In the design of constant-stress life-testing experiments, the optimal allocation in a multi-level stress test with Type-I or Type-II censoring based on the Weibull regression model has been studied in the literature. Conventional Type-I and Type-II censoring schemes restrict our ability to observe extreme failures in the experiment and these extreme failures are important in the estimation of upper quantiles and understanding of the tail behaviors of the lifetime distribution. For this reason, we propose the use of progressive extremal censoring at each stress level, whereas the conventional Type-II censoring is a special case. The proposed experimental scheme allows some extreme failures to be observed. The maximum likelihood estimators of the model parameters, the Fisher information, and asymptotic variance–covariance matrices of the maximum likelihood estimates are derived. We consider the optimal experimental planning problem by looking at four different optimality criteria. To avoid the computational burden in searching for the optimal allocation, a simple search procedure is suggested. Optimal allocation of units for two- and four-stress-level situations is determined numerically. The asymptotic Fisher information matrix and the asymptotic optimal allocation problem are also studied and the results are compared with optimal allocations with specified sample sizes. Finally, conclusions and some practical recommendations are provided.  相似文献

This article considers a class of estimators for the location and scale parameters in the location-scale model based on ‘synthetic data’ when the observations are randomly censored on the right. The asymptotic normality of the estimators is established using counting process and martingale techniques when the censoring distribution is known and unknown, respectively. In the case when the censoring distribution is known, we show that the asymptotic variances of this class of estimators depend on the data transformation and have a lower bound which is not achievable by this class of estimators. However, in the case that the censoring distribution is unknown and estimated by the Kaplan–Meier estimator, this class of estimators has the same asymptotic variance and attains the lower bound for variance for the case of known censoring distribution. This is different from censored regression analysis, where asymptotic variances depend on the data transformation. Our method has three valuable advantages over the method of maximum likelihood estimation. First, our estimators are available in a closed form and do not require an iterative algorithm. Second, simulation studies show that our estimators being moment-based are comparable to maximum likelihood estimators and outperform them when sample size is small and censoring rate is high. Third, our estimators are more robust to model misspecification than maximum likelihood estimators. Therefore, our method can serve as a competitive alternative to the method of maximum likelihood in estimation for location-scale models with censored data. A numerical example is presented to illustrate the proposed method.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the conditional Koziol–Green model of Braekers and Veraverbeke [2008. A conditional Koziol–Green model under dependent censoring. Statist. Probab. Lett., accepted for publication] in which they generalized the Koziol–Green model of Veraverbeke and Cadarso Suárez [2000. Estimation of the conditional distribution in a conditional Koziol–Green model. Test 9, 97–122] by assuming that the association between a censoring time and a time until an event is described by a known Archimedean copula function. They got in this way, an informative censoring model with two different types of informative censoring. Braekers and Veraverbeke [2008. A conditional Koziol–Green model under dependent censoring. Statist. Probab. Lett., accepted for publication] derived in this model a non-parametric Koziol–Green estimator for the conditional distribution function of the time until an event, for which they showed the uniform consistency and the asymptotic normality. In this paper we extend their results and prove the weak convergence of the process associated to this estimator. Furthermore we show that the conditional Koziol–Green estimator is asymptotically more efficient in this model than the general copula-graphic estimator of Braekers and Veraverbeke [2005. A copula-graphic estimator for the conditional survival function under dependent censoring. Canad. J. Statist. 33, 429–447]. As last result, we construct an asymptotic confidence band for the conditional Koziol–Green estimator. Through a simulation study, we investigate the small sample properties of this asymptotic confidence band. Afterwards we apply this estimator and its confidence band on a practical data set.  相似文献

Log-normal and Weibull distributions are the two most popular distributions for analysing lifetime data. In this paper, we consider the problem of discriminating between the two distribution functions. It is assumed that the data are coming either from log-normal or Weibull distributions and that they are Type-II censored. We use the difference of the maximized log-likelihood functions, in discriminating between the two distribution functions. We obtain the asymptotic distribution of the discrimination statistic. It is used to determine the probability of correct selection in this discrimination process. We perform some simulation studies to observe how the asymptotic results work for different sample sizes and for different censoring proportions. It is observed that the asymptotic results work quite well even for small sizes if the censoring proportions are not very low. We further suggest a modified discrimination procedure. Two real data sets are analysed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

For type I censoring, in addition to the failure times, the number failures is also observed as part of the data. Using this feature of type I singly right-censored data a simple estimator is obtained for the scale parameter of the two parameter Weibull distribution. The exact mean and variance of the estimator are derived and computed for finite sample sizes. Its limiting properties such as asymptotic normality and asymptotic relative efficiency are obtained. The estimator has high efficiency for moderate and heavy censoring. Its use is illustrated by means of an example.  相似文献

The mixture of Type I and Type I1 censoring schemes, called the hybrid censoring, is quite important in life–testing experiments. Epstein(1954, 1960) introduced this testing scheme and proposed a two–sided confidence interval to estimate the mean lifetime, θ, when the underlying lifetime distribution is assumed to be exponential. There are some two–sided confidence intervals and credible intervals proposed by Fairbanks et al. (1982) and Draper and Guttman (1987) respectively. In this paper we obtain the exact two–sided confidence interval of θ following the approach of Chen and Bhattacharya (1988). We also obtain the asymptotic confidence intervals in the Hybrid censoring case. It is important to observe that the results for Type I and Type II censoring schemes can be obtained as particular cases of the Hybrid censoring scheme. We analyze one data set and compare different methods by Monte Carlo simulations.  相似文献

Progressive Type-II censoring was introduced by Cohen (Technometrics 5(1963) 327) and has been the topic of much research. The question stands whether it is sensible to use this sampling plan by design, instead of regular Type-II right censoring. We introduce an asymptotic progressive censoring model, and find optimal censoring schemes for location-scale families. Our optimality criterion is the determinant of the 2×2 covariance matrix of the asymptotic best linear unbiased estimators. We present an explicit expression for this criterion, and conditions for its boundedness. By means of numerical optimization, we determine optimal censoring schemes for the extreme value, the Weibull and the normal distributions. In many situations, it is shown that these progressive schemes significantly improve upon regular Type-II right censoring.  相似文献

In this article, a group sequential test (GST) of non-parametric statistics for survival data is briefly reviewed. An asymptotic joint distribution of the test statistics, obtained after each interim analysis, is given to illustrate the applicability of the critical values of the GST procedures. It should be noted that censored observations are generally seen in survival data. Therefore, if one makes power calculations irrespective of censoring, reliable results may not be achieved, due to the lack of information about the censoring structure. A wide simulation study, covering different censoring rates and tied observations, is conducted to make the power comparisons under various scenarios. The simulation results are interpreted and compared with the results obtained by using power analysis and sample size (PASS) software.  相似文献

In this paper, we define the nonlinear wavelet estimator of density for the right censoring model with the censoring indicator missing at random (MAR), and develop its asymptotic expression for mean integrated squared error (MISE). Unlike for kernel estimator, the MISE expression of the estimator is not affected by the presence of discontinuities in the curve. Meanwhile, asymptotic normality of the estimator is established. The proposed estimator can reduce to the estimator defined by Li [Non-linear wavelet-based density estimators under random censorship. J Statist Plann Inference. 2003;117(1):35–58] when the censoring indicator MAR does not occur and a bandwidth in non-parametric estimation is close to zero. Also, we define another two nonlinear wavelet estimators of the density. A simulation is done to show the performance of the three proposed estimators.  相似文献

Life table analysis techniques in epidemiology depend upon the asymptotic properties of the statistical test methods employed. In some instances, the statistical procedures indicate highly significant results which are, in reality, unjustified. The phenomenon may occur when the asymptotic methods are applied in situations where the cases of interest are few in number. This situation is illustrated by the 20 multiple myeloma deaths observed in the RERF Life Span Study cohort. A permutation test is applied to the life table data, although the test requires the false assumption that the censoring distribution is independent of the radiation dose. A simulation test is developed which does not require equal censoring, which has the same asymptotics as the usual test methods, and which is less likely to overestimate significance in small samples. It is found that both of these small-sample tests provide reasonable numerical solutions. In addition, the simulation test is recommended in general for analyzing life table data with unequal censoring. Finally, by using the small-sample tests, the frequency of death from multiple myeloma is shown to be positively associated with radiation dose (P<0.01).  相似文献

The two-sample problem for comparing Weibull scale parameters is studied for randomly censored data. Three different test statistics are considered and their asymptotic properties are established under a sequence of local alternatives, It is shown that both the test statistic based on the mlefs (maximum likelihood estimators) and the likelihood ratio test are asymptotically optimum. The third statistic based only on the number of failures is not, Asymptotic relative efficiency of this statistic is obtained and its numerical values are computed for uniform and Weibull censoring, Effects of uniform random censoring on the censoring level of the experiment are illus¬trated, A direct proof for the joint asymptotic normality of the mlefs of the shape and the scale parameters is also given  相似文献

Sun, Cui & Tiwari (2002) studied the asymptotic behaviour of certain goodness‐of‐fit tests in the presence of biased sampling and right censoring. The author illustrates that unfortunately, an assumption made by Sun, Cui and Tiwari on the independence between failure and censoring time fails to hold in many important applications, which limits the applicability of their results.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a new type of censoring scheme which combines the features of grouped censoring and Type-II censoring. Statistical analysis of exponentially distributed lifetimes observed under this scheme is considered. The MLE of the model parameter and its asymptotic variance are derived. Furthermore, expressions for the expected experiment time and the expected number of failures are given. A numerical study is conducted to study these quantities and the results are compared with those under a Type-II censored plan. This comparison provides useful insight on the choice of these plans in designing a life test.  相似文献

The consistency and asymptotic normality of self-consistent estimators (SCE) of survival functions with doubly-censored data have been studied by many authors. However, to the best of our knowledge, expressions of the asymptotic variance of the SCE have not been derived in the literature. In this paper, under the assumption that the survival time and censoring time distributions are discrete with finitely many jump points, an expression and a consistent estimator of the asymptotic variance of the SCE are presented. A proof of the strong consistency of the SCE is also presented. Our simu¬lation studies indicate that the estimate of the asymptotic variance is very close to the true value even with moderate sample sizes and high censoring rates  相似文献

This paper investigates the urn sampling analogue for the score statistic relating survival to covariates assuming a proportional hazard model. The exact permutation distribution can be calculated as well as the exact low order moments for arbitrary censoring patterns. The asymptotic distribution of the score statistic is an easy consequence. The method is naturally extended to deal with the multivariate case, time varying covariates and interval censoring. Finally the relationship between the censoring process, the survival times and covariates are studied considering different reference sets for the distribution of the score statistic. Some assumptions about the censoring process are investigated and as a consequence the effect of censoring is clarified.  相似文献

The generalized signed rank (GSR) and generalized sign (GS) tests were recently proposed for matched pair studies with censored observations (Woolson and Lechenbruch, 1980). The results provided in that paper were asymptotic, and no indicatin of small sample behavior was given. In this paper we report on simulation studied of these statistics for a variety of distributions. We find that the GSR is more powerful than the GS, and that censoring does not affect power greatly. In the original paper, we assumed each member of the pair has the same censoring time. We consider a variant of this in which each member of the pair has a censoring time chosen from a uniform distribution, and the minimum of these times is selected as the censoring time for the pair. It is found that the power of the test is slightly reduced because the number of doubly censored pairs is increased.  相似文献

Exact confidence interval estimation for accelerated life regression models with censored smallest extreme value (or Weibull) data is often impractical. This paper evaluates the accuracy of approximate confidence intervals based on the asymptotic normality of the maximum likelihood estimator, the asymptotic X2distribution of the likelihood ratio statistic, mean and variance correction to the likelihood ratio statistic, and the so-called Bartlett correction to the likelihood ratio statistic. The Monte Carlo evaluations under various degrees of time censoring show that uncorrected likelihood ratio intervals are very accurate in situations with heavy censoring. The benefits of mean and variance correction to the likelihood ratio statistic are only realized with light or no censoring. Bartlett correction tends to result in conservative intervals. Intervals based on the asymptotic normality of maximum likelihood estimators are anticonservative and should be used with much caution.  相似文献

The kernel smoothed Nelson–Aalen estimator has been well investigated, but is unsuitable when some of the censoring indicators are missing. A representation introduced by Dikta, however, facilitates hazard estimation when there are missing censoring indicators. In this article, we investigate (i) a kernel smoothed semiparametric hazard estimator and (ii) a kernel smoothed “pre-smoothed” Nelson–Aalen estimator. We derive the asymptotic normality of the proposed estimators and compare their asymptotic variances.  相似文献

A useful parameterization of the exponential failure model with imperfect signalling, under random censoring scheme, is considered to accommodate covariates. Simple sufficient conditions for the existence, uniqueness, consistency, and asymptotic normality of maximum likelihood estimators for the parameters in these models are given. The results are then applied to derive the asymptotic properties of the likelihood ratio test for a difference between failure signalling proportions between groups in a ‘one-way’ classification.  相似文献
