Two methods of estimation for the parameters of an AR(1) process which are based on a non-linear least-squares approach are presented. On the basis of some simulation results they are compared with two maximum likelihood estimates and their relative merits are discussed.  相似文献

Based on progressively Type-I interval censored sample, the problem of estimating unknown parameters of a two parameter generalized half-normal(GHN) distribution is considered. Different methods of estimation are discussed. They include the maximum likelihood estimation, midpoint approximation method, approximate maximum likelihood estimation, method of moments, and estimation based on probability plot. Several Bayesian estimates with respect to different symmetric and asymmetric loss functions such as squared error, LINEX, and general entropy is calculated. The Lindley’s approximation method is applied to determine Bayesian estimates. Monte Carlo simulations are performed to compare the performances of the different methods. Finally, analysis is also carried out for a real dataset.  相似文献

In this paper, the problem of estimating unknown parameters of a two-parameter Kumaraswamy-Exponential (Kw-E) distribution is considered based on progressively type-II censored sample. The maximum likelihood (ML) estimators of the parameters are obtained. Bayes estimates are also obtained using different loss functions such as squared error, LINEX and general entropy. Lindley's approximation method is used to evaluate these Bayes estimates. Monte Carlo simulation is used for numerical comparison between various estimates developed in this paper.  相似文献

The Gompertz distribution has been used as a growth model, especially in epidemiological and biomedical studies. Based on Type I and II censored samples from a heterogeneous population that can be represented by a finite mixture of two-component Gompertz lifetime model, the maximum likelihood and Bayes estimates of the parameters, reliability and hazard rate functions are obtained. An approximation form due to Lindley (1980) is used in obtaining the corresponding Bayes estimates. The maximum likelihood and Bayes estimates are comparedvia a Monte Carlo simulation study.  相似文献

In this study we investigate the problem of estimation and testing of hypotheses in multivariate linear regression models when the errors involved are assumed to be non-normally distributed. We consider the class of heavy-tailed distributions for this purpose. Although our method is applicable for any distribution in this class, we take the multivariate t-distribution for illustration. This distribution has applications in many fields of applied research such as Economics, Business, and Finance. For estimation purpose, we use the modified maximum likelihood method in order to get the so-called modified maximum likelihood estimates that are obtained in a closed form. We show that these estimates are substantially more efficient than least-square estimates. They are also found to be robust to reasonable deviations from the assumed distribution and also many data anomalies such as the presence of outliers in the sample, etc. We further provide test statistics for testing the relevant hypothesis regarding the regression coefficients.  相似文献

We consider estimation of unknown parameters of a Burr XII distribution based on progressively Type I hybrid censored data. The maximum likelihood estimates are obtained using an expectation maximization algorithm. Asymptotic interval estimates are constructed from the Fisher information matrix. We obtain Bayes estimates under the squared error loss function using the Lindley method and Metropolis–Hastings algorithm. The predictive estimates of censored observations are obtained and the corresponding prediction intervals are also constructed. We compare the performance of the different methods using simulations. Two real datasets have been analyzed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

This paper concerns maximum likelihood estimation for the semiparametric shared gamma frailty model; that is the Cox proportional hazards model with the hazard function multiplied by a gamma random variable with mean 1 and variance θ. A hybrid ML-EM algorithm is applied to 26 400 simulated samples of 400 to 8000 observations with Weibull hazards. The hybrid algorithm is much faster than the standard EM algorithm, faster than standard direct maximum likelihood (ML, Newton Raphson) for large samples, and gives almost identical results to the penalised likelihood method in S-PLUS 2000. When the true value θ0 of θ is zero, the estimates of θ are asymptotically distributed as a 50–50 mixture between a point mass at zero and a normal random variable on the positive axis. When θ0 > 0, the asymptotic distribution is normal. However, for small samples, simulations suggest that the estimates of θ are approximately distributed as an x ? (100 ? x)% mixture, 0 ≤ x ≤ 50, between a point mass at zero and a normal random variable on the positive axis even for θ0 > 0. In light of this, p-values and confidence intervals need to be adjusted accordingly. We indicate an approximate method for carrying out the adjustment.  相似文献

For a one-way mixed Gaussian ANOVA model we prove local asymptotic normality and local asymptotic minimaxity of maximum likelihood estimates (MLE) and of its certain iterative approximations. A geometric rate of convergence in probability is proved for these iterative estimates to MLE. Asymptotically optimal designs for large samples are studied.  相似文献

As an applicable and flexible lifetime model, the two-parameter generalized half-normal (GHN) distribution has been received wide attention in the field of reliability analysis and lifetime study. In this paper maximum likelihood estimates of the model parameters are discussed and we also proposed corresponding bias-corrected estimates. Unweighted and weighted least squares estimates for the parameters of the GHN distribution are also presented for comparison purpose. Moreover, the likelihood ratio test is provided as complementary. Simulation study and illustrative examples are provided to compare the performance of the proposed methods.  相似文献

A general class of multiple logistic regression models is reviewed and an extension is proposed which leads to restricted maximum likelihood estimates of model parameters. Examples of thegeneral model are given, with an emphasis placed on the interpretation of the parameters in each case.  相似文献

We study the problem of classification for multivariate repeated measures data with structured correlations on both time and spatial repeated measurements. This is a very important problem in many biomedical as well as in engineering field. Classification rules as well as the algorithm to compute the maximum likelihood estimates of the required parameters are given.  相似文献

In this paper we consider estimation of unknown parameters of an inverted exponentiated Rayleigh distribution when it is known that data are hybrid Type I censored. The maximum likelihood and Bayes estimates are derived. In sequel interval estimates are also constructed. We further consider one- and two-sample prediction of future observations and also obtain prediction intervals. The performance of proposed methods of estimation and prediction is studied using simulations and an illustrative example is discussed in support of the suggested methods.  相似文献

This paper considers the statistical analysis for competing risks model under the Type-I progressively hybrid censoring from a Weibull distribution. We derive the maximum likelihood estimates and the approximate maximum likelihood estimates of the unknown parameters. We then use the bootstrap method to construct the confidence intervals. Based on the non informative prior, a sampling algorithm using the acceptance–rejection sampling method is presented to obtain the Bayes estimates, and Monte Carlo method is employed to construct the highest posterior density credible intervals. The simulation results are provided to show the effectiveness of all the methods discussed here and one data set is analyzed.  相似文献

Based on progressive Type-I hybrid censored data, statistical analysis in constant-stress accelerated life test (CS-ALT) for generalized exponential (GE) distribution is discussed. The maximum likelihood estimates (MLEs) of the parameters and the reliability function are obtained with EM algorithm, as well as the observed Fisher information matrix, the asymptotic variance-covariance matrix of the MLEs, and the asymptotic unbiased estimate (AUE) of the scale parameter. Confidence intervals (CIs) for the parameters are derived using asymptotic normality of MLEs and percentile bootstrap (Boot-p) method. Finally, the point estimates and interval estimates of the parameters are compared separately through the Monte-Carlo method.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We consider point and interval estimation of the unknown parameters of a generalized inverted exponential distribution in the presence of hybrid censoring. The maximum likelihood estimates are obtained using EM algorithm. We then compute Fisher information matrix using the missing value principle. Bayes estimates are derived under squared error and general entropy loss functions. Furthermore, approximate Bayes estimates are obtained using Tierney and Kadane method as well as using importance sampling approach. Asymptotic and highest posterior density intervals are also constructed. Proposed estimates are compared numerically using Monte Carlo simulations and a real data set is analyzed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

Parameter estimates of a new distribution for the strength of brittle fibers and composite materials are considered. An algorithm for generating random numbers from the distribution is suggested. Two parameter estimation methods, one based on a simple least squares procedure and the other based on the maximum likelihood principle, are studied using Monte Carlo simulation. In most cases, the maximum likelihood estimators were found to have somewhat smaller root mean squared error and bias than the least squares estimators. However, the least squares estimates are generally good and provide useful initial values for the numerical iteration used to find the maximum likelihood estimates.  相似文献

With reference to the problem of estimating the mixing proportions in a finite mixture distribution with known components, employing Dirichlet prior, closed form expressions for the posterior means and variances are obtained. To avoid the difficulties in computing the estimates, an approximation procedure is introduced. Numerical studies carried out for normal mixtures indicate the closeness of the approximations and their superiority over the maximum likelihood estimates at least in the case of small samples.  相似文献

In this article, we present the performance of the maximum likelihood estimates of the Burr XII parameters for constant-stress partially accelerated life tests under multiple censored data. Two maximum likelihood estimation methods are considered. One method is based on observed-data likelihood function and the maximum likelihood estimates are obtained by using the quasi-Newton algorithm. The other method is based on complete-data likelihood function and the maximum likelihood estimates are derived by using the expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm. The variance–covariance matrices are derived to construct the confidence intervals of the parameters. The performance of these two algorithms is compared with each other by a simulation study. The simulation results show that the maximum likelihood estimation via the EM algorithm outperforms the quasi-Newton algorithm in terms of the absolute relative bias, the bias, the root mean square error and the coverage rate. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the performance of the proposed methods.  相似文献

In this work, we study the maximum likelihood (ML) estimation problem for the parameters of the two-piece (TP) distribution based on the scale mixtures of normal (SMN) distributions. This is a family of skewed distributions that also includes the scales mixtures of normal class, and is flexible enough for modeling symmetric and asymmetric data. The ML estimates of the proposed model parameters are obtained via an expectation-maximization (EM)-type algorithm.  相似文献
