In this work we propose a technique of estimating the location parameter μμ and scale parameter σσ of a distribution by U-statistics constructed by taking best linear functions of order statistics as kernels. The method has been illustrated for estimating the location and scale parameters of type-I extreme value distribution. We have computed the asymptotic relative efficiencies of the proposed U-statistics with the appropriate maximum likelihood estimators based on samples drawn from each of type-I extreme value, logistic and normal distributions. In all cases very high asymptotic relative efficiencies are obtained.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the problem of estimating the location and scale parameters of an extreme value distribution based on multiply Type-II censored samples. We first describe the best linear unbiased estimators and the maximum likelihood estimators of these parameters. After observing that the best linear unbiased estimators need the construction of some tables for its coefficients and that the maximum likelihood estimators do not exist in an explicit algebraic form and hence need to be found by numerical methods, we develop approximate maximum likelihood estimators by appropriately approximating the likelihood equations. In addition to being simple explicit estimators, these estimators turn out to be nearly as efficient as the best linear unbiased estimators and the maximum likelihood estimators. Next, we derive the asymptotic variances and covariance of these estimators in terms of the first two single moments and the product moments of order statistics from the standard extreme value distribution. Finally, we present an example in order to illustrate all the methods of estimation of parameters discussed in this paper.  相似文献

In this paper we establish an optimal asymptotic linear predictor which does not involve the finite-sample variance-covariance structure. Extensions to the problem of finding the best linear unbiased and simple linear unbiased predictors for k samples are given. Moreover, we obtain alternative linear predictors by modifying the covariance matrix by either an identity matrix or a diagonal matrix. For normal, logistic and Rayleigh samples of size 10, the alternative linear predictors with these modifications have high efficiency when compared with the best linear unbiased predictor.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the problem of obtaining the conditional confidence intervals for the parameters and reliability of the inverse Weibull distribution based on censored generalized order statistics, which are more general than the existing results in the literature. The coverage rate and the mean length of intervals have been obtained for different values of the shape parameter, via Monte Carlo simulation. Finally a numerical example is given to illustrate the inferential methods developed in this paper.  相似文献

In this study some new unbiased estimators based on order statistics are proposed for the scale parameter in some family of scale distributions. These new estimators are suitable for the cases of complete (uncensored) and symmetric doubly Type-II censored samples. Further, they can be adapted to Type II right or Type II left censored samples. In addition, unbiased standard deviation estimators of the proposed estimators are also given. Moreover, unlike BLU estimators based on order statistics, expectation and variance-covariance of relevant order statistics are not required in computing these new estimators.

Simulation studies are conducted to compare performances of the new estimators with their counterpart BLU estimators for small sample sizes. The simulation results show that most of the proposed estimators in general perform almost as good as the counterpart BLU estimators; even some of them are better than BLU in some cases. Furthermore, a real data set is used to illustrate the new estimators and the results obtained parallel with those of BLUE methods.  相似文献

In the situation of a multi-sample experiment consisting of differently equipped sequential k-out-of-n systems, scale parameters of underlying distributions from a general location-scale family of distributions are estimated under an order restriction. In each sample, the case of missing the smallest observations is included. Moreover, based on a profile likelihood a homogeneity test against an ordered alternative is proposed and analyzed. This work extends an approach of Bhattacharya [2007. Testing for ordered failure rates under general progressive censoring. J. Statist. Plann. Inference 137, 1775–1786] in the progressive Type-II censoring framework.  相似文献

The joint and marginal distributions of generalized order statistics based on an arbitrary distribution function are established in terms of the lexicographic distribution function. Furthermore, we show that generalized order statistics and the corresponding number of ties form a two-dimensional Markov chain.  相似文献

Stochastic ordering relations between extreme order statistics from exponential, Weibull and gamma distributions have been studied extensively by many researchers in recent years. In this work, we obtain various ordering results for the comparisons of two extreme order statistics from scale models when one set of scale parameters majorizes the other. The new results obtained here are applied when the baseline distributions are exponentiated Weibull or generalized gamma distributions. In this way, we generalize and extend some results established recently in the literature.  相似文献

The expressions for moments of order statistics from the generalized gamma distribution are derived. Coefficients to get the BLUEs of location and scale parameters in the generalized gamma distribution are computed. Some simple alternative linear unbiased estimates of location and scale parameters are also proposed and their relative efficiencies compared to the BLUEs are studied.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we consider a general form for the underlying distribution and a general conjugate prior, and develop a general procedure for deriving the maximum likelihood and Bayesian estimators based on an observed generalized Type-II hybrid censored sample. The problems of predicting the future order statistics from the same sample and that from a future sample are also discussed from a Bayesian viewpoint. For the illustration of the developed results, the exponential and Pareto distributions are used as examples. Finally, two numerical examples are presented for illustrating all the inferential procedures developed here.  相似文献

In this paper, the task of determining expected values of sample moments, where the sample members have been selected based on noisy information, is considered. This task is a recurring problem in the theory of evolution strategies. Exact expressions for expected values of sums of products of concomitants of selected order statistics are derived. Then, using Edgeworth and Cornish-Fisher approximations, explicit results that depend on coefficients that can be determined numerically are obtained. While the results are exact only for normal populations, it is shown experimentally that including skewness and kurtosis in the calculations can yield greatly improved results for other distributions.  相似文献

There are several well-known mappings which transform the first r common order statistics in a sample of size n from a standard uniform distribution to a full vector of dimension r of order statistics in a sample of size r from a uniform distribution. Continuing the results reported in a previous paper by the authors, it is shown that transformations of these types do not lead to order statistics from an i.i.d. sample of random variables, in general, when being applied to order statistics from non-uniform distributions. By accepting the loss of one dimension, a structure-preserving transformation exists for power function distributions.  相似文献

Lognormal distribution is one of the popular distributions used for modelling positively skewed data, especially those encountered in economic and financial data. In this paper, we propose an efficient method for the estimation of parameters and quantiles of the three-parameter lognormal distribution, which avoids the problem of unbounded likelihood, by using statistics that are invariant to unknown location. Through a Monte Carlo simulation study, we then show that the proposed method performs well compared to other prominent methods in terms of both bias and mean-squared error. Finally, we present two illustrative examples.  相似文献

Simultaneous estimation of the location parameter μ and scale parameter σ of a normal distribution based on two selected sample quantiles out of sufficiently large sample of size n is considered. The optimal spacing which maximizes the asymptotic relative efficiency is proved to be symmetric.  相似文献

In the model of progressive type II censoring, point and interval estimation as well as relations for single and product moments are considered. Based on two-parameter exponential distributions, maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs), uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimators (UMVUEs) and best linear unbiased estimators (BLUEs) are derived for both location and scale parameters. Some properties of these estimators are shown. Moreover, results for single and product moments of progressive type II censored order statistics are presented to obtain recurrence relations from exponential and truncated exponential distributions. These relations may then be used to compute all the means, variances and covariances of progressive type II censored order statistics based on exponential distributions for arbitrary censoring schemes. The presented recurrence relations simplify those given by Aggarwala and Balakrishnan (1996)  相似文献

If an assumption, such as homoscedasticity, or some other aspect of an inference problem, such as the number of cases, is altered, our conclusions may change and different parts of the conclusions can be affected in different ways. Most diagnostic procedures measure the influence on one particular aspect of the conclusion - such as model fit or change in parameter estimates. The effect on all aspects of the conclusions can be described by the difference in two log likelihood functions and when the log likelihood functions come from an exponential family or are quasi-likelihoods, this difference can be factored into three terms: one depending only on the alteration, another depending only on the aspects of the conclusions to be considered, and a third term depending on both. The third term is interesting because it shows which aspects of the conclusions are relatively insensitive even to large alterations.  相似文献

An empirical distribution function Fm, defined on a subset of order statistics of a random sample of size n taken from the distribution of a random variable with continuous distribution function F, is shown to converge uniformly with probability one to F. Small sample distributions of the one and two sided deviations and the asymptotic normality of the standardized Fm are established. The relative efficiency of Fm as compared to the classical empirical distribution function is calculated and tabled. for n = 10, 20, 50, 100, 200.  相似文献

Generalized Pareto distribution (GPD) has been widely used to model exceedances over thresholds. In this article we propose a new method called weighted nonlinear least squares (WNLS) to estimate the parameters of the GPD. The WNLS estimators always exist and are simple to compute. Some asymptotic results of the proposed method are provided. The simulation results indicate that the proposed method performs well compared to existing methods in terms of mean squared error and bias. Its advantages are further illustrated through the analysis of two real data sets.  相似文献
