wright and Dykstra (1988). Goodness-of-fit tests based on residual sums of squares are standard procedures used when fitting regression models. Often we have a smooth alternative in mind, a qualitative feature that the χ2-test does not take into account. We show that the power of detecting a smooth alternative increases when we smooth the current model as well. The proposed test is shown to be able to detect any continuous local alternative tending to zero slower than n −1/2. Theoretical results also address minimax non-parametric hypothesis testing in Sobolev spaces. A simulation study is presented, and the procedure is applied to expenditure curve estimation.  相似文献

The theory of locally most powerful rank tests and the union intersection principle are incorporated in the formulation of some distribution-free rank tests for ordered alternatives in some simple linear models (including the classical one-way layout as a special case). Testing for ordered alternatives in randomized block designs has been a problem of interest for almost three decades (Jonckheere (1954)). Three classes of rank tests have evolved—tests based on “within-blocks” rankings (W-tests), tests based on “ranking after alignment” within blocks (RAA-tests), and tests based on “among-blocks” rankings (A-Tests). This paper focuses on the latter. A simplified version of the Skillings-Wolfe generalized Purl test (1977) is suggested and two very useful A-tests—a generalized Johnson-Mehrotra “Optimal contrast” procedure and a generalized Tryon-Hettmansperger rank test—are developed. These procedures are compared and contrasted with other recent competitors presented by Skllllngs and Wolfe (1978) and by Salama and Quade (1981).  相似文献

Likelihood ratio tests for the homogeneity of k normal means with the alternative restricted by an increasing trend are considered as well as the likelihood ratio tests of the null hypothesis that the means satisfy the trend. While the work is primarily a survey of results concerning the power functions of these tests, the extensions of some results to the case of not necessarily equal sample sizes are presented. For the case of known or unknown population variances, exact expressions are given for the power functions for k=3,4, and approximations are discussed for larger k. The topics of consistency, bias and monotonicity of the power functions are included. Also, Bartholomew's conjectures concerning minimal and maximal powers are investigated, with results of a new numerical study given.  相似文献

There are numerous situations in categorical data analysis where one wishes to test hypotheses involving a set of linear inequality constraints placed upon the cell probabilities. For example, it may be of interest to test for symmetry in k × k contingency tables against one-sided alternatives. In this case, the null hypothesis imposes a set of linear equalities on the cell probabilities (namely pij = Pji ×i > j), whereas the alternative specifies directional inequalities. Another important application (Robertson, Wright, and Dykstra 1988) is testing for or against stochastic ordering between the marginals of a k × k contingency table when the variables are ordinal and independence holds. Here we extend existing likelihood-ratio results to cover more general situations. To be specific, we consider testing Ht,0 against H1 - H0 and H1 against H2 - H 1 when H0:k × i=1 pixji = 0, j = 1,…, s, H1:k × i=1 pixji × 0, j = 1,…, s, and does not impose any restrictions on p. The xji's are known constants, and s × k - 1. We show that the asymptotic distributions of the likelihood-ratio tests are of chi-bar-square type, and provide expressions for the weighting values.  相似文献
