This article investigates nonparametric estimation of variance functions for functional data when the mean function is unknown. We obtain asymptotic results for the kernel estimator based on squared residuals. Similar to the finite dimensional case, our asymptotic result shows the smoothness of the unknown mean function has an effect on the rate of convergence. Our simulation studies demonstrate that estimator based on residuals performs much better than that based on conditional second moment of the responses.  相似文献

Local Likelihood Estimation in Generalized Additive Models   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
ABSTRACT.  Generalized additive models are a popular class of multivariate non-parametric regression models, due in large part to the ease of use of the local scoring estimation algorithm. However, the theoretical properties of the local scoring estimator are poorly understood. In this article, we propose a local likelihood estimator for generalized additive models that is closely related to the local scoring estimator fitted by local polynomial regression. We derive the statistical properties of the estimator and show that it achieves the same asymptotic convergence rate as a one-dimensional local polynomial regression estimator. We also propose a wild bootstrap estimator for calculating point-wise confidence intervals for the additive component functions. The practical behaviour of the proposed estimator is illustrated through a simulation experiment.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the asymptotic properties of the kernel estimator for non parametric regression operator when the functional stationary ergodic data with randomly censorship are considered. More precisely, we introduce the kernel-type estimator of the non parametric regression operator with the responses randomly censored and obtain the almost surely convergence with rate as well as the asymptotic normality of the estimator. As an application, the asymptotic (1 ? ζ) confidence interval of the regression operator is also presented (0 < ζ < 1). Finally, the simulation study is carried out to show the finite-sample performances of the estimator.  相似文献

In this article we establish pointwise asymptotic normality of nonparametric kernel estimator of regression function for a left truncation model. It is assumed that the lifetime observations with multivariate covariates form a stationary α-mixing sequence. Also, the asymptotic normality of the estimation of the covariable's density is considered. As a by-product, we obtain a uniform weak convergence rate for the product-limit estimator of the lifetime and truncated distributions under dependence, which is interesting independently. Finite sample behavior of the estimator of the regression function is investigated as well.  相似文献

Abstract

In this work, we propose beta prime kernel estimator for estimation of a probability density functions defined with nonnegative support. For the proposed estimator, beta prime probability density function used as a kernel. It is free of boundary bias and nonnegative with a natural varying shape. We obtained the optimal rate of convergence for the mean squared error (MSE) and the mean integrated squared error (MISE). Also, we use adaptive Bayesian bandwidth selection method with Lindley approximation for heavy tailed distributions and compare its performance with the global least squares cross-validation bandwidth selection method. Simulation studies are performed to evaluate the average integrated squared error (ISE) of the proposed kernel estimator against some asymmetric competitors using Monte Carlo simulations. Moreover, real data sets are presented to illustrate the findings.  相似文献

This paper considers the problem of selecting optimal bandwidths for variable (sample‐point adaptive) kernel density estimation. A data‐driven variable bandwidth selector is proposed, based on the idea of approximating the log‐bandwidth function by a cubic spline. This cubic spline is optimized with respect to a cross‐validation criterion. The proposed method can be interpreted as a selector for either integrated squared error (ISE) or mean integrated squared error (MISE) optimal bandwidths. This leads to reflection upon some of the differences between ISE and MISE as error criteria for variable kernel estimation. Results from simulation studies indicate that the proposed method outperforms a fixed kernel estimator (in terms of ISE) when the target density has a combination of sharp modes and regions of smooth undulation. Moreover, some detailed data analyses suggest that the gains in ISE may understate the improvements in visual appeal obtained using the proposed variable kernel estimator. These numerical studies also show that the proposed estimator outperforms existing variable kernel density estimators implemented using piecewise constant bandwidth functions.  相似文献

A Semi-parametric Regression Model with Errors in Variables   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
Abstract.  In this paper, we consider a partial linear regression model with measurement errors in possibly all the variables. We use a method of moments and deconvolution to construct a new class of parametric estimators together with a non-parametric kernel estimator. Strong convergence, optimal rate of weak convergence and asymptotic normality of the estimators are investigated.  相似文献

The mean squared error (MSE)-minimizing local variable bandwidth for the univariate local linear estimator (the LL) is well-known. This bandwidth does not stabilize variance over the domain. Moreover, in regions where a regression function has zero curvature, the LL estimator is discontinuous. In this paper, we propose a variance-stabilizing (VS) local variable diagonal bandwidth matrix for the multivariate LL estimator. Theoretically, the VS bandwidth can outperform the multivariate extension of the MSE-minimizing local variable scalar bandwidth in terms of asymptotic mean integrated squared error and can avoid discontinuity created by the MSE-minimizing bandwidth. We present an algorithm for estimating the VS bandwidth and simulation studies.  相似文献

Abstract.  The paper proposes a method of deconvolution in a periodic setting which combines two important ideas, the fast wavelet and Fourier transform-based estimation procedure of Johnstone et al . [ J. Roy. Statist. Soc. Ser. B 66 (2004) 547] and the multichannel system technique proposed by Casey and Walnut [ SIAM Rev . 36 (1994) 537]. An unknown function is estimated by a wavelet series where the empirical wavelet coefficients are filtered in an adapting non-linear fashion. It is shown theoretically that the estimator achieves optimal convergence rate in a wide range of Besov spaces. The procedure allows to reduce the ill-posedness of the problem especially in the case of non-smooth blurring functions such as boxcar functions: it is proved that additions of extra channels improve convergence rate of the estimator. Theoretical study is supplemented by an extensive set of small-sample simulation experiments demonstrating high-quality performance of the proposed method.  相似文献

We focus on the nonparametric regression of a scalar response on a functional explanatory variable. As an alternative to the well-known Nadaraya-Watson estimator for regression function in this framework, the locally modelled regression estimator performs very well [cf. [Barrientos-Marin, J., Ferraty, F., and Vieu, P. (2010), ‘Locally Modelled Regression and Functional Data’, Journal of Nonparametric Statistics, 22, 617–632]. In this paper, the asymptotic properties of locally modelled regression estimator for functional data are considered. The mean-squared convergence as well as asymptotic normality for the estimator are established. We also adapt the empirical likelihood method to construct the point-wise confidence intervals for the regression function and derive the Wilk's phenomenon for the empirical likelihood inference. Furthermore, a simulation study is presented to illustrate our theoretical results.  相似文献

We present in this article an estimator based on a new orthogonal trigonometric series. We give its statistical properties (bias, variance, mean square error, and mean integrated square error) and the asymptotic properties (convergence of variance, convergence of the mean square error, convergence of the mean integrated square error, uniform convergence in probability, and the rate of convergence of the mean integrated square error). The comparison by simulation on a test density between the estimator obtained from a new trigonometric series with Fejer estimator also based on orthogonal trigonometric series, shows that our estimator is more performant in the sense of the mean integrated square error.  相似文献

The least-absolute-deviation estimate of a monotone regression function on an interval has been studied in the literature. If the observation points become dense in the interval, the almost sure rate of convergence has been shown to be O(n1/4). Applying the techniques used by Brunk (1970, Nonparametric, Techniques in Statistical Inference. Cambridge Univ. Press), the asymptotic distribution of the l1 estimator at a point is obtained. If the underlying regression function has positive slope at the point, the rate of convergence is seen to be O(n1/3). Monotone percentile regression estimates are also considered.  相似文献

We study the behaviour of the Wald estimator of causal effects in regression discontinuity design when local linear regression (LLR) methods are combined with an asymmetric gamma kernel. We show that the resulting statistic is no more complex to implement than existing methods, remains consistent at the usual non-parametric rate, and maintains an asymptotic normal distribution but, crucially, has bias and variance that do not depend on kernel-related constants. As a result, the new estimator is more efficient and yields more reliable inference. A limited Monte Carlo experiment is used to illustrate the efficiency gains. As a by product of the main discussion, we extend previous published work by establishing the asymptotic normality of the LLR estimator with a gamma kernel. Finally, the new method is used in a substantive application.  相似文献

In this paper we propose a new nonparametric estimator of the conditional distribution function under a semiparametric censorship model. We establish an asymptotic representation of the estimator as a sum of iid random variables, balanced by some kernel weights. This representation is used for obtaining large sample results such as the rate of uniform convergence of the estimator, or its limit distributional law. We prove that the new estimator outperforms the conditional Kaplan–Meier estimator for censored data, in the sense that it exhibits lower asymptotic variance. Illustration through real data analysis is provided.  相似文献

This paper proposes nonparametric estimation methods for functional linear semiparametric quantile regression, where the conditional quantile of the scalar responses is modelled by both scalar and functional covariates and an additional unknown nonparametric function term. The slope function is estimated using the functional principal component basis and the nonparametric function is approximated by a piecewise polynomial function. The asymptotic distribution of the estimators of slope parameters is derived and the global convergence rate of the quantile estimator of unknown slope function is established under suitable norm. The asymptotic distribution of the estimator of the unknown nonparametric function is also established. Simulation studies are conducted to investigate the finite-sample performance of the proposed estimators. The proposed methodology is demonstrated by analysing a real data from ADHD-200 sample.  相似文献

Local quasi-likelihood estimation is a useful extension of local least squares methods, but its computational cost and algorithmic convergence problems make the procedure less appealing, particularly when it is iteratively used in methods such as the back-fitting algorithm, cross-validation and bootstrapping. A one-step local quasi-likelihood estimator is introduced to overcome the computational drawbacks of the local quasi-likelihood method. We demonstrate that as long as the initial estimators are reasonably good, the one-step estimator has the same asymptotic behaviour as the local quasi-likelihood method. Our simulation shows that the one-step estimator performs at least as well as the local quasi-likelihood method for a wide range of choices of bandwidths. A data-driven bandwidth selector is proposed for the one-step estimator based on the pre-asymptotic substitution method of Fan and Gijbels. It is then demonstrated that the data-driven one-step local quasi-likelihood estimator performs as well as the maximum local quasi-likelihood estimator by using the ideal optimal bandwidth.  相似文献

In this article, we consider a nonparametric regression model with replicated observations based on the dependent error’s structure, for exhibiting dependence among the units. The wavelet procedures are developed to estimate the regression function. The moment consistency, the strong consistency, strong convergence rate and asymptotic normality of wavelet estimator are established under suitable conditions. A simulation study is undertaken to assess the finite sample performance of the proposed method.  相似文献

In this paper we propose a modified Newton-Raphson method to obtain super efficient estimators of the frequencies of a sinusoidal signal in presence of stationary noise. It is observed that if we start from an initial estimator with convergence rate Op(n−1) and use Newton-Raphson algorithm with proper step factor modification, then it produces super efficient frequency estimator in the sense that its asymptotic variance is lower than the asymptotic variance of the corresponding least squares estimator. The proposed frequency estimator is consistent and it has the same rate of convergence, namely Op(n−3/2), as the least squares estimator. Monte Carlo simulations are performed to observe the performance of the proposed estimator for different sample sizes and for different models. The results are quite satisfactory. One real data set has been analyzed for illustrative purpose.  相似文献

Abstract.  This paper proposes a new wavelet-based method for deconvolving a density. The estimator combines the ideas of non-linear wavelet thresholding with periodized Meyer wavelets and estimation by information projection. It is guaranteed to be in the class of density functions, in particular it is positive everywhere by construction. The asymptotic optimality of the estimator is established in terms of the rate of convergence of the Kullback–Leibler discrepancy over Besov classes. Finite sample properties are investigated in detail, and show the excellent empirical performance of the estimator, compared with other recently introduced estimators.  相似文献

This paper considers linear and nonlinear regression with a response variable that is allowed to be “missing at random”. The only structural assumptions on the distribution of the variables are that the errors have mean zero and are independent of the covariates. The independence assumption is important. It enables us to construct an estimator for the response density that uses all the observed data, in contrast to the usual local smoothing techniques, and which therefore permits a faster rate of convergence. The idea is to write the response density as a convolution integral which can be estimated by an empirical version, with a weighted residual-based kernel estimator plugged in for the error density. For an appropriate class of regression functions, and a suitably chosen bandwidth, this estimator is consistent and converges with the optimal parametric rate n1/2. Moreover, the estimator is proved to be efficient (in the sense of Hájek and Le Cam) if an efficient estimator is used for the regression parameter.  相似文献
