Results from a power study of six statistics for testing that a sample is from a uniform distribution on the unit interval (0,1) are reported. The test statistics are all well-known and each of them was originally proposed because they should have high power against some alternative distributions. The tests considered are the Pearson probability product test, the Neyman smooth test, the Sukhatme test, the Durbin-Kolmogorov test, the Kuiper test, and the Sherman test. Results are given for each of these tests against each of four classes of alternatives. Also, the most powerful test against each member of the first three alternatives is obtained, and the powers of these tests are given for the same sample sizes as for the six general "omnibus" test statistics. These values constitute a "power envelope" against which all tests can be compared. The Neyman smooth tests with 2nd and 4th degree polynomials are found to have good power and are recommended as general tests for uniformity.  相似文献

A class of test statistics Is proposed for testing that a life distribution Is exponential against that it is new better than used and not exponential, Consistency, unbiasedness and the asymptotic normality for the one class of class of test are proved. The efflication are compeled and compared with some otner statinties. The proposed test is shown to perform well against other tests.

This paper provides the theoretical explanation and Monte Carlo experiments of using a modified version of Durbin-Watson ( D W ) statistic to test an 1 ( 1 ) process against I ( d ) alternatives, that is, integrated process of order d, where d is a fractional number. We provide the exact order of magnitude of the modified D W test when the data generating process is an I ( d ) process with d E (0. 1.5). Moreover, the consistency of the modified DW statistic as a unit root test against I ( d ) alternatives with d E ( 0 , l ) U ( 1 , 1.5) is proved in this paper. In addition to the theoretical analysis, Monte Carlo experiments show that the performance of the modified D W statistic reveals that it can be used as a unit root test against I ( d ) alternatives.  相似文献

A new model is proposed to test whether an equipment whose life is measured in discrete time units fails due to uncontrollable chance factors alone against the alternatives that it degrades over time in the sense of discrete HNBUE (harmonic new better than used in expectation) aging. The test is shown to be consistent and the asymptotic distribution of the test statistic has been obtained. The critical points and the power of the test against various alternatives from discrete HNBUE class have been studied by means of simulation. Finally, the test is applied to a discrete reliability data to examine the performance.  相似文献

Rao's score test provides an extremely useful framework for developing diagnostics against hypotheses that reflect cross-sectional or spatial correlation in regression models, a major focus of attention in spatial econometrics. In this paper, a review and assessment is presented of the application of Rao's score test against three broad classes of spatial alternatives: spatial autoregressive and moving average processes, spatial error components and direct representation models. A brief review is presented of the various forms and distinctive characteristics of RS tests against spatial processes. New tests are developed against the alternatives of spatial error components and direct representation models. It is shown that these alternatives do not conform to standard regularity conditions for maximum likelihood estimation. In the case of spatial error components, the RS test does have the standard asymptotic properties, whereas Wald and Likelihood Ratio tests do not. Direct representation models yield a situation where the nuisance parameter is only identified under the alternative, such that a Davies-type approximation to the significance level of the RS test is necessary. The performance of both new RS tests is illustrated in a small number of Monte Carlo simulation experiments.  相似文献

A unit root has important long-run implications for many time series in economics and finance. This paper develops a unit-root test of an ARIMA(p-1, 1, q) with drift null process against a trend-stationary ARMA(p, q) alternative process, where the order of the time series is assumed known through previous statistical testing or relevant theory. This test uses a point-optimal test statistic, but it estimates the null and alternative variance-covariance matrices that are used in the test statistic. Consequently, this test approximates a point-optimal test. Simulations show that its small-sample size is close to the nominal test level for a variety of unit-root processes, that it has a robust power curve against a variety of stationary alternatives, that its combined small-sample size and power properties are highly competitive with previous unit-root tests, and that it is robust to conditional heteroskedasticity. An application to post-Second World War real per capita gross domestic product is provided.  相似文献

We present a statistical procedure to test that a life distribution belongs to the class of exponential distributions against that it belongs to a class of alternatives based on the Laplace transform. The test has been shown to be consistent and the asymptotic distribution of the test statistic has been obtained. The performance of the test against various classes of alternatives has been studied by means of Monte Carlo simulation. An interesting characterization theorem for exponentials, which motivates our test procedure, has been proved.  相似文献

A test is proposed to test that a life distribution is multivariate exponential (MVE) against the alternative that it is multivariate new better than used (MNBU) class of alternatives. We also show that the proposed test is consistent for the alternatives of multivariate new better than used in expectations (MNBUE).  相似文献

Abstract

The problem of testing Rayleigh distribution against exponentiality, based on a random sample of observations is considered. This problem arises in survival analysis, when testing a linearly increasing hazard function against a constant hazard function. It is shown that for this problem the most powerful invariant test is equivalent to the “ratio of maximized likelihoods” (RML) test. However, since the two families are separate, the RML test statistic does not have the usual asymptotic chi-square distribution. Normal and saddlepoint approximations to the distribution of the RML test statistic are derived. Simulations show that saddlepoint approximation is more accurate than the normal approximation, especially for tail probabilities that are the main values of interest in hypothesis testing.  相似文献

In several cases, count data often have excessive number of zero outcomes. This zero-inflated phenomenon is a specific cause of overdispersion, and zero-inflated Poisson regression model (ZIP) has been proposed for accommodating zero-inflated data. However, if the data continue to suggest additional overdispersion, zero-inflated negative binomial (ZINB) and zero-inflated generalized Poisson (ZIGP) regression models have been considered as alternatives. This study proposes the score test for testing ZIP regression model against ZIGP alternatives and proves that it is equal to the score test for testing ZIP regression model against ZINB alternatives. The advantage of using the score test over other alternative tests such as likelihood ratio and Wald is that the score test can be used to determine whether a more complex model is appropriate without fitting the more complex model. Applications of the proposed score test on several datasets are also illustrated.  相似文献

We develop a test procedure to test the hypothesis that the distribution of the lifetime is bivariate exponential of Marshall and Olkin against that it is bivariate increasing failure rate average when the sample is of the type univariate or bivariate randomly censored.  相似文献

In this paper we propose a family of relativel simple nonparametrics tests for a unit root in a univariate time series. Almost all the tests proposed in the literature test the unit root hypothesis against the alternative that the time series involved is stationarity or trend stationary. In this paper we take the (trend) stationarity hypothesis as the null and the unit root hypothesis as the alternative. The order differnce with most of the tests proposed in the literature is that in all four cases the asymptotic null distribution is of a well-known type, namely standard Cauchy. In the first instance we propose four Cauchy tests of the stationarity hypothesis against the unit root hypothesis. Under H1 these four test statistics involved, divided by the sample size n, converge weakly to a non-central Cauchy distribution, to one, and to the product of two normal variates, respectively. Hence, the absolute values of these test statistics converge in probability to infinity 9at order n). The tests involved are therefore consistent against the unit root hypothesis. Moreover, the small sample performance of these test are compared by Monte Carlo simulations. Furthermore, we propose two additional Cauchy tests of the trend stationarity hypothesis against the alternative of a unit root with drift.  相似文献

This article modifies and extends the test against nonstationary stochastic seasonality proposed by Canova and Hansen. A simplified form of the test statistic in which the nonparametric correction for serial correlation is based on estimates of the spectrum at the seasonal frequencies is considered and shown to have the same asymptotic distribution as the original formulation. Under the null hypothesis, the distribution of the seasonality test statistics is not affected by the inclusion of trends, even when modified to allow for structural breaks, or by the inclusion of regressors with nonseasonal unit roots. A parametric version of the test is proposed, and its performance is compared with that of the nonparametric test using Monte Carlo experiments. A test that allows for breaks in the seasonal pattern is then derived. It is shown that its asymptotic distribution is independent of the break point, and its use is illustrated with a series on U.K. marriages. A general test against any form of permanent seasonality, deterministic or stochastic, is suggested and compared with a Wald test for the significance of fixed seasonal dummies. It is noted that tests constructed in a similar way can be used to detect trading-day effects. An appealing feature of the proposed test statistics is that under the null hypothesis, they all have asymptotic distributions belonging to the Cramér–von Mises family.  相似文献

TESTING THE LARGEST OF A SET OF CORRELATION COEFFICIENTS   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A previous paper which studied the distribution of the smallest distance between N independent random points on the surface of a sphere is generalised to higher dimensions in order to study the distribution of the largest sample correlation coefficient between a set of independent normally distributed variables. Inclusion-exclusion arguments provide accurate bounds for the tail of this distribution, and by another argument more exact bounds are also found, one of which is an improvement on the result in the previous paper. Bounds are also found for the power of the test against the alternative hypothesis that one only of the population correlation coefficients is non-zero. The test is also shown to be the likelihood ratio test against the latter alternative.  相似文献

Consider the problem of testing the composite null hypothesis that a random sample X1,…,Xn is from a parent which is a member of a particular continuous parametric family of distributions against an alternative that it is from a separate family of distributions. It is shown here that in many cases a uniformly most powerful similar (UMPS) test exists for this problem, and, moreover, that this test is equivalent to a uniformly most powerful invariant (UMPI) test. It is also seen in the method of proof used that the UMPS test statistic Is a function of the statistics U1,…,Un?k obtained by the conditional probability integral transformations (CPIT), and thus that no Information Is lost by these transformations, It is also shown that these optimal tests have power that is a nonotone function of the null hypothesis class of distributions, so that, for example, if one additional parameter for the distribution is assumed known, then the power of the test can not lecrease. It Is shown that the statistics U1, …, Un?k are independent of the complete sufficient statistic, and that these statistics have important invariance properties. Two examples at given. The UMPS tests for testing the two-parameter uniform family against the two-parameter exponential family, and for testing one truncation parameter distribution against another one are derived.  相似文献

In this paper we present a consistent specification test of a parametric regression function against a general nonparametric alternative. The proposed test is based on wavelet estimation and it is shown to have similar rates of convergence to the more commonly used kernel based tests. Monte Carlo simulations show that this test statistic has adequate size and high power and that it compares favorably with its kernel based counterparts in small samples.  相似文献

We present statistical procedures to test that a life distribution is bivariate exponential (BVE) against the alternative that it is bivariate harmonic new better than used in expectation (BHNBUE). We present a simulation study to compare the power the proposed test with tests proposed by Basu and Ebrahimi (1984) and Sen and Jain (1990) and we observe that the proposed test performs better than the other two tests.  相似文献

Proportional intensity models are widely used for describing the relationship between the intensity of a counting process and associated covariates. A basic assumption in this model is the proportionality, that each covariate has a multiplicative effect on the intensity. We present and study tests for this assumption based on a score process which is equivalent to cumulative sums of the Schoenfeld residuals. Tests within principle power against any type of departure from proportionality can be constructed based on this score process. Among the tests studied, in particular an Anderson-Darling type test turns out to be very useful by having good power properties against general alternatives. A simulation study comparing various tests for proportionality indicates that this test seems to be a good choice for an omnibus test for proportionality.  相似文献

In this paper, a test is derived to assess the validity of heteroscedastic nonlinear regression models by a non‐parametric cosine regression method. For order selection, the paper proposes a data‐driven method that uses the parametric null model optimal order. This method yields a test that is asymptotically normally distributed under the null hypothesis and is consistent against any fixed alternative. Simulation studies that test the lack of fit of a generalized linear model are conducted to compare the performance of the proposed test with that of an existing non‐parametric kernel test. A dataset of esterase levels is used to demonstrate the proposed method in practice.  相似文献
